Two great days of golf in Universal City and Live Oak this weekend. Ron Russell held a clinic Saturday for 24 golfers, then goes on to shoot -13 with his partner Suzi for the front 18 holes. Brian S. and Eric take second with -10. Sunday at UC, 25 golfers watched as Paul Kreke hit #2 with a Roc for $400! Ron shoots -9 to tie the course record, but easily could have shot -12. Ron hits the CTP for $25. Back to Live Oak for random doubles and Ron again shoots -13 for the front 18 with his partner Brian Foster. Texx Brushwood and Wayne Atkinson shoot -11 to stay close. Live Oak/UC... if you ain't here, you're there.

It was pretty cool getting to see the champ play. He shot -9 and was unhappy with his game! I love that. If your not him, your you!

I'm going. I just recently moved to Schertz from Lubbock. I think I have played one round with you Danielle. If I remember correctly it was the random draw doubles and you were on my card when we were told to start on hole 3, then as we got almost to the tee we were told to switch to hole #1. Does that ring a bell to you?

Live Oak, Universal City Wednesday Night Disc Golf Doubles League. April 30 thru September 24.

Format: 18 holes Pro/Am random draw doubles
Sign up by 5:30, tee off 5:45

Payout: cash to pros, merchandise to ams

Cost $7 per week: includes $1 for ace pot, $1 weekly CTP, and $1 to pay for trophies and awards banquet at the end of the league. If no aces during the league, their will be a drawing at the awards banquet for for two lucky persons 75/25 split.

Optional $1 mulligan with proceeds going to the Alamo Area Police and Fire Memorial. This fine charity, selected by the Live Oak City Manager, honors those who gave their lives serving our communities.

First mini Wednesday, April 30 at Live Oak and rotates back and forth between UC and LO.

Jerald, each player will sign up as pro or am and will have a scrabble letter assigned to them. I will then randomly draw scrabble letters matching a pro with an am, until I run out in either division. Then I will randomly draw and match up the rest of the folks. If two ams get paired, they get a three stroke handicap; if two pro's get paired they will get a three stroke penalty. We'll see how this plays out and I will adjust the handicap/penalty if needed. Players earn points, with pro's redeeming points for cash, and ams redeeming points for merchandise. 1 point = $1. Top three points earners in each division get trophies at the end of the season. Any player making 10 or more events will get a nice t-shirt. I'm sure we'll come up with lots of other goodies along the way. Suggestions are welcome.

James, a lot of players have asked to play the longer holes in preparation for Texas 10. So, we will probably play these: 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,26,27,28, I'll throw in two rabbit holes to make 18.

I don't beleive 23-25 will be played at Texas 10 the way they are laid out, so we'll skip them; besides it takes 45 minutes just to play those three holes, and West Wing is on tonite /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Brian, please confirm for me that the mini this Wednesday will be at UC at 5:30pm.

I will be doing some work at Live Oak mid afternoon so I will be there for the mini.

I am still finishing the map of the new 36 hole course.

While I am on it...is there anyone in the Live Oak area that can volunteer a little this Saturday for the ZT10. Things like helping set up baskets, tee signs, and spotting would all be great.

yessirree, 5:30 at Universal City. Chris, since this is for charity, you can get school kids to help out. They are always looking for community service hours, as many classes require this now. This worked great at my Ice Bowl, where I had 4 get credit for helping. I can see if I can get a couple, but you may want to contact the city manager, as he probably has great contacts for this.

Full results posted for Wednesday Night's Doubles League. 29 players! Three teams tie the UC Course league record at 45, but no one could make that extra birdie to win the course bounty. Annika, I mean Danielle shoots a solid 47 with her partner John Riley to prove she's all that and a can of frijoles! We need mas women! Ace pot up to $91 and rising fast.

yes i pulled off a win on victor and tied v for first place. i choked on a twenty footer for bird on the final hole to take v. had i of known i was in the running i would have gave it a shot.the win on victor was well overdue, now i have other locals to beat to get some respect.....great job on the weekly brian, course looks great.... plan to play it again soon...

I think if any club is formed here it should be by Brian. He's doing more by himself than most clubs ever do. I was just wondering if there was such a thing, and if there was what its name would be. I am assuming that there would be alot of opposition to anything with San Antonio in the name since that city doesn't support DG very well. That is kind of a problem though since most people know San Antonio and not many outside of this area know Universal City or Live Oak. I know I didn't before moving here. Maybe that could change. Heck, it probably will change with the way that the city of Live Oak is supporting Disc Golf right now. I'll do some research and talk with Brian about bag tags. They seem to be a growing and popular trend.

I think that tags are a good idea. Jerald I agree completely about Brian forming the club, he has done more work then anyone around here in the past couple of years (ice bowls, minis, etc..). I am in favor of a club, but I am sure there will be many obstacles to over come.

Back from Phoenix and the 117 degree heat! Sounds like we need to have a meeting away from the course to discuss a club, charter, dues, duties, responsibilities, bag tags, etc. It's easy to say, but hard to pull off. It will require a lot of support from many club members, not just one or two. Been there, done that, lost my cookies. Let me get some information together and we'll go from there.

Yes, it was in KC. Learn to putt uphill and downhill for waterworks, learn a roller for rosedale, learn to throw straight for swope, and get in shape, and wear thick socks, and drink lots of water, and get in shape! Practice the courses early if you can, and get in shape! (Not to say you're out of shape, but a week of golf is extreme, specially if you play waterworks twice!) I stayed at the holiday sin. It was a sin how crappy that place was. Find a local and stay with them.

Danielle, I also was at that Worlds in KC. It was HOT! The courses were all good with the exception of Waterworks. It was GREAT! Hole #1 is killer! I really enjoyed my week there but it was the first time in my life that I was very ready to stop playing disc golf. A week is too much, or at least it was for me. I stayed at the Comfort Inn down the street from the Holiday inn. It was a very nice place. However, I would gladly trade Brian's Holiday Inn/World Champion experience for my Comfort Inn/20th place experience!

It's the only thing I could come up with to rhyme with Round Rock. Vinnie, five strokes is a classic, though! You know I love you man.

Lago is the same day I run a mini here locally. Can't let the locals down; we have doubled mini participation over the last year, and I'm sure it's due to consistently running the tournament. $400 ace pot doesn't hurt, either. So JC, come on down!

Jerald's right, my feet were cooked hamburger after KC in 99. I think seven people died in KC that week because of the heat stroke.

Wednesday mini results are in. 22 players stay late and miss the first quarter of the Spurs kicking Net booty in game 1 of the NBA FINALS.

Mark Vargas and David McKibbon romp on everyone else with a mini record tying 45. One more stroke and they would have won the course record bounty.

Alrighty then. Sunday's $400 ace pot hit by Chris Jones, Hole #1. The backup ace pot takes over and is at $226. Won't be long before it's back up to 400 again. 26 players in all. Jerald Locke and Brian Schmidt tie for first at -6. 14 players stay over and play random doubles in 40 mph winds. Three teams tie for first at -8... Brian S./Jim Yount (BJ), Jeff Hellman/Dan Sears(JD), Shawn Hess/Alex Downs (AS). After 5 playoff holes, the old men , team BJ, whips the youngsters! Spurs win too!

i got one from them when i was moving out here to arizona from florida as we were stopping there on the drive...it was VERY helpful and FREE!

Looking for a place to stay for the Live Oak Summer Open on July 26 & 27.
I have checked the two major hotels but was wondering if there are any campgrounds with cabins or anything like that. Someplace cool that can hold 2 couples. If any of you locals know anyplace besides the La Quinta and the Clarion please let me know.

yea.... me and amy are going to the ZT10... it took me a while to get the money situation back in order...after all one of my so called "tex"as friends jipped me for about 200$ so i had to recover from that mishap. now i am able to play more golf and have more fun with ppl that care about the sport and dont wanna trash ppl....i wouldnt know anyone from l/o that would do that!!

I have talked with a few people about doing bag tags for this area/group. Unfortunately, unless we just want strictly numbers on tags we need to decide on a name or something. I heard through the grapevine a very cool name. The Alamo City Disc Club or AC/DC. Any thoughts or suggestions? Another question to the masses, should we just do this for fun and exactly what the tags cost? Or would we rather add a few bucks to the cost with the hopes of raising enough to buy a new basket and replace one of the less standard ones in UC? I have posted stuff like this here before with no response. Does that mean no interest?

I suggest you collect a little extra money, enought to have a basket to insure replacement if a basket in town comes up missing.

I like AC-DC. Although the Live Oak/UC area is technically not in the "Alamo City", I think we can all aspire to the ideals the 13 day battle at the Alamo represented... freedom from repression, gritty determination, sacrifice for the greater good, and Victory or Death!

Besides, the Alamo is just two blocks from my office! Let's do it!

Brian, since you put the course in UC, what do you think we should do with the money? Any ideas or thoughts on things that need to be done? On another possibly related topic, I went to Pickerel park in Schertz for the first time on the 4th. It could be a sweet course. Has anyone talked with them? If that could be accomplished it would make three cool courses just 10 or so miles apart. WORLDS 2007!!!! (just kidding!!!!!)

At both courses, we need a bulletin board that is accessible to us to post upcoming events and mini results, have course maps and scores cards available, etc. Live Oak's bulletin board is locked and inaccessible.

Live Oak takes care of the baskets there but in UC that is our responsibility. Several need to be replaced.

Call the Schertz City Manager and set up a meeting. I'll be there with a tie on.

Wednesday Pro/Am doubles league weekly results are in. Due to wet conditions at Live Oak, the back layout was played excluding the monster holes 23-25. 22 players enjoyed sometime sunny, sometimes sprinkles on a lush green course. We establshed a new course record at 47. A team that beats any of the league course records gets a $20 bounty. Anyone who beats the Universal City Sunday singles record of 45 takes home an additonal $25.

P.S. I nearly roller aced hole 14!
