Team Divot will be in full effect in Tulsa. Jeb, Fred, Oakie Rob, and I are all planning on going. I'm not sure about anyone else from the area. Sean Goo too! I think that we're gonna fly, just because of time and money!

Do I count as a Greenville golfer and therefore part of the INVASION, or am I more like a hired mercenary that helps with the fighting occasionally?

At any rate, I'm gonna try to get to Tulsa, just have to figure out transportation.

Northeast flights, round trip for $220 PByrd, snag one while you can. I wouldn't call you a mercenary, more like a hired gun. You're what we call a transplant. Started in Gville, ran away to find some people that you can beat, ooooooohhhhhhhhh.

Nah, see I moved west to spread the goodness that is G-Vegas disc golf, to let people know what they're missing, and make them a-feared of those that frequent the Meadow. Simple as that. I couldn't find that $220 flight either, can you maybe send me some more info? That'd be excellent.

I'll be at Farm Life this w/e. First tournament I ever played, gots to get back to cap a year of competitive golf. Scotty, I talked to Max earlier, and he said you might have some room in your car this weekend, if this is so, get in touch.

I believe, at this state in planning, we are going to be staying with Okie Rob's fam. We're trying to keep costs down for Divot Inc., so that would definitely be the cheapest. If that falls through, I'll be camping. You're heading up there this year Jay? How are you getting up there? I know that Sean and PByrd are lookin into going. Trust me dude, Chris plays well above his rating. I played a couple rounds with him a few months ago at the AM Crosstown, a large AM event for NC. Chris displayed a level of aged maturity, class, and was a pleasure to be around for the day. I can't say that about everyone. It was only after the rounds that I found out how young he was. He will certainly be a contender, although I am thinking perhaps next year. All you AM's better watch out for Chris Howard from Charlotte. He dodged the radar for a long time, now he is just whooping some Bottoms!

It is with the saddest heart that I pass on the following news.

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community.

The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection, and complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.

Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, who has a bun in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.

Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Buttersworth, Hungry Jack, The California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies and Captain Crunch.
The grave site was piled high with flours.

Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart "cookie", wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes.

Despite being a little flaky at times, he still, as a crusty old man, was considered a roll model for millions.

The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

The workday on Wednesday was very good. All but one of the holes tee pads have been worked on (hole 8) and now have more dirt around them to replace that which wore away. Some bench areas were cleared of the weeds that were trying to grow up around them. The tree on 15 had split and half of it had fallen. A lot of the debris was cleared and moved away. There is still a very usuable route on the right from the white tees and a very fair shot from the blue tees. Also hole 8 and 16 had some work done on the fairways.
There is another workday on Saturday @ 10 am.

Jun 08 2006, 02:10 PM

Plus, there's alot to be said about only missing one fairway in a round! Nice shooting Scotty, my putt-ner. And I didn't not get a 40. I did have a pitcher of Guiness with the Eagle man Jeb. That was pretty close!

Yeah, the course could be a little more testing I guess. But as it stands, I think the longs are a competetive course. Good mix of shots and add in the alt. pins and it's pretty darn hard. If we could only add some elevation, water, and fast greens. Next course that GVDG embarks on should have all of those, if possible.

I have always felt the blues are a great course simply b/c you can shoot anywhere from 47 - 55 at any given time. However, if there is one complaint about it I would have about it, it would be that there is not much score seperation on it unless someone kills it or someone blows up.

For anyone who hasnt heard the Meadow is more than half underwater due to flooding from all the **** water in the Tar River sent down from the western parts of the state, Doubles will be held at ECU today, and im just assuming that were gonna have to have a cleanup day sometime soon, cause alot of stuff will be messed up

Jun 20 2006, 09:29 AM
Yeah, I'm pretty sure dubb's will be at ECU on Thursday as well. Water isn't supposed to crest until tomorrow, so the Meadow will be completely submerged by then. WOW! Go Canes!

so man how bad is it? is there going to be permenant damage to one of my favorite courses in the south? i mean is the baseball field and all that under water or is it just that low lying feild? holla and if there is going to have to be a massive clean up to get that gem back up and running let me know i wil lend a helping hand for sure. man i ahve already put the DEPC on the schedule hope this does not have any bearings on my new favorite tourny.

Jun 20 2006, 10:40 PM
Yo dave let me put it this way if i had a dragon in my bag and i had a raft i could play the hole course. the only holes that u could play with out hitting water and this is if u park these hole and i mean park as of touching the pole was 3, 13, and 15 and to play these holes u really needed a raft to get to them. there really should not be that much damage it is just sticks that floted around and trash cans that floted like all round the place. thank god this didnt happen in Oct.

The damage should not be major, just some post flooding clean up of debris. Both Cindy and I have taken pictures and will post them soon. There has to be hundreds of frogs out there and the sound of them is deafing. We will let everyone know the status after the Tar River is back where it belongs.

Jun 20 2006, 10:49 PM
Doubles Thursday will be at the ECU course with a few changes. Max and I have made some "Purple Tees" for the ECU course that we will mark and play Thursday. These are not major, just some slight tweaks to add something new to a layout. Some of them are similar to the old alternate course that was there. We will let everyone know when doubles will be back at The Meadow.

Max, PJ and I checked out The Meadow on Friday and we are happy to say that the flood damage was minimal. Both of the benches on 18 came out of the ground but did not float away and will be put back in. There is still quite a bit of standing water but it looks to be draining away. No major damage has been found so keep your fingers crossed. One bit of news though is that the entrance to the other parking lot is closed due to repairs that Greenville Utilities is doing to replace a collapsed manhole area. This should not affect the course. Hopefully we will get some light rain to wash away some of the loose debris that has accumulated on the course.

Thanks PByrd. That reminds me of one of the many reasons we ended up forming our club and making a new course. I checked The Meadow again and there is some standing water still that is slow in moving out but it is on the way out. Also they are not done with the work in the other driveway. Just keep hoping for hot days that will dry it up. See you folks at doubles. :)

John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several
hundred young layers (hens, called pullets) and eight or ten
roosters, whose job was to fertilize the eggs. The farmer kept
records and any rooster that didn't perform went into the soup pot
and was replaced. The bookkeeping was a pain so he bought a set of
tiny bells and attached them to his roosters.

Each bell had a different tone so John could tell from a distance
which rooster was performing. Now he could sit on the porch and fill
out an efficiency report simply by listening to the bells.

The farmer's favorite rooster was old Butch. A very fine specimen
he was too, but this particular morning John noticed old Butch's
bell hadn't rung at all. He went to investigate. The other roosters
were chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing. Meanwhile, the pullets,
hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

To Farmer John's amazement, Butch had his bell in his beak so it
couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to
the next one. John was so proud of Butch he entered him in the
county fair and Butch became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result: The judges not only awarded Butch the "No Bell Piece
Prize" but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well.

Clearly Butch was a politician. Who else could figure out how to win
two of the most coveted awards on earth by being the best at
sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't looking?

I like to tell people my worlds experience before they go and what I learned. My first round I was killing it. I was even par with 5 holes to go (the hot round was 56 in adv by JJ). I totally blew up and shot 64. After two more bad rounds, I was in like 108th. I end up finishing 26th.

There are so many rounds and so many strokes to make up. If you have a good round you are gonna move up like 30-40 spots. Don't think about the overall picture like I did for the first three rounds, one round at a time. It's a long week and there will be many moves all over the place.
Once I got settled in and had the "well lets just play and see what happens" mentality, I played at my level.

You guys are some great golfers and I wish that you guys have the time of your lives playing golf, seeing new courses, traveling together, meeting new people and just enjoying some vacation time!

Club elections are over and the elected officers for 2006-2007 are as follows:
President: Max Crotts
Vice President: Todd Markov
Treasurer: Stewart Goodson
Secretary: Jason Myers

I will be taking the position as advisor and will still be the Tournament Director for the Down East Players Cup. We wish all the officers the best of luck in their upcoming term.

Next Monday, July 24, is the anniversary of the passing of Robert Wynne. In honor of him and his love of calling other golfers "Baggers", doubles will have only one division and that will be amateur. This way we can honor the love and enthusiasm he brought to the game and maybe hear him call us all baggers one more time.

what a great way to honor remember and laugh about a great friend who we all miss like crazy. I still get chills everytime I walk up to number 11 at Farm Life thinking that that lucky fool aced that hole!

In the spirit of Robert, here's an article I wrote for Robert when I was writing for that other disc golf website.
Still one of the best pieces I think I have ever wrote.
A Fallen Brother (http://www.#$*&$!.com/editorials/fallen.html)

OK, I understand that block on the web address because of past actions of some of that group but since it pops up with a bad name I will try and say what the URL is (just look at the stuff in the bold).

Robert was United in his disc golf .comedy but his /editorals had fallen.html in like a sweet putt.

Stupid I know but got to get it posted lol.
MTL, I will try and have a link to that editoral posted on the GVDG site or might even place a copy of it there.

Here's the article

A Fallen Brother
It's a phone call no one wants. It's a friend calling with bad news. This time, Sean Gough, a fellow disc golfer, was calling with horrible news. "Uh, MTL, don't know how to say this, but Robert Wynne is dead."

Instead of the sound of chains getting slammed by putters all over eastern North Carolina, all you heard from disc golfers that day was their cell phone ring. No one could believe that something like this could happen to a guy like Robert. This just shouldn't happen to a guy with a 2-year-old son (Chandler) and a loving wife (Tiffany), but it did.

As I sat at his funeral later that week, I look around the room. Disc golfers from across eastern North Carolina showed up not in an Innova shirt, not in there born to deuce hat, not with quad shocks on their shoulders, not with portable stools on their side, but in shirts and ties. It was like watching pro wrestlers out of character; everyone at that funeral was different than I had ever seen them before. We all had come to pay tribute to a great friend and a great man for the sport. We all had heard the story of what happened on the day of his death.

Robert was on the way to play the course in Kinston, NC with some friends. According to the police and the only other person who witnessed the wreck, the dense fog from the morning prevented Robert from seeing a stop sign. He was T-boned and killed instantly.

Robert did so much for disc golf in eastern North Carolina. Living in Williamston, he was constantly a fixture at the town's course, Farm Life. Along side his buddy Jody White, Robert created the Three Rivers Disc Series. Three Rivers played 6 courses in the area and took the sport to a level eastern North Carolina had never seen before.

Perhaps the reason everyone loved Robert was his attitude and flat out honesty involving the game. When Justin Jernigan and myself traveled to the am worlds in Iowa in 04, we found out that Robert and Jody were on the same flight as us. Justin was everyone's pick to win am worlds and was joking with Robert on the plane about the predictions. Robert then looked at Justin with a straight face and asked him one simple question. "How are you supposed to win worlds when I'm going to?"

Another great story about Robert came at his funeral. The minister, a good friend of Robert's, gave a eulogy that sounded like Robert had written himself, filled with laughter and stories. "Robert worked with his hands. He chose to be a carpenter to support his family and told me why one night. He said 'well I figure that God made my body hard for two reasons.' I asked him why, he said 'cuz I had to be hard handed to work like this and hard headed to keep doing it.'"

After the funeral, the disc golfers banned up and just told stories of our fallen friend. Some told the story of the ace he hit on hole 11 at Farm Life, the only ace ever on the hole (play the course and you will understand why). Some told the story of how Robert screamed "bagger" to every single golfer that ever won a single thing. I told the story of Robert's comment to Justin on the plane. Everyone smiled because they knew that only Robert would ever say something like that.

A few months later, we had an idea. Disc golfers from all over the state played in the first ever Robert Wynne Memorial tournament at Kinston, the same course Robert was on the way to play the morning of his accident. Players from all over the country donated items such as a 2001 CE Roc, 10X Rocs, Super Rocs, and Metal Head Vipers to be auctioned off. Along with that money and money raised from the tournament entry fees, a check for around 2,000 dollars was donated to help with Chandler's education.

Perhaps the greatest tribute to Robert was from the President of the Greenville (a town near Williamston) Disc Golf Club, Scotty Faison. Along with paying for Robert to be a lifetime member of the club (which he was an original member of anyway) Scotty played the entire 2nd round of the tournament with a magnet.

This was no ordinary magnet. When Scotty had first met Robert, both Robert and Scotty were throwing magnets. Robert walked to Scotty and said "I know you throw these things, but I swear I can't stand this piece of crap so you can have it."

This white magnet was mainly used as a practice disc only until the Robert Wynne Memorial Tournament. I had the privilege of watching this magnet fly through Kinston that day.

As I saw that thing filter through almost every piece of rough on the course, I was reminded of Robert. He was one of those guys who just went for everything, and in true Robert form, Scotty did this as well. When the round was over, Scotty showed me the disc. I got a little teary eyed as the bottom of it still had written on it something I will never forget. It was so simple. You see it on every disc, everyday. You see, Scotty had never put his name or anything on this disc. I looked down at this magical magnet; it simply said "Robert Wynne #17117"

Rest in peace bro.

Wow, cause from what our local okie says, the bugs aren't really that bad in Tulsa. Or, at least not as bad as our flood soaked home in the ghetto. We will definitely be out there today, Fred said he's gonna play, but take it easy cause of his shoulder. We'll see you all in a while.

WOP, I don't think it's usually buggy in OK, but on the Worlds thread it said something about odd amounts of rain an mosquito breeding going on.

"Insect Repellant - You will probably only need this at Mohawk but with the rains that we have had the last few days, I'm sure the mosquito's are loving down and making babies as you read this. Mohawk also has ticks and when you get way off the fairway, you may find one of these creepy crawlers on ya, unless you have OFF."

And happy b-day PJ. See you at dubs?
