Humm,,,,, WE"ll find OUT.... Let's see how things pan out
I am out of town and posting on a very slow machine, so please forgive any spelling mistakes...
To me it sounds like 36 holes would be much more fun. So, we would need 8 baskets correct??? To pull 36 holes off, I need a local that knows the extra holes to step up and commit to helping me mark them Saturday morning before doubles. Shoot me an email if you are game for the task :)
[email protected] I am out of town through Sunday, so don't expect a fast reply :) If we find someone, I'll start taking firm commitments from people who can bring baskets.
Anyone have an opinion on how many holes we should play for doubles on Saturday? All 28??? :eek: :D
Gimp, 28 holes would take 3-4 hours to play, keep doubles to 18! The backside of the course can be brutal, and 23-25 takes 45 minutes to play by themselves.
As to the 36, it depends on the layout you want. If you split the course into the same format as LOSO, the format is:
Lake course: 1,2,A,B,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,14,15,27,28
City Hall course: 16,17,A,B,18,19,20,21,22,23,C,D,E,F,24,25,26
(I'm missing one here that I can't think of)
So you may need 9 baskets.
If you're expecting less than 105 players, the easiest way is to just lay out a 21 hole format you play twice. No baskets or dirt tee boxes required.
If I can make it, I'll help you lay it out, or I'm sure RT will step up if he can.

Nope, no aces. Mark came in first in open with a -5. Woo Hoo! pays to play.
A new course has opened up in Gonzales, and several of us are getting together to play it New Years Day. If you want to follow someone, meet us at 10 am Thursday at IH 10 and 46. There is a Jack-in-the box there. Otherwise, meet us at the course and we'll start around 10:45-11am. Maybe do random draw doubles if enough show up. So far we have about 8-10 coming.
If you can't make Gonzales, Texx is running a safari mini at Universal City. Starts at noon New Years Day.
Everyone should play disc golf on the first day of the year, it gets your mind right!

will there be a cap on the field? Just wondering if titledisc needs to be involved or not. What is the headcount as of now?
You can register on titledisc.com for a few more days. Head count is low, most of the registrations will be at the park, which I expected. No cap on the field, but I only have 100 players packages, so the first 100 get a disc and a mini, and something special from Circle "R". We had 92 players last year, and it would be nice if we get close to that number. Weather is supposed to be sunny and 64 on Saturday.

The Neighborhood Resource Center is our charity, and they are not a food bank. But the City Manager assures me any canned foods that are donated will make their way to the local food bank.

Glad to see all the chatter on this lil' 'ol Ice Bowl. Just got word we will have Chili and burgers for lunch from the Texas Roadhouse for a $5 donation per plate to the charity.
Also, we'll have the Lion's club selling coffee and breakfast tacos at the pool house Saturday morning, so no need to stop on the way to the event.
Got quite a few last minute sponsorships, so the charity should make out nicely. Thanks everyone!
Did I mention the ching basket and cool disc golf clock we'll have as part of the raffle. No limit on the number of chances you can purchase :cool:

hey Brian what is thebest score you know of for holes 10-28??? I shot -5 at the TX10 last year :D
Wow, -5 is a good score. I can think of a few -10s in doubles, and maybe a -7 in singles. The perfect round would be -12:
10 - 2
11 - 2
12 - 2
14 - 2
15 - 3
16 - 2
17 - 3
18 - 3
19 - 2
20 - 2
21 - 2
22 - 2
23 - 3
24 - 3
25 - 3
26 - 2
27 - 2
28 - 2
So -12 would be about as good as it gets! Anything under par is actually pretty good.

I played all 28 holes today and only shot a -8. I was only -2 on the front 9. However I did hit a Hole in One on hole #21. :)

Are we playing hole 13? I noticed in Beastmaster's post that he did not mention 13. Playing today at 3:30 at Live Oak. Meet at 28's basket. Bunch "o" us.
Skipping hole 13, it crosses 14's fairway.

how many holes are we playing tomorrow? 28? 36? One round? two rounds?
2 rounds: round 1 play 10-28, skip 13. round 2 play 3 disc ace race. Same holes, 10-28, but shortened to 100-125' in length. Throw three discs in rotation. If you hit an ace, you get a share of the ace pot and you score a 1 for that hole. If you hit basket and above, you score a 2 for that hole. If you miss with all three discs, score a 4. Add the two rounds together and voila you have your total score.

82 players enjoy an incredibly sunny, warm day in Live Oak, Texas. 1st round the players played holes 10-28 skipping hole 13. Cris Hicks hit hole 19 for an ace to take a share in the $264 ace pot. 2nd round, we played the same holes but they were shortened to 110-150 feet. Each player threw three discs at each basket. They scored a 1 for an ace, 2 for basket and above, and four for missing completely with all three discs. 18 aces were hit during this round. So each ace paid $14. List of aces hit will be posted later when I find it.
Still counting, but we raised over $3,000. This was due in large part to our sponsors... Southwest Exteriors donated $1,000! Full sponsor list will be posted later when I find it.
We are looking forward to next year, and our charity the Neighborhood Resource Center thanks all of you, and especially those of you who kicked in a little extra with your entry fee.

On another note, I want to thank Al "Speedy" Guerrero for traveling all the way from Atlanta just to play in our Ice Bowl ;) (Actually, he has family here!)
I also want to thank our two ladies for competing.... Des Reading stepped up and played in Open Men, and Danielle stepped up and player in Intermediate Men. I had a women's division, but it sure is hard getting the ladies enough competition of their own gender. Thank you!!!!
Also, due to popular demand, and outright criticism, I will have a Pro Master division next year. Yes, it dilutes the Open division, and yes, it's just an Ice Bowl for charity, but now that we are getting so many open players, it makes sense to do it. Remember, we were used to having just a few am's show up to play, so I didn't want to spend the money on trophies for divisions that wouldn't show. Now were getting the numbers to warrant it.
Well, nobody aced at bass, so $560 or so dollars will be carried over, and built up severely Sunday, I would wager $800+ will be the amount everyone is gunning for this Sunday.

I noticed there was added dirt around 6, 7, and 8's basket. I am not sure how that is going to work out with the rain. Hopefully not to muddy. I wish we knew what holes we were playing.

its gonna depend on condition, and local recommendations....we are thinking 1-12 skip 13 and pick 5 from the backside, that flow well, and will end up on 28.
Of course, thats tentative, and nt form the TD. :p

I can tell you know 10-13 are usually under water if we get alot of rain. Better to pick more holes on the back side instead of the front. MHO

The holes that are effected are 1,2,6,7,8,9. Not 10-13 usually. It gets muddy but no water swallows up the holes. Going to the back helps but we lose a lot of ace holes. The lake was pretty low to begin with but I am pretty sure the front holes are lost. all we can do is wait.

Yup Yup....was good to see you too RT, I have the same feeling about that second round too.....i let the pressure get to me, and it showed on the last 5-6 holes....back to back 5's killed the lead i had acquired, and ended up losing by 1 stroke...
Was amazing how smooth everything went, despite the frigid wind.
You guys are BLESSED with a municipality, that knows how to take care of business, and Discgolfers.

The Champion Orc is essentially a Beast with more stability for big arm throwers. Thrown flat and hard it will go straight for a long way. It will fight a headwind well. Fade: +2
Speed(1-10) is how quickly a disc cuts through the air, where 10 is the fastest.
Glide(1-7) is how much "carry" or "float" a disc has where 7 is the most.
The flight of the disc is broken into two phases and rated individually.
High Speed Turn is the first part and is rated from -3 (most understable) to +1 (most overstable).
Fade is the end of the flight and it is rated from 0 (stable) to +3 (overstable).

Michaela and I are going to Houston to see RENT on March 13 and I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to stay in the area of Jones Hall and possibly a good course near by for Sunday morning. Thanks Danielle, I will look at that, but don't you have to take the hotel that takes the bid? I think we want to stay near the Hall, so we will see.
Jones hall is downtown, so a downtown hotel would be closest, yet pricey. Avoid the Galleria area for the same reson.
If you find a reasonably priced downtown one, go for it, as they have done a buttload of renovations downtown, and there is a ton of nightlife nowadays.

Oh, and James....closest course, woudl be Jim Mazola memorial, AKA Buffalo Bayou course....at the sabine street bridge, between Memorial, and Allen Parkway.

When we went there we asked some locs where a good place to eat was, and they said " no where in gonzales" so we ran althe way down to Shiner to eat. Good place too. I think it was called Homeplate. Good food and cheap.And alot of COLD SHINER!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Hey Van, there is an awesome BBQ joint in Gonzales, that I thought was almost worth the drive even if there wasn't a disc golf course there. In fact, its on the main street that runs past the old county jail (now a pretty cool museum and chamber of commerce office) and past the fire station. Can't remember the name of the place or the street, but is a family owned and operated little joint just off the main square. Get the sausage, omg! Definitely the place to eat in Gonzales, unless you're on a vegan diet. Of course, the beans are outta this world too so you can't go wrong. :)
