Dont let me see it during a tourney round.

Jun 01 2005, 10:43 PM
well the TD stated at the start of the tourney if anyone does any drugs/ drinks alcohol during the rounds and 2 people can verify it then the player that did that would be automatically DISCqualified and the paper work about it would be sent to the PDGA board.........so i think something would of happened.....but hey it doesnt matter cuz it didnt happen.....next topic please......congrats to me......i was the leader after the first round in an advanced A-tier.......yea i finished 9th....but a 55 is a hot score so lets stop talking about something that doesnt matter and lets focus on how good of a golf course we have here in gvegas and the proof of it by its regular players performing consistently better in each and every tourney that any of those players go to........some of yall consider this to be free domain and you can say what you want to say but this thread is about a new course in greenville.......and what a helluva course it is.......so lets talk about how well our players are doing and give props to one awesome course that has drastically improved everyones game in the gvegas area.........thats all i got to say....********

good post Mills...

Players in the area are learning the value of a 3 and you're right, its b/c of our new course. I'd like to say that most courses are birdie fests like ECU, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Our long tees test even the best golfer and teach our up and comers and that you don't have to birdie every hole to be successfull.

Jun 01 2005, 11:24 PM
And that a 3 can be a birdie, or an eagle for that matter. Kinda like GOLF huh?

MTL21676
Jun 01 2005, 11:34 PM
haha, way to poke fun of me at another thread..

BTW, our new course has a par 4, and we call par 55 on the course.

And while I think par does not matter, I'm a big fan of the par 4 and par 5 system. If I shoot a 50 at Cedar, in my mind I shot -6.

I find that using the par 4 and par 5 system has really helped my mental game. I started after my first round at worlds. I was "even" (more like 4 down) with 5 to go. Walt told me that for pros, 1 or 2 down would be hot, and I saw JJ half way through and he said he was 3 up, so I knew I was playing hot.

4 of those holes left were par 3's and the last was called the freak, a 900 foot par 5.

After struggling on the par 3's (inclduing a circle 5 on probably the easiest hole on the course) I had two holes left, a hole I told myself I would not go for simply b/c of the length and rough, and the freak.

I said, well I'm gonna at absolute best bogey the freak, and I'm +6 (more like +1), so I need to birdie this hole. I went for it, took a 4, then a 6 on the freak, shooting a 64.

My great round turned into a terrible one, and was one of the worst rounds I shot all week.

After two more rounds of terrible play basing everything on par 3s, I started caculating what I thoguht the course par was. Now, instead of a bogey on a 600 footer, in my mind, I was getting par.

I never shot a round over the true course par for the rest of the week.

Just a little story and some advice I hope helps somone. If I had not approached my first three rounds at worlds with a par 54 mentality, I really think I could have finished top 10.

Jun 01 2005, 11:46 PM
Well put. Par should ideally affect HOW you PLAY the hole. Unforetunately we have not always evolved to that point, and we have a long way to go. I play Cedar Hills as par 56 as well, i.e., a 4 on 13 or 18 will NOT loose you a stroke on the field (maybe to the aliens - Haney and Schweb and Schultz and Climo). BTW - my 3s on the long #17 at Valley Springs this weekend sure FELT like birdies. I still give that hole a 3.4 rating for par. Not quite a par 4, but very, very close.

MTL21676
Jun 01 2005, 11:50 PM
When I think of holes like 17 at Valley alt, or an even better example, hole 5 in the longs...I think they are par 3's cuz you can drive them.

But then I look at holes like pebble beach number 4 (http://www.pebblebeach.com/page.asp?id=1279) I think, well just b/c a pro golfer can drive them, doesn't mean its a par 3.

The grand majority of disc golfers are not going to drive hole 5 at Valley long, and the grand majority of golfers are not going to drive 4 at Pebble Beach.

Just a thought.

Jun 02 2005, 12:03 AM
winna winna chicken dinna !!!
You nailed it with that analogy. That hole at Pebble Beach was a product of great design (taking wind, green slope, terrain, bunkers (which disc golf could really use if we make 'em deep), "balls" (the attached kind) and other factors into account), and also having the resources to do that, which we often don't. Like I said, we have a long way to go...
How do you drive long #5 at Valley? An Optimizer? that a serious "S" bro... like hyzer hyzer hyzer, now TURN! :D

Lefty or a flick

Nate Bond missed a 40 footer on it for 2

Jun 02 2005, 12:13 AM
Man, I saw a few cashing pros throw very nice flicks there and come up short or hating it to the left of the original pin placement. That's a PERFECT shot to get within 30ish. I could see a lefty crushing a crazy anny up there that fades nicely. Guess I didn't think of that since I have no distance flick or left handed game. Very tough par 3, but not quite a par 4. I agree. Same with 17 long pin placement. #9 on the other hand.... :D

Jun 02 2005, 12:21 AM
Ok since we are actually on real discgolf topics,

Everyone dont forget Farm Life Open this weekend 4th--5th, so if your looking for a fun tourney with good camping and Saturday night glow doubles come on out, it may not be sanctioned but it still a good ***** time with a good payout, so if you dont feel like traveling very far to a tournament or are just bored this weekend come on out and experience a very tight wooded course

Jun 02 2005, 12:23 AM
i think i took a 3 on every one of those five holes where the basket was pushed back to another basket.....first time seein the course and i shot a 55.......why drive the hole to miss the putt and tap in for 3 when you can play a roc shot and then a putter shot and then tap in for 3......you dont have to birdie everything......once in a few years someone will put up that amazing round where they threw the best shot they could on every shot possible....this past weekend for example.....41 on the dark side of the grange......id say in a few more years that score will be tied......but no where close in the mean time.....they are tough yes...but if you use your head its not!! and mtl has a big head so this should be an easy decision for you

How do you drive long #5 at Valley?

There is a gap to the right of the fairway going over some trees. Throw something stable and you hyser back out into the clearing leaving yourself about 30-40' for the putt. I lipped out for the 2 in round 2 and got the 2 in round 4. I do not have a lot of distance either.

Jun 02 2005, 01:01 AM
I saw that gap and tried it.

I got a four.

Guess I missed the gap that you hit.

Second time around I threw up to the short pin (parked it -dang), threw a nice up shot and dropped in for a 3. Risk/Reward? Fluke-ish? I dunno.

Good afternoon sports fans. Today has turned into quite the event.

Was showing my dad the course for the first time today and he really likes it. Ran into Stew this morning. He moved some logs over to make a bridge to 9 long, and cut a hole in the bushes on 12 so you can see the basket. Think he was also clearing some limbs on 15 long. I went out later and pulled some vines on the side of 11. Also the army has invaded. They set up shop will a rock wall, stupid games, and a huge tent to trick... sorry i mean convince poor people to enlist. So its a no go on holes 2-4 untill they leave.

I'd also like to take this time, sports fans, and talk about a few of the problems I see with the younger generation. In particular the confused college students of ECU. I was driving down greenville blvd. by the new bojangles and noticed a fundraiser of types going on in the parking lot. It was if i'm not mistaken a jumpathon, with people holding buckets to collect money from people at the stop lights. They also had the required trampoline, lawn chairs, and coolers of beer. However in these lawn chairs drinking the beer were young well developed females while jumping on the trampoline were underdeveloped frat boys with popped collars. Needless to say they did not get my money. Am i the only person to find confusion with todays events?

Max never let anyone say you dont have sound judgement, the choice not to give money to the frat boys was a good one, that would be wellll not natural. anyway, me and max will be out tommorow doing work and trying to get the army men to march down some vines, if possible will we also be having a tag round, so whoever wants to join call me or max

jonvee
Jun 12 2005, 10:41 PM
If anyone way unhappy with the amount of crap on the left of 16's fairway can be happy now, me, max, stew, and sean took out an assload of the vines and crap, so everyone please feel free to walk on the newly cut areas as much as possible so the crap dont grow back, so try not to hit the fairway to often so you have to walk over there to take your next shot and wear it down. see yall tommorow

Jun 13 2005, 12:26 AM
well i hit the fairway everytime but ill walk through all that crap to help wear it down as i walk up to my disc thats under the basket.....********!!!

Stew came up with the idea of going to Christies instead of Hams. Christies gave us 500 for sponsership and we need to support them.

Everyone and anyone come on out to Christies after I win doubles.

I want to thank everyone who came to Christies last night, most of all Dave Schraeder. After he finished their bottle of Blackberry liquor, and drank Jaeger and beer, he joined us in throwing discs down Jarvis street, past city mart, towards Unks. I believe PJ won the CTP, and Tony ended up on the roof of city mart with my pro cobra. Instead of giving up on my cobra, Dave took the initiative to scale the roof (drunk) and retrieve my precious disc. This could not be acomplished by means of the front, so Dave went to the back of the mart and scaled a drain pipe up to the roof. Easily my disc came down, but David was not so lucky. After coming up the drain pipe, David made the call that the pipe was too unstable to support him on his descent.
So what do you do hotshot. Call for help, find a ladder. I think not. David in his drunken stupor took the high road. He jumped from the roof of the mart to the roof of a nearby house, not a small gap by any means, 8 feet down, 8 across, if he missed it was over twenty feet to the ground. As soon as he hit the roof there was no turning back. Dave gave Tony and I a look like a man on a mission. Without hesitation dave jumped from the house's roof onto the equivalent of large stick, a small tree which was not nearly strong enough to support a full sized man. The top of the tree broke and fell, with David holding tight, into the darkness of the backyard 15 feet below.
As I realize that the fall was a lot longer than we previously thought, i peered over the fencing and could not spot David. I wondered if a drunk lanky golfer could survive such a fall intyo the abyss. I called into the dark for Dave to see if he was safe, but alas no reply was given. Hope began to fade when Dave jumped out of the bushes, back into the light, in one piece. Apparently he landed square on his feet and rushed out of the backyard before the inhabitants realized what the loud thud and subsequent crack was. As we walked back to the lot of Christies, Dave gave the simple fairwell, "until the next bar".

MTL21676
Jun 17 2005, 09:13 PM
Yes there is a monthly....10:00

from ECU's course...(corner of Greenville and Charles aka 264 alt and 13)

Go on Charles towards campus, running parrell with 12.

Straight until downtown....gonna reach an intersection downtown where you can't go straight due to one way roads....go to the right at this intersection....

You will go through a few stop lights....road ends at a stop sign...turn left (1st st.)

Take a right at the first light....this will take you over a bridge..

Go around the turn past the concrete company....first left after the concrete company (no road sign)....if you get to the light, you missed it.

Immediatly take another left....this road dead ends into the course.

There's a faster way that doesn't have you driving through downtown. Come down 264 and take a left on Memorial and take that towards the airport. If I am right then there are 2 more turns you have to take but those are turns to get into the neighborhood and then to the park.

Real jobs, the only thing keeping greenville disc golfers from blowing up the world tour. I know one thing, if I didn't have to work, and played everyday, and had a car and stuff, I would be like, tearing it up for real.

you can still play everyday, you just gotta get off the couch

Only GVDG golfers with jobs are allowed to respond to me about not being able to golf. Going to school an hour a day doesn't make you tired or prevent you from doing anything, does it!

I worked everyday, and I still played disc golf EVERY chance I got. You never heard I'm worn out or I just want to chill. I just played. Check it out. No excuses.
