All of you South Texas Disc Golf Association players, don't forget to be at Live Oak today at 6 to meet the Cibolo people and make a good impression. I guess that means Dave won't be there (if we want to make a good impression). Weather permitting I'll be out there earlier to play some in case anybody wants to get it on.

Mar 03 2004, 12:44 PM
I'm working on new bag tags. On the bag tag, it will have a logo or name for Live Oak, Alamo City, New Braunfels, Gonzales and Universal City. Am I missing anyone? (Cibolo doesn't have a course yet.)

Mar 03 2004, 12:47 PM
Yes Jim, leaving David out would help make a better impression. In fact, kicking David out of the STDGA would probably bring up the curve for the whole group. :)

Mar 03 2004, 12:59 PM
Hey Beastmaster, just put me down for the #1 tag straight away :)

Can't wait until Gonzales in a few weeks.

My suggestion would be not to have course names or cities on the tags just in case one is wrong. Just have a nice logo or name.

krevo, this tournament is just for you and others that have just started. Where else would you pay 15$ and get 3 disc and as a bonus be able to be around people who play more regularly or longer and be able to learn from them. That is how I got started and I love it. The people you meet are great people and more than willing to help new comers. That is the whole purpose of this endeavor is to help and increase interest in the sport. Hope you don't let anything hold you back from meeting new people and having a super time.

Hey Dave and anyone else brave enough, I'll be at Live Oak about my usual time. I would appreciate it if someone else would come because it is for sure Dave won't be enough competition.

Mar 08 2004, 12:25 PM
Ok, I've been floating a couple of ideas on the Wed. doubles league, and so far I've received positive feedback. Locals, let me know what you think, others, go away ;)

1) Increase the ace pot to $2 per player. If we average 30 players (last year we avereaged 27), for 30 weeks, we would see about $1,800 in the ace pot. The idea is to NOT pay the ace pot till the conclusion of the league, and then split it between all acer's. Each ace gets a slice of the pie, so ace often! If it's not hit (unlikely!), we would CTP for 3 spots... 50%, 30%, 20%. Last season we had two wed. aces.

2) Increase the Pro entry fee to $10 ($6 to the payout, $2 to the ace pot, $1 for the party fund, and $1 optional for the mulligan.)

Ams would pay $8 ($4 to the payout, $2 to the ace pot, $1 to the party fund, and $1 to the optional mulligan). All mulligan proceeds would go to the course development fund at the end of the season.

Thoughts?

Well Russ and Joe at least you had the lug nuts to get out there. Great job !!! wish I could have gone!!
( he said nuts ) in a Buthead voice.

Mar 08 2004, 12:52 PM
Brian, I have an idea. On the CTP, mabey the person who was the furthest out get a chance to make his putt, if he dose he splits the pot with the winner. ( that way I may have a chance at some monies ) But your other ideas or changes sound good. Questions. When an ace is hit on the Wednesday mini does the team split the ace pot ? and if so will both the players on that team get to run at the CTP if no one hits all year ?

jimbo1944
Mar 08 2004, 12:59 PM
Sounds good to me from an AM's point of view, just wouldn't want to cut back on the number of Pros because of an increase in cost. What about it pros? Give him some feedback. See you on the course.

Mar 08 2004, 01:02 PM
Bill, aces do not have to be split with your partner, that's up to you. That split has to be agreed to up front. Even if you have an agreement, the only one shooting the CTP at the end would be the person who hit the ace. If you want to split it with someone, that's up to you and your conscience.

I like your idea on the furthest out, but the problem as I see it is that it would take extra time to first determine who is furthest out particularly if two are close... you'd have to measure, step it off, etc. We have a limited amount of daylight on Wed's, particularly at the end of the league, so anything to delay the tee off, I'd be against.

Good questions Bill. I had a feeling you were a deep thought type person. Enjoyed playing disc golf on the same card Sunday. I had to be careful how I word these things cause Dave will try to turn it another way. (Like if I had just said I enjoyed playing with you Sunday, you know how his mind works)

Mar 08 2004, 01:08 PM
JB, I talked to at least 6 on Sunday, most if not all of them do not read this forum, and all of them liked the idea... Big Bird, Larry, Shawn, Tracy, etc. I doubt you'd get much pro response on here, maybe RT, James and Mark V. The pro entry fee going up is probably a done deal, we just need to decide on: 1, do we raise the ace pot to $2, and 2, do we delay the payout to make each ace equal in value.

jimbo1944
Mar 08 2004, 01:12 PM
I know none of our guys would do it, but the last person up might try to throw away to have a chance at a putt to get some of the pot. I also have a feeling that with the players we have, we won't have to do a ctp at the end.

Ok, the rumour is true, we are going to lose holes 5-9 in Red Horse Park due to citizen complaints. They complained about the damage all the ams are inflicting on the trees ;)

On the bright side, we get to design 6 new holes in the nature preserve that is just down the dirt road after hole 12. So we'll have 19 when we're done, and though they may not be as manicured as the Red Horse park holes, they should be longer and more challenging.

All this will be done in the next couple of months. Stay tuned.

Frost...real disc golfers in Austin don't play Zilker. It's nothing more than a family pitch and putt course. It's too crowded (because of it's central location, only 9 holes, and it's ease of play), and the players out there are true rec players.

Circle C is a different story. Not as cute and manicured as your courses in North SA...think holes #23 and #25 on Live Oak...now imagine two 18 hole courses with 36 comparable holes...except for bigger elevation, bigger and more trees, and much, much longer holes.

Yeah, it's worth the drive. Just bring plenty of water.

Circle C is 36 holes??

Thats the only course in Austin, that i havent played....

How long till we have 36 in Live Oak?

Mar 10 2004, 10:15 AM
I'm guessing that Rooster made that oh so common "circle" mistake. He probably meant R not C. C is 18, R is, well, you know. :)

Yes Circle C is worth the drive, all 18 holes. :)

Like all City of Austin park courses, its kinda trashed from time to time, but the holes are cool and the course is definitely fun. Years of massive play and PARD apathy, do take their toll on CofA courses, but for the most part Circle C, Seawright (yeah, I know its short), Pease and Bartholomew are all worth the drive from Live Oak to play. At least come play 'em once and see what you think. Then you can get on here and tell US if they're worth the drive. :)

Oh, and Circle R's two 18-hole championship courses are so worth the drive its silly. Rolling Meadows is one of the greatest courses I've played anywhere, and Circ Hill is tough and taxing. You owe it to yourself to go.

As for Live Oak, heck, why leave? Its worth the drive from anywhere in the state. I've never been too big of a UC guy, although its good to have another course in that area, but Live Oak is the freakin' bomb, yo. :)

Mar 10 2004, 11:58 AM
I agree with Atwood, Why drive any where else Live Oak has 30 holes of just about every shot you can think of!!!!!

Bag Tags - Rules of Play

1) Any player may challenge another player in a singles match.

2) It is called a bag tag for a reason, KEEP IT ON YOUR BAG and readily available for challenges. Make and accept as many challenges as possible.

3) It is MANDATORY to accept challenges on the card at any organized singles tournament. This includes all club weekly/mini tournaments, as well as one or two day tournaments. It is not required that the tournament be sanctioned. It is not mandatory to accept a challenge from another card, unless there is no tag on your card to challenge, then that player must accept the first side challenge from another card. You are allowed only one side challenge from another card.

4) All challenges on your card have priority over any side challenges from another card.

Example: Big Bird (#5) and Mean Nellie (#14) are on the same card and challenging each other. Mean Nellie also has a side challenge with Jimbo (#33), who is on another card. Big Bird (#5) shoots a 51, and Mean Nellie (#14) shoots a 50. Big Bird loses that challenge and swaps tags with Mean Nellie. Mean Nellie, now #5 can settle her challenge with Jimbo. Jimbo shoots a 49, wow! So Jimbo wins the #5 tag from Mean Nellie and she now has the #33 tag.

5) The top three 2004" bag tags will be distributed to the top three finishers with 2003" bag tags at the Gonzales Open on March 27, 2004. All other tags will be sold first come, first served at $10 per tag immediately following the Gonzales Open. The top three finishers at the Gonzales Open will also receive a special award. Note: Because I took this over midstream, I was not prepared monetarily to give out awards beyond the top three Brian. For 2004, the top 10 bag tag owners who make it to the final bag tag challenge... the 2005 Live Oak Ice Bowl, will receive a special award, and the right to purchase the top 10 tags for 2005.
