I think everyone who was there was able to unwind from the days actives. Nice laided back time. I would also like to thank the people who came from out of town. The Boyces abd Billy Bob and his better half to name a few! Great event and looking forward to next year.

i spoke with dave some time ago about the sherando event and he was indefinite- i assume it ain't happening since it was scheduled for next weekend.

there has been some interest from the nova club on picking up the ball for pohick so i'm guessing that will happen.

Just trying to chat this up a bit. Two weeks from Saturday. Two courses this year so no added holes and plenty of space.

The amenities at New Quarter Park will outclass anything you've ever seen in Virginia, so come on out for a great disc golf experience.

I agree with John. New Quarter is on a beautiful parcel of land which provides for a fantastic disc golf course. But HH is on an even nicer piece of land and is a more challenging design. Nonetheless, the tee signs, concrete tee pads, scorecard with map, and all the great food within 5 minutes of the course, make the New Quarter experience quite pleasant.

That's just the somewhat humble opinion of the chief designer/builder. :D

ok mike.....if NQ also has cows roaming on it i am so there next year :D

remember i stay with john so i have good food within 5 minutes anyways :D

although concrete tees would be sweet at the hollow!!
i'll help mix and pour them if they ever go in

once i've seen a course,(if it doesn't change)i don't need tee signs, i can tell you what hole is where already

i will definately have to check out NQ in the future!!

thanks mike!

ps. to hysell:
i would love to have the time to travel and just play disc golf courses but until someone just gives me millions in cash, it ain't gonna happen, so i just keep going to places i love around the country playing tournaments every year which is still better than nothing!!!

Well, we don't have cows out there, but we do have deer, hawks, rabbits, a few king snakes, and some civil war earthworks. There are also probably some ghosts out there around the civil war stuff. The CIA also has a training facility across the creek and you can hear them when they play army with real guns and aircraft and bombs.

Timber Ridge is a nice course, and I'm very partial to Elk Creek in Appomattox. If you haven't played it, you should, although I wouldn't say either of those are better than HH.

IMHO average courses with a C-tier don't fill weeks before, and with a A-tier fairly close at a sweet course says something.

Hey all,
Sorry about the short notice, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity for Virginia to Participate in the Disc Golf Charity Marathon.

This is what I was able to throw together:

Disc Golf Charity Marathon at the Grange

Date: All of November 18
Starting Friday at midnight and ending Saturday at midnight
Registration will be available at the clubhouse throughout the whole day

The Sunnyside will be lit for play throughout the night.

$35 entry fee includes one round on the Darkside, one round on the Sunnyside, and a Disc Golf Charity Marathon players Package. There will be 4 divisions for this tournament: pro men, pro women, am men, and am women.

The way this tournament will work is that each player can play each side as many times as they wish for $5 per round. The first round on each side is included in the entry fee. The players best round from the Sunnyside and the best round from the Darkside will be used to determine their score for the tournament.

Half of the money from the round fees will be donated to the Lance Armstrong Foundation; the other half will go towards the prize pool for each division.

There will be an Iron Man award for the most rounds played during this tournament.

I will have plenty of players packages available for those of you who do not wish to play.

I'm sorry and ashamed and hope that it won't tarnish my image or deter folks from coming to the the Blue Ridge area, Timber Ridge, or any of the tournaments that I run.

Battle of the Blue Ridge Team Challenge
Timber Ridge South Disc Golf Course
Bedford, VA
November 26, 2006
Entry fee $15 per person
Tee time 9:30 am/Players meeting at 9:00am

Team format disc golf tournament. Teams comprised of five (or six) will compete against each other. Teams shall be comprised of four (or five) men and one lady. Teams that can not find a lady can enter with only five men. All team members will compete in a stroke play eighteen hole tournament in the morning round to determine the teams that continue to the playoffs. The top four teams will move on to the match play playoff. All men will play from the blue tees, all ladies will play from the red tees. Teams will be scored by total aggregate score. The best four scores out of four (or five) men plus the ladies score will be totaled for the aggregate. Member of each playoff team shall be seeded according to there score, and ties shall be broken by the Zadereky rule (reverse alphabetical order). Teams with six players must note that the man with the worst score will not compete in the playoffs. If the team has no lady, then the man with the lowest score will play the as the lady in match play, but play from the blue tees.

Example:
Seed 1 Seed 2 Seed 3 Seed 4 Lady Total
1 Team B Bobby 58 Bubba 59 Billy 60 Buck 63 Brit 62 302
2 Team D Dick 60 Dan B. 61 Dan A. 61 Don 63 (Doyle 68) Daisy 65 310
3 Team A Al 55 Abe 60 Art 62 Ant 65 Ashby 69 311
4 Team C Carter 59 Chris 60 Cal 66 Carl 68 (Cole 89) Carla 60 313
X Team M Mark 60 Mike 65 Marcus 66 Milo 69 Missy 65 325
X Team N Nick 61 Nigel 65 Nate 67 Nat 68 Ni 88 349

In this example Teams B, D, A, and C would make the playoffs and be seeded according to aggregate score. Team M and N would not make the playoffs. Team B would play Team C in the first semifinal.. Like seeds on each team will play each other in match play format for nine holes. Team D would play team A in the second semifinal. Since Team A has no lady then their worst scoring player (Ashby) will play the lady (Daisy) with the man playing from the blue tees while the lady plays from the red tees. Seeds will play a nine hole match with all ties being broken by sudden death playoff.

Winners of the two semifinals shall play in a nine hole match to determine the championship. These two teams shall be paid out with 100% of the entry fees. Top man, Master, Grandmaster and Lady shall be rewarded due to their morning score
************************************************** **********************
On Saturday, two separate separate tournaments will be held at Timber Ridge South. The first tees off at 10:00am and the second tees at 1:30. Three divisions will be offered. Men, Masters(+40), and Ladies. Entry fee is $5 for each tournaments. 33% payout.

Announcing the Blue Ridge Area Winter League 2007! This is a series of eight disc golf tournaments that showcase the best courses in our area. The BRAWL will be played at Elk Creek in Appomattox, Peaks View Park in Lynchburg, Fishburn Park in Roanoke, Golden Hills in Christiansburg, Timber Ridge, two private courses near Bedford, Walnut Creek in Charlottesville and Greene County in Stanardsville.

New to the BRAWL this year is the inclusion of Timber Ridge North course. The course is on the railroad side of the farm and will be proudly unveiled for the beginning of the BRAWL. Equally challenging unique as the South course (original course)!

The BRAWL has three divisions-- Open, Am, and Ladies. $10 and $5 to enter, with a portion of each entry fee going to the BRAWL final payout for each division. We also offer a two dollar Ace Pool that goes to the BRAWL finals if unclaimed.

Each separate tournament pays out like a regular tournament. At each tournament registration ends at 9:30, with a brief players meeting following with tee time at 10:00 sharp!

Additionally, a player receives one point for each player they beat within their division plus bonus points (1st-7, 2nd-4, 3rd-3, 4th-2, 5th-1.) The top points winner in each division gets their name on the BRAWL trophy, the top four am men get free membership into the Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club, and the top four Open points winners gets to play in the 12-hole lucrative skins match at Timber Ridge North immediately following the conclusion of the final tournament.

I just got an email for the folks at VA Wesleyan, and it seems they've picked the wrong weekend to have thier inaugural tournament. They have a 9 hole course with DisCatcher Pro baskets, Tee Signs...the whole works. But, they've picked November 11th as the 1st tourney! I told them local traffic will be slow due to the 9th Fall Colors at the News and New Quarter. It's just a single round non-sanctioned thing, but some local color would be nice...maybe they'll get in touch with some of the local clubs to compare dates in the future.

I sent the following e-mail to the list of addresses created by last year's Virginia Open. If you did not receive it but would like to receive future emails from The Grange, send me an email and I'll add you to the list.

---------------------------------------
Greetings from The Grange,

I hope this finds everyone doing well and getting anxious about the 2007 Virginia Open.

Preparations are well under way for the 2007 Virginia Open and there are several bits of information I would like to pass along;

First, we are changing the timing of the event so that it is played on Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. We hope that this will help everyone in their scheduling, especially for their trip home. Second, we are limiting the field to foursomes which means that there will only be 144 spots available (72 pro, 72 am). When online-registration opens you should sign-up as soon as possible as there are 36 less spots this coming year. I expect to have online-registration opened up immediately after the Thanksgiving monthly. Check www.grangediscgolf.com (http://www.grangediscgolf.com) for updates. And last but not least we have a new pricing scheme modeled after the West Virginia Open. Prior to May 1, 2007 the entry fees will be as follows:

Pro Men - $100
Pro Women - $60
Amateur Men - $60
Amateur Women - $40

(Men Only)- if you pay after April 2007 add $20.

If you have any questions or comments please e-mail me at blaw@grangediscgolf.com or join in a conversation on the PDGA's discussion board; Topic: PDGA Tournament Info, Thread: 2007 Virginia Open

I believe that if someone wants to become the TD for an unsanctioned doubles tournament and take on all of the responsibilities from registration to payout then the possibility of an unsanctioned doubles tournament exists. There are a couple of conditions; It will have to be held on the Friday before or Monday after the Virginia Open (Friday may be out if it conflicts with the "One and Done" at Hawk Hollow that usually takes place before the Open) and it will most likely have to be held completely at the Grange, although Loriella could be an option.

It's simply a matter of not wanting to be spread too thin that weekend. Last year "Doubles" was not given the proper attention it needed to be ran at the high standards we have set for ourselves in Virginia. Thankfully there were volunteers who stepped up and got it done but they did not get the support they should have. I think it would be better to not have doubles than have an event that causes more aggravation than fun.

144 or 180, I don't care because I WILL be one of the ones playing. Most likely will play the Hawk Hollow event too since it will be on my way up.
The Virginia Open is the best disc golf weekend any disc golfer could hope for, and I am for one glad to see it changed to a Saturday/Sunday format so folks like myself can have that Monday off to rest up for the upcoming work week (which one needs after spending the weekend at The Grange).
This past May I got home about 1:00am after being gone since Friday morning, had to unpack, then unwind from driving 3 hours, and finally fall asleep to get up 3 hours later to go and enter Office Cube Hell.
Well, needless to say that was a rough day, and I am glad that will not be the case next May.

I do like the Saturday / Sunday format. I do not care for the increase in fees and less players. Things went smoothly last year and the years past! I WILL get my entry in early!

Yes, things have gone smoothly in years past, but I know I hate playing in a group of five for a tournament. Takes too long.

Please don't forget to join us in Hanover PA @ Codorus for this
History making event. That's Saturday November 18th. Start time is
9:30AM SHARP. Please show up and be ready to support. We need all
the Pro big guns and plenty of AMmunition too.
A note for the AMs to please consider: Typically at our tournaments,
the AMs are 70% of the field. Please do the math. After a handful of
Pros "duke it out" for some of the top spots in this event and
balance out, the AMs will carry the event for the North or South and
win the State Flag. Also, please note that we are playing all 54
baskets from the AM tees. We will be taking up to 108 players so
register early or pre-register with Jay Gobrecht at 740 Fairview
Drive, Hanover, PA 17331. There will only be 80 InnColor minis
distributed on a First come First serve basis. If you no how special
these InnColor discs are, you know they alone are worth coming to
the event for. Rumor has it there may be a Trophy Disc for the event
and it will be displayed at the Codorus Hilton year round with the
winner of the event NORTH or SOUTH displayed for all to see. Do not
miss this historical 1st annual event at Codorus. Hope to see you
thereCodorus

Those are good directions, it really easy to find the park and the course..............I believe that you will pass the park entrance for the "ball" golf course before you get to the entrance to the section of the park containing the disc golf course.

I'd prefer metal DGA Mach, Chainstar or Discatchers first. Don't have one of those? Bring your skillshot or other foldable...

Anyone who brings a basket will get a special treat from the REVOLUTION prize closet! Please confirm on the phone (877-281-3735), via email to dave@discgolfer.com or telepathically.

Here is the schedule

9-Dec Timber Ridge North, Bedford
16-Dec Greene County Park, Stanardsville
23-Dec
30-Dec Peaks View Park, Lynchburg
6-Jan Golden Hills, Christiansburg
13-Jan
20-Jan Fishburn Park, Roanoke
27-Jan Elk Creek, Appomattox
3-Feb
10-Feb Walnut Creek Park, Charlottesville
17-Feb Timber Ridge South/Finals
Please e-mail me with any questions at TimberRidgeDG@msn.com

It's been dry for a while and no rain expected the rest of this week, so conditions should will be favorable for great times to be had Saturday in Bedford. If you have never played Timber Ridge, drop all plans and be there on Saturday.

The BRAWL is back! Only two more days!

Timber Ridge North is shaping up! Rumors of a "quarter-mile hole" turned out to be bunk. Those who came here last Sunday--the course has changed slightly since then. Sorry. The course consists of a par-five, three par-fours and the rest are reachable. I played the new tees for the first time yesterday and shot a +4 (63). Two hanging baskets.

Please bring appropriate footwear and extra towels in case you encounter cow piles.

PLEASE--pack your lunch!!! Pass the word. Those who don't bring their lunch will be ridiculed!!! There won't be a port-a-john on the course--all participants are welcome to use the facilities at my house which will be available all

2006 Maymont Park Open Disc Golf Tournament
Sunday, December 10th $10 Entry Fee Register 8:30 to 9:30 - Tee Time 10 AM
Weather - Warm and Sunny

Hi ya'll. I know everyone is looking forward to another great tournament at beautiful Maymont Park. I'm Glen Todd, and I have offered to take over running it this year for Colleeen. She's done a great job in the past, as well as Phil before her, so I'll try to keep things running smoothly in the same format: At 10 AM we'll play the special 9 holes, then lunch, regroup for 18 hole round. Open and Womens Division, ribbons, Closest to Pin, 1st Place Buffalo Trophies, bug pins, a new Ace Pool, and lots of fun. I look forward to seeing everyone on tournament day and hope to have a big turnout.

Hole Change:
All of Maymont is underlain by a solid bedrock of Petersburg Granite, with exposed outcrops throughout the park. Yet nowhere is one of these rocks used as a target. Hole #7, the "closest to pin" hole down the hill, was a great hole to a bench for years, with a backdrop full of penalties. The bench was removed, and the target was moved to the only remaining tree after a few others blew over. There happens to be a fine example of exposed Petersburg Granite off to the right of where the old bench used to be. It is well guarded by small trees, and adds some spice to the hole. Since it is also still the CTP hole, playing to the rock has the added advantage of landing some of the "long arms" in the woods behind the Gazebo, giving some of us others a better chance at signing the coveted Pink Flamingo.

Tee Pad Change:
A new tee pad follows on the very next hole. From the rock it's just a few steps over to the walkway. Choose your spot anywhere along the walk and blast it straight back up the hill to a very aceable Gazebo. With this new tee pad on hole #8, the chance of an ace are so good there will be a high demand for an Ace Pool - so bring $11 instead of $10 when you show up for the Tournament.

Asphalt Penalty Adjustment:
Some folks out there would like to see all asphalt penalties completely eliminated. If I were to do that I would probably find myself on the bottom of the James River with a chunk of that granite tied to my feet. So I've come up with a compromise. All Asphalt with a Cobblestone Border is penalty. This will keep your favorite penalties intact, but some of those smaller sidewalks - mostly along holes 10 thru 15, have no cobblestone borders and will no longer be penalty. This will give those "penalty prone players" a break from the circles on their scorecard, if only for 5 or 6 holes. A complete list of rules and course maps will be available at the event. Hope to see you there.

Since Vince didn't want to do it (just kidding), here are the scores:

Ladies:
Donna 131
Alison 134
Charlene 140

Am Men:
Matt M. 121
Mike R 124
Dan H 125
Daniel E 126
Tyler 126
Josh T 131

Pro
Rusty 102 (course record first round 53, new course record second round 49)
Dwight 112
Vince 114
AV 116
Hunter 116

There were three ladies, 20 AMs, and 11 pros. Fun times were had by all

whorley
Dec 10 2006, 09:02 AM
Allison actually shot a 139 to beat Char by 1. We also had 37 competitors--12 open, 20 am, 3 ladies, 2 juniors

12 open players ties a BRAWL record and 37 total competitors breaks a BRAWL record which were previously set at Fishburn last year.

Thanks to all the competitors who helped make some history. Congrats to Rusty who dominated. Scores will be up shortly.

Gibbs run the offense last year = play-offs and a play-off win!!!!!
Snyder hires a so called offense expert = not much of a season!
Snyder needs to pay bills and get his ego out of the team. could someone please tell me what Gibbs job was this year??? Figure head!??? Someone to take the heat and handle the press??? Snyder is like my Orioles owner..... to much money and a complete dumb-#$*&$! on running a team.

what the skins need is a GM. they have blown ever since beathard left. they seem to have no real plan to get where they want to go, which is the telltale sign of a bad gm. renegotiating repeatedly to hide bad player moves is eventually going to bite us in the butt, and the people we sign just don't pan out more often than not. whoever said the skins were like the o's was right on!

Just to set the record straight...I am glad the cowboys can't beat the Saints. I don't need people thinking I like the Cowboys. I am already worried about getting Dallas e-mails after I ordered a Romo jersey for a gift ( even though I paid with my Redskin credit card).

I think we need to hire more coaches and a couple more "star" players (haha...)then maybe let the fans take turns calling the plays, especially in the red zone!

Bryan Law,
2007 Virginia Open Tournament Director

---------
From the November Newsletter....

Preparations are well under way for the 2007 Virginia Open and there are several bits of information I would like to pass along;

For $15 and an Advanced Masters field I think you're going to be the lucky boy and have the greatest show in disc at your place that Saturday.

Man, I wish I was 40.

i will order the champagne and the midgets in that case.

Excellent. I'll bring a call girl or two, and my opponent can be counted on to have food with him.

They were just messing with me because they thought I was retired. It was a tease to make me want to play again, starting over in advanced. Now that I have renewed my membership they will fix it back to where it should be.

Entry fee is now $40 per player rather than $30- this is to defray costs of a porto-potty and insurance. Payout will remain the same as in previous years.

Tee time will be 10:00 on Saturday and 9:00 on Sunday. Format will be the same as last year with divisional play followed by 2 teams from each division in playoffs. Tie breakers are head to head first followed by total individual wins, and thirdly holes remaining in individual wins. Course will be very similar to last year, any changes will be only to avoid excessive mud, manure, etc.

Teams will once again consist of the following:
4 Open
2 Masters (either of masters age or player rating beneath 975)
2 Advanced (or player rating beneath 955- see below*)
1 Lady

Ratings will be based on the late January update.

*Pro players reclassified as ams for the 2007 season will be subject to individual review. Players with ratings above 955 who have accepted cash in sanctioned events will NOT be allowed to play as amateurs in VTI regardless of reclassification with the PDGA.

Next year these restrictions will change, masters will have to be of masters age for 2008.

6 of the 8 male players must be from the geographic area/course represented by the team or be grandfathered in by virtue of competing in VTI 2005.

Grandfathered Player List (only includes players without a direct tie to the teams geographic region as those players from each given region are eligible either way)
Home: Ellis, Bonday, Mullins, Zadareky, Hysell
Spotsy: Lugo, Todd, Clements, Hasnain
Seneca: DeLeonardis
UniTTy: Williams, Sheffield, Reiser, Cahill, Yahn, Buono
Baltimore: Jernigan, Mela
NOVA: Sonderfan

If you have questions about players eligibility contact me.

I will also get team shirts done once again- cost will likely be roughly $6 per short sleeve t-shirt, $9 per long sleeve t-shirt, and $20 per sweatshirt They will bear your team name and an as yet undecided Hawk Hollow design. Deadline to order garments will be February 20.

Questions/further info: jbiscoe2@earthlink.net or 540-661-6685.

not entirely the product of whiny old guys, believe me whining gets you absolutely nowhere with the powers that be for this event (that being me). i don't make decisions of this sort without giving them some amount of thought. if i were trying to screw you guys i would've changed it this year but it is my belief that you should get the chance to defend under the same rules you won under. ...so don't get your panties in a bunch. :p

aren't you from raleigh? your illustrious captain chose "eastern nc" as your area. it is a non-issue anyway as you are eligible either way.

i'm thinking east of 95. your wilmington connection will work. what happened to their basketball team this year?- almost all the players back but now they suck.

watson- you may have a chance for 2008, i am considering some more changes.
