Me too... :o :( For some reason the sweet sixtys elude me every time, and oddly enough it appears that as playing conditions improve, my score worsens...
The weekend was great- the course looked beautiful (as always, but especially with the leaves changing), I played with great ladies and John started us on hole 1 all three rounds, and I took Vince's bounty card in Poker.*
Thanks again John (and the extended Biscoe family) for such a fun, well organized weekend. I wouldn't change a thing- except I would have liked more of my putts to go in. Or less circles on my card. All it's going to take is more practice, or an eraser- but my card will improve next year one way or another! :D

Thank-you John and Family for providing us with an unforgetable week-end. The weather was great (who said there would be rain?) The course looked great (autumn at HawkHollow, no better time) The cows were away (many presents were left) The Dinner was YUMMY (not to mention home made cookies) The Ladies were treated like Gold(hole 1 & 10 all rounds!) And Trophies worth MOOING for. Thanks again John!!!!!

Walt - Well I want to know what you think.

Larry - It's touching the log.
Schwebby - I think there is a stick.

My god John...you have created a masterpiece. This course is just too great to put into words. The dinner you prepared on Saturday night was out of this world as well. Mad love to all that helped with this tournament. 'Lunches by Ty' were incredible as well...if you missed this tournament and you had a chance to come, I pity you. I pity the fool that don't play Hawk Hollow every chance he/she gets.
I want to be at every tournament held there from now until the cows come home...wait...let me rephrase that one. from now until the cows jump over the moon...wait...wrong nursery rhyme...from now until I stop eating cow...yeah, that's it.

they are called john's potatoes because i could not get enough of them as a kid (more than ice cream, cookies, etc)
12 med potatoes
1 pt sour cream
1/2 stick butter
1 cup chopped ham (preferably country ham)
1 cup grated sharp cheddar
salt and pepper
Peel and cook potatoes as for mashed potatoes.
Drain.
Beat with mixer until smooth.
Add sour cream and butter.
Beat.
If too thick add a little milk.
Add ham and cheese, reserving enough cheese to sprinkle on top.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Place in greased baking dish.
Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
Warm in 400 degree oven until hot.
Serves 12.
My mom also says you can use instant mashed potatoes and skip the first couple of steps.
imo country ham is the key- this may be more difficult to find for the yankees out there. ;)

The team names are messed up but whatever. The format as I understand it is 'nightmare' doubles. It's best shot each hole both rounds, but the worse score per hole is the one that counts, so there is in essence 1 round played for the day.
For example if Bard/Sjur shoot on the first 5 holes, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6 round 1, and 2, 2, 2, 2, 2 round two, the only scores that will count are the worst ones, ie 3-3-4-5-6. Anyway the point is, bard/sjur finished 1 out of the win but didn't cash, due to lots of ties and playoffs and junk.

Hey all,
I am interested in rounding up used/unused discs to introduce people to disc golf. I am starting to work towards creating disc golf intramural clubs at George Mason university as well as James Madison University. I can collect your generous donation at any tournament that I attend.
I would like to collect year round in order to create a central pile of discs. This stockpile of discs will be available to clubs or individuals running disc golf clinics in VA.
My first pick up will be at Sherando this weekend.

Thanks for everything, I had a blast on a stupendous fall day, woo hooo!!!!!!
Helps when you cash too, as I played two good rounds , 57, 61 to get a well earned second in grandmasters to Tom Garber. Vince won it all, with youn virginian's getting second and third, with Pat Pitts taking forth. In masters, hysell took it over dean, with hawk finishing just out of cash :D
I took some pics and will have them up on sharkysshots.com tomorrow early. Thanks again, easy drive too, 1:50 either way from laurel, md.
Lots of good am action too, with around 70 players, dave did a great job and had lot's of good help.

I have now DFL'ed in my first 2 Pro tournaments. That is ok! Upsetting but OK. I do love Sherando's layout and will be back next year to CASH!!!!! Just getting my feet wet here at the end of the season. Looking and seeing what needs work in order to keep up. Sherando taught me alot the second round; so now I will be better prepared next time around.
Thanks Dave it was a fun event!!!
With the turn out that we had maybe this needs to be added to the ODDS events (I am sure I will get shot down for this being that the spring event is already a part of ODDS)
Chris Hysell
Nov 06 2005, 11:03 AM
Jimmy, perhaps when you start running the ODDS series you can put any event you want on the schedule. Typically the series hasn't doubled up on venues. Of course then the price of the event will go up and you won't attend just like in the spring. Which event would you like taken off of the ODDS schedule to make room?

TENTATIVE ODDS schedule for 2006:

Sherando Spring Breakout
Virginia Open
Battlefield Open
Duck Golf
Blue Ridge Open
Bayville Bash
West Virginia Open
Mountain Jam
Hawk Hollow Open
Newport News Fall Colors
Virginia Match Play Championships (players will have to qualify for this through ODDS events or be nominated by their local club to participate)

I like what you have! I also like the qualify for the match play event. How about makeing it a even 12 events with the Shag. I really like Landon's course. It does seem hard to get a large field at the Shag; but it is a course everyone in VA should play. Landon's imaganation, that he put into his course, is pretty cool!

Beware, tis' the season of The Tick
Here on the east coast there has been enough rain to help with the Tick population.
Right now & in the spring is when they will be thick.
Check for ticks. The sooner you find them, the better off you are.
(I found one crawling on me when I got home from Sherando )

Nov 06 2005, 04:14 PM
Same old argument from me. Either eliminate all non-Virginia events or start adding more. Seneca, Crosstown, Kingsport, Sneaky Pete. Why aren't they part of the series?

qualifying for va match play will (basically) work as follows:
at each ODDS event the Virginian shooting the low pro score and low am score will each qualify.
each va club will also be able to send one pro and one am.
no one is qualified yet- it is not until next year.

The 30th Annual VA states overall tournament will be held on April 7th, 8th, and 9th.
The main tournament is on the 8th and 9th which includes golf, mta, distance, and freestyle.
On the 7th, there is a separate disc golf tournament (carl's open) and a DDC tournament.
If you have ever been to this event, you know how great it is. If you haven't been, you need to come out. The atmosphere here is like no other.
Officially only 5 months away. This is when I start to get excited about it. Plan ahead. Don't miss this one.
Not many events have been going on for 30 years. They must be doing something right. This will be my 13th.

Nov 10 2005, 08:07 PM
There will be the regular OBs which are 1s fence, 9s fence, 18s fence, and all black top which come into play on 12 and 17. There will be a circle around 10s basket with a fair circle 3 putt if you fail to make the circle. The new OBs will be the gravel road across the middle of 2 and a 15 foot wide ob down the left side of 2 that comes into play on 9 aswell. Hole 6's ditch under the bridge(comes into play down the left side of 5 also) will be strung around 30 foot wide. and that about does it.

Nov 10 2005, 08:36 PM

Nov 11 2005, 07:21 AM
My only gripe is that when was this announced???? It should have been announced at the spring event at lease!!!!! Now all club members and locals will have an advantage; because they have had the op to play with the new OB"S for months. Is this going to be the normal layout from now on???? Is it set up that way now???? Maybe some can get there today and try to play the new OBs. I will not be one of them.
cbaines
Nov 11 2005, 01:28 PM
actually most of those O.B.'s had been around for every tournament except for: the creeks lines, gravel roads, and the island around 10 was brought back. the main question is are the gravel roads comming into play on the reds and golds? because then that may be a little bit uncalled for.
Snapshot25999
Nov 11 2005, 08:11 PM
ok we just strung the obs tonight.
Final OBs
no gravel roads ob
there is a string between 9 and 2 over the string is ob
10 has a 50 foot circle for whites and reds.
blacktop is ob for 12 and 17
17 also has a 25 foot ob ditch 75 foot short of the basket(for whites reds and golds)
and the fences on 1 9 and 18.
only things new are between 9 and 2 and 17 ditch
Snapshot25999
Nov 11 2005, 08:42 PM
sorry one more thing there will be no obs for the gold round

Nov 11 2005, 10:04 PM

The Piedmont Disc Golf Club proudly annouces the Blue Ridge Area Winter League! This is a series of eight disc golf tournaments that showcase the best courses in our area. Last year the BRAWL played at Elk Creek in Appomattox, Peaks View Park in Lynchburg, Fishburn Park in Roanoke, Golden Hill in Christiansburg, and Timber Ridge, a private course near Bedford. This year we proudly add Walnut Creek in Charlottesville and Greene County in Stanardsville.
The BRAWL has three divisions this year, Open, Am, and Am ladies. $10 and $5 to enter, with 20% of each entry fee going to the BRAWL. (Last year, Christiansburg's club donated the equivalent of the 20% instead of taking it out of everyone's entry at Fishburn and Golden Hills.) We also loffer a two dollar Ace Pool that goes to the BRAWL if unclaimed.
Each separate tournament pays out like a regular tournament. At each tournament registration ends at 9:30, with a brief players meeting following with tee time at 10:00 sharp!
Additionally, a player receives one point for each player they beat within their division plus bonus points (1st-7, 2nd-4, 3rd-3, 4th-2, 5th-1.) The top points winner in each division gets a trophy, the top four am men gets free membership into the PDGC, and the top four Open points winners gets to play in the lucrative skins match at Timber Ridge immediately following the conclusion of the final tournament.
Here is the schedule
10-Dec Timber Ridge, Bedford
17-Dec Greene County Park, Stanardsville
24-Dec
31-Dec Peaks View Park, Lynchburg
7-Jan Fishburn, Roanoke
14-Jan Walnut Creek Park, Charlottesville

You gotta love that Hawk, that guy needs to run for commissoner of this sport.
"Shanksgiving" at Timer Ridge was a blast today, there was roughly 25-30 golfers in attendance, and good times were had by all, even though the light rain in round 2 made for some wet shoes. Hats off to Vince for having such a cool course within 1 hour of my house.

Thanks to everyone that showed up for Shanksgiving. We gave away a lot of discs and prizes thanks to Chris Hysell and those others who were nice enough to donate. We paid out over 66% of the Am field and all of the ladies. The Ace/Eagle pool was not hit so $30 goes to the BRAWL series.
Pros playes the yellow and blue tees, while ams play the yellow tees first round. Ladies played red tees both rounds.
Congrats to Frank Gonzalez who won the Open division, Aaron Saft who won the Amateur division and Sara Stokes who won the Ladies Am division!

The Piedmont Disc Golf Club proudly annouces the Blue Ridge Area Winter League! This is a series of eight disc golf tournaments that showcase the best courses in our area. Last year the BRAWL played at Elk Creek in Appomattox, Peaks View Park in Lynchburg, Fishburn Park in Roanoke, Golden Hills in Christiansburg, and Timber Ridge, a private course near Bedford. This year we proudly add Walnut Creek Park in Charlottesville and Greene County Park in Stanardsville.
The BRAWL has three divisions this year, Open, Am, and Am ladies. $10 and $5 to enter, with 20% of each entry fee going to the BRAWL. We also offer a two dollar Ace Pool that goes to the BRAWL if unclaimed.
Each two-round tournament pays out like a regular tournament.

Will Baines play Adv (his rating say he should!!!) or Intermediate!!!!!!?????

the question is...is it 2006 yet?
all in due time my friend, all in due time. acctually my rating is not above the intermediate ranking, but don't worry i plan on moving up next year. this is probably the last tournament that i will play intermediate, i am just looking for that big W, and i will not feel my time spent was all for nothing. however, i have not played this course before and i feel i will end up middle of the pack as usual, and for this; is why i have stayed back.
