Some young-uns challenged a couple of OMBs to a doubles match at greenbelt to demonstrate their long arms and abilities. They were summarily defeated -11 to -3 in the first meeting and halfway through the round were talking about a re-match.

What about Denton before the grass grows back?

If we did Denton...it would take me atleast until 6:30 to get there..maybe more at rush hour, but I am not against that...or Audobon..McKinney, Fritz, Bearcreek, Porter (not on a Thursday)..most any other course that I can get to after leaving work at 5pm

Denton is about as far away as I can hope to make. I was planning to look toward longer courses since the young gun baggers were bragging about how far they could throw.

I'll admit there were a couple of long drives, but not really towards the target. :cool:

I played a little better in Denton this weekend, so i may be coming out of my slump. I'm fine with Greenbelt again, although it's gonna be hard to avoid the rain this week. I'd do Denton, Audobon, McKinney, whatever. I'd really like to play Audobon again. Anyone object? It might be a little out of the range of the OMBs' little electric-powered scooters, but they still have drivers licenses, right?

There will be a mini at the lake on thursday. When it's been raining, they move the porter thurs. mini to the lake. I'm fine with wherever, and whatever format. I just think we should avoid stepping on other minis. especially if we're going to have two 6-cards :).

well, let's see. If by some freak circumstance the rain gets (mostly) removed from the forecast on Thursday, Greenbelt will be sloppy but playable. Audobon will likely not be playable, since they won't have enough dry weather to mow and the grass will be waist-high. Porter is right out. McKinney will be playable, but we'll need cleats b/c it will be muddy as hell. Shawnee will be even worse. The Lake is the only really well-draining course near here, but there's a mini already there. That's not to say that we couldn't co-exist on the course, but it's not the best idea. So... do we play in cleats and rain gear, try and work in at the lake, or do we just reschedule?

[edit]: LL Woods might be a viable alternative. it's not sandy like Lake Park, but it does drain very well. Just a thought

the rain would have to give up for a day or so for LL Woods, if you have ever been there after a rain there are a few of the baskets that have small ponds around them not to mention the raging river that will be running through there.

There will be a couple of ponds, but i think overall playability would be better there than the other courses mentioned. The best, of course, is still Lake Park. That's why Tom P. moves his mini there when it rains :)

We could do Bear Creek... there will be mud, and the pond on #9 (?) will be very full... but it might work. If we could get started at about 6:15, maybe the Lake wouldn't be so bad. If there's a chance of rain, turnout for the regular thurs. mini will be lower, and if we're half done by the time they start, we might not be in the way.

So the new format will be YGBs flip for partners, and OMBs flip for partners. But no matter what, it's always OMB vs. YGB :cool: If there is an odd man out in either division, he will play cali dubs. I'm ok with $5/head if that's what everyone wants to do. Personally, I'm more concerned with bragging rights.

I suppose we can try to play LL or Greenbelt or the Lake (if we can start by 6:15) this week, barring any hard storms. a little light rain is fine, but let's avoid the lightning.

If there is a mini going on there, why do we want to jump in the middle of it?

the only reason I would suggest doing so is that no other park is going to be very playable, and with small turnout for both minis, we shouldn't get in each other's way. Of course, if this ever becomes a big deal (more than 12-15 regulars), then we will have to actively avoid other minis. As of now, this is just a casual thing. Tom P runs a more structured draw dubs mini, which will get started at 7pm, and with the rain it won't be as large of a turnout. At least that has been the case historically. If there was ANY other course in DFW that handled rain as well as Lake Park, then I'd say switch. If the consensus is to switch to a sloppier park, then I'm fine with that too.

I played Greenbelt on Sunday at you couldn't see 1" into that water. We did only lose 2 discs though and found about 6...so I guess that was okay. GB won't be "playable" for a while..atleast the water.

Personal Experience...once a bunch of us youngin's took on a Master's (35+) crowd in Ultimate. We were spanked hard. Not fun. Lesson learned -- spike their Metamucil.

of course BamBam is welcome, he knows that. As for it not even being close, we cut a few corners at the end there to get us all outof the rain faster. We knew we couldn't win with about 4 holes left, so we just got it over with. at one point, I threw OB, and to save time, my partner didn't even throw. That's 2 strokes right there, so quit talking about how it wasn't close. You guys won. No doubt about that. If we had any clue you were going to keep talking about the disparity in score, we might have attempted to keep it close. Next time (tomorrow) it won't be an issue. we'll just stomp you guys hard enough to shut you up :)

I believe the exit right before it is Valley ????Ridge maybe. Last time we went out there they had signs stating what exit to take due to the closure of the Justin 407 exit.

It is supposed to rain, how's yhe course when it's really wet? I played B.B. Owens yesterday- the boxes were so muddy It was almost not even worth it,let alone the mud was covering the boxes (and baskets) so teeing from the side or behind was impossible.

That's the beauty of the Lake course... it doesn't actually get "really wet". The soil is sandy, so the parts of the course that aren't sloped just soak up the water fairly quick. We often play the course within 30 minutes of a heavy rain.

That is a beautiful thing, what about low spots like 5-10 I think? Regardless I'm about 90% in. Just got to make sure Grandma can watch the little girl. :D

Low spots are sandy, too... the "problem spots" are usually the tee boxes - 6, 9, 12, and 16 sometimes get a little messy after it rains. Also, the ground around 13's basket holds a little water, but that's only a problem if you miss your putt. :D

Oh, and the OB left of 17 is a little wet right now... prolly want to avoid that. :p

don't know, but you could always put a 940 rated player and an 890 rated player together and still make the cut.

The problem I see with having a flip doubles is that it detracts so much from the smack talk.

The idea of ratings limits on the teams is that then higher rated players can still compete and on the longer or tougher courses still leave the field fairly even. Or limit the difference in ratings to 90 points. That would limit the the top player to 960 with an 870 partner

Best Shot - 1-6 (normal holes 6-11)
Worst Shot - 7-12 (normal holes 12-17)

I wouldn't object to next friday's doubles being in that format.

Well if you were one of the other 20 employees that worked for me in the past you may not feel that way. After the .com boom and 911 business has went down hill. For the past two months it has only been me running the shop, as of yesterday I finally has got to hire one person to help out, I hope this is a good thing and business is starting to look up agian. We went from 95m in 99 to 35m last year, I have got to see it all.

No great scores. We shot -5, Adam/Josh were -6. Nobody took up all of the scores that I am aware of. Adam and Josh were only worried about beating us.

the tie breaker will have to wait 2 weeks, since Gary Duke is too skeered to stay in town for the TT STD next week (Thursday Traveling Smack Talk Doubles). As soon as it's playable again, I'd like to take the STD to Audobon. At least it's close to Mesquite, so Frank won't whine as much about his drive home. Between his taking credit for other people's shots, bragging about his own (on the few occasions when he actually managed a decent shot) and whining about everything from a large card to a faulty shoe, the rest of us could barely get in a word edgewise :)

Shortest sentence ever typed by Frankie and he still had to use a happy face. I have never seen a guy go use the bushes to relieve himself and come back bleeding. Apparently Metemucil isn't the only thing you should look into...might want to check out the adult diaper isle.

What a blast and thanks to all 15 or 16 that made it out. We didn't get in the way of the mini going on and Josh and I kicked that OMB tail. Now we are tied, and I actually thought it may take a little longer to whoop you after last week, but you showed us it was only a fluke.

There is a group of us that play that early every weekend. For Sat it will be Jack, Jay, Phil, myself (OBM), then I think PT and Josh maybe, Sunday and Monday will be the same and Kevin will be there.
I think we shot 3 or 4 down, 3 ob's and I lost 2 discs to the lake..

I lost 2 discs also. 1 in the lake on hole 3 and one on the temp. lake on hole 17. :(

We were bogey free..didn't lose anything and we each had 1 ob ...

#3 was sure fun with that water way up

#3 we both went ob, but managed to get our circle 3, Adam we usually get there around 8ish for some early morning harasment..

We both went ob and almost got our circle 3 (from a re-tee). lol

And it will be flip doubles..

I'll try to talk Brian into it and see what happens. Every time we end up out there we play atleast 3 rounds or more.

We play all the long tee pads, only two holes there that really dont have them.

Well thanks, Adam... I'm glad parts of my game brought joy to someone last night. :p I'd have to say the two circle 3's were probably the bright spots of the evening for us. :(

Actually, Gary and I weren't having much trouble with ups and putts, just drives... we kept digging ourselves deeper and deeper with every new teebox, it seemed. Like he said earlier, we had OB drives on three holes, but what he didn't say was on two of them, BOTH of us went OB, and the one that stayed IB on hole 10 wasn't a pretty spot, either... behind one of the trees just short of the mando.

All in all, though, it was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to do it again.

Maybe the problems with the drives for BamBam and GWatts were those oddly cleaned teepads! :p GWatts, I'm might try to make it out there for a round with you guys tomorrow morning at 8:00. With no rain today, maybe the course will be almost dry! :)
