MD vs VA Ice Bowl Battle is this weekend!
We need VA representation bad - come on up
incentive: Chunk-d one of the nova members is an
award winning BBQist - travels nationally with a team and wins
BBQ matches - anyways he's making lunch for us on Sunday
Results are in VIRGINIA WINS!
Maryland took only a 35 point lead at Seneca - I say only
because 11 Virginians showed up and scored well in their respective
divisions - most notable AM1 where we took first and second
Then on Sunday (at Giles) Maryland only sent 5 players allowing
Team Virginia to storm back and take the WIN.
scores:
80 + 25 = 105 Total points for Maryland
45 + 81 = 126 Total points for Virginia
Bottom line
To MD Foodbank
$155 From Seneca Entry fees
$142 From donated winnings at both tournaments and extra donations
$142 matching
$439 Total to MD foodbank
To VA Foodbank
$110 from Giles Entry fees
$265 from combined pot
$375 to VA foodbank
$814 total raised for the foodbanks
gotta play to win!

First, Masters are afraid to play in a real man's division, now they make an entire tournament so that they can hide from Open players! ;)
Just kidding, sounds fun Biscoe! I'd like to go ahead and pre-register for EMCC in 2015, when all the current Masters go hide in Grandmasters.
I would recommend not playing Loriella and HH. Masters players are too old, weak and frail to play such demanding courses, and they might get lost. I hope EMCC is sponsored by the Belmont Rescue Squad, because they'll be busy that weekend!
Other sponsors you might consider are BenGay, Geritol, Alieve, Viagra and Kellogg's bran muffins.

Depends on if you split weekends again as The boss and the only other employee are both going to be gone week of 15th.
If it is 24th and Vegas is not having the Halloween for pros that weekend, I'll be there for sure!
If its on the week before, no deal - as family reunion and wedding for the other 2 trump my disc golf career. :(
I hope you'll still be able to host me for the Grange weekend either way, and I'll know in a few weeks what Vegas is doing for Halloween as they always have had the flyers for it at the GCC.

Just got back from Pohick.. Good News and Bad News!
The Good News is that playing Superclass on the original
course under these conditions is TOTALLY FUN!
It's 50 degrees and sunny with 1'+ snow everywhere!
and tomorrow will be the same!
Yobass is the MAN. all the tees are clear
The Bad News - it would be insane to try and play the
Super Pohick layout with regular plastic - we'll have to
try playing that format at a later date - maybe during
the summer between league series
But the Good totally out performs the Bad in this case.

I expect the course to still have patches of snow. Holes 5 & 12 may have more than "patches". Plan on the ground being wet, so prepare accordingly. I'll be at the course Friday for some last minute work so if there is a major change to the above I will post info.

At this time we have 12 of the 19 holes sponsored for tee signs at Loriella. We plan to start producing what has been sponsored so far. Please contact me if you or your disc golf club is interested in sponsoring a hole.
Chris Hysell - please let me know what E.D.G.E. stands for. I have to let Spotsy Parks and Recs know review the sponsor list and I am sure they will want to know what E.D.G.E. stands for.
Once again thank you sponsors - need 6 more to complete the course.

Why only 45 players..........I thought Timber Ridge was 18 holes ( that is only 2.5 players per hole) Has the course been reduced to 9 holes?
Limited field because of parking and logistics. The farm and driveway got a little tore up this winter. The course is the same. There's still some spots open for those interested.

19 Amateurs registered for Saturday (17 spots remain) All Ams recieve $7 in Bluemont Bux
14 old guys registered for Sunday (22 spots remain)
Guess the 41.85 SSA in the first round is keeping the Mens Pro Open players away. Round 2 SSA is 52.42 - Never realized moving the pins added 10 strokes to the average score. With such a small field on Sunday, I am considering doubling the final nine to a final 18 (time permitting) to get an official SSA for the BlueMontster. Since it is very unlikely that we will ever play a final 18 again, players will get 2 shots at the 9 hole TCR purse and bragging rights will be the only consolation for the 18 hole TCR.
Snail mail postmark deadline is today
PDGA Signup registration has been extended to Thu Eve 4/8/10
Pay Pal registration closes Thursday 4/8/10 at 11:59 PM. I will return any payments recieved after the deadline.

But the problem with that is that it begets LAZINESS. (which is already too prevalent in disc golfers)
If you have people look around the board at more than just Event threads, they may stumble onto RULES threads, or the Actual RULES themselves - which would keep the lazy golfers from doing anything besides posting or asking someone else a rules question - then getting the WRONG answer because they didn't want to look it up themselves because someone ALWAYS answers the question instead of SHOWING them where the answer is for them to look it up themselves.
YOU are a rules guy - how can you say that it is easier to just give someone the answer?
Does it seem like I dislike lazy golfers?

So it's that time of the year again. Getting ready for the third Mid-Atlantic Wide Open.
This again, should be a full tournament with registration filling well before the deadline. The last two years of this event have been a tremendous success so make sure you don't miss out this year.
Some Changes, because of the NT event held in Charlotte on the same day.
For the Open division there will be very few Open players as the majority of our regions top pros will be in NC. This said, I am combining the Open and Open Masters divisions to hopefully make a single large group of open players. Hence, there will not be a Open Masters division offered, although, there will be a Grand Masters division.
This said, there will be the following divisions available:
Open Mens
Mens Grand Masters,
Open Women
Advanced Men,
Advanced Masters,
Advanced Women
Intermediate Men

Mike - You can NEVER hit the wrong nerve with me my friend - I had just come back form playing in Houston where the thought of following what was written in the program or was a rule that should have been played certain ways was - lets just say - not always the way it was suppossed to be.
So I definately was a little touchier when someone I count on to be a helper in searching for answers just blurted it out. :)
And I'm glad that finally after years of nudging Chuck (and with the new website updates) we got him to put links to the rules and ratings stuff instead of answering the same questions everytime the ratings came out so people would actually have to look stuff up.
Your point about it not being the same as a rules thing is accurate, and I'll watch more what I say on the Virginia thread as Hysell (obviously stiill upset that I crushed him at the Memorial) is on the warpath for anything I post now. ;)

It's looking like i'm going to have to skip the MAWO this time around. I'm playing in the Mighty Gaw the Sunday after. mmmm, did it go in? That appears to be hole #8 at Bluemont. That was my 2nd shot from behind a tree with a roller. That was about 35-40ft from the basket. Ed Foster was about 10ft closer putting from birdie. I had a 1 stroke lead at that time. Mark Jackson was walking down the path behind me. I am his hero. It was a Discraft Chainstar basket. Of course I made it. Eddie missed.

It's been awhile.
You can play Sunnyside blind as most every hole is visible from the tee - just have to hit your lines and judge your distances - and with your experience and skill it should be easier to do.

Good luck to all the Blue Ridge golfers this week. I'll be rooting for you!
PS, come to Sontag in two months. It is the best course in VA that nobody knows about--as hard as HH or Loriella. Also Randolph Park in a couple of weeks run by Scott Faison. Also a really neat course with tight woods on the front and booming open shots on the back. Tell 'em Hysell!

It's over. Great weather, great people, not so great rounds.
Looking at recent history, not sure why you say "not so great rounds".
In open, all 4 players (small field, yes), shot better than the winning score for Open in either 2008 or 2009. In fact you have to go back to 2006 to find a better score than the 2010 Open winner. (and there were 2 scores in 2006 which were better than Derek's 2010 performance, and the 2nd was Hunter Todd playing in AM1 at the time)
Other divisions scores overall seemed slightly better than in the past (i shot 9 strokes better than i did in 2008, and was about the same relative to the field in both tournaments.
Great tournament, Hysell. It's a shame it wasn't better attended this year.

Oh, that kind of not so great rounds. Likewise, here.
Bizarre that the AM1 field mostly smoked the Masters field (top 4 in AM1 (9 person field) all finished ahead of the Masters winner (6 person field), especially since the courses were short and/or narrow (with the possible exception of Gillies longs).
In 2008, 7 of 15 masters beat the AM1 winner. In 2009, 4 of 11 beat the AM1 winner.

Wow! $75.00 for the E=MC2
$60.00 for Elk Creek
In back to back weekends.
The economic crunch is killing my tournament playing! What ever happened to the days of $50.00 to play Masters? Guess those days are gone too! May just have to flip a coin to decide.

No worries on the Classic Jimmy. If you pre-reg to take advantage of that discount, it's only $45 since you are a current member.

I agree about the $100.00 but almost $150.00? I don't make $60,000 per year or more! Guess I will just have to win my entry fee for the E=MC2 at Elk Creek! This sounds like a good plan!
