We used the poker table Brian bought on Sunday night and it made a nice difference. I wiped out Brian Boaen twice and Brian and I split up his money. He said he wanted to donate some more to me on Friday!

ah, but if I make one, it'll be solid wood and done just how she wants it. Try and find a big, custom-made, solid-wood desk for under a grand... I dare ya :). I'm going to build a full-size poker table too. Like the ones the Pros play on... and hopefully with some method of making it work as a dining table, too. I think just slapping a topper on it would make it too high for real use... so I'll have to think of something else. Maybe a removable pad system with a topper that sits on the pad supports. or something :)

http://www.palason.ca/g_poker_table.html

good find... but what I want to build is something in between the top two tables on that page. I want the size and shape of the top one, with a sunken playing surface (and probably lighting built-in) and a "dealer hole". I also want the fit and finish of something closer to the second table.

I used to have a bumper pool table that had one of those reversible tops on it... and it was cool for what it was. just not big enough, and not comfortable enough for regular use as a dining table.

If you want to go back a read a few pages we were going to play both courses, but then remembered your tourney was going on and didn't want to interfere with that.

I have had more than enough tourney this play, including 3 or 4 of your events. I am sure I will see you next year, but for this weekend it is fun and smack talk with the RIPT game.

Actually the 2 course meet each other right there. My shot went straight into the bushes off the teepad ( not trees :p) and the other teepad is about 15ft below and to the left. The hole I was on requires you to throw a 200+ line drive over a 50ft incline that has water at the bottom, or lay up on the right and fight to take a 4. There was no excuses there you old fart. I told I you threw it into the bushes...didn't say someone made me do it...That will be 1 card coming your way tomorrow :D

Ryan - It is one of the courses in San Saba where World Doubles is held. You really should get out there. Simply 3 amazing courses unlike anything you have ever played. Par 5's that are deserving of a 5 and much much more.

You really do need to get out there. We should all head out there in the Spring for the weekend. Pay the $5 to camp and play golf all weekend long.

I haven't ever been there except for World Doubles the last 2 years. I want to go and play on my own time. 3 courses that will challenge everything you have. RIPT out there would kill a man!!

That RipT game is pretty great. I'm surprised nobody has posted anything on here yet. I think Dieter and I got screwed just as much as anybody, but it was still hilarious. Here are some of my favorites from the round. Dieter and I both throw great drives on #3 (I think). We then have to redrive after a card is played on us. We still take the CTP. Oh, yeah. Dieter and I did that again later in the round. We did lose the birdie on the first hole, but we added a birdie on the second hole. Josh D and Adam use a card to redo their approach. They both park their new approach shots. A card is played on them where their lie is moved 30 feet back. They end up with the bogey. This gave another card to Dieter and me as we were the only ones to par the hole. The last one is probably the best. Dieter throws a nice drive about 25'-30' out. I putt in the birdie. A card is thrown on us to do it again with a different disc. I pull out my other duplicate putter only to have someone throw another card on us telling us to use our opposite hand for the putt. There was some relief from the galley when mine fell short. :D That's just a few of the fun things in this game. Feel free to chime in with some more stuff. :p

I think we should give a weekly review. Maybe we could get sponsorship from RipT!:eek: :p

I would have posted yesterday, but I am glad we left when we did....I got pretty sick by the time we got home and have been asleep since 7pm yesterday. I don't know what was coming on, but I was starting to feel it during the back 9. I had hoped it was going to pass, but it didn't.

I'll give some reflections tomorrow, but it was a blast. 3 1/2hrs of RIPT with your good golfing buddies...!!!!

reddman
Dec 05 2004, 04:21 PM
I guess you liked that one a lot since you posted about it twice. :p Yes, that one sucked since we didn't read the whole card before yelling out our intentions. But you have some of it wrong. Ryan/Josh R were tied with us at the time. Our goal was to get rid of the card so we could make sure we had enough room for 7 cards. I should have just thrown my drive with that nasty JLS about 50' down the fairway. It would have given us a much better chance at getting the par; after all, nobody birdied the hole.

dannyreeves
Dec 05 2004, 11:47 PM
No concrete. Great course. If you go, play the Red tees. They are the 2nd hardest tees and (in my opinion) make the best holes out there.

Thanks! Sounds like fun to play hard course. Happy holidays! See yall in 2005 tournments. Come to 3rd Poison Ivy Open on Jan 8th. Of course I got poison ivy rash on back of my right leg. Use betamethasone dipropionate (steriod) cream from DR> it works fast in 2 to 4 days :D

Dec 06 2004, 11:08 AM
It is a great course Joey. Red pads are definately the best for a nice 18 holes. It is also getting alot easier to find your way around out there. They have put up more signs, cleaned up more of the course and it just keeps getting better.

bambam
Dec 06 2004, 01:23 PM
Our round of doubles with the RIPT cards this weekend at Crowley sure was fun. We played from the red tees, and the course was a nice challenge. I would love to play that course again soon for some RIPT singles... just wish it wasn't so far away :(

With all the nice courses on the south side of DFW, I may have to consider moving... just don't tell Pebbles! :D

okcacehole
Dec 06 2004, 01:29 PM
I definately look forward to a singles round of RIPT sometime soon. With us having 2 decks already, if we get a group that large again we could still split into 2 and have enough cards.

There were a few in the deck that we never even got to see.

bambam
Dec 06 2004, 01:44 PM
Yeah, that group Saturday was WAY too big to play that game with one deck. Four hours for a round of DG??? Heck, I almost thought I was playing ball golf, it was taking so long!

Mark and Dieter kinda got burned on that score swap card, didn't they? :D:D:D

okcacehole
Dec 06 2004, 01:46 PM
That they did, but they really lucked out when Dieders junk disc actually flipped so hard it became a roller. Otherwise I bet they both would have been in the creek.

Can't beat a round where we have our own personal guide/disc retriever/caddie. I never did catch that guys name, but he was calling me Murphy by the end.

Wish I could have played the singles round but I felt terrible. How did that round go?

bambam
Dec 06 2004, 01:56 PM
Yeah, having the local guy as a guide sure was helpful... I didn't get his name, either.

I didn't stay for the second round at Crowley. Mark and I went and shot a round at Bear Creek from the longs, instead.

That was what Josh wanted to do, but by that point I was almost horizontal in the back of the truck..Just glad whatever it was passed with alot of sleep.

Maybe those of us not going to Tyler this weekend can get 2 rounds in somewhere and play RIPT for one of them.

bambam

bambam
Dec 06 2004, 02:17 PM
not Denton... I don't like that course much, mowed or not.

I'd rather play either of the Lewisville courses, either of the Carrollton courses, Bear Creek, or Audobon.

I guess we'll have to keep our eye on the weather for the next few days to know for sure.

okcacehole
Dec 06 2004, 02:21 PM
Sounds fine to me. Greenbelt may be a good course for RIPT with all the OB water.

bambam
Dec 06 2004, 03:38 PM
True... I was thinking along the same lines about the Lake course, with all the trees. Redriving there a time or two could cost someone a couple of strokes easily... or Bear Creek, for both the creek AND the trees.

okcacehole
Dec 06 2004, 04:49 PM

13 is a very dumb shot, except from the Pro pad if you go out and around in a annie...but I actually have more problems with 15 on alt...realistically there is not a specific line to the hole at all and you just pray to hit as few of trees as possible and not hit the water hole on the right...DUMBEST IMO...

I am in for BC....round from shorts to warm up and play normal and then some RIPT?...Frank..you are hitting Tyler...Gary D...I think you are

how about Dann, Watts, and Redman? I think Ray was game.

reddman
Dec 06 2004, 10:06 PM
I'm in for Saturday.

I'm torn as to which hole is the dumbest: 13 or 15. Amazingly, I took a par on 13 in the new pin position, and then turned around and got a birdie on 15. You can throw a great shot on 15 and get burned by the trees. At the Jr. Scholarship tourney, I hit one tree on 15, bounced off another, and went in the creek. I felt lucky to get away from that course on Saturday with all of my discs in my bag. I did like BamBam's birdie on 17. Just in case anyone was wondering, we were playing the "Advanced" tees. :D

RipT for Satuday!

gnduke
Dec 07 2004, 01:37 AM
I like 13 from the long tee in the left pin placement.

Never got a disc to stick in the basket in the right position, but have hit chains a few times.

I think the last time I played was the Poison Ivy Open in January.

bambam
Dec 07 2004, 01:47 AM
That's what I thought... you haven't played it since they moved the basket to its current, stupid location. Used to be, you'd finish 13 and then walk across the little bridge to get to 14's tee pad. Now, 13's basket is across that bridge, just slightly left of and behind 14's teepad.

Like you, I used to like 13 from the long pad... now I don't like it from either pad.

Now hole 15, I don't mind so much... but then again, I don't seem to have as much trouble with it as Reddman does. :D

gnduke
Dec 07 2004, 01:55 AM
Is there a way to get to the basket from the tee without endangering players on 14's tee box, or players walking in from 18's tee to basket?

bambam
Dec 07 2004, 02:02 AM
I wouldn't say it's extremely dangerous or anything, but there is certainly the potential for someone to get hit, either on 14's box or crossing the bridge. If you throw the low, hyzer route for a righty, you will likely not threaten either 14's box or the bridge on your drive, but if you throw the supposed anhyzer route, I would guess you could easily overshoot the basket.

From what I saw, there doesn't appear to be much of a high hyzer or overhead route for either hand, but a lefty could throw the big hyzer route, which looks like it would take you out over 121 - same for the righty anhyzer route.

gnduke
Dec 07 2004, 02:13 AM
There doesn't look like there is an overhead (thumber) route on BB Owens #17 long, but I've parked it that way several times.

bambam
Dec 07 2004, 02:19 AM
How'd we get on BB?? I'm ranting about Bear Creek :D

okcacehole
Dec 07 2004, 10:09 AM
Oddly when Frank, Ryan, myself and my brother played on Thanksgiving...my little brother was the only one to take a 3 on #13 alt pin. We were shooting the short pad which takes away all hope of an anhyzer and/or thumber....

Give it some time and I am sure a Thumber route will "Develop"

bambam
Dec 07 2004, 11:09 AM
I don't think a thumber route will help me much.... Adam, do you not remember my two thumber "attempts" from this past weekend at Crowley? :(

okcacehole
Dec 07 2004, 11:14 AM
Guess that was more for the Gary's :D 1 thumber a round is about all my elbow will take and most of the time I don't see any reason to throw it anyway.

Obviously not hole #13, but standing in a wide-open fairway with the hole 250ft away should not be a thumber shot. Just throw a hyzer/anhyzer/straight shot. I keep seeing the thumber come out from people not confident with their drives.

You can't thumber forever or you won't be throwing much. It will tear up your elbow, shoulder, ect.

Bear Creek works for me on Saturday if everyone is good with that. 10am again? Is that too early for you RAY?

27dogs
Dec 07 2004, 12:08 PM
**** i hate to say this i have to agree with adam /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif 15 is the worst hole when it's in the long and to the left :mad:any hole where just as much luck as skill is needed is not good. 13 is still an easy par even birdiable, park the old location still a shot for 2 at least an easy 3.

okcacehole
Dec 07 2004, 12:23 PM
It wouldn't hurt to put some filler dirt in the water pit there on #15 also. I know you have been in that water as I have and you can sink in that muck. It is disgusting.

Even some railroad ties before and after the bridge might alleviated some of the standing water there. Granted that is the normal water path, but that hole would be much nicer w/o the stench puddle

bambam
Dec 07 2004, 12:30 PM

Oh...I want some action on that...the upshot around the corner must be good to start off with, but then you have to find a way through the small trees right on the edge of the creek to get over to the basket...5 of 10....hmmm...

not sure which side, but 1/2 pars would be pretty good on that hole.

Frank, Frank, Frank...

I feel the need to knock you back down a peg or three. Just because you managed to win our last head to head meeting, don't let that get you into trouble. I don't intend to let you get used to it. Besides, DQ is going to win so all I have worry about is beating you.

Dec 08 2004, 01:23 PM

Dec 08 2004, 01:32 PM

Dec 08 2004, 01:34 PM
I heard he's going Pro next year, and he needs a going away gift.

But if Frank insists on coming in second, I guess I will have to win.

gawd dern that was alot of reading. Looks like the BC #13 wager has fallen by the wayside. what gives? I want in on that. It's really not a hard hole to par... Not that I want to agree with Frank, but you just park the old hole then putt for your two. when you miss, take the drop-in for a 3. Seems easy, right? As long as you get your RHBH hyzer skip around the corner, you should par that hole. Plus, giving the guy 10 tries in a row... I'm betting he can do it.

So, is Saturday gonna be more Smack Talk RipT Dubs? Singles? What's the plan? I'm not sure if I'm going to make it to tyler or not. If I stay in town, I'll be playing the STD on Sat :)

okcacehole
Dec 09 2004, 01:11 PM
I think BC is the plan on Saturday. Hopefully play a normal round and then a round of RIPT if everyone is in. I may get my little brother out there again and we will see if we can get lazy arse KRELL to get out.
