Just a little FYI for Francine and Geraldine...Josh and I just put up a -8 at GB against PDGA# 7244 Scott Vaughn and Billy....

they hit the first 5 in a row...then we rolled....5 stroke win...You had better flip well OMB's....the YGB teams are rolling at GB this week.

Frank and John Baumhauer got the best of myself and Kendall Steel this evening in doubles at the Vet :mad:.......But I did manage to CALL MY ACE on hole #4 and then proceed to hit it :D:D:p Frank and his SO made a a remark about how close they were so I said "what do you want me to ACE it??", Frank said whatever.......the next thing you hear is chains(very brief) and the sound of something hitting the pan(the bottom of it to be exact :eek:). I didn't even believe it was in until we finally walked through the gap in the trees and saw it in the bucket :o:D:cool:. Of course Frank and his SO of the evening signed my disc(in this order)......I didn't see it go in BUT nice ace.......and Lucky F'ing thumber ace............now that's class.........Keep in mind this is my first WITNESSED ace :mad::( :p ;)

FYI the only reason I said we needed to stick with a useable format is b/c we've started having a decent-sized turnout and if we aren't all playing the same game... people will have something else to ***** about. besides, you guys beat us fair and square. To me and everyone else (at least it seems) who has been playing, it's more fun to play draw dubs for a few bucks than to make everyone bring a partner and tag along with a challenge that has already been settled.

Also, for the record, this thing started with Gary and I going to a football field to measure distance throws, and then turned into a doubles match that night instead. As far as I'm concerned, it's still as fun as always. I think everyone else enjoys it too. I don't know if you're ****** about the draw part or the fact that I'm running it, but keep in mind that I don't get anything out of organizing things. I just do it so that nobody else has to. I do it so that there aren't any disputes over when and where or how the acepot and payout works or anything else. Believe me, if you or anyone else wants to take over, you're more than welcome. Or if people have probelms with me running our little dubs tourney, then we'll do a CTP for the acepot or something, and we'll just go back to casual or something...

If you're not playing draw doubles, then why WOULD you be part of it? If you would rather play a challenge match one particular day, then go for it. When we played our own game out at the lake while the other mini was going on, did we expect to be in their acepot and payout? no, of course not. duh.

Seriously, Frank is not the only one who doesn't like certain aspects of what this is becoming. I, personally, would like to see it go back to "bring your own partner, no money involved" doubles. The OMB vs. YGB is the part that has supposedly been settled, but in the original spirit of the thing, if I want to bring my wife out there and challenge just Frank and Shari to a round of doubles, that is what it's all about. That doesn't mean that everybody else has to bring their significant other to participate... only if they wish to do so and get in on the BamBam/Pebbles :D VS. Frank/Shari action. If not, then challenge someone else to whatever you want to. Point being, if there's 12 of us out there, we don't all 12 have to be participating in the same challenge... we can do our own thing, and still be out there together, enjoying each others smack-talking company.

Having said that, Josh, if you and your partner wish to challenge another team for money, then that is your prerogative... but it doesn't mean that everyone else out there has to pay in to participate.

First and foremost, we need to stop talking down to each other in a disrespectful manner before this goes any further and gets people's feelings hurt... that is NOT what this is about.

yeah, Ryan what you and Frank are missing is that nobody ever said don't come play a challenge round... just don't expect that to be part of the payout. the acepot/payout system was put in place for draw dubs, not for the challenges. If you want it to be a BYOP / challenge format then by all means do that. Frank has just been griping that he can't bring his own partner to a draw dubs mini and still get to compete in that mini. and yes, once again "DUH" is appropriate.

and BTW, I'm all for a spouse challenge night... D and I will gladly take on any of you. and for brags, not dollars. I liked the alternating shot format Chris did at the 24-hour marathon. I believe all parties involved played in that mini.

It was fun because of the smack and challenges. And all of us OMBs play Adv. Masters because of the people we play with, not because of a chance to cash.

Doesn't leave a lot of room for growth, but that was the fun part.

well, it wasn't my idea to start a payout. in fact, it came to be after mr. watts hit the ace at audobon and we all wanted to see that sort of thing rewarded. somebody suggested that we do $5 a head so that there was a little motivation for new people to come play and a little reward for whoever won.

True, it became "just another $5 draw doubles mini" but up until Frank started complaining, nobody else said a word about not liking it. I hate to see what last week was a fun night of golf among friends turn into something that "was" just because it has started following a more generic format. Regardless, I'm out. nobody asked. I volunteered. and I said many, many, many times that if anyone had a problem with it to just say so and I would step back. I even posted that on this very board. Things were getting VERY disorganized and somebody had to help out. I didn't once make a decision without first making sure it was what the majority of the group wanted. Not that it did me any good trying to make things better. I didn't benefit from it. I didn't make any money or sell any plastic or get any of the little benefits that TDs normally do. All I get is old men who can't just play golf and have fun rather than gripe and complain that it's not just how THEY want it to be. I get people who I considered friends bashing me in an open forum over something as trivial as a $5 mini. all this drama and crap over what?!?

If you had a problem you could have said something to me in private rather than here and we could have resolved it without starting this whole big thing. When I made the comment about "move your cart and let us play though" it was with a smiley (go ahead, look it up. I did.). that's called good-natured ribbing and in your own words is "the spirit" of this little STD. Plus I was only agreeing with everyone else that if we were gonna play draw dubs for $5 then you couldn't BYOP unless you just wanted to tag along and not participate in the payout.

Nobody was attacking you personally, don't take it that way.

I made no secret of how I felt about cash draw doubles when it was brought up on the course. I will play if I am there, it's just that I'm less likely to make a special effort to be there if I don't already have a partner that I can't leave hanging.

Besides, I prefer my practice rounds to be purely casual and condsider anything not in a sanctioned tournament to be practice.

That is going to make for alot of Casual TX10's :D- not sanctioned

I'm done with the STD. I've put in alot of time, effort, and money to organize the thing and all I get back is disrespect and griping from a very small minority of the players. I'm told that I've said "my way or the highway" even though every single thing I've done has been a majority concensus from the group. I now understand why TDs like Chris and Marka and Pizza have such a hard time keeping everyone happy when running big events. Even this little small one I tried to put together for you guys has turned into something terrible. It's not worth it to me to put in time and effort taking votes and trying to decide what will work best for the most people, then giving detailed directions to the course and sometimes even making advance an advance trip to a course so that I can lay out some long tees on a course that the group deems too short... then collecting money and dividing it up for the winners and the acepot even though I wasn't even too terribly keen on doing that in the first place... but it sounded like fun and I agreed to take care of it. It's not worth all that work just to be publicly flogged for enforcing the majority rule. I play DG to have fun, and I try to have fun no matter what the situation or format... but the fun in this one has been taken away from me. I don't care if y'all want to continue to play without me, but I'm done.

frank, for the last time, it was never "my way" at all. read the thread. I took votes on everything. Also, you keep saying "dictator" when that doesn't even make sense. I offered help and said at any time I would back off if somebody had a problem with it. nobody ever voiced a concern before last night, and the fact is that you chose a PUBLIC method for doing so. regardless if this is our thread or not, anyone up to and including the queen of england herself can read it if they want to. If you had just pulled me aside last week and said hey bud, i have issues with this or that I would have gladly talked about it with you, man-to-man, and if need be, stepped down. not like I was getting anything out of organizing it... and if you look back in the thread, you will see that yes, in fact, somebody did need to organize it. before I offered to do it, we couldn't even figure out where we wanted to play next. also, I never compared myself to any of the professional (and semi-pro) TDs, I just said I understand why it's so hard to make everything jive in a big event if a tiny one like this has so many issues.

think about this: what did I have to gain from organizing the STD? nothing. when did I EVER say "it's gotta be my way?" true, I agreed with adam that payout should be restricted to the draw doubles, but I never said you weren't allowed to play or anything like that.

this did start with BYOP challenges, but once those challenges were settled, we (as a group) expanded it to a $5 draw dubs mini with the same smack talk theme. the part with me running it started with taking VOTES on where to play. then I offered to collect the money (that OTHER people decided was a good idea) and it just kinda continued from there.

The "small majority" is you and apparently BamBam who are griping about things. even mr duke chimed in once you got the ball rolling, but nobody ever said anything to me personally. besides, everyone else was fine with $5 draw and I think most appreciated the fact that I was willing to put in some work to organize the group. it was simple and fun and it worked just fine. it was also (of course) optional. nobody forced your hand at anything, yet you still got bent out of shape. doesn't even matter now anyway b/c I'm tired of the drama and crap that has come out of it. I was always very clear when I said I was only doing it to help out, and I would stop if anyone had a problem with it. mostly b/c I didn't want to cause this sort of thing. I can even read back a few pages and quote myself if you don't believe me.

The fact is, Frank, that you could have showed a little respect and just talked to me about whatever was bugging you. a few pages back you even posted something about not dissing mr. sayre on here, that any issues should be resolved over the phone, in private. then you turned right around and did it yourself to me. I beg to differ. I said more than once that draw doubles would interfere with good long lasting smack talk. You can't talk a lot of smack when the target may be your partner the next time out. I also said that I would prefer that we did not bring cash into the picture. 51 is a good way to pay aces, and I paid my $5 for the ace. I just wasn't going to start in on the topic here. Someone else started it, I just gave my opinion.

I have to make arrangements to get away early enough to make golf on a weekday. Doing it every week is very difficult. I was glad the original thing was settled because I wouldn't be able to make it every week for very long. But that's not because any one or three people out there upset me.

gary, it's regrettable that you can't make golf every thursday, but with that in mind, would you oppose those of us who can make it more easily playing a format that we agree on? one thing that keeps getting left out by you OMBs is that I never mandated a change or anything else for that matter. most of the group wanted to change, so we did. your points are still perfectly valid.

hypothetically speaking, if 10 golfers are playing a mini and 7 of those 10 want to play one format and 3 want to play a different one, what would be the best way to handle that? according to what frank has written here, the issue is less about the format change, and more about the "dictatorship" I apparently forced everyone to unwillingly succumb to.

Well, it may have looked good, but there are times when it doesn't feel that good. It's tweaked just enough that it affects my line... there are times that I have no confidence in where the shot will go, and I absolutely cannot throw rollers or overhand shots like this.

Not an easy game to win (and often costly if one does win), but very entertaining to watch when played between masters of the game.

The key point is to not take anything personally, and nothing too seriously. Remember everything works better if based on a little truth, but only a little truth is needed.

Take it from one of the leading smack "targets" around, who's used to getting smacked on and off the course (hehehe), a little self confidence and thicker skin will allow you to enjoy all this a lot more.

Seriously, I read Franks posts and I think I know him pretty well. In my opinion, if he wanted to actually get physical with ya, he wouldn't be talking about it on the board. I think he was saying that he ain't ducking you or anybody else. But I'll let Frank speak for Frank, even though he probably could use an interpreter. :)

Mark, i was upset after my waco showing, but it wasn't because you beat me, it was because for 3+ hours of golf, I couldn't control anything and felt like I had never played before. It was an extremely frustrating tournament overall. To be honest, you played well enough that time to beat me even if I had been on my game. Anyway, I do know frank pretty well, and I've talked enough smack with him to recognize that. This is different. he took it to a personal level, and even when I gave him the chance to talk it out and bury the hatchet, he refused. I've tried to fix this and Frank wants no part of that. so, I'm done.

On a lighter note, Mark I'll have a distance competition with you any time, anywhere :) you can even use cware's red wildcat
