What has been done and where?

Well, I've done a lot of things in a lot of strange places...oh you mean at the course!

Mostly trimming back stuff that has grown in over the past three years. There were some trees where the tops had been bent over in bad storms and were cluttering the fairway, so they were removed. Particularly Holes #12 and #15. Also got rid of some eye-poking branches here and there. The wax myrtle hedge on Hole #13 was trimmed back so it will fill in - it was getting spindly and too tall.

The most noticeable upgrade is on hole 15. Taking one of the first trees out of the way. Still doesn't make it an easy deuce but the hole is a little more forgiving.

That tree on 15 had been a problem from the beginning. It had dead branches hanging down into the fairway that I simply could not reach with a pole saw. It would also have been a constant maintenance problem. And with the top broken off, it would never grow right again, so I took it out.

Thanks guys. Hole 15 was just about the only hole I didn't care for, yet, I dueced it twice last year.

Go figure.

Looking forward to coming back to this amazing course!

So Chris, should I interpret that as a "Yes, I'm playing" or "I'm not going but everyone else should be."

20 weekly's is a lot!
I should have mentioned my solo Giles work days in addition to the 3 TD stints. Carrying 50 to 70 pounds of equipment a half a mile to the work site (Uphill in the snow both ways) is wearing me down.

20 weeklies is a lot but i've been doing it for over ten years. Some weeks we were having 60 players or more.

Tim, I want to play but I think I will be one of those players who just shows up on a whim. I may try to rearrange things for tomorrow and get up there and see the course.

It also depends on whether someone has volunteered to run our weekly doubles on Saturday. I'm a little disappointed that the event only happens when Chad runs it. I feel that scheduled events should happen even if the organizer can't be there.

Anyway, I won't leave you hanging on this. If i'm coming i'll send you a message somehow or you'll just see my smiling face.

My fellow Americans, play in a Timber event and enjoy yourselves.

I'm back in town after a long visit to Big "D". Seems they don't take to Redskins fans too good down there. I'm thinking they just watched Brokeback Mountain too many times. I'm working on posting pre-reg list, may happen, maybe not we will see.

General info for Fall Colors:

ALL ADVANCED divisions sign in at New Quarter on Saturday

ALL OTHER Divisions sign up at Newport News on Saturday

If you aren't sure of your division  just report to Newport News and I'll send you where you need to be. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Weather on Saturday Highs near 70 low overnight @ 45, Sunday High near 68. It'll be cool in the AM so dress accordingly.

Clocks also go back 1 hour between SAT and SUN.

New Quarter Park is allowing all players to play for free on both Fridays prior to Fall Colors to warm up. So come on out.

Thats it for now but I will update everyone when I can.

Hope to see you out there!

In honor of the election and the fact that I broke my finger and have not cashed in the last two events, the Old Dominion Disc Series will be implementing some new policies. Therefore, the recent postings of the standings are subject to change (be positive, change is good). First of all, the new spreading of the strokes rule will allow all bogie strokes of the players placing in the middle to trickle up to those players finishing in the cash - thus leveling the playing field. Second, free pain relievers and any other necessary medications will be provided to the junior, masters, grand masters, and womens(single moms only) divisions - before and in between rounds. Finally, TDs will be required to insure that tournament participants receive free housing, food, and gas.

In 2009, to minimize the confusion created by the new policies, the O.D.D.S committee (from here on out referred to as BIG ODDS) and all the ODDS events will no longer keep score (its just not fair the same group of players repeatedly EARN all the winnings). In addition, to provide relief to the local tournament directors from all the additional expenses and responsibility, BIG ODDS will simply collect all tournament entry fees and distribute the money as they see fit at the awards ceremonies. Those who demonstrate allegiance to BIG ODDS will receive special consideration. Naturally, BIG ODDS will require a much larger staff and subsequently incur a significant financial burden. Therefore, payout percentages will decrease immensely in order to fund BIG ODDS. Please be patient during our time of progress we will all grow together as one.

NOTE: THE HOME and SPOTSY TEAMS WILL REMAIN EXEMPT FROM ALL AND FUTURE POLICY CHANGES

Please submit your entries for the 2009 BIG ODDS logo contest asap the use of Maple Leafs, Donkies, or the word France are preferred.
Finally! Virginia Disc golfers will have a series they can be proud ofITS TIME FOR CHANGE!!!!! :D

I'm cool with everything except the use of the word "France". The English are much more polite.

Note to everyone,
Dont try and play Sontag, Christiansburg, go to a meeting in Blacksburg and then play Dublin on the way home in one day.

Feel like Jello today and smelled horribly in my meeting.

Good times were had though.

Dudes and Dudettes-

Still need to secure a few more portable baskets for this weekend's Pohick Bay Winter Fling-a-Thing. If you can bring one for both days, that would be ideal!

Preferred targets are metal Mach or Discatcher-style targets. If you've got a portable MAch Lite or Ching basket, those will also do in a pinch!

Please let me know if you've got a target to bring to dave(at)discgolfer.com

Thanks,

-Dave

Congratulations to Biscoe for successfully rope-a-doping the field & making his obliged contribution $0, defeating Brandon Kilby (a kid who's young, does not suck, and plays every day) in a 3-hole playoff. When was your last Open victory, anyway, like 1998?

Hi everybody!!!

(Hi, Dr. Nick!!!)

The BRAWL rolls into Peaks View Park in Lynchburg tomorrow! Of course Peaks View has concrete tee pads, but I imagine the fairways in the woods will be muddy and slick due to the wet week we've had. I suggest wearing appropriate footwear and bringing extra towels.

Tomorrow we will, as usual, tee off at 9:30. Since rounds at Peaks View shouldn't take any longer than an hour, we will likely have a short break of 20 minutes between rounds since it won't be lunchtime yet. I'm sure the TD, Kevin Peterson, will agree--I'd like to see a brisk pace tomorrow!! We should be finishing up the tournament early tomorrow!

Remember there will be an ongoing raffle for a Discatcher Sport for $1 a ticket. $5 for 7 tickets. The basket will be drawn for at the last BRAWL!!! This raffle will help raise money and be split equally amongst all BRAWL divisions. Let's buy some raffle tickets!!! Spread the word.

There are also 2009 Piedmont Disc Golf Club memberships available for $5. Membership gets you a $1 discount on discs all year long at BRAWL, Golden Ticket events and other PDGC tournaments. If you live east of the Roanoke/Staunton River, a PDGC 2009 bag tag is free with membership. If you live west of the river, then you must pay an additional $5 to get a bag tag! We want you to join our club, but if you want to take our bag tags and leave town, then you'll have to pay for them. This money goes towards paying for the PiedmontDGC.org website which is the headquarters of disc golf in the western half of Virginia and for printing flyers to promote our events.

Please check out the website and let me know if you see any errors! Thanks

See you all soon!!!

I know its a little early, however:

Team Spotsy VTI Team Tryouts will be held on Sunday 22 February at 10 AM at Hawk Hollow. We will play all 27 holes, more than likely split it up (play 15 holes, break, play 12 or play 12 holes, break, play 15 holes)

Requirements for tryouts:

Member of Spotsylvania Disc Golf Club (Dues are $15 and must be paid prior to start of tryout round)
In order to raise money for the club there will be a $10 fee to participate in the tryout which also must be paid prior to start of tryout.
No payout upon completion of the tryout.

I am assuming rules for VTI 2009 will remain the same as they did last year. If that is the case:

At least 6 of the 8 male players must be from the Spotsylvania / Fredericksburg area. Additionally the masters division is age protected so at least 2 of the eight players must be at least 40 years of age on or before 31 December 2009. (So this means if there are not at least two players of masters age that qualify in the top 8 positions, then the top two masters players regardless of how they finish on the day of the tryout will be on the team.)

The following players are "grandfathered" as previous members of team Spotsy: Lugo, Todd, Clements, Hasnain. "Grandfathered" players means that if they decide to tryout for the team, then they are considered a local player, it does not mean that they are on the team - they still would have to compete and win a spot on the team.

I do not know what the VTI fees will be. Last year it was $40 per person to compete in the VTI. Additionally, team shirts will be purchased. Last year the costs were $6 per short sleeve t-shirt, $9 per long sleeve t-shirt, and $20 per sweatshirt. Please expect to pay for shirts upon completion of tryout. If you have any ideas about shirt design or color let me know.

If you have any questions please contact me:

grange monthly on 6/27 about an hour south of d.c.- always well attended (i think they averaged 60 something last year) and a chance to play 2 good courses plus tiki.

pdga event 7/5 at burke lake in fairfax but you'll probably be gone by then.

Just another tidbit for everyone headed out to NQ on the weekend..

The York County Sheriff's Department is taking GREAT delight in ticketing speeders leading into the park. After the turn onto Lakeshead Drive the speed limit is 40MPH, just after the I-64 overpass the speed limit drops to 25MPH. No less than 4 disc golfers have been ticketed and 1 of them was issued a reckless driving ticket.
This in itself is annoying but now the the "Protectors of the Public Trust " are noticing Disc Golfers in particular. While writing out the invitation to Traffic Court the deputy was heard asking, "What, are you late for your Disc Golf game?" I kinda think this guy is hunting a baited field. Are the Mountain bikers being harassed as well? I don't know. But please let's not give the these guys any more business. They have a job to do but they don't need to be so anal about it. So everyone pay attention and be safe...Big brother is watching... :(

DEFINITELY be careful and diligent - watch your speed and the signs.

However, I have recently learned that non-golfers have been pulled over as well. If we get the word out and the trap no longer produces results, then they will go away and hopefully fight real crime.

The bottom line is - OBSERVE THE SPEED LIMIT - all the time whether they are there or not!!!

Thanks Scott I'm glad you enjoyed the course. The Ice Bowl is always my favorite event. Thanks to all 74 Players (37 teams) that came out and supported our 12th Annual Ice Bowl. We raised 1100 Lbs. of food and $1000 for the Food Closet. Special Thanks to Chad Jinks at Farm Fresh here in Williamsburg for donating about 500 Lbs. and to Mook "D" and Ziller for nearly 200 Lbs. more. Lots of prizes given away and a Color TV. (Way to go PK!) There are lots of good pictures on the NNDGC Yahoo page so everyone check that out. Thanks to the Keirn Fam for all the great shots. Hope to see most of you again for the Super Dub's this Saturday. Am's start at Loriella and Open at Pratt. Should be a great time!

Jan 26 2009, 02:16 PM
To access the Ice Bowl pics you need to sign onto Yahoo groups, if you don't have a Yahoo account you will need to open one. Then just search groups for NNDGC and once logged in you can view pics and calender of events for the year. Pretty easy but a little bit of a pain.

Ams: three way tie after 2 rounds. "Whatever" won on the third playoff hole, Team Bayville 2d, Flyed Rice 3rd. Team "Whatever" was Kilby and French.

Pros: I heard there was a three way tie for first and a three way tie for 4th. I think the Bayvillians won again? Will have to defer to Bob for final outcome.

Hey everyone,

If you are looking for something to do this Sunday, NNDGC is hosting our monthly at New Quarter Park. Registration starts around 9:30 and we should be teeing off around 10 AM. $15 entry and $1 ace pot. Weather now looks to be in the lower 60s and clear. Looks like a good day for golf in Williamsburg!

If the new "Stimulus" packaged is approved, we all need to plan a trip to Austin, Texas. Apparently, they are requesting $866,000.00 for a 36 hole disc golf course. I hope there is some other stuff with it, but it was probably the most ridiculous thing national news could run with. Nevertheless, that could make two awesome courses. New Quarter only cost about $35,000.00 plus some very appreciated time from volunteers. Personally, I would rather see my tax money spent on disc golf courses than some of the other pork spending of the gov't.

Speaking of stimulus....

I plan on getting out to Hole #9 at New Quarter this Saturday to cut up the last of the large logs on the right hand side of the fairway. The County does not need the firewood, so if anyone wants to take home some logs to split, come on out.

I'll make a point of being there by 9AM. If you don't need firewood, I still need some help moving the logs out of the way once cut.

Thanks to all in advance

Amen to that. I love playing Loriella in the wind, and I'll be out there Sunday. It helps mitigate the fact that my drives/upshots are better than my putts, since in enough wind, no one makes putts more than 15-20' out... :D

Sherando Results are up....

Thanks to everyone who came out to play...I hope you had a great time.

A few notes:

The TD helpers are my nephews Conner and Kellen (2 cool dudes).

Hunter - ALSO won the CTP for the BASKET.

Jerry Mudd - ACED HOLE #1 - TWICE! Both during warm-ups - First on #1 short then on #1 long - 2 Aces, but Walt Winnington won Ace-Pot of $104 with ace on hole #12.

Sherando was wind-less for 90% of the day.

Someone almost threw their upshot on hole Y into the back of my open wagon - missed by maybe 5 feet.

See you all on the course,
Brandon

Hey there Disc Golf Fans-
Looks like a great weekend in The Old Dominion. We have back to back "B" Tier events to welcome in the Spring season. Most likely all players will report to NN on Sunday and then the Open and Advanced divisions will go to NQ for the day, all others at NN. This format is subject to change but with the info now available, this seems to be the way to go. I hate fivesomes. Please come out and enjoy the fine weather with us. If you have any questions I will be around at Bayville or just give me a call. Be safe and have a great trip.

Scores are up!

Thanks to all the players for all their support and congrats to all our winners. Highlights of the tourney include:

Don Clark's 1st event as TD at Bayville is a big success. With the help of Mook D and Chris Wheeler and the rest of the crew Bayville hosted 63 players for the first half of the Killer"B"'s. A pretty nice Ace on hole 10 in a windy day topped the round. Looks like the Bash is most definately a GO! On Sunday Rick Tortone aced # 14 at NQ. The 12th Annual Spring Pro/Am drew another 80 players that played both NQ and NN. Oh yeah.. Brian Skinner just smoked the field and the course at NQ shooting a 44 from the shorts and 48 from the longs. WOW! Back to back 1000 rated rounds for sure. A new course record as well. Amazing.....

Killer "Bees" Overall Champion by division:

Open- Chris Mangus
Masters- Dr. Rocket
Adv.- Carl Jones
Adv. Master- Steve Steele
Int.- Stuart Krall
Int. Women- Sylvia Edwards
Rec.- Aaron Prentis? (excuse the spelling)

Hope you can all come back next year.

Thanks again!

So many have tried to break 50 at NQ Blue tees. Schack, Haney, Liddell have all come close, but Skinner shatters it by carding a 48. I think that will stand for a while.

I would love to see the card from that round.

As far as the out of bounds thing. The tournament director needs to make the rules clear. There rule was stated as surrounded by asphult. not surrounded or/and beyond!

Chris Hysell
Apr 09 2009, 10:06 AM
It's common sense. I guess he needs to explain stance and footing also. If he doesn't then you are allowed to play from wherever you think is okay.

Is there going to be more than 4 pros this time because i wont be there if there are only 4 of us.So tired of the tournaments down here in south east VA.Seems like nobody comes down here but all of us always travel to other VA tournys.....

Congrats to all the winners.

We had a great turnout and beautiful weather. This tourney is only gonna get bigger and better.

Maybe with some luck, we too will get some more pros to show up.

Masters is growing...open is slowing.

Derek Britt is my new hero. First loriella, now this! Congrats to all the winners! Just so you know, i still cashed, ask randy, he owes me $50 from the MAWO. i have no idea why nobody is going to the mid atlantic. bryan park is a great course and the mecca is near!! i would definitely have been there if my main goals this year weren't the vibram open and usdgc. i will do my part to get drag pros down there once so they will want to come back, but with as many advanced and intermediate players that signed up, theres not much room for a large open field anyway. maybe a am/pro split is needed, or maybe a layout that starts at dorey or gillies. (maybe even temp gillies extended for pros, i know you've done it) ved said he played dorey the other day and it was very fun. either way, start at one of those "day 1" and finish at bryan day 2. with final 9 for the open players. the only problem will be the ams having to drive from dorey/gillies to catch the finals/payout. if they play the regular layout, however, it may be perfect timing as it could be quicker than pros at bryan. maybe a 2 day would draw more people to drive for the weekend. maybe you guys dont have time to run this mad weekend ive thought up, but its just a thought, i know i would love to play something like that.

Does anyone know if there is a pre-reg list posted somewhere? Just like to see who's competing this year.

I have it from a very reliable source that the music for Saturday the 23rd will be the best ever.
