I don't think that any of them are actually in the groud yet, but we are supposed to play one in the lower area (where the food drive was held) and one up on the hill ( some of you played there 2 or more years ago)...the very nicely mowed and very hilly area

The Top 5 Players in MA3 would have placed 3rd and down and knock all the MA2's guys that placed much further back...60 on the Beast by an MA3

MA2 and MA1's top 10 were almost identical minus the very top 3 in MA1...

and none of the MA1's would have fared to well in the Pro Payout

Goodness..just looking at all those stats for the 6 events so far is amazing....128 DIFFERENT MA2's have played so far this year

No OMB's were looked at on this :D

Another beatiful TX10, and probably one of my favorites to date just due to all the great friends, the holes and the fun.

I want to congratulate Scott McBride for his 2nd win in a row...I am apparently a good luck charm for him and bad for myself when we shoot together...but what a great putt in the shootout...Josh..the kid got you this time...I heard you say "0-4 in playoffs"...You still had one great final round and rolled right back into place.

James, John, Gurrin, Angelo, John x2 and Steve...great to shoot with you..

See everyone soon

Oh WAIT...and ATWOOD....was I the only person that didn't lose to you on the bet???...Are we still on for the double or nothing....???

TYING ATWOOD IS NOT ACCEPTABLE :o:D
good to see you friend!!

Jul 13 2004, 09:27 PM
Can't speak for the course on the hill, but as for the temp. course along the creek: in the food drive about 6 of the first 9 were all lefty shots; and the back 9 were in the woods and fairly long w/ a creek splitting the middle.
Not the Beast, but not simple by any means.

anyone ever played this temp hole layout? any descriptions?

Wow, 1 stroke away from my first ever cashing spot in MM1 at a ZT10 event. Rec, Int. and Advanced players have all felt the sting of being knocked out of the cash at a ZT10 by yours truly, but none of my OMB brethren have yet had the pleasure. Dangit! So close. :)

My goal for the day was even at Olde Cameron and +10 on the Beast. I told Chris the week before the event that a +10 on the day would cash in my division. As it happened, +12 was a 3-way tie for last cash. Same score was last cash in MA1. I was +13.

Overall I was pleased since I was only 3 strokes off my goal for the day with a +11 at the Beast and a disappointing +2 at Olde Cameron.

Adam, you were not the only challenger not to lose a bet. Jeter Dawg took a dollar from me by 1 and Francine took a Z-Buzzz from me by 1.

JWOODY did best my score by 2 strokes, but playing numerous shorter tees, especially on the Beast, rendered our bet void. He says he's moving up soon, so I'm sure we'll try again.

Bill, thanks for the Zimas. :)

Gary W., I still haven't gone back through the thread to see if we had anything on it, but you know what time it is, don't you? ;)

And...Josh Dann. Well, well, well, what can I say. I will say this. Josh was so downtrodden after getting whipped by me on Saturday that he offered to staff for me at LOSO. I felt bad for him and I'm gonna take pity on the poor boy by not rubbing it in. He paid his debt, with no excuses.

But if I am gonna be the bigger MAN about it, I will demand an immediate cessation of all this madame crap. I earned it.

As for you Adam, I can't believe you wouldn't play me off for the bragging rights and the beer. You're right about one thing, tying you IS unacceptable. :)

One last smack talking item related to the ZT10. As everyone was coming up to me Saturday and handing me money and taking their licks, Kyle Lurch Grundman was busy making a point of stating that although he'd had to come back to avoid it before, he had never been added to my Hit List.

Kyle, welcome to the list, courtesy of the Golden Toothed Beast. Have a nice day. :)

Flag Pole Hill

Lower course approved, design changes need to be made because of the flood prone area. Baskets to be used are EBR's (so if you ever want to play EBR again, do it soon0

Upper course - not approved yet, but that part of the park has been cleaned up and the course is mostly designed.

Temp course. This is the one used for the last Dallas Disc Golf tournament. It is the one actually on Flag Pole Hill.

This info is of a few weeks ago.

so EBR is going away, huh? last time i was out there I could only find 15 baskets, even though I found all 18 tees. The grass was above waist-high (and I'm 6'6" so that means the grass would have been over BamBam's head). Hopefully the city of Dallas will put these baskets in at FPH, then actually take care of the course a little bit. Still, it's a shame to see the only course in DFW with a 1100'+ hole go away.

Dirk Snow is the city contact for Disc golf in Dallas. EBR gets no play anymore. Flag Pole Hill on the other hand will get tons of play from the overflow from BB Owen.

I would not be supprized if EBR has missing baskets. Even though they are put in as good as you can do them. They havce rebar and cement down the pole on each one, this keeps the pipe cutters away. And before the concrete was poured, they put rebar into the holes it different directions just to make is harder to dig out. it is going to take 3ft holes just to get those baskets out of the ground.

I did shoot a lot of video nothing special came out of it. Of course I was hoping to catch an ace run. 1. Lance Armstrong (USP) 2,802.1km in 67h53'24" (41.265km/h)
2. Ivan Basso (CSC) at 3'48"
3. Andreas Kloden (TMO) at 5'03"

Lance has pummelled the field at L'Alpe d'Huez. Beating Ullrich by 1'01", Kloden by 1'41", Mancebo by 3'40" and Basso by 2'20".

Ullrich was second in the stage.

This from ESPN.com News Services:

"Until then, the only worry for Armstrong came before the start of the stage, when it was found that his bike, which had been designed especially for the time trial, was too light by 180 grams."

While talking with a lady at work yesterday, I noticed that she was wearing a yellow "LIVESTRONG" bracelet, and I commented on it. Cool.

I lost one parent, at least one grandparent, and several aunts/uncles to cancer. I hope you bring some to Des Moines, Chris.

Rather than starting a few new threads without all the info I will post some news here just to give everyone a little heads up to the upcoming events I have planned in Texas and Oklahoma :)

September 4-5 : Corpus Coastal Clash
PDGA B-tier with minimum $500 added to Pro and all amateurs recieve a players pack. Sponsored by Joe's Crab Shack and Miller Lite. Players party with band, catered meals, Miller Girls, $39 hotel deal. This is the long weekend so plan on a fun weekend at the beach especially with that great hotel rate.

September 12 : Hooters Classic - Live Oak
I will likely be sanctioning this as a PDGA C-tier event. It will be held as a one day Sunday event in Live Oak. The local Hooters resturant in Selma will be in attendance all day, serving lunch and selling merchandise. Then after the event we all head over to Hooters for the players party.

September 19 : Discraft Ace Race
This event will be held at Live Oak and be hosted by the "Ladies of Live Oak". All proceeds of the event will go to promoting the sport to local women. $20 entry gets you 2 proto Discraft discs, a hat, mini and bag tag. Support Womens Disc Golf and play this fun event.

October 2-3 : Twisted Flyer Open (OKC)
A PDGA B-tier supported by Hooters and Boulevard Breweries. This will be a huge event north of the border. Both Hooters and Boulevard are keen to impress in Oklahoma City and will be pulling out all the stops. Likely events include a 2 band live concert in the Hooters parking lot Saturday night, plus much more.

I will announce lots more info about all these events in the next week. Do yourself a favor and play and support these events, it will be worth it :D

Lots more info soon.

Thanks

Yesterday was a historic day in both sport, and cancer research. Lance Armstrong made history yesterday by winning his sixth consecutive Tour de France, confirming his place as the worlds best cyclist and to many people, the worlds best athlete. By doing so Lance helps to even further enhance the work done by the Lance Armstrong Foundation in its support of cancer research and cancer survivors around the world. It was not so long ago that Lance did not think he would live another day in his very own fight against cancer.

These last four years that we as disc golfers have supported the Lance Armstrong Foundation have been a wonderful and enlightening experience. Ten of thousands of dollars has been raised by disc golfers in support of Lances charity. This past week a smile would come to my face each time I saw a disc golfer wearing one on those little yellow wristbands that have been sold all over the world to help raise money for the cause. I am proud to say that Disc Golf is apart of a worldwide effort to fight cancer and help cancer survivors.

The Texas 10 Charity Tour has grown from humble beginnings, for many different reasons, both large and small. One big reason is our belief in what we do and the difference we make while doing it. Your support of these events does more than just serve as a way to enjoy a day of disc golf in the park with friends, it helps raise money for the foundation and elevate the sport we all love to a degree that everyday it becomes a little more known, a little more accepted, and one day soon to a level of national sponsorship we all dream of. Things take time, but with a strong belief and determination anything is possible, just look at the last four years for us, and the last six years for Lance.

The next couple of months will continue to be very busy on the disc golf calendar. I would like to list the upcoming events I am involved with and/or proud to support. Please do what you can to support these events as they support the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Lots more info will be told on many of these events very soon.

As you will see in September and October I am hosting two PDGA events, one in Corpus Christi, Texas and one in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. If you want to see the benefit of corporate support please schedule yourself to attend at least one of these events.

July 31: Ziegen Light Texas 10 Charity Tour - Victoria
August 9-14: PDGA World Championships Des Moines, Iowa
August 21: Ziegen Light Texas 10 Charity Tour Dallas
August 28-29: Outlaws Round Rock, Texas
September 4-5: Corpus Coastal Clash Corpus Christi, Texas
September 12: Hooters Classic Live Oak, Texas
September 19: LOLO Discraft Ace Race Live Oak, Texas
October 2-3: Twisted Flyer Open Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

ZT10 Victoria : Entries are still open at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) Click on www.texas10tour.com (http://www.texas10tour.com) for information on hotel deals, directions and event info. Dont miss your chance to play two, eighteen hole courses in Victoria during summer.

PDGA Worlds: This will be where the World release of the infamous, Hooters Girls of Disc Golf discs will be first available. Come and see me at the Fly-Mart or at the Finals Day to see these and many more cool discs and merchandise. The latest Play Disc Golf Fight Cancer merchandise will be available before its return to Texas.

ZT10 Dallas: This years event will feature two temporary courses both at the very beautiful Flag Pole Hill Park. More info soon but you can signup now at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com)

Outlaws: Please support one of the richest PDGA events in central Texas hosted by the Double R Disc Golf Club in Round Rock. All proceeds from the raffle and food sales will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation. For more information check out the PDGA discussion page or email Vincent Miller at [email protected]

Corpus Coastal Clash: A PDGA B-tier at the beach on a long weekend, now that sounds like some fun in the sun. Sponsored by Joes Crab Shack and Miller Lite beer this event will be big. A minimum of $500 cash is already added to Pro and all Amateurs will receive a great players package. A hotel deal has been done at the Ramada Limited for just $39.95 per night. Now where can you stay near the beach on a long weekend for that price? Saturday night the players party will be hosted by Joes Crab Shack overlooking the harbor and ocean in downtown Corpus Christi. A live band is scheduled along with free giveaways and door prizes. Lots more info coming soon.

Hooters Classic: This one day, two round PDGA C-tier will be hosted by the Selma Hooters Restaurant. Lunch will be catered by the Hooters staff along with free giveaways, Hooters merchandise for sale, and maybe even a Hooters disc or two. You wont go thirsty at this event as the girls will be located around the course serving everyone cold drinks. A players party at the restaurant will follow after the event.

Ladies of Live Oak Discraft Ace Race: If there is one thing other than supporting the Lance Armstrong Foundation I believe in it is supporting women in disc golf. This event will be hosted by the Ladies of Live Oak and all proceeds for the day will benefit ways to encourage more ladies to play and enjoy the sport. Click on www.discgolfpromotions.com (http://www.discgolfpromotions.com) for more info. Entries will be available at TitleDISC soon. For just $20 entry you will receive 2 proto Discraft discs, a hat, a mini, and a bag tag.

Twisted Flyer Open, OKC: North of the Red River we shall go. I invite all Texans to join me in the enjoyable 3 hour drive north of Dallas for this very big event. Sponsored by Hooters and Boulevard Breweries this event will bring quality disc golf events back to Oklahoma City. A long list of cool events is planned for the weekend including an Outdoor Live Concert featuring two bands right in the middle of the Hooters parking lot. This event will be advertised all over Oklahoma City on 100.5 the Katt Rock station. Click on www.discgolfpromotions.com (http://www.discgolfpromotions.com) for more info and a downloadable poster. An early Sunday finish is planned for everyone to make that drive home in daylight. If you only plan on playing one event this October, play this one!

Its a long list but a great list. Keep an eye on my new website www.discgolfpromotions.com (http://www.discgolfpromotions.com) for all the latest news and events. Please also note my new email address is [email protected]

Yours in Flight,

Chris,

What are the chances of Lance visiting, or even better, participating in either the Z-Tx10 opener, or Finals one year? I sure would like to see him "throw a disc for cancer." Heck, i'll even challenge him to a race around Lake Park for a publicity stunt :DBTW, don't let him know that i'll collapse after 1/2 mile due to being so out of shape :(

Jul 26 2004, 01:16 PM
33 players reged in Santa Cruz Saturday AM.

By Midnight we were down to 16.

In the end 10 players played 24 hours straight, it was very challenging. They completed over 150 holes (I have to get the official count).

AT the end of 24 we raffled the basket between the finishers and it was won by one of our new young players from Delaveaga, Ryan McNamara, who was also one of our top money raisers and is himself a cancer survivor!

Way to go Ryan! and everyone who finished, and tried. It was grueleing, I can tell you personally as my body gave out at the 21 hour mark. I was staring to bump into too many things : )

Thanks to DGA for the basket. Odwalla Juice, Elyxer, and everyone who helped.

I will again have the pleasure of riding with Lance in October. The week I do all the Lance and LAF functions is the same week as the USDGC. I choose Lance this time. It's not that often someone gets the chance to ride and dine with the great man himself. I think I need to start training as well. Last years ride was brutal.

ozdisc
Jul 27 2004, 05:03 PM
I just love it when everyone just assumes what they want and then beleive it :D

The entries listed on the texas10tour.com site are purely as a extra service for you players that need to know who you will be beaten by each event. The results after the event is what this page is designed for.

Unfortuneately the process of receiving Titledisc entries, processing them and then getting them all online is not as easy as everyone thinks. Gary has developed a great tool for us but it's a lot of work. Can you imagine keeping those stats for 1000's of players and dozens of events? I prefer to spend my time buying new products, getting new sponsors, and making the actual event a better time for everyone than worrying if someone has remembered to enter early.

When the entry list is updated online those entries include ALL entries I have received at that time, even those that come by Dingo Express.

I have dozens of entries sitting on my desk right now that I will get to in time for Victoria trust me. If you have paid you will be happy to know you will have a great time in Victoria or any other event. If you haven't paid and miss out like the last 3 events that have filled guess who is to blame?

Okay now a few things about this weekend.

Doubles: Will be held from 3 to 6pm in the park near hole 1. $10 per player, pick your own partner etc. The original course will be used.

Late Entries: I will be accepting entries in Victoria on Friday at doubles. I however will not be accepting entries over the phone. You have until late Thursday night to enter at Titledisc or be in the park before 7:30am Saturday. Yes I said it, be there before 7:30am and you are in. 7:31am and your out of luck.

HQ Location:[b] We will be set up in the Lions Club Pavillion right in the middle of the course. You can't miss it.

[b]Camping:[b] Yes camping is allowed in the park and is free. The area to camp is right behind the Lions Club Pavillion.

[b]Hotel Info: Check a few posts up for the hotel deal at La Quinta.

Lunch: Lunch will be catered by our friends at Chili's.

Please note the new 18 holes that has been designed will not be setup until early Saturday morning. Maps, scorecards, distances etc will all be available after the players meeting at 8:30am Saturday.

For those of you that think you can play better with a description of the course here you go.

Average hole length is around 250 feet with only about 2 holes over 400 feet. The fairways are tight and many shots require you to navigate between some big trees. Pick the gap, throw the shot, and a birdie is yours. I will be playing the course on Thursday so will report more then.

More news soon...

Thanks
Chris

Hi Ed. I think the count is at only around 6 or 7. Come on people please help out. The local guys in Victoria have done a huge amount of work getting the second course ready to play.

The City messed with us as usual. They doubled booked us with some "more important" event. We now have lost holes 17 and 18 on the original course. All the locals baskets are now being used to cover those losses and a couple of other changes we needed to make.

Free "something" to every basket that we use. I will be in Victoria from late tomorrow night so am unsure how much computer time I will have to check on things.

Thanks

Jul 28 2004, 01:22 AM
Okay, listen up folks, this is important.

There's a reason why the Victoria Open is one of the most long running events in Texas, next to Waterloo. There's a reason why over the years it has had a great turnout regardless of whether or not it was sanctioned. There's a reason new players hear about the "Great Riverside Park Course in Victoria" when they start playing disc golf in Texas.

The reason?

Simple.

Its one of the best courses and greatest experiences you will find in disc golf in the state of Texas! Period.

I can't wait to get back to the greatness of Victoria for some tourney golf, but there's something else that's drawing me there too.

The Vic Open is always in February. That means that we have never gotten to play this world class awesome course during the "green" months when the trees are filled in and the course is actually at its best.

If you're considering traveling to any out of your area course to play golf all year in Texas, you will regret missing out on this unique opportunity.

Trust me. You guys know I don't exxagerate when it comes to stuff like this.

(just when it comes to how many putts I hit.)

Liz and Salisa are playing? Awesome! Lets have a great ladies turnout for this one.

OMB's, looks like I'm in the cash for sure based on that pre-reg lineup. Gary Duke and my nemesis Hovey? Is that all you got mate? Finally, MartyrMan will cash in a ZT10 Adv. Master field. WooHoo!!!

OK Folks, it's time to step up! By my count, we have 3 (maybe 5) local baskets and 12 (maybe 14) coming from some very generous folks. If we only get the 15 that are for sure, we will still be 3 short! We need your help! If you can get someone to let you borrow thier basket, BRING IT!

Some news about the courses in bit.

I just thought you might want know that on Sunday, Aug. 1, the HOG DAYS OF SUMMER will be held in the park in the special events area where had to move some holes. This is a Harley owners event to raise funds for local charity. Free live entertainment will start about noon (I think). Performers include: Seth James, Todd Snyder and... RAY WILEY HUBBARD AND HIS FULL BAND!!!! It's FREE! It's in the park! Plenty of food and beverages will be available (not free). This will be a fantastic way to end a great Disc Golf weekend! You don't want to miss this this opportunity!

As promised, 2 courses have been set up in Riverside Park. Course maps and definitions will be provided at the players meeting.

The "Riverside" course will consist of Holes 1 thru 13 with temp holes 3A (282 ft), 5A (310 ft), 8A (273 ft), 11A (384 ft) & 13A (343 ft). As set-up, this will be a 6174 ft course.

The "Fox Bend" Course is where things get interesting. Hole #1 is the original #14, (573'). Hole #2 is original #15 (354'). Hole 3 starts the new holes. #3 is 262'. #4 is 210'. #5 is 247'. #6 is 311'. #7 is 258' tunnel shot to a basket guarded by 4 large trees, # 8 is 305'(2 huge trees in the farway) to a small gap to the basket. #9 is 305' thru 2 trees about 75' from tee, then open. Basket is between 2 trees 10' on either side. #10 is 279'hard dogleg right. #11 is 275'. #12 is 295' (watch out for 15' tall "Blood Weed" on both sides). #13 is 236, very tight tunnel shot a very tight basket. #14 is 245'. #15 is tight tunnel to small green, OB left & beyond. #16 is the "Open" 'B hole' played backwards. #17 is the "Open" 'C' hole. The finishing hole is the original #16. That makes "Fox Bend" come in at 5691'.

A long & open course and short & tight course both in the same park!

So there you have it. Who else (besides the Aussie) is going to give better details about a tournement!

See ya'll at the box.

G'day from Victoria,

Well I arrived just in time last night to take a quick walk around the new Fox Bend course. Wow this is going to be fun. Just stay in the fairways and all is good. I will hopefully meet the city today to get a little more mowing done.

The tree coverage is awesome and the trees are hanging much lower than when I first designed the course. Lots of tight and low shots. Larry Thompson, I think I have designed a course to take away all those thumbers :D

When you are out of the new course the world seems so far away. It's very quite back there and dark. The good thing is there is no way to get lost. If you follow the mowed fairways you will find your way home.

I know I will say it a lot this weekend but thankyou Riverside Disc Golf Club. These guys have done a great job getting it all ready. When you see the new course you will see what I am talking about.

Don't miss this event of these two courses. It will be a great day

Thanks
Chris

Three guys from the North Mississippi Short Arm Crew are heading down to Victoria tonight. We'll be checking the courses out tomorrow. Looking forward to some Texas golf! Look for the green Isuzu Rodeo with the MS plates and say hi!

Jul 29 2004, 02:25 PM
News from the Aussie, via the miracle of cellular technology. ;)

1. LaQuinta. Evidently, there are not a big number of rooms left for the weekend. If you want one, you better call 'em now and get one. Call the main number for the Victoria location (not the #800, they can't help you) at 361-572-3585. Tell them you want the rate for the Texas 10 Disc Golf Tournament. That's all you gotta do, and they'll handle it. But, don't dally, silly golfers.

2. Titledisc. Its starting to look like some folks are waiting until the last minute. Please don't. There could be a bunch of walk up registrations on Saturday and that is never desired. Too many Saturday morning will make Chris grumpy and we don't want that. Do yourselves and your TD a favor and get on titleDISC right now. Registration for this event closes TONIGHT! Do it now and be part of helping to make for a smoother Saturday morning.

Besides, you know you're gonna go. Why?

1. The most popular tour in Texas

2. One of the oldest and best courses in a state with lots of old great courses.

3. A rare tournament opportunity (since the Vic Open is always in Feb.) to play this great park with the gorgeous old huge pecan trees all green and the course as tight and demanding as you're likely to see it.

Now, go to titleDISC, call LaQuinta and get ready for a GREAT 1st time stop for ZLT10 in Victoooooooooooooriaaaaaa!

Update II - The Sequel!

:D

Just got off the phone with Thunder and he had been looking at the weather radar and noticed the rest of us are getting a little wet. He wanted me to relay that its dry and sunny (hot even) in Vic town and that the local forecast calls for clear skies. Don't be a'skeert of the weather. There won't be any. :)

<font size=-3> (The preceeding statement is based on radar and the reports of talking heads on the news. The author above can not be held responsible for its accuracy, although he does choose to believe that good weather will indeed be the norm for the weekend.) </font>

I just got back from limping around the new course which is named "Fox's Bend". Here is the challenge to everyone...I played the entire round without missing a single fairway and landed on cut grass on every shot. Who will be able to say that after Saturday? I am thinking a score of 10 under will do the job.

The course is tight, short and has some big trees that stare you down. Practise your 250 foot turnover shots and you should do well.

Plenty of room in the event so bring it on down to sunny Victoria and play some shaded golf. The Riverside course has great tree coverage and has lots of shade. The Fox's Bend course also is well shaded but doesn't have the cooling breeze like the long course. No mosquito's at the moment which is great.

Time to head to the hotel and do what TD's do.

Thanks
Chris

Things are looking good here in Victoria. The rain shower last night cooled things down a little and settled the grass cuttings on both courses. Maybe now I can stop sneazing.

If you have never seen this park in Summer you are in for a real treat. Things are green, the leaf coverage is full and both courses look great.

Titledisc is closed but we still have plenty of spots left. Just be here before 7pm tonight or before 7:30am in the morning to enter. For some crazy reason my cell phone can make calls but not receive them. I am trying to find out why.

Doubles will be from 3 to 6pm flex start. We will be using the original Riverside Course for doubles however due to the city messing with us a few hole changes have been made. We will have maps and scorecards ready for doubles.

If you really want to see the new temp course you are welcome to just remember you are shooting at orange flags until Saturday morning.

Thanks for the basket offers, we are still a couple short from what I know so if you have room please bring what you can.

Time to head out and buy water, get some cash and wash the Thunder :D

Thanks

FYI- We'll be bringing a total of 2 baskets (we're replacing the discatcher's base as I write this and the other one's packed already). Atwood, if you talk to Dale, ask about the 2 baskets he was going to bring. I scanned the board since the call for baskets went out and I came up with:
Vinnie 1
Atwood 1
Jimbo 1
Us 2
Quattlebaums 1
Coffeys 2
Dale (ninelives)2
Martin T 1
Alex-Circle R 1
Andy Lehmann 1
Lyle O 1 +1??
Danielle (via Jimbo) 2 for sure, 2 from Dad's??
Chris Albert 1

That makes 20 if all the maybes come through and 15 if Dale's baskets, Danielle's other baskets and Lyle's second post of a basket don't come. Just thought it might be helpful to see the total if you read this, Chris. We'll see you around 6 tonight.

I just wanted to give a BIG THANK YOU! to the following people: Alisha Reeves, Lilo Burda, Salisa Harrell, Laura Quattlebaum, Jaimee Curtis, Mindy Neal and last but never least Chris Himing. For helping me and making me feel better after my episode. Also, another Thank you to everybody else who expressed their concerns. It is definitely true what they say about disc golfers. We take care of each other like family. I don't know what I would have done if all of you weren't there for me. Thank you so much! I owe all of you alot! It was a great tournament like usual I wish I could have finished it. But this won't stop me from playing the best sport ever. I also wanted to apologize for interrupting anybody's game. Thanks again! :)

Aug 02 2004, 11:58 AM
Okay, time to face the music and take my medicine.

Whew! What a day. The Fox's Bend course played a lot tougher for a large number of players than I think we thought it would. I'd like to say thanks to Tommy Turk Isenberg, who came out with a riding mower to mow the original areas for the fairways and greens to give the city an idea where to clear. If you saw what was off the fairways, you can only imagine what Tommy had to put his mower through to cut the virgin path through all that mess. WTG, my friend.

Great job to Chris and all that were involved in laying out this fun course. It was a great test of the finesse game and mental focus, rather than a test of the distance of your arm. I think it would be great to see two different types of courses permanently in place in this awesome park.

However, if you could permanently install some fans too, we'd all appreciate it. OMG! As much as I kept from blowing up in the first round and even buckled down to finish strong instead of giving up after a very rocky start, the second round was just the opposite. I hit a wall physically and mentally. A ridiculous 6 hours of sleep in the previous 48 (Thurs. nite sick kid - not my fault, Fri. up late blabbing - completely my fault), combined with some of the toughest heat and humidity conditions I've ever played golf in made for an absolutely miserable afternoon for yours truly. I apologize to Steve and Dale who had to witness the dark mood that surrounded me when all I had left in me was to "step and throw" to get it over with asap and get to the shade as quickly as I could. Evidently part of the mental game aspects I've been discussing and adapting should also include enough self-discipline to make sure that before tournament rounds I make myself get the right amount of rest and eat right.

Congrats to my new nemesis, John Hovey, who played solid all day to take his first of what I'm sure will be many ZLT10 OMB wins.

Although I had been saying I couldn't wait to see that course with all those awesome pecan trees filled in for a change (The Victoria Open is always in February), I have a little clue now why dead of summer events are not the norm in that park. :)

All in all, a great day and another great event on the best tour going. See y'all soon.

Time to start getting ready for Iowa. :)

Aug 02 2004, 12:05 PM
Baby, we're just all glad that you're okay and to hear that this won't stop you from playing.

I assure you that if I hadn't been on a three-man card, I probably wouldn't have finished round 2 myself. By the time we were done, I was amazed that I was able to walk well enough to play the last few holes since I was physically done well before that. And in retrospect, finishing was more macho stupidity, than good sense, since I was running the risk of really endangering my health.

You were not alone in your heat struggles, I promise you. We've all been there and understand. Heck, ask the Temple guys if I can relate. :)

Take care of yourself and we'll see you out on the course soon. :)

I know exactly how you felt, MarkA. The first round my hip was killing me and the second round I was just trying to find shade to throw to so I could stay out of the sun as much as possible. Had some great guys to play with on my card and helped things go easier. I was whipped before it was all over.

Wow, I'd say we endured some unusually dead South Texas heat on Saturday, not the norm in that neck of the woods. Even playing regularly in Houston's humidity did not prepare this H-town girl for the hot, hot, hot time had on those Victoria courses.

I'd like to tell Kat Bender that she shot a great second round. As for all the other ladies, Laura H., Laura Q. and Edith, it was a fun day and next time, let's try for a different time of the year! See ya'll in the cool of winter!

First off... THANK YOU RIVERSIDE DGC!!!! Fox's Bend was a great complement to the outstanding permanent course. Throw the line and you'll be fine. I think Tommy said he went through 3 sets of blades mowing out what he could back in "the Jungle". Kat and I really appreciated the work. Hopefully the City will catch on and give that dead part of the park life again with this course. Now if they can only install a breeze....

Props to the Short Arm crew from Mississippi for coming down and playing as well. Especially Kary for tearing up the Riverside course for the big win.

Huge Props to Mike Olse too. 21 freakin' down! Ride that Mo' in Iowa....

Another great event, Chris! See y'all in Dallas.

Big props to Chris for having PLENTY of COOL WATER on the course. If not we would have had a lot more problems with the heat. Thanks for taking care of my friend. And good shooting Andi, she schooled the rookie, I will get you next time :D.

I would like to second the kudos to John Hovey, who while offering encouragement threw a great first round despite the fact that I was on his card. :D

Heat aside, it was a great tournament. Thanks Chris and the Riverside crew for all your efforts. Especially on the water. I must have put down three gallons.

It was also great to finally meet you Mark. Next time don't play so well in the first round so that we can play miserably together in the second... :D
