CCR Open

The 2012 CCR Open (August 10 - 12) came to a close with Mother Nature finally cooperating and providing sunshine and blue skies for a nice little Sunday in Mid-Michigan! The tournament registration was lower than expected due in part to the wicked weather hovering around the first 2 days but 130 brave souls withstood the elements and contributed to a fantastic event. The layout for the tournament included both courses at Burchfield in Holt and a new 24 hole layout at Grand Woods in Lansing.

USDGC Qualifiers - Hambrick Memorial

Qualifying for his 13th USDGC was a priority for Brad Schick this year, and after a 3rd place finish at the Brent Hambrick Memorial in his hometown of Columbus, OH, he won’t have to worry about traveling elsewhere to do it.

“I just want to be a part of it. I’m looking forward to it,” said Schick, (-18) who lives in nearby Westerville, OH.

The Chick Flick Disc Golf Celebration!

In 2007, some Portland-area lady golfers decided to start meeting casually on the course to learn from each other and play recreationally. These meetings grew to include an annual event designed to introduce the sport of disc golf to beginners, as well as give experienced women golfers a competition designed specifically for them. The Chick Flick Women’s Disc Golf Celebration is a C-tier event where ladies play two sanctioned rounds on Sunday, after clinics and a mixed-division practice round on Saturday.

NT Series Winners

This weekend at Maple Hill Farm the 2012 PDGA National Tour came to a close with the Vibram Open. Using her victory at the crowning event of the 2012 PDGA National Tour as a springboard Catrina Allen secured her first Women's PDGA National Tour Championship title while 2012 PDGA World Champion Paul McBeth took home the honors in the Men's division.

Vibram Winners

It was an exciting final day at the Vibram Open. The weather was splendid starting in the high 50’s and finishing in the 70’s with a light cloud cover. The Amateur players from the VibrAM tournament teed off first and then the NT side starting teeing off at 10:10am.

Vibram Day 3

Make the Cut, Get Paid! has been the Vibram Open motto since the beginning, and today was cut day at the 2012 Vibram Open with 83 men and 6 women returning to play the final round on Sunday all guaranteed part of a $50,000 payout.

The day started out both cold and wet with the temperatures in the mid 50’s and a steady rain falling that finally cleared past the Maple Hill course around 9:30. By midday it was a beautiful late summer New England day with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70s.

European Champions Crowned

Simon Lizotte of Germany is the 2012 European Disc Golf Champion. Lizotte overcame shakiness early on and held off a number of charges by Denmark’s Karl John Nybo during the final round as the two see sawed back and forth. In the end Lizotte played his game and came out on top posting a 61 (-5) for a -33 total and four throw victory over Nybo who carded a 60 (-6) and finished at -29 for the tournament.

Vibram Day 2

Day two at the 2012 Vibram Open dawned clear and beautiful. It warmed up pretty good to about 90 degrees but the weather report said it would be the hottest day of the weekend so tomorrow may be a bit cooler.

European Moving Day

Denmark’s Karl Johan Nybo had the hot round of the day at the European Championships with a 55 (-11) to move into second place behind Simon Lizotte of Germany. Lizotte made great drives but struggled with his midrange game during round three but he was still able to post a 58 (-8) for a tournament total of -28 to hold onto a five throw lead over Nybo who is at -23 going into the final 18 holes tomorrow. Oscar Stenfelt of Sweden and Arttu Sikanen of Finland will round out the lead group at -21 and -20 respectively.
