I think Chris is busy with Marathon stuff just now.
Now that's the understatement of the year :D Things are good but very busy. I have lots of new entries for Arlington that I will process in the morning and politely ask Gary to post to the Texas 10 website.
Last night I played the Veteran's course and walked some of the new holes Jason designed for the event. It will be a large mix of holes and a challenge for everyone. Don't forget the original front 9 around the pond will be in use.
This event on June 19th will be a special one for me as the State Marketing Manager of Anheuser-Busch will be there. I encourage everyone to show in full Ziegen Bock wear and show her just how much we appreciate the support. The support and belief in this tour from AB is nothing short of fantastic and could be the tip of the iceberg for us all.
In the last 3 1/2 years you all have supported what I have done better than even I could have imagined. Now it's time to show that support to the people that can take us to the next level. Play Texas 10 in Arlington and help take the tour to that next level.
Time to get back to all the phone messages adn emails for the Marathon. Just confirmed Santa Cruz, Huntsville and St.Louis today.
Thanks
Chris

mr. atwood, as we all know, except for you that is, an adult rhino has no fear of others in the jungle. this would also include the following: A semiaquatic egg-laying mammal (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) of Australia and Tasmania, having a broad flat tail, webbed feet, and a snout resembling a duck's bill. i point this out mr. atwood, in the hopes that it will help you face your fears and stop running from you true identity. by the way, i will let you guess who i am calling the rhino, and it is not mr bender....

Charles, are you stupid man? I didn't just buy a house a mile away from Veteran's Park for nothing! Yeah, I'll be there, and it's actually part of my bachelor party weekend. Some friends are driving into town and we're doing poker Friday night, playing ZT-10 Saturday, and doing the usual stuff Saturday night. It will be an awesome weekend, and I can't wait. Hopefully I can get into town a little early on that Friday so I can play doubles. (BTW - Chris you are doing dub's that night, right?) Anyway, see you all at the Vet!

Good news about the Dallas ZT10 event.
We will be using 2 courses which will be both located at Flag Pole Hill. If any of you have seen this park it is beautiful. We have the whole park reserved and will be setting up overlooking both courses.
Now back to Arlington...

Chris - will atleast one of the courses at FPH be on the already nicely mowed and hilly area? You could put some super holes in there.

Jun 10 2004, 02:05 PM
How many courses do you think are out there?
We will have one course setup on the manicured hill top around the flag pole and one in the meadows at the bottom.
Sorry I have only been there once so don't know the hole layout yet! I played the hill top course a couple of years ago and it was great fun. Dirk says the bottom course in even better.
The choice came down to Flag Pole Hill (2 courses) or using White Rock Lake and BB Owens. I choose Flag Pole Hill to support the work Dirk Snow is doing with the city in getting that as a permanent course. Some decisions are made to benefit long term development in the area. This could be a very good thing for the courses in that area.
At least we don't have to listen to Vinnie whine about the baskets at BB Owen :D
Off to Waco...to see the wizard...the wonderful wizard of Waco.

there are 3 courses at FPH. 2 permanent and 1 temp. I'm not sure if the perm courses are in yet, but if they are as good as the temp course, we're in for a treat. Kudos to Dirk for all the hard work he's been doing there at FPH. I greatly enjoyed the DFW food drive event at the FPH temp course.

Alright N8, easy there big fella. There's a lot of circumstances involved in this date and the two events that share it. Let's not be too hard on either of them.
Besides, these days in Texas, as you and everyone else are finding out, its just the way it is these days, with multiple event weekends. As long as the mileage considerations are workable between the two events, that's about all anyone can ask for this year. And, maybe for some years to come.

there's alot that goes into event scheduling. hopefully gnduke will chime in here and correct me where I'm wrong, but all pdga-sanctioned events must be approved by the state coordinator so that there are not too many conflicts drawing players away from any events. the ZT10 tour, like all other non-sanctioned events, has the luxury of scheduling these events at leisure, although in most cases (especially in ZT10) the TDs will attempt to work around the pdga schedule. personally, I wouldn't consider lubbock and arlington to be in direct competition for players, but apparently they are. 350 or so miles should be enough to help players decide... anyway, I'm sure that mr. logan did not schedule his event without regard to the ZT10 schedule, or vice versa. sometimes conflicts just can't be avoided. Don't put down a TD just because of a schedule conflict.

I know alot of DFW tourney players that are just DFW players. I have never drove over three hours to play in a tourney and dont really plan on it. Texas is at least 2 states big. Bet both of them come close to filling, so that should say somethin in itself.
Still Sucks :(
I know, but the players and the sport are the overall winners in the big picture, with this kind of growth and support.
Wanna hear something amazing? After making dam near every ZLT10 as a player or a staffer for the 1st 3 1/2 years, I'll be missing Arlington to be at BAB.
It sucks for me too.
There's a lot that went in to this date for both TD's, like I said, don't doubt that, and the two have an understanding on it and know that neither can make everyone happy.
But, just like earlier this year in Witchita Falls, there can be great turnouts on multi-event weekends. Neither the WF ZLT10 or the Red Rock Show suffered due to their scheduling.
Let's just not be too hard on the folks involved, even though there is a certain "suck factor" involved for some of us individually.

(For job purposes). But who knows. I am not a TD and no, I dont know what goes into the planning of these events. But if I was a TD in Texas, I would make sure that my date did'nt fall on the same as one of the dates for the best traveling tour in Texas. (ZLT10)

lots of us do drive over 3 hours to play a tourney.... I made the trip to Wimberley from DFW a couple weeks ago, and it was worth every mile. If you never leave DFW, how will you ever experience courses like that? I'll be in Waco this weekend (only a 2 hour drive, but still...) and probably LiveOak in late July. For me, a few hours on the road is no big deal when I get to play great events with people I enjoy playing with. Your points count toward your overall total. As of now I know of no divisional prizes based on points other than bragging rights.
All of the funds for points awards are going into the new program.
Over 125 points gets you a voucher for a disc (std CE disc)
Over 200 points gets you a voucher for 2 discs
Over 250 points gets you a voucher for 4 discs
Possible to get 25 points x 9 events (for winning all events) = 225
Attend 9 events and get an additional 25 bonus points.
225 + 25 = 250
Attend the bonus qualifier tournaments and get a max of 50 more points.
250 + 50 = 300 possible points
get out and play.

Jun 10 2004, 06:50 PM
As for the scheduling question, the state coordinators do not get veto approval of dates. I have to help TDs with date conflicts between PDGA events, and can only encourage TDs not to schedule events together that draw from the same pool of players.
This is just one of the weekends where there is a possible conflict of players that would normally play in both events if they were not on the same weekend.
I am sure that it will get more crowded in the future instead of less.

Please let me know which to play and/or someone local that could tell me which ones to play. I tried one on my last trip to Indiana and it was a pretty crappy park...mud everywhere, weird-[*****] looking baskets, and no golfers in sight, so I figured I'd ask this time!
Also, I know how ya feel about missing the waco event. I so wanted to be there, but with next week and we had a wedding to go to last night, just didn't work out. I'll be at the waco ZT10 though. Thanks for the Tulsa input.

hey Chris / Gary:
The website has been saying 'Coming soon will be a full explanation of the "Bonus Rules".' for quite some time now... I'm still a little confused about how it will work. I know Gary just posted about the total number of points equating to a voucher for discs... Is that the entire bonus payout? It seems like an estimated $16k-$18k bonus would pay out a little better than that. Sems like the max bonus is 4 discs, and VERY few players are going to qualify for that level. What am i missing here?

Jun 14 2004, 01:00 PM
The bonus points have nothing to do with the bonus payout.
If you attend 4 of the first 9 events you are qualified to receive payout in the finals from the bonus payout pot.
The bonus points in the past paid only 10 places (1 in each division). This year instead of paying only one player in each division, your points earn plastic at a little better than $.10 per point.
This helps more people share in the pot. It also helps with the administrative problem of people playing in multiple divisions throughout the year. Since we are not competing only for the divisional title, all points count toward reaching the bonus levels.
I will get Chris the information to update the page this week. but it has been explained here several times.
125 pts = 1 candy disc
200 pts = 2 candy discs
250 pts - 4 candy discs
The bonus qualifiers will be added to the standings reports soon.
I think several players are already qualified at the first level.
ozdisc
Jun 14 2004, 01:09 PM
Thanks Gary.
The bonus payout is the same system it has been for the last 3 years. Play in 4 of the first 9 events and you qualify for the "bonus payout". If you cash at the final you get your share of all that added money.
The "bonus points" deal for the candy discs is a separate deal Gary Duke and the LSDGA came up with. The last 2 years we have given away 10 baskets to the 10 points winners. This year we decided to reward more people rather than just those 10.
Thanks
Chris

I've played 3 ZT10 this year, and this weekend makes my 4th, so I just wanted to verify the bonus situation. I hadn't read this explanation before... and I asked instead of searching back through 184+ pages to find it. Thanks for replying, maybe it would be a good thing to put it on the website so that people can find it easier. Also, was the Waco Charity Open a bonus qualifier this year? I know that the list on the website is incomplete. I apologize if any of these questions have already been asked, but I would not ask if I didn't need to know.

Yes it was, but I will be in Lubbock next weekend.
There is a problem with the shirts, and I am planning to get them re-done. Unfortunately, they no longer have the color the Josh has. Not sure on the time frame, but they should be here before worlds.

But of course. I really like that shirt. One suggestion to you and all those who do club shirts: If cost effective, a better breathing shirt would be great. I'd pay extra for it, and wear it more :). Ken Cantrell-------2
I still have to ask a few more people that I am sure wouldn't mind us using theirs(Claydog and My-Hero) so that would make 10. If anyone has any that they could bring out it would be greatly appreciated. If you want to bring them out to the park Friday night that won't be a problem(bringing the shop truck to store them in so they will be safe overnight). If not EARLY Saturday morning would be great.....for some reason that Aussie is dragging me out there at 5AM

Sup fellas...Hey Adam you are correct, that map has not been updated.
We have 10 courses in the Tulsa area
Haikey Creek Park
Hunter Park
McClure Park
Course Dovillio
Riverside
Chandler
Westport
Reed Park
Mack Taylor (sperry)
Copperhead Canyon (our most challenging course but is closed during the summer)
Jeter, if you need directions to any courses while you are here feel free to contact me 918-629-9370.
Hey Danny and Adam, oops that was my bad I totally forgot about The Bunker in Sand Springs (5 minutes from downtown Tulsa). It's Jose Mendoza's course and is really fun to play, it's 9 holes with 3 different tee pads for every hole. All kinds of long cool shots.
Westport is a 9 hole course on the east side of the Arkansas river, there is a view of downtown from the entire course. The longest hole out there is about 220ft.

Not really, just the visibility of having the shirt out there. The profit margin is about the same for all of the shirts and it's less than $3. I don't do it for a profit, just to get the shirts out there. They are good shirts, and expensive enough with adding a big markup.

Went out there tonight to clear a few of the temp holes and didn't hardly get muddy at all(and it poured for 2 hours here). The course dries up very quick so even if it rains Friday everyone will be fine. See everyone Friday or Sat morning and if you end up with a closer goal, let me know and I won't drag mine from this side of town. Sounds like we may have a carload of 5 guys and one of them for his 1st tourney ever...Look out MA3..he can play

The City doesn't want anything visible to the public to mark the sleaves. We spoke to them today and have settled on putting those plastic containers you use for the water shut off valve at your house around EVERY pin. The only problem I have is most of the sleaves that were damaged by lawnmowers were in areas they have never mowed in the past

Happy Birthday Adam. Thirty isn't so bad. It's when the kids start asking "Mom, back in the old days when you were little did they have TV?" you know you're getting old.
Maybe you and David will share the leader card this weekend. That'd be cool.

Okay we are now at 140 paid entries. At this rate I suggest being at the course early this afternoon to pay your entry if you want in. Titledisc is closed and I can not take credit cards over the phone while I am away from home You have had plenty of chances as always. The field will be capped I expect sometime this afternoon or tonight but I wil try to keep everyone informed.
It is going to be a warm day so please be responsible and bring plenty of water etc to drink. We will have water all over the course and Red Bull at lunch but don't rely on that just in case Jason rolls the drinks golf cart.
If you don't know all the meeting areas are at the lower (south) pavillion off Spanish Trail. That is near Hole 1.
Time to go and do something?
Thanks
Chris
Chris what is the field being capped at since you are using 2 courses.

If you are coming in from the west side of Arlington you are fine. If you are coming in from the East side just take I-30 instead of I-20. Exit Eastchase and go south (it will turn into Green Oaks). Then take a left on Arkansas and a right on Spanish Trail.
Now shut your arse biatch.....you're not even coming cause you're scared of the local boys :D:D:D

Brian are you a Daddy yet?
Saturday was a great day for many reasons. 185 players enjoyed the day while almost as many (felt like it) were turned away. One day people will understand some simple concepts of paying early. If not that $25,000 Hole in One will be someone elses.
We started right on time as usual and were treated to some very warm and humid weather. The ever present winds at Veteran's were nowhere to be seen so the North Course should have played easier.
Rumor has it Jason "Wildflower" Chamberlain was getting all sorts of hand greetings on the North Course all day while driving around on the golf cart :D The wildflowers obvoiusly caused more trouble than anyone could have imagined. Picture this... a 200 foot shot over the OB wild flowers and people kept coming up short and OB? The hole prior to that was a 320 foot shot that coughed up a 4 circle OB 10 for some unlucky Adv Master.
Despite 185 players on the 2 courses the 1st round moved very quick and easy. I guess everyone wanted to get in to the shade and the beer tent. The round moved so quick I made a time judgement error on the lunch break. Most players enjoyed 2 hours of R&R during lunch. Some went swimming, some went to the bar, others just tried to come to terms with the wild flowers.
Round 2 started in very hot and humid conditions and still no wind. About 15 minutes into the round all that came to an abrupt halt. 3 1/2 years of good weather came to a head in seconds. From my vantage point in the Thunder I dove out of the office to save the tents etc. The wind had picked up from nothing to 40 mph plus in seconds. As we at HQ saved the tents, beer, food, and banners the players on the open North Course failed to save a shade tent. I hear that 4 grown men were almost thrust into the sky on the legs on a pop up tent. Hang on for your lives guys was the cry. We lost the tent, that now looks like anything but a tent.
In the mean time it was still just very strong winds and dark sky, no thunder or worse lighting near us. The storm was moving so quick I had an air horn on standby just in case. Jason and I decided on waiting a little to call the round. A little thunder and lots of wind was still okay. Then in one almighty BOOM the sky lite up, the thunder rocked the Thunder and I dove horizontal at the air horn to put a hold on the round. This was amazing!. Word has it that lightning had struck a fairway and then the skies dumped a large amount of rain on us. People went scurring for shelter all over the courses.
As quick as it hit, it also cleared. I went driving up to the North Course to let everyone know we would be starting up again in about 10 minutes. By the time I had made the rounds it was back to being clear skies and sunny. What's that saying about Texas weather?
All in all we lost about 30 minutes or so. Not bad I think considering the weather that hit.
The second round finished withn everyone in great spirits although very tired and worn out. Processing the scores would have been a little quicker if the REC and INT divisions would have realized they both had a tie for first. The cool trophies were on display and things were ready to come to a close. THe sky was clear and the wind was gone.

What a great weekend.....185 players on the Vet, I never thought I would see that :D When I told Chris to make wildflowers OB on the holes on the North course I never thought it would be that big of an issue to most players, I just wanted to keep the powers that be happy by not having people standing or running up in the flowers. As I was driving the course during the first round I had several players tell me I was #1 with that universal sign language signal and then yell something about the wildflowers :D This was the joke of the day after that. I apoligize about the whole water mess the first round, by the time I realized that the water in the park was shut off, the round was fixing to start  I took care of it as soon as I could. Thanks to everyone that came out and enjoyed the day at Vets. :D
BTW......the next ***** that steals beer out of my personal cooler right in front of me and the laughs about it when I say something is likely to get knocked out.....go buy your own

as for your personal beer, Jason... I guess since you guys were working so hard and there were so many coolers and beers around... the guilty party probably didn't realize that it was your personal cooler. still... i think whoever it was should owe you a sixer.
as for the wildflowers... i think if the pin on the 200' hole (#12?) was about 50 feet back, not so many people would have been OB. I went OB twice (!?!) on that hole. The first shot I was trying to park it with an aviar... hit the tops of the flowers and stopped. so now, I'm looking at a 4. I had to try and park it again, same result. ended up double-circle-7 which ruined an otherwise strong round. I'm certainly not placing blame. If I had played smarter, I would not have gone OB. If I had practiced the alternates that morning, I would have known how to throw that hole better... Alas, I am still an AM :-)

Sorry if it took a while to get paid out Pat. Sometimes things happen that are unavoidable. Have you ever tried to process 185 scores in 5 minutes? I had everyone's scores posted at lunch an hour before tee time. The second round also involves payouts, splits, ties and a bunch of computer work. The method we have to pay people is the best I can think of but with so many players it takes time. If anyone wants me to pre-package thier winnings please let me know, I am sure I can find some Lightning discs to get rid off.
As I said at the players meeting if people continue to signup late, and we have huge fields things will take time. We all have choices to make and you all know the one I gave if we don't get more volunteers and staff. Do the right thing by me and I will do my best for you. :)
Thanks again for everyone having a fun time in that little rain shower and lightning strikes on the course :)

If you dont' want the strokes, don't throw OB...real simple...everyone had to play the exact same holes, so it was fair for all.
One of the best TX10's I have played in yet...The Vet crew and club are simply impressive in what they do for their course.
