ESTACADA, Ore. – Time travel may not be possible yet, but try telling that to Catrina Allen.

A late-round hot streak and a one-hole playoff had Sunday’s final round of the Beaver State Fling feeling a lot like the same tournament here in 2016. Just like two years back, Allen emerged victorious, knocking off Paige Pierce in extra frames to rack up her first National Tour victory of the season.

ESTACADA, Ore. – Eagle McMahon knew he had a three-shot lead over his closest cardmate as he headed into hole 12 during Sunday’s Beaver State Fling final at Milo McIver State Park’s Riverbend East Disc Golf Course. He was simply looking to nail down a victory.

Instead of a nail, though, that fastener came in the form of a pin.

ESTACADA, Ore. – For someone who had just shot a 9-under par round to take the lead at the Beaver State Fling, Simon Lizotte wasn’t terribly excited. Dressed head to toe in black, his sartorial choice matched his somber mood.

“If I could finish rounds, I’d be really good,” he said, resignation in his voice.

ESTACADA, Ore. – Discs floated gracefully across the sky. Paige Pierce and Catrina Allen carted around brightly hued towels. Vanessa Van Dyken was all smiles. There were umbrellas everywhere.

The third round of the Beaver State Fling could have been mistaken for a day at the beach for the Open Women’s division if it weren’t for all the pesky precipitation falling from above.

She’s already finished her two rounds at the Beaver State Fling, but she’s waiting for one more card to wrap up before she can make it all the way to her car and put this nearly 12-hour day to bed.

ESTACADA, Ore. – “I love Milo.”

A.J. Risley is standing under one of the innumerable conifers that encircle tournament central at Milo McIver State Park’s Riverbend Disc Golf Course. Though the tone of his voice is one that signifies levity more than reverence, his words are what carry the weight. He, like so many other here this weekend, truly admires this venue and everything it delivers.

Risley is standing next to his touring cohort Eric Oakley, who is more than happy to share how smitten he is.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and Paige Pierce is walking through the DeLaveaga Golf Course parking lot after a runaway win at the Santa Cruz Masters Cup. She’s come to the realization that she is still undefeated in 2018.

It’s the middle of May.

“Yeah, it’s crazy,” she said. “Crazy.”
