congrats pebbles, but what were you bagging in novice for :Di'm meeting some guys from work at audubon monday morning at 7;30 we could get a mixed match up after that. haven't heard from p.t. but his wife plays also. i know jason lurks on this thread but him and ginetta would probally be to skeered anyways to show up :D unless ginetta dumped him again for clayton :Dyou guys let me know if we can get this going.

oops sorry josh forgot about you and dedire. you available monday for mixed dubs? oh and adam and brian :D

baldguy
Sep 05 2004, 03:08 PM
I think we can make mixed dubs tomorrow. what format? standard best shot? alternate shot like at the 24-hour was fun too. If we do someplace like mckinney that plays fast, we could do both. or maybe a 9-hole like fritz or the colony that we could do 9 best shot and 9 alternate shot... or whatever. isn't there a 9-hole in rowlett or rockwall? we've never played that one. Somebody figure out where and when and what format. we're in :)

one more thing, I think I figured out a way I can help with some organization, and not step on any toes. I'm working on a website which is mainly going to be a place for people to order the charity t-shirts we had made up. I'm also going to integrate a calendar, forum, and poll system. That way we can make a calendar of where we're playing the STD, and we could even all vote on it. I know the calendar will be useful, the rest is just an idea.

The website should be ready this weekend for the shopping part, and if you guys want the rest or part of the rest, let me know. I'll also need a few people to look at it before I officially announce it so that I can get some feedback before the public sees it. If anyone wants to help me out with that please let me know. PM and I'll send you the URL (web address)

We're here... just had a nice slow-paced kinda day, that's all. I think we'll be up for playing sometime tomorrow, but I don't think we'll be going over to Audobon. We'll probably play the Lake, McKinney, or maybe even Porter.

I'll check on here in the morning to see if anyone has any other ideas.

Brian, Brian, Todd and I will be hitting the Lake around 2:15 thanks to all this rain.

The Hutchinson, KS course was great this weekend, except I had to remember what 25mph winds were like to play in. I got my mom to play her very 1st 18hole round as well as my 10yrs old cousin.

Way to Go STD group at the Alex Clark. Still waiting to see if they will put up some scores. Did anyone travel to the ZBOAZ event?

ACE #13 FOR ME...#2 AT THE LAKE!!

sorry I couldn't have used it at McKinney or Z

baldguy
Sep 07 2004, 09:33 AM
congrats on the ace! too bad it's a "blind" hole and therefore a "lucky" shot ;) :p

We ended up playing at greenbelt, but only about 10 holes since we spent an hour in the creek looking for discs. There are leeches in there! Also, before anyone says anything, it wasn't me or deidre throwing in the creek, rather the other couple we played with. starting on #1, all the way through #5, at least one of them threw in. slow golf, but at least we got to play a little. and yes, it was muddy. Where's my shiny new golden retriever? :D

okcacehole
Sep 07 2004, 10:09 AM
Thanks....and yes it was completely blind...we didn't even hear it...just came over the hill to look for it and Jeff asked whose disc was sitting in the goal. Glad it was mine.

As far as the Golden Retrievers I haven't got back with him yet on this, as I would like to get Joe and Chris to grab some for their events also. The more we could buy at once the better. I will do something soon on this.

Leaches - I had one from that water last year. Makes you feel real good about what else is in that water.

Is that the similar to "not being the sharpest nail in the box"? :D

How about some GB this week to get in some more before Mr Jims

Forgot to mention that the disc I hit #2 at the Lake with yesterday was the same disc I lost at Porter 2 weeks ago and that Woody returned to me.

hmmm funny thing, my friend Charlie also had an ace like that on #2. I wonder if the hill somehow blocks the sound of the chains, or if there are midgets who live in the woods and like to sneak up and turn parkjobs into "aces"... :D

One of them wrote something similar to that one there. Something like "didn't see it, didn't count"...it was super windy out there yesterday and there were groups of 6 or more on a majority of the holes.

Where the heck is everyone today?...is GB the place to play?

bambam
Sep 07 2004, 04:11 PM
Congrats on the ace yesterday, Adam... anything close to the pin in that wind yesterday was a good drive, no doubt!

hey guys, I've added a calendar to my new website so we can start keeping track of STD locations :) I'm putting all kinds of stuff on there. We need to figure out how to handle the organization of this thing. I can do something like put up a poll for all of us that runs from Friday - Wednesday, then Wednesday night it automatically takes the results of the poll and creates an event on the calendar for Thursday. That way everyone gets a vote... if we do that, we'll probably want to end the poll a week early so that folks know where it will be a week in advance. Here's the website info:

jdann.homelinux.com Portal (http://jdann.homelinux.com/portal/)

you can view the calendar without registering, but in order to post events or play arcade games, or do any shopping, or access any of the cool features I'll be adding, you'll need to create a login (of course it's free) and sign in. Once you do that, your menu will change and you'll have access to lots more stuff. This is my beta offering of this site, so please feel free to comment. In fact, I'll be adding methods for you to do that right in the page.

For those other geeks out there: It's running on a sparc-based Solaris server. Apache2, PHP5, MySQL4. I'm using Mambo OpenSource as my back-end.

Anyway, thanks in advance for the help, guys. Mark and Mark, thanks again for the help you've already given. Everyone keep in mind that for now this is hosted on a sorta slow connection, but will eventually be up in a colo and very quick. Let me know if you have any questions.

Josh - I told Dieder he and I would shoot some doubles sometime, so if he gets out tonight we are going to give it a run, if not you and I can try to beat that 8 we put up. He isn't sure if he will be able to get rid of his shift or not, but said he would let me know later today. They were out playing night golf when I talked to him.

Sep 10 2004, 08:08 AM
The one score that I can remember quite well is that -12 that was almost a -13 when I hit the basket from ~55' and PT just misses his putt on #17. I think I remember hearing Adam and Dieter shot -9. Good conditions for golf last night.

GW, we on for Porter Saturday morning at 8:30?

prediction bam bam and watts for the win. p.s. i'll be available this weekend if anybody would like to get together. would really like to do the mixed dubs if any body is still interested. somebody will have to organize though

hmmm looks like the OMB group lost their motivation with you gone, Frank :( I think they finished -5 to PT/ReddMan's -12. We won't talk about my score :D

I think we could be in for mixed dubs on Sunday. I am planning on playing in carrollton all weekend to get ready for next weekend. How's about we bring it here? Porter Early on Sunday? Or afternoon? I'd like to avoid the heat of the day, if possible... even though it has been cooling down.

Anyone? Mixed dubs?

possible teams I know of:
Frank / Shari
BamBam / Pebbles
Josh / Deidre
PT / Mrs. PT :)
Watts / Bitner

Great to Hear out of you Francine and don't go with a career as a psychic :D The OMB's were handed their games last night...even Little big Mouth and my brother - the Mouth were only 1 stroke off of them.

So far the OMB's always fall unless it is D&D..and we even got them ONCE at the Lake...Move up you ol stinkers :o

Keep us posted Frank and I will be in for the Carollton golfing this weekend..Todd and I might go shoot today after work.

hey, guys I put up a poll system to vote on which course we want to play for the STD. It still needs a little work, but it's functional now. go to my website:

jdann.homelinux.com/portal/ (http://jdann.homelinux.com/portal/)

log in, and vote! you also get other cool stuff when you log in, like arcade games (as competitive as we all are, I expect the high score list to fill up fast :D) and shopping (soon) and all kinds of other stuff.

P.S. gnduke: are you running PHP5 on the zt10 website? I'm kinda wanting to go back to PHP4... just wondering what you think

baldguy
Sep 13 2004, 01:44 PM
Yeah, I didn't mean to leave the details up for everyone to see, but like I said before, it's a work in progress. My intention is to make it a "secret ballot," then post the results (probably without user information, just totals) when I end the poll. I went ahead and removed the ability for users to see the results before I post them :)

gnduke
Sep 13 2004, 01:48 PM
No it's more fun to see who is voting for what course.

testap

Sep 13 2004, 02:54 PM
ok, ok... back to the way it was. I also fixed the little window resize bug, and I'm working on a couple others with it. feedback is a good thing :D One thing to keep in mind is that there will be a 7:00 mini already at Porter this Thursday. and with the MJCO coming up, that mini will be pretty full. dark or no dark.

testap
Sep 13 2004, 03:29 PM
so what was the verdict on course selection from week to week?? Are we going to vote each week or vote on a rotation? I think a rotation would simplify it.

baldguy
Sep 13 2004, 03:55 PM
I was thinking maybe lets vote on a few different things... here are the ideas so far:

straight-up rotation
we start by voting on how many parks will be in the rotation. once that is settled, we then start at week 1 and vote our way through one rotation. once we've gone through the decided number of parks, the rotation is solidified, put on the calendar, and we play that rotation from then on. very little work involved after the initial voting, but also no variation in the rotation.

rotation with one "wildcard" week
same as above, but the last week of the rotation will be a "wildcard." We will keep a running vote for the entire rotation until one week before the wildcard. Then the votes are tallied and the course we pick is put on the calendar. The vote is then reset and we vote again for our next wildcard. This way we have a steady rotation of courses, but we can still throw in a park that might not be popular enogh to be part of the "main rotation" (like the colony, Fritz, Shawnee, whatever). A little bit of work, but also a little bit of variety.

vote every week
just like it sounds, we vote for one week to decide which course is played the following week. most work to do, but the most variety.

These are just my ideas. If anyone else has a suggestion, let me know and I can add it to the list before we decide. I know it probably seems like I'm overdoing the voting thing, but I think it will provide a way for us all to have a say in what happens and still give us organization. Also, it's not that hard to do, I've already done most of the work it requires.

I can even put up a poll for what kind of beer I will buy with the ace pot money :) FYI - it will not be this week since we will be in Carrollton. I've already gotten a very expensive ticket for having alchohol in a carrollton park... and I don't want another one. I will buy the beer next week though if you guys pick a beer-friendly park :)

I am out on Wed. :mad:I sure don't understand why you guys think we can't play at Porter b/c of a Mini!! You guys drive me crazy with that. We have a freakin tourny there this weekend who cares about a mini.. I think if the majority votes on Porter that is where we should play.

okcacehole
Sep 14 2004, 12:11 PM
Why do you want to play on a course that is already going to be full of people in an organized mini. We are barely getting done with a round before dark on a course that is empty.

baldguy
Sep 14 2004, 12:32 PM
I think if one group starts at 5:15 or so and the other at about 5:45-6:00 we can get it done and stay out of the mini's way. Still... with the tourney this weekend, that mini is going to be very full. They usually have about 35 or so people show up, and they fill the course (some of them play very slow).

I'm down for whatever, just thought I'd offer the chance to vote on it. I may even play Porter tonight since it'll be nice and empty :D

Well we are going to have to do something as far as start time anyway. Days are getting shorter. The people who can get there early should start playing and then the later group should be able to play faster. I want to play Porter b/c I don't get to play that course much!!

okcacehole

they definitely will take a LOT longer than us... but they don't get started till 7:00. If we start early, like 5:30 or so, we can be nearly done by the time they get started. we'd be near holes 14-16 and they never start anyone out that far. It *could* work out just fine :D

ReddMan and I partnered up last year. We might be able to do that again this year, although our luck as partners has not been the best. Either way, I'll be looking to tee off around 5:00.

Still looking forward to metting Jerry...I have known his brother Kyle for years up in Norman.

Shari said Frank was coming to GB, so hopefully we can all tee close to 4 or so.

so was there any golf today? I got so busy I couldn't even read the boards. in fact I just finished working for the day and I gotta get up and be there again at 7:00. I'm gonna try and negotiate a short day tomorrow, so I might be able to get out to the golf course early enough to catch a round of dubs. I had a pretty nice round yesterday at McKinney, so I think I might be starting to pull out of the slump I have been in :) I had a newbie partner, so we *never* used any of his shots.. and we shot -6 with a bogey (evens long)... not too bad for me. Anyway, cy'all tomorrow even if I have to play singles :)

I met up with Watts and PTBling at Porter yesterday. No mini there as they stayed up at the Lake. They were a little scared of the rain that happened earlier in the week. A few teepads are a little muddy, but we know that Bryan will take care of that by marking the pads somewhere else. For 22 holes, I think PT shot a -12 or -13. I shot a -6. Watts stopped putting after a while. He will be putting much better today! The most entertaining part of our round was the newbie that was with us. The hat and the face were quite funny every time he threw. :D

Nice birdie on 16, PT!

Yes, it was regular 16. I don't think GW and I will make it by 4:00. We should be ready to play just shortly after 4:30. My wife's car is in the shop; so I can play doubles today, GW is stopping by to pick me up from work. And you thought he wasn't such a nice guy. :D
