Why is everyone avoiding the Z ?

I'm not sure, but I think I heard one of the locals say something about one or two of our players hitting too many of their trees. :D

If not that, then it's probably because at least half our group tried to hit passing cars on hole 4 both rounds  :D

I sure had a good time, though... must have something to do with being on the winning team both rounds. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I tried that the first round, and it was fun; I think I even made that guy in the white pickup get a little mad even though I didn't hit his truck. :D

bambam
Jan 17 2005, 09:54 AM
Who was it that came so close to hitting two cars in the second round? Was that Ray? I can't remember, but it sure was entertaining to watch! :D

prairie_dawg
Jan 17 2005, 12:29 PM
BamBam,

I didn't have an OB shot until hole 18 the second round, silly firebird bounced back into the creek when I thumbed it too low. I think it was Reddman that tried it twice in the first round and still got a circle 4 on hole 4.

bambam
Jan 17 2005, 01:55 PM
Aaahhh... my bad, then.

Hole 18 was brutal to several of us on that last round. I thought I was plenty safe on my shot, but I guess my disc thought it needed a good wash in the creek. The only one of us OMBs that didn't get wet that last hole was Pinkie, and that's because he nailed that tree about 40' off the teebox. :D:cool:

Jan 18 2005, 07:33 PM
D*mn..another whole day of actual work...I just don't know what to do about it :p

While the smack at the Z was fun and the golfing great as always, the best smack of the day came later at Porter.

Josh, Brian and I shot Porter that afternoon and we were all getting ready to tee on hole #7. There were 2 casual players coming over the bridge, so we let them go through before driving. Brian shot first and they were watching his drive. He shanked the drive and ended up closer to basket #9 than #7.

The casuals stopped in their tracks and pointed out to Brian where the correct basket was. I was LMAO for 30 minutes with that one. Nothing beats having 2 guys that are carrying probably 5 discs total between them, show a tourney player where the correct basket is.

He won't live that one down for awhile!!!

27dogs
Jan 18 2005, 09:29 PM
especially since you posted it here :Dbut i'm sure you thought about that

okcacehole
Jan 18 2005, 10:24 PM
It was just so great that they thought he was just shooting at the wrong goal and wanted to help...He still won :( I'll tell you the story of the circle 4, circle 6, circle 4, 4 someday - ouch

but I did pull off one amazing shot on #17..anhyzer around the 1st telephone poll and 20ft out..of course I couldn't putt..but the line is there if the wind is right

27dogs
Jan 18 2005, 11:48 PM
anhyzer around the first pole. that would be out over the street or driveway. and you did this on purpose? and still got to the basket. impressive ;)

Correct..and if it became a good route it would become a mando..shush :Dbut the sidewinder went all the way..

bambam
Jan 19 2005, 02:20 AM
Adam, I'm a bit confused... in your earlier post, you mentioned that you, Josh, and Brian were playing later that afternoon at Porter. Then you go on to tell a cute story about some guy carrying 5 discs telling a tourney player where the correct hole is.

I'm still not clear on where the tourney player fits in  :D

okay i just had an idea, laura q. is calling out dallas dgers to help with the cedar hill course. lets get at least the regular stdr's to meet there sat. morning work 4 hours that's only half a day. then we'll go to the vet or whereever and have a good ole ygb butt whoopin :Dif we can get 10 stdr's that would be 40 hours that we can donate to the cause and hold our heads up high ( after josh drives of course ) when we play there. i'll do it, that's 1 out of the 10. come on let's do it. you guys know as soon as it's ready we'll be headed out to play it and we can't let arlington get all the credit :D

I'll let Frank copy my pm to him here for you guys. However, Gary, I would not suggest bringing a weed eater. It's not weeds we are cutting through as much as briars and thin trees.
Thanks a bunch guys for coming out. It will definitely be appreciated. :)

if your bad with poison ivy let brian know and he can put you to work away from it. looks like they have about 3 or 4 holes left to clear. where are all the ygbs at. i guess the ombs are just better at everything :Di haven't talked to shari the lurker yet but i'll bet she helps. she is an omb for sure :Dwon't count her until she commits.

Here are the directions...

From Arlington, take I-20 East to 1382, turn Right (before I-20 splits and goes uphill towards Duncanville).
This will take you past the Cedar Hill State Park and into a part of Cedar Hill.
Turn South (Right) on Highway 67 (This is just after Wal-Mart, Kroger, McDonalds, Whataburger, etc).
Take 67 South two or three miles to Mt Lebanon Road.
Turn RIGHT at the stop sign. Follow Mt Lebanon for .7 miles.
Turn RIGHT on Texas Plume Road just past the large white mansion.
Go past the Baptist Camp. Go about 1 mile.
Do not take the first turn into Lester Lorch Park. It is only an upper section with a wild flower area.
Continue past this entrance to the second entrance on the right with a fence and a long, downhill, driveway.
Parking will be at the bottom of the drive.

Feel free to call Brian L. if you get lost. 972-998-1311. I assume the directions are about the same from Dallas, only you go west on I-20, instead of east.
If you have them available, bring work gloves, loppers, rakes, a chainsaw, and drinks. Last Saturday, Brian supplied a pizza lunch. If you don't have the tools, don't worry about it. There are plenty to go around. We even have extra gloves.

No matter what the weather, wear long pants and long sleeves. If you are extremely alergic to poison ivy, inform Brian L so you will work on an appropriate location. We still have a couple, maybe three, holes to clear. We've been clearing holes out of very thick, brush. It can take all day to cut a 600 foot hole. The rest is installing sleeves for the poles. This is an awesome course and will have 36 holes. We have 33 cut in so far. The city has purchased 36 baskets from Discraft. They should be in the ground within the next few weeks.

Oh, yes, you will want to bring discs. We always play the new holes after we finish building them.

Brian usually gets there around 9 AM. The rest of us start arriving as we rise and shine on Saturdays, usually around 11. We usually don't leave the park until dark, but that's after we've played a few holes.

Thanks again. Look forward to seeing you.

I'll be putting a new chain on the chain saw tonight, and will see if I have a brush-cutter head for the weed-eater.

I need a new chain since the last person that used it thought dirt would cut as easy as trees.

I haven't tried to start it for quite a while. If I have a problem getting it started, will there be small engine experts at the course that would make it worth bringing anyway ?

I was busy taking care of "baby" stuff these last few days. Ryan has been busy with some other adventures all weekend. I'm sure he will fill you guys in later.

Ryan and I both saw the Cedar Hill course back in August at the Championships fundraiser tournament they did. That was a temporary course that will never be seen again. We both saw so much potential with the land. It doesn't surprise me at all that you guys are saying how great the course will be. I just wish I would be available to play the Big Show @ Cedar Hill next month. I'm sure a round of Smack-Talk-Ript-Doubles will be in order sometime soon.

Thanks for the well wishes on my B-day. Two of the best B-day presents I got were $40 cash to buy disc golf stuff, and a $30 gift certificate to Gotta Go Gotta Throw. That's $70 closer to buying the Mach V Hammertone Red portable basket that I want. :D One step closer to OMB status.

Rebecca and I are in the process of buying some wooded property in Corinth, just about 8-10 minutes north up I-35 from the Lake course. I didn't get to throw a single disc all weekend  but I got to spend all weekend with Pebbles working on our dream home... I'll gladly take that trade-off :D

It sure sounds like Cedar Hill is coming along very nicely... that sure is good to hear. That land looked promising back when I last saw it (and played it), and I hope like heck I can get down there this next weekend. I assume there's still more work to be done, correct?

The Roast went well. Father Dave Ain't dead yet! It was a good gathering on a cold and blustery eve. The Roast went on for almost 3 hours with Julie's Mom heckling John H. from the start. Kind of strange seeing that happen to the Houckster. Many of story was told about how people can't remember the first time they met Dave, but can give a year or so reference :D

I met several folks I hadn't met before. I think I met Daryl, but there was so much going on constantly until I left. It was a good time for Dave and maybe too much for some folks :o, but that's a different story
