Wooooohooooooo!!! The BRAWL concludes at Big Branch on Saturday. Big Branch is by far the most wide open and possibly most fun course on the BRAWL circuit. C'mon down if you've never played it. It will be in great shape!!!

The last BRAWL will be followed by the awards ceremony and BRAWL finals which will be followed by the prestigious BRAWL finals Skins Match for the top four Open players.

It should be a fun day. C'mon down! If you have a nice basket-bring it!!

been there done that- i used to subscribe to the idea that maximizing the number of people and maximizing the purse were my goals in running events. i have since come to believe that my goal in running events is to attempt to provide the best experience i can for those players conscientious enough to register in a timely fashion.

i personally hate playing in fivesomes, my back doesn't dig the constant stopping and starting- when the wvo was fivesomes i would start dreading the golf aspects of it about a week in advance.

Classic misconception. It really means more competition.

Why would you want "more" Jimmy? Ecoff is 8 more miles farther away than Dorey and you won't go there. I thought you didn't like "more".

Why will the directions be "round"? Isn't there a direct route?

Since I got booted from the home team because of injury it's possible that I could make an appearance.

BTW, I finished the Loriella Challenge.

The streak continues.

Amazing tourney -- the course in long-to-long is unbelievable. SSA of 62-63, depending on wind, which is amazing. Great job to those who have worked so hard on continuing to improve the course; I saw several pin positions and tees I haven't seen before and loved it. And it was especially amazing as a mental/physical challenge on Saturday in the wind. Thanks to Bob, John, Jeff, and everyone else who made the tournament and the course a reality.

The Loriella Challenge was a very well-run event -- thanks to everyone that helped. I know, I'm late -- better than never!

Loriella is a great course -- I really didn't know much about it heading into the event, it certainly is worth the trip if for no other reason than the course.

I know this is kind of late notice, but for those of you not going to the VTI this weekend, I hope you will consider coming out to New Quarter Park this Saturday night, March 15. Yes, Saturday NIGHT for the first ever glow golf tournament at New Quarter. This is intended as a fund raiser for the Spring Pro/Am Tournament next month.

Format will be random doubles in two divisions; Pro and Am. That way you don't end up with two pros against two ams. Tee time will be somewhere in the range of 8:30PM. I will be locking the gates about 20 minutes prior to that to keep the public out. One round only. Everyone will have to leave after that so I can lock up the park.

If we don't get enough people to have a tournament per se, we will still have a casual round of glow golf, especially since I am sponsoring the glow sticks.

John Roy is in charge of setting the fees and payout. I suspect he will post that on here soon.

Come on out and play glow golf with the owls and the Civil War ghosts!!!

Thanks for the interest John.

1 - Folks can come out as early as they like. At 7:30 or so, I will start making an assessment of how many are interested in playing and calling some shots. The park will be open the whole time until we complete our round. Parks has asked that we vacate by 11PM.

2 - Gathering can take place at the shelter directly across from the office where we usually gather for the Fall tournament. I will make sure I am out there at 7:30.

3 - My plan is to use the white (short) tees.

We will have some moonlight, but folks will probably need to bring some small light source for safety's sake.

I haven't heard from John Roy how much the fees will be.

Should be a great time. I have been wanting to do this for a while now!

don't know about doubles but the course should be set up as it will play- they only have one set of pin positions, short tees first round, long tees second.

Sherando has been tweeked' to make it more challenging...

.......there are 11 holes, for the second round, where pin positions change...not too dramatically, but does change shot selection....and 7 tees are changed for second round.

Scores range about 8-9 strokes harder for the long layout...

Brandon - Great tournament. My first time out to Sherando and I really enjoyed the course -- it is one of the most relaxed, enjoyable places I've played, and has some very memorable holes -- including several places I found myself 200-feet-deep into the rough on some errant throws. Look forward to playing it again sometime in warmer weather.

Huge props to Brandon as well for such a great job running the tournament even while sick -- he could barely talk through the awards, but soldiered on for the good of the tourney. Well done.

The local Parks & Rec. Dept. hosted the grand opening of the new course in the Rocky Mount/Franklin County area today, and their response to the arrival of the sport of disc golf has been top notch. They advertised the event themselves and had about 50-75 locals out who were new to the sport. Some of us experienced local and regional guys kinda showed everyone else the ropes a little bit, then turned them loose onto the course. We gathered up a big box of used discs for the newbies to grab and use, plus the County purchased a total of 100 star and champion discs with the course logo and gave everyone in attendence 1 new disc. Very cool of the local gov't if you ask me, oh, and they had pizza and drinks for evenyone in attendence too. Hopefully with this great new course, the good core group of locals we have now, and support like this from parks and rec., disc golf will take off in this county. I invite everyone who hasn't stopped by yet to come check out the course, directions are in the course direcetory.

The Mid-Atlantic Wide Open is a one day C-tier event

It is held a Bryan Park in Richmond Virginia

Bryan Park is the newest course in Richmond and is in a beautiful setting. Old growth public park with open fairways and tightly manicured greens. Huge roller potential and lots of holes that will except the biggest drives that anyone has.

There are a handful of easily reachable birdie holes, but the beauty of the course lays in the crushing long long holes.

It really is a must play and it will be good to see everyone there.

Nick tied the record of 51 from the blue tees.

Yea Mike that was some good shootn for sure its been a long time coming now if I can just keep it up ill be aight. Its wonders what a brand new putter can do.After I missed a 12 footer on the very first hole of the tourney,I said its time for a change and that new super soft OMEGA was not letting go of the chains when it did it feel into the basket from 60 feet and in.Now I hope I can remember what I did come May.....First B-teir win yahoo

Thanks for a good time newport.
Congratulations to Zilla for straight destructing (he would have gotten solo 2nd in Open) and of course congrats to the NOVA representative shooting shorts course record and 1 stroke off matching the longs record, Ian Liddell.
Seems to me theres more than just a few good pro golfers in Virginia these days. Times is a changin. Time to put VA on the map.

Thanks Melt. I just want to say thanks to John Roy & Mike and everyone else that helped out over the weekend. That was one of the most fun tournaments I've ever played. Having New Quarter all to ourselves, while being 62 degrees ALL day made for one hell of a good time, and rather stress free laid back tournament. I will definitely be back!

Hopefully next year the Killer Bee's will be on a different weekend than VA States, a lot of people missed out on a great time on both ends. Again, thanks for letting us play New Quarter! It's a beautiful course.

Also my first B-tier win! woohoo! Nice Zilla!

DGCNV presents: The Virginia Open AM Qualifier Shootout
Sunday May 4th at Loriella Park in Spotsylvania, VA

In the interest of mixing up formats a little bit, we are modeling this qualifier after the USDGC Monday Qualifier "Shootout" in Winthrop, SC. This is an amateur only event, you must be PDGA eligible to play Am.

Here's the lowdown:
Entry fee is $10 for the first round, $5 for all subsequent rounds
Up for grabs: One all-expense paid entry to the sold out Virginia Open!!!

Rounds start at 9am and last call for starting new rounds will be at 4pm. Between these two times, participants may play as many or as few rounds as they would like and are free to end a round at any time and restart for $5 per round.

Only the hottest single completed rounds of the day will be paid out and only the hot round of the day will receive the coveted spot in the Virginia Open. Already registered or dont plan on going? If you win, we will pick up your tab ($60) and sponsor you for the event or take home the cash and put it towards your next event.

This is a no regrets, no excuses, no layups tournament! Bad break, tournament roll...no biggie - drop your round, man up again, go BIG, and prove you have the goods to be the next VIRGINIA OPEN AM CHAMPION!

Proceeds from the tournament will be put towards Virginia Open sponsorship and Duck Golf.

other than andy, sheila, cannon and naved i doubt any players were lost due to the conflict- scheduling around va states has been problematic for years as they are not willing to move and in addition to that they won't keep their usual weekend if it happens to be easter. my crystal ball foresees more conflict in the future (for instance-next year everyone will want to move because easter is that weekend.).

Questions:

1. How do you want to course set up in regards to basket placement.

2. Playing from the whites, the reds, or a mix?

Everyone will be playing from the short tees to allow players to fully take advantage of the format (play a lot of rounds if they so desire) and to score some big under par numbers :)

As far as basket placement, I think whatever pins you guys have set up will be great, maybe a mix of long and short pins. I can't think of any holes/pins that aren't good :) The only requirement is that they don't shift after 9am so everyone plays the same course.

Thanks Jeff!!!

Most of the baskets right now are in short except 7, 9 12, 14. You will just need to let people know if they are playing the basket across the pond on 13. I may change up a few of the ones that are in short and change them to long (maybe 3, 10?) I may see you out there on Sunday afternoon.
