Dave, does a "beadless Gremlin" mean that it is really just a Panther???
I thought that the Gremlin was just a renamed Sniper after Ching stopped having Innova mold discs, and that a Sniper was beaded Panther.

STAR "Gremlin-L"s are a perfect fit for Gremlin lovers, falling (in overstability) right between a seasoned DX Gremlin & a Proline Gremlin.
That's good to hear. I was very disappointed with my ProLine (Champion) Gremlins when they first came out because they flew nothing like a Ching Sniper.
No, but the DX version was spot on to a slightly used Sniper. IMO.
I liked the Pro Line because of the overstability. I hope the new Gremlin-X will be out soon.

The Gremlin was a different version of Sniper. The first Sniper was just an X version of the Panther, but the Gremlin/Sniper (2nd version) was an X version of that. Ergo, the L version of the XX version brings the Star version back to an X version of the Panther.

The Original Super Roc was made in the mid-90's (96?) and most were yellow. I think these were flatter than the 04/05's. The stamp looked like the old "Special Edition" stamp, the bar stamp. I saw one on ebay last week but I did not note the final price. Probably upwards of $40.

There was at least 2 previous Super Roc runs. The barstamp version says "Super Roc" ( most common )and the Proto barstamp version. I heard about a 3rd version, or possible test run, but have not seen it.

I've noticed that my 170G Star Wraith is more stable that my 175 Star Wraith. Is it because the added weight is in the thickness of the top and not the edge? Or just one of those things. The top is very stiff on the 175G (would make it a good forehand roller).

They are really stiff and a bit domey (the 11X).
I know I bought a 9x Roc out of a used box for 4 dollars in 2003 and now every one wants it cause it has rode in my bag for 4 years and is "aged" to a "high quality" flight characteristic. I think the 11X will be the same way. Do you throw them? Do "top" pro's stockpile them?

There are two different Stingray molds. Ontario and San Marino, as it says on the engraving. The difference you are describing however, sounds like a molding variation of the same mold. The mold has not been tweaked.

The KC Roc and KC Aviar material is a homogeneous plastic, rather than a mixture of different plastics. It is an engineering grade plastic not meant for injection molding and does not mix well with our DX plastic. We did mix it with a little plasticizer for one run to give it a little more tack, but that was not popular so we went back to the original.

Mainly just getting a full line of the discs we have now. We do already have a driver TeeBird like Mini that has yet to be released. I am working on going back to the original Stingray and Cobra in the San Marino mold. We were unable to use the San Marino mold to do Star. I am trying to fix that. I don't know for sure, but I think something with high resistance to turn and minimal low speed fade. My Coyote is understable and great for turnover and finesse shots, but the way it flips up from a hyzer release is not very consistent across even mild wind conditions.

So your working on a mold that will be a beat Roc right off the bat?
Discspeed has it above. I am trying to make a mid that is stable at all speeds. Pretty much like an Aviar, but as long as a Roc. The Roc and Shark are pretty close, but are a little too low speed overstable compared to what I am looking to do.

The Coyote would be perfect if it could be thrown at high speed into a wind and have the same characteristic as a medium speed throw. The Roc is that way, but the characteristic is overstable.

What's the difference between the RAM and the whippet standard or X? I've got alot more glide with my ram than a whippet with the same flight characteristics that make it the overstable pig they are designed to be. Come on, Dave...the public can handle a Star Ram vs a Star Whippet. All you need to tell them is they are very close for their use.

We haven't done a lot of testing but it does fly significantly farther than our other minis. My guess is about 20% farther.

I think these all would have a similar turn initially. Both the DX discs might be a tad more high speed stable brand new, but would catch the Ch Roadrunner after a bit of use. Of course, with more use the DX discs would continue to turn more and more.

I am not sure how big the runs were, but I would guess a minimum of 5000. The plastic has always been a special tough/soft/grippy plastic, but if you mean different from now, I am not sure. It could have had constituent ingredients from a different manufacturer than we use now, but it is basically the same stuff. We now use one extra ingredient to mitigate against the flight plate sink that sometimes happens with putters.

We have run SOFs SOSs and we just ran SOLSs. The SOFs and SOSs did fly similarly, but if you had enough power, or were throwing into the wind, you would notice a little high speed turn in the SOS. The latest run of SOLSs have a little bit more turn, but the difference between the two isn't much. Any turning disc will turn variably depending on nose angle upon release and relative wind velocity (cross wind, head wind, tail wind). That is why most pros use stable discs, as they are not as variable. The Orion LF is a pro type disc with very little variability. It is probably the best 150 class long range driver in high durability plastic, for sure, and maybe any plastic. IMO. I got to throw and test both the SOLS and SOS. Both had their merits, but I liked the SOS better and it seemed a little longer and was moldable in 150 classs. The SOLS was probably a little better for long turnovers. YMMV

And they DO smell, not bad or anything, but they have a distinctive everyday smell we all can't recognize -- like a new car smell just not, something different.
Then it dawns on us. The colored DX Panthers in the batch we have smell like old-style toner. Back in grammar school when the teacher hands out a freshly printed test or handout, and all the pupils immediately smell them.
Our Panthers smell like that. We performed the sniff test on dozens of other kinds of discs, including older DX stuff, and no other disc we tested had the same smell, or much of any smell as far as we could tell.
And no I'm not kidding or making it up.

Now I had to go ona search for the mimeograph process to see what it was that made the odor us older students remember so fondly. It looks like it wasn't mimeography that produced the odors at after all. Mimeogrpahy was supposedly not smelly. The compeptitive copier was the one responsible.

I remember seeing something a while back about a few of the Innova bags coming apart at the seam where you'd attach a set of shoulder straps. I've got one of the tour bags (the big one), maybe had it 9 months, with only 3-4 months of that time seeing any use, and the seam right where the plastic attachment is for a carbiner and straps came apart halfway through my first round on the second day of the St. Louis Open. I've got it jimmy-rigged for now, but didn't know if there was any way I could fix the seam or if I'm gonna be in the market for a new bag. Thanks

dave can you tell me if the new star xds are domey like the current dx or did they flatten out like the plastic that came out of the ontario mold?
thanks in advance
Sorry, I don't remember anything paticularly domey or flat. The Marshall Street guys can probably give you more information.
We've already received the full-color Star XDs, and they're very flat on top. We'll be getting the regular fundraiser Star XDs any day now, and we are very psyched. I imagine they'll be flat, too, and will confirm when they arrive.

I think the Star Coyotes are slightly more stable than the Champion, but that is only on average as there are variances. The DX starts more stable and beats to a turning disc.

The Star Rocs are for USDGC only, unless they are 150 class, then they are for the Japan Open. The only other way to get one, is to go to the USDGC, and get one of the first early release Rocs.

We make two types of Starfires. The Pro Starfire and SL are L versions. The Star Starfire and Champion Starfire are X versions. The original Champion type Starfire wasn't as stable as the current model. We don't make that type any more.

The new beadless mold is a more faithful reproduction of the original Aviar, however you can tell the difference. The bottom of the old type was sharp, the new type is more rounded.

I dunno about the throw art... but I think originally the Dx meant Deluxe
I use throw art strickly for rollers. I know discs are suppose to fly, but if it is not suppose to roll, dont make them circular. LOL. For some reason Throw Art discs are just as stiff as Star Plastic in 175 weight. Only difference is that the Throw Art stands up alot slower than the Star plastic does. Seems like the Throw Art plastic is more durable than the DX as well. Just thinking that some Tee-Rex in throw art plastic would be hella nice.

The process of throw art is done on the east coast. I am not familiar with the process, but I think it might make the plastic a little more rigid.

Second question,
This isn't the right thread, but as a long time proponent of the bent elbow technique, how do you line up your drives? With the reach back (what I use) I line up by reaching back along the line I'm throwing down. If I recall correctly, your emphasis is on the hit, that is you make sure the disc is on line at the hit. Is that visual, or is it a mental postion you've laid out earlier in the throw?

If we do Big Bead in anything other than KC & JK, it will be Star. After we did the Star Aviar P & A, we didnt see the urgency to do the Star Big Bead right away, especially considering the molding schedule.
