What a great disc golf land in Tyler, Texas. Any large city should look upon this club and players and see what a small, east Texas town was able to accomplish when all the players worked together, even with differing opinions at times I am sure, and work hard to produce 2 great courses on some very pristine property.

They even had their locals coming up during our rounds asking about the mini and other things, but they were more than gracious to continue playing their round with us. I can still here Jeremy saying to David, "we had a group of guys from Dallas come to see our courses and we are going to show them to them".

Personally, I liked the Red course on longs, over the Blue course longs, but that is most likely due to the Blue course is still continually being tweeked and made better each and every day.

As for Brian and my game, we were actually all tied for 1st on the YGB card with 3 holes to go. Unfortunately we both found a way to take a 6 on the 1,000ft+ hole and then proceeded to 5 the last hole. We stunk that up.

Hitting a 150ft birdie in RIPT with my BUZZ and then having it taken right back with a cancel card was painful (since it was my best shot of the day), but also what the fun and friendship of RIPT can be if you have a good group, which we did.

Jeremy, Jerry, and Doug: Thank for showing us your great courses.

We also had a tire blowout on the way home, but Troy was just ahead of us and came back to save the day. We would have started walking into Canton w/o you. Luckily, we pulled over 1 block from a Wal-mart that Troy knew about and were able to take the busted tire and change it over in 30 minutes. That could have been much worse!

Thanks again Tyler. I will come back for more!!!!!

Well we showed up for our regularly shedualed mini on sunday to find if was being taken over by some card game.........nobody said durring the week that it would be cancled....I spoke to jeremy after it all and he said someone else could have run it....what is that......you didnt mention any of this during the week when I say you ...all you said was some dallas guys were comeing to play the mini.....you took the job running the mini jeremy....not me ........not dave.....

The game ript.....a birdie you worked hard for taken away....not a game for me....

as for dallas guy's next time you will see some players...... if your not scared of the money round...

In conclusion this weekend was a big waste of time for every tyler golfer but 2....thats not cool...

Dec 20 2004, 04:53 PM
Liam,

Listen dude, we had some Dallas guys come over to play. Jeremy, Doug and I showed them around. They wanted to play Ript after our first round and since they were from out of town we wanted to join them. I posted that we wanted to join in with them and posted to be there at 9:00. They ran a little late and we started at about 10:00. Plenty of time for anyone of you to show up. JIm was there with a couple of other guys and he declined to join in. No big deal.

Now it is posted all over the world that half the Tyler crowd is pissy about not getting to play their regularly scheduled mini. Dear lord it is just a game!

Liam I like you and consider you to be an honorable and upright kind of guy, but this does not reflect well to the thread readers. You also need to consider that what you say is read around the fricking world. Your comments about Brian Mace for instance were totally uncalled for. He was trying to offer advise, not put you down. I will defend you against anyone who attacks you, but you are typing faster than you are thinking.

We had players from out of town and we played THEIR format. They wanted to play OMB against young guys. They travel around and do this at different courses and we backed into it. We were just joining in with them.

In my opinion Jeremy was being gracious to show them around. Should they choose to come back again, then we will make sure that someone else is picked to run a mini.

are you serious? Are you that self-absorbed that you can't share your course with some folks who might get to play it once in a blue moon? Is the Sunday mini the only thing that makes your world go round? Some of the people who came and played in Tyler this past weekend were also there for the PDGA tournament last weekend. All of us support Texas golf. None of us would have turned you away or complained had you come to visit any of our home courses.

How hard is it to run an afternoon mini? The tough part is getting it organized and advertised. Sounds like Jeremy already took care of that part. All you (or anyone else) had to do was take a few dollars, provide a deck of cards (assuming doubles) and some scorecards and then pay out at the end. That's the easy part. Are you saying you couldn't handle that long enough for Jeremy to take a break and play some casual golf with some out-of-town buddies? I have personally played with Jeremy in other cities like Waco, McKinney, and Dallas. Did you cry like this when he was out of town to play in those tournaments? Nobody ever said the mini was cancelled because it wasn't cancelled. It just needed somebody else to help out. Plenty of times I've filled in for somebody in a situation like that. Easy as pie when somebody else has already done the hard part. By the way, how much are you paying him to run that little mini? I hope it's enough to justify the crap you're trying to drag him through.

As for being scared of a money round, I can almost guarantee you that every single one of us that came to Tyler this weekend has played more money rounds than you have. We all play big tournaments and small ones. When there's not a big tournament of interest going on, we prefer to play casual with friends and we have fun doing it. We play RIPT because it adds another level of strategy to the game. It takes away some of the luck and adds a different kind of luck at the same time. Yeah, adam had a VERY nice shot taken away... but if you read back a few pages you'll see that he got to take an even nicer one away last weekend. Rob Canadien had an ace come back... That's the way the game goes. If you've really "worked hard" to make the shot, then you can do it again on the next shot. if you can't... it was lucky. Good shot, but lucky nonetheless. Sounds to me like you're SKEERED.

Note that when I talked to Jeremy yesterday he said he won't be able to read the boards until he gets back to work. Since he's on vacation he won't be able to respond to this till the 4th... otherwise I'd let him handle your sorry-arse comments himself.

on a lighter note, I'd like to take the time to thank Jerry and Doug for not only showing us the courses, but whooping up on us the first round. Jerry was a good sport and fought through his knee pain to keep us company. Adam already said all this, but I just wanted to make sure you fellas didn't think I was leaving you out :)

Doug, Jerry, Jeremy: Thanks for being good hosts. You already know that you are always welcome to come to our courses up in Dallas.

From your original post I see that you state two players ruined Tyler disc golfing communitee's entire weekend. I am guessing you were referring to Jeremy and myself, but you could be talking about Doug as well. The power is coursing through my veins! Little did I know that we were such Gods!! :)

Susan,

David wanted to play doubles and wished we had started at 2:00. The Dallas players wanted to start as soon as we finished the first round so that they could get back at a reasonable hour. Jeremy, Doug and I accomodated. You may or may not know that since I am diabetic I do not like to miss meals, but we skipped luch and started right away. I think David was upset, but I did not notice that he was an ***.

we didn't cancel any mini in tyler. the stdrs planned a week ahead of time to take it to tyler. some of the locals happened to know ahead of time of our plans. it was posted as a matter of fact that we were playing two rounds. now where we screwed up is by not reminding the locals to pacify the other locals in advance of our trip. how could a mini get canceled with only 3 locals joining the dallas guys. i guess when you guys have a mini you really have a mini. i'm used to 30 to 60 people at minis.

i've never put much thought in them. my best rounds are always non sac. i've had 1000 point rounds at texas 10s. am i a 1000 player. i don't think so. only you know your game in the long run. i.e. yourself and brian's decision to move up i'm sure is based on your beliefs and not ratings. when you get up to the touring pro level that's where i think they are more accurate.

okcacehole
Dec 22 2004, 01:17 PM
Moving up was due in part to needing more of a challenge and playing with "better" players. We also cashed at almost every single event we played this year, so that tells me I should move up and see if I can keep that up.

I have always thought the ratings system was pretty flawed.

Is it an hour yet ?

We talked about how hard it is to get cash out of DG players. The fund raising attempt we put on with the T-shirts for the Chance Ware fund at $10 a shirt with most of it going to charity lost money.

Chris offered the opportunity for people to get their names on the Thunder last year to help pay for the trailer. I only know of 3 players that signed up.

It hasn't been profitable to put your own money down on an idea and depend on the players to support your cause.

If you want to show your support, I will start a pledge page on the TX10 thread. All players get their name on the trailer as making the 2005 tour happen.

You need to raise enough cash to cover the payments on the initial investments that still have to be paid and enough to cover the expenses of a person doing the tour as a full time job. A good start would be to buy out the current inventory in the trailer. It doesn't look like he was able to clear it out in Live Oak last week. If you want to support the tour talk him into having a mini up toward Dallas somewhere and clean out his trailer. Bring your money and show him you want him to keep doing the tour.

It's true that one event in and of itself will make a profit, but running the tour full time requires that the tour as a whole makes a profit. It hasn't the first few years, and it wasn't really planned to. By the time it reached this stage, corporate sponsorship was supposed to come along and keep it going.

baldguy
Dec 27 2004, 06:15 PM
BTW, we played Sunset Park here in Gulf Breeze today. very cool little park. I'll try to take some pictures of their signature hole and post them when we get back. It's a very nice risk/reward hole teeing off over a shallow pond / marshy area, 280ft RHBH hyzer to a basket guarded by trees and shrubs. Water 15-20 feet behind as well as to the right of the pin. Some safety in between, but lots and lots of trees, shrubs, etc. and water :). Easy 2, Easy double-circle-6... or lay up for a possible 3, probable 4.

The rest of the course (except for the holes missing due to construction and cleanup from Hurricane Ivan) was nice if not great. 2 tees on almost every hole, 2-row Discatcher baskets all around. The layout is a great use of space for a casual round, but it would be tough to hold a decent-sized tournament there. Many of the fairways are very close together, and with the high number of trees, there would be alot of interfering play. Many of the pro tees are very near the previous basket which would also pose a problem. BUT... 18 holes with pro tees and nice baskets in a beautiful setting, with challenging shots mixed in with a few birdie holes... good times. DG on vacation... even better times :)

Dec 27 2004, 06:16 PM

Reddman, you have a PM regarding the Saturday doubles at ZBoaz.

I played Crowley today with Pebbles... her first time there, and she liked it. I shot +1 from the reds, which, from the looks of the mini results they post on the board near the 1st tee box, is not a bad round.

We got to play the course owned by the navy in Pensacola today. Got some great pics of it and the one in Gulf Breeze... but the camera's batteries died halfway through the round in Pensacola. I'll post what I can tonight and the rest tomorrow night. I might even start a page on my website for DG course pics. We're supposed to be playing the one in Shreveport tomorrow afternoon, but from what I hear it's not really photogenic, so prolly not too many pics from there.

what are you guys discussing now? golf on friday or saturday?

moffit blows!!!!!

baldguy
Dec 29 2004, 02:58 AM
ok, I'll just post them tomorrow :) we can only get to the crappy ones taken with cell phone cameras anyhow. The good ones will be posted tomorrow night. The main one I wanted to post was a shot of the Blue Angel Disc Golf Course sign. it says "see outpost for rental gear"... yeah, that's right. You can actually rent discs to play with!

This course was one of the most impressive, if not the most difficult, that I have ever played. It had 2 tees for every hole. Both concrete, each with a detailed sign and distance. Every hole had a post with pegs on it for hanging your bags, as well as a bench to sit on. Near every basket was not just one sign pointing to the next tee, but also signs pointing to the next pro tee and the next am tee. There were no fewer than 3 *filled* water coolers with paper cup dispensers out on the course. Not that they needed it in the winter... but I was very impressed. The bridges weren't just a piece of wood or a log laid across a stream, no... they were done gazebo-style. Arched wooden bridges with a decorative over-hang. One of the pictures I took has a bridge in the background. The "1 open hole" in the course directory's description of this course was only about 60% open, with the pin in the trees. Most of the other holes were *very* tight in the woods, and the course designer made sure to mix up the left- and right-turning shots. While the course played to alot of aceruns and birdie holes from the am pads, most of the pro pads were much more complicated and technical. Not just farther back like most courses. The Am pads rance from 105 ft to 317 ft, with most in the 150-250 range, several below 200. All of the short holes, save 1, are very technical and require precision much more than power. I managed to take a 3 on the 105 ft hole :) I nearly aced again today, but it was a sharp 157ft anhyzer through some tight trees that I simply threw too hard. It hit chains dead center and made alot of noise, but splashed out immediately. Oh well. For an advanced player, the am pads would normally play about -8 to -10 on any given day, but the pro pads would probably play closer to -1 to +1. I'd guess that a winning pro score from the blues would be -5 or -6. I don't know where to look up a course's SSA.

Anyhow, I didn't get to play all of the pro pads since Deidre wanted to play the rec ones, but the next time I have an opportunity, I will. Too bad it's 9 hours from DFW :(

Got a question for all you Dallas players. I've got to pick up some friends at the airport on Friday, Jan 7th. I think their plane comes in at 3:00. I was thinking that if I left early enough I may be able to get a round of golf in before I have to be there. Grapevine is close to the airport, RIGHT? Would I be safe there by myself? Is there another course that would be better? Thanks for the help.

okcacehole
Dec 29 2004, 01:07 PM
Grapevine is pretty close, but unfortunately it is the course all the baskets were stolen from. The city has pulled the rest until they are all welded, so it is only a pole disc golf course right now.

Fritz wouldn't be too far. It is a good 9 hole course. Any course on your way into town like Audobon or the Carrollton courses may work also.

27dogs
Dec 29 2004, 01:08 PM

I'm in for Audobon at 1:00-ish. Before that I'm going to try and get some DG course pics posted on my site. Gotta get the site back up before i can do that... ok, well it might be tonight. I wish I had brought extra batteries to take more pics of the Blue Angel DG Park.

BTW, you OMBs still haven't learned the difference between feet and miles? No wonder you're still tying to convince your wives that 3 inches is actually quite long.

Dec 31 2004, 10:49 AM

Dec 31 2004, 10:54 AM
i'm sure one fo us would be able to join ya

Dec 31 2004, 11:02 AM
I figured that ya'll would be back at work. David is nervous about me going to play Lindsey alone and he's really throwing a fit about me being in Dallas by myself. If someone were to meet me , we'd both feel better about it.

Thanks!

Dec 31 2004, 08:00 PM

I hope everyone has a safe night.
