Skinner won Open. Some guy from Phillie named Nick was 2nd and Naved was 3rd but turned down the cash. There were 33 open players and some of the cash spots were taken by new pros.

Glenry won masters and Kristen won Open women. She would have cashed in Open men and she also beat me.

There were about 60 players each day.

Just wanted to add some details that the course directory doesn't allow me to include.

The park is not open to vehicles during the week until May (not sure of date). The park will be open on weekends beginning April 1. You can always park at the gate and walk in, but it's about a half mile from the gate to the first tee.

The baskets are in and the course is playable, but it is not yet finished. The next priority is concrete tee pads. I suspect they will be done by early summer. Until then, I have marked the tees with flags. Blue (long) tees have blue and green flags. The white (short) tees have only green flags. White tee positions are usually directly in line with and in front of the blue tee positions, with only a few exceptions. There is a directional arrow at the bottom of each basket pointing to the next teeing area.

Until the concrete tees are installed, there will be no greens fees. After that, it will be $3 per day and $20 for an annual pass.

After the concrete tees, signs, benches, and trash cans will be installed. My wife is working on a ball-golf style score card that will have individual maps of each hole across the top of the card as well as an overall map on the back. The score card should be ready by April 1.

I will be out there April 1 and April 22 to help guide people around the course. If you would like to meet up with me for a tour, feel free to PM me and I will try and accommodate you.

This course was designed by the same team that brought you Walnut Creek; Myself, Mike Bonday, and John Biscoe. If you like Walnut Creek, you're going to love this course.

Virginia States 30th Annual Frisbee Tournament:

April 8th, 9th...(and on April 7th there is a DDC event as well)

For the Special 30th annual event, 2 new events have been added this year for the overall points standings (DDC and Accuracy)...

You may participate in 0 or all 6 events or somewhere in between. But the only thing you have to do is show up. This is not the tournament to miss. You can play a regular disc golf tournament any weekend...This is one of those once a year events like no other.

Hopefully see everyone out there.

I encourage any disc fan to attend the 30th annual! An "average" VA States attracts some of the best overall frisbee players and freestylers in the world, and where else can you get $.50 beers? World distance records have been broken in the not too distance past ....Also, the 30th Annual will see the re-birth of the players party, so you too can witness the "Super Pro Chug" batttle as well. Where else can you see worldclass freestyle and worldclass chugging (3 full beers fill one 165 gram lid).... Also, the least amount of women players I've seen in my 15 years at VA States was 6 women ... typically closer to 10. How many PDGA's can say that? cheers~

Big Daddy will definitely be there.

Laszlo's Weenie World will DEFINITELY be there (since 1979).

Laszlo Pastique will definitely be there, cavorting nakedly throught the woods.

2 new holes will definitely be there, as I just installed the baskets on Sunday.

My daughter, Miranda, will definitely break the girls 2 & under world distance record with her MAD thumber.

DDC & Accuracy will definitely be "points" events this year, along with golf, distance, MTA, & freestyle. (Does anybody REALLY care about keeping score at VA States?)

With a deep bow to tradition, bevelled-edge discs will definitely be banned for MTA.

Vegan Ray will definitely be there. (Will Nick . . .?)

Rickg
Mar 29 2006, 11:36 AM
Where are the two new holes at Pratt? Are they the substitutes for numbers 1 & 2?

veganray
Mar 29 2006, 11:44 AM
Alternate #2a & #3a. Play #1, then take a right down the nature trail instead of a left to #2 tee. #2a runs parallel to River Road under the power lines with the basket tucked into the woods on the right (approx. 330 ft.). Then walk slightly back up the hill to #3a tee (you can see the easily tee from #2a basket). #3a is approx. 385 ft. uphill to a right pin position that puts you within 120 feet or so to the tee for #4.

These holes will be a permanent part of the course (original 2 & 3 will stay, as well), and will come in quite handy when soccer season hits hard & the "parking area" (aka 2nd fairway) is a madhouse.

the facts are:
The sale of public land is permanent!
Faced with decreased tax revenue the Forest Service does not have enough money to maintain the national forests or the school system. In order to pay for rural schools the administration has proposed the sale of 300,000 acres of national forest. Parcels of your favorite forests may be for sale!!!! It is a bad idea to sell our forests for temporary money problems.

Peace girl...this is VA States we are talking about...the PDGA has absolutely nothing to do with this tournment...it is an overall frisbee skills event...Most of the allure of VA States is the loose knit way they run things. There is no website for them if you are not already on their mailing list you won't get anything. It all word of mouth and has been for 30 years now.

I'll help some people out...Here is some info. for VA States that people who didn't receive the flyer might find useful:

$30 to pre-register for the tournament. This allows you to play in 1 or all 6 events or somewhere in between. $36 the day of the tournament.

$65 for the lost weekend package. For those who are not in the know, the lost weekend package gets you entry into the tournament and an all-you-can eat and drink pass for lazlo's for all tournament days...It also usually gives you other stuff like a mini, maybe a frisbee, and other little stuff. Speaking from experience, the lost weekend is the way to go.

If you are going to pre-register, include the following information:

Name, Address, and shirt size (M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL)

You can mail your entry and info. to:

MWFC
914 Monument Ave.
Fredericksburg, VA 22401

If you have any questions, you can email Eric at [email protected]

Oh yeah, if you want to buy a golf disc with a va states stamp, you can include $8 per the amount of discs you want with your registration. You can pick out the exact disc(s) when you get there. They normally have a pretty good selection of Innova discs available.

Alright, I'm tired of typing.

Hopefully I helped someone.

See everyone in about a week.

Thanks to all who played GUTS at the party...we had three hours of high speed catch...and it was fun...it also looked like it was fun to watch judging form the crowd we had behind the glass!

It was more thunder and lightning than rain today in SW Virginia. I beleive Timber Ridge received no more then 0.5 of an inch of rain today and there is only a slight chance of precipitation overnight. The forecast for tomorrow is sunny and 80. The course should be playing just fine.

I got to play New Quarter last weekend. It's going to be a good course when it gets broken in.

My only complaint is the tee pads. Why weren't they recessed in the ground? Someone may snap an ankle.

august
May 09 2006, 08:54 AM
They weren't recessed because I did not want to have drainage problems. The pads will be dressed with dirt, gravel, mulch, or some combination thereof, so that they will have shoulders, like a road. This way, they will be above any standing water on the ground and won't get silted over, such as you see at Bayville or Newport News on some pads.

Chris Hysell
May 09 2006, 09:58 AM
I'd still rather move onto or off of a tee pad that is flush instead of having to step up to or down off of an elevated tee. Now that I have this problem ankle it's a big concern.

I liked the course. Some of the holes are really good. We need more courses that rely on shot placement.

It's all opinion anyway. No offense there Mike.

BTW, leave the tees in the woods natural.

Chris Hysell
May 09 2006, 03:30 PM
Vince, you should upload the scores to the Tour page.

May 09 2006, 10:20 PM
No offense taken. I know you are "good people". Personal preference is one of the last freedoms we have. W has taken away most of the others.

I dressed the existing concrete tees today at the front and back with mulch so that you don't have to step up or down like you had to this Saturday. I still think this will be better for drainage without being a detriment to play.

The tees will all be concrete when finished. I think it would be better to have consistency in this particular case. Besides, the woods tees would be horribly muddy after rain if I left them natural. However, the private course we talked about will be all natural tees.

I'm glad you like the shot placement aspect of the course. It's a bit boring when every hole is a possible two. Those are the roots of this sport, but the time has come for some variaton from that format.

The tee pads will be done soon so you can come back and play next time without the risk of hurting yourself........again :D

I called Mike. He said "The tornado trimmed up the course and it looks better than ever!"

Evidently he didn't get a whole lot of wind but it dumped more rain in a short period of time than he can ever remember. It filled the grassy area beside the garage to the point where it was running over the road. That hadn't happened before. I'm guessing that last night the basket on number 16 looked like the mast of a sunken ship.

Are there any tourneys in Northern VA between now and Am Worlds? I would like to hit at least one, I would have gone up to Pittsburg but I was volunteered to babysit a project this weekend at work.

Who's running this show? I owe them $60.
Has the ODDS run it's course?

We need excitement. We need an eye catcher.

I'd ask about points but I know Don is working on them. He probably has the same problem with getting official results.

Time to trim down the excess baggage of slack tds and let some new blood in.

I'm on a rant. BTW, I don't even play this game any more. I'm retired.

The Disc Golf Club of Northern Virginia has created a flyer for the tournament. web page (http://www.dgcnv.org/events/Duck_Golf_XXIV_Flyer_3.pdf)

I would put the prices for the divisions on there but I have not heard what they will be.

I will attach prices to the flyer on Monday whether or not I hear from the TD. We have made the proper arrangements with the park to run the tournament, so it is going to happen.

Please email me to preregister to help avoid a complete debacle.

Thanks,

Only one Open player(Ian) showed up so Naved and Kelly played open. Ian won.

We played about 10 holes of the second round in some strong thunderstorms. Eventually we stopped for lightning which would flash every 15 or 20 minutes. After waiting for about an hour Brandon called an end to the tournament. Only the first round counted. In divisions where the scores were close there was some minor grumbling but I think Brandon did the right thing. I imagine if we would have continued there may have been some trouble with flash flooding down by the creek.

Ronnie, you didn't return my call.

Sorry dude, I would have played but I woke up exhausted from Paw Paw at 5:30am Sunday morning and it was raining here in Fairfax so I decided to sleep in instead.

I have to ask, what did you think of paw paw? The courses, the area, the people?
