GCCS MACGREGOR AND GCCS BASS FINALE REMINDERS

Dont forget the MacGregor GCCS is coming up this weekend (Feb. 8th) and the Finale is the weekend after that at Bass (Feb. 15th). Things have been VERY hectic in Team Disaster Land, so I will try to keep this brief (yea right lol). The Bass and Live Oak reports are below...

GCCS MINI GOLF COURSE AT THE FINALE!!!

I just ordered Team Disaster little fliers that will be available for the MacGregor stop. Two different designs!!! Don't forget we will have mini golf again at the Finale (we are thinking of doing two different courses - one a day). We will also have the mini baskets that we are using available in payout at the Finale ($60 each). For those of you that have never played mini golf it is an absolute BLAST!

NEW STOCK FROM INNOVA AND DISCRAFT

We will have the new Limited Edition, Elite-Z Crush 2.0 (Maximum distance driver with a domey top and added stability. Get more control on your golf shots with this driver. Very cool!!) and the new Limited Edition, CryZtal Challenger (Since introducing the Challenger in 2003 it has become one of Discraft's most popular putters. This version of the Challenger is in a special blend of Elite-Z plastic that we call CryZtal for its extremely clear look. These discs are sure to turn heads in 2004.) There will also be a fresh batch of Z Wildcats, Z Crushes, and Z Wasps.

Innova wise we will have the new Orc (faster Beast) and the Champion Rhino. We will also have a fresh batch of X out discs that will be a GREAT deal. Hope to see you all out there. Don't forget that we will have an AM players pack at both of these events. MacGregor will be your choice of a Z Buzz or a Swirl (first come first served) and the Finale will be the SWEET NEW CRUSH 2.0!!!

$$BIG MONEY DOUBLES$$

Remember we have flex start $$Big Money Doubles$$ the Saturday before each event, and you ALWAYS get to pick your winnings at Team Disaster
Events. For more details, please visit www.teamdisasterdiscgolf.com (http://www.teamdisasterdiscgolf.com) .

BASS REPORT

We had a nice turnout and a GREAT weekend for golf out at Bass. Lee DeForke posted his 1st sanctioned pro victory with a 114. Way to go Lee! Andi Lehmann won Womens Pro with a 133.

The best score in the AM divisions was posted by Matt Hall with a 110, two strokes over Kalan Ickes. Jake Walsdorf took the Adv. Masters division by 7 with a smoking two round total of 113.

In Intermediate, Scott Rozanski won for the 2nd weekend in a row with a 116 by one stroke over Jason Wynne and 2 strokes over MA2 State Champ Tony Bender. The Recreational division was won by Jeremy Youngblood by 4 (122) over Daniel Showman.

Edith Horrell took a one stroke victory (139) over Mandee Coleman and two stokes over DeAtra Edwards in a VERY competitive Womens Advanced division. It will be interesting to see how this battle shakes out at the Finale! Wylie Rogers won the Junior division with some very nice scores as well.

Congratulations to all the winners!

LIVE OAK REPORT

In some cold VERY windy conditions, Team Disaster introduced a ton of new golfers to the GCCS. We had a GREAT pro turnout and some excellent scores posted for the conditions. We played a modified 21 hole format during the 1st round and intended to play some of the harder holes during the 2nd round but the conditions did not allow for the change. A HUGE thank you goes out to all the players and the City - - THANKS!

Jerry Perez took the Open division on the first playoff hole over Judah Moser (116) for his 1st sanctioned pro victory. Apparently this contest went back and forth for the entire final round. Jerrys 2nd round 56 to catch up came out to be a SMOKING estimated rating of 1022. GREAT SKOOTING JERRY!!! I need to get with you and give you your trophy disc!

Rob Engle made the trip over from Houston to win his first B-tier in a very competitive Advanced Division by one (128) over Dale Hemmeline. Rickey Wright took the Advanced Masters division with a 133 and Todd Woody came back to win Intermediate (133) over John Conger by one. Todds 65 was the best 2nd round in the division by 4 strokes.

Joe Herndon (139) came from three behind to win the Recreational division by 4 with a smoking 67 and Danielle Vargas destroyed the Womens Advanced field on her home course by 13 by shooting back to back 71s. Her average estimated round ratings came out to just under 900 which is AWSOME shooting. DeAtra and Kat want you to come over so they can try to get some revenge away from the friendly confines Live Oak. GREAT SHOOTING DANIELLE!!!!!

I hope to see some of you over in Houston for the next two events. Thanks again for coming out.

...if it was Sat event I would be there, but Sun I have to be in town.

Gimp/Cong -- I'm a huge fan of the one day tournament, and a big fan of the GCCS tournaments...but I've often wondered too why these events aren't held on Saturdays?

Sunday is not the best travel day, and may disuade people from traveling to an out of town tourney..even if it is only one day. It just seems like more people might consider a one-day event if were on a Saturday (sure hasn't hurt another little One-Day Texas tournament series...

I'll keep coming to the events...but as none of them are in Austin...I have to travel out-of-town for all of them...and it would be much easier to do on a Saturday...

Feb 06 2004, 03:14 AM
Bummer that you can't make either D :(

Have any suggestions on what course to play in Austin Rooster? Waco did not work, but that might have been a bad time to have it (1st event of the series / A-tier in Okl.) Thinking of going toward Austin since Live Oak went well (of course we would hit Live Oak 2). Are there any options besides RR (not that I would not like to have a GCCS at the Rock) in the Austin area? The parks department is VERY hard to work with I hear, and the $5 ranch fee might be a little much for people at Circle R...

As far as Satudays go, it is a long story. Ask me next time you see me :)

You never know, it could change

Feb 06 2004, 09:49 AM
Gimp

Ive heard the horror stories about dealing with the Austin Parks and Rec. Dept.
Which is too bad, because Austins a great disc golf city, and would be a great place for a GCCS event.

I think an event at Pease Park would be ideal, but Round Rock seems like the best possibility, and its a tried and tested tournament-caliber course. A Round Rock event would draw players from Austin, Temple, and Waco hopefully Houston and maybe San Antonio.

Ill provide the free accommodations for the TDs too, if you decide to ever have an event here.

vinnie
Feb 06 2004, 09:54 AM
Heck we might even help with that.
ROUND ROCK!

Nelle 18131
Feb 06 2004, 11:10 AM
San Antonio people would definitely go to Round Rock! We would much rather have a Live Oak X2 though. I like it when TD's don't forget South Texas. You would think that the one TD from down under would not forget the courses down here.

ozdisc
Feb 06 2004, 11:27 AM
What do you mean Danielle? I have been running events in Live Oak for 3 years. Bringing 150 players to a course each year for an event is not a small task. This year I will be doing a Texas 10 at Live Oak, the Live Oak Open, the Gonzales Open, Victoria Open,
Corpus Christi Open, and who knows what I will do with those other new courses planned just north of Live Oak. San Marcos would also happen if the college would work better with people.

See you Sunday at UC. An event would happen there as well except for the city wanting too much money.

Feb 06 2004, 11:57 AM
I don't think South Texas is forgotten, we just get jealous of all the events up north :D

Nelle 18131
Feb 06 2004, 12:07 PM
Just like John said, jealous of the events up north. Lewisville, Dallas, Wichita falls, lewisville. So far away. I am just jealous. I want them all to be in my back yard.

slowmo_1
Feb 06 2004, 12:17 PM
Pease park would be a blast but might be tough to get considering all teh traffic it sees. Very fun course though.

Feb 06 2004, 01:11 PM
Pretty much ALL Austin courses are out of the question, at least that is my understanding. This leaves, RR and Circle R and....??????

Universal City near San. Ant. will not let you sell plastic or maybe even take entry fees. Gonsales (sp?) interests me, but I have not even played it.

Snow farm???

Victoria would ROCK, but that just does not seem like a course that can support three events in a year....

Feb 06 2004, 01:20 PM
Gimp, Im mentlaly working on a set of courses for our tour next year.....(been getting alot of feedback every event)

Ill talk with you this weekend.......

Feb 06 2004, 01:43 PM
Gimp- Gonzalez is awsome! You need to get out there and play it. It's like seawright with grass. There city people are totally on board with the disc thang. I think Brian Schmidt has the 1st ace ever made on that course, so sorry it's already been Christened, but if he can make one any one can. ha! ha! :D:D

Nelle 18131
Feb 06 2004, 03:26 PM
Gonzales is very nice. It does not have mud and trash all over like Searight though. A good spot for the H-Town, Austin and San Antonio people to come. Small town atmosphere. I am sure Chris Himing and others can tell you how it is from a TD's perspective.

Feb 06 2004, 05:27 PM
Gonzales

Plusses: good course, some long holes, clean, big trees, cart-friendly, great BBQ joint, all baskets are the same type, concrete tee boxes, short and long tee boxes on long holes, player-friendly city

Minuses: no trash recepticles, no benches, no pavillion, very little parking, a couple of close fairways that might cause some backups, a couple of dumb holes, really rough concrete on some boxes, 80 miles from my house

spartan
Feb 06 2004, 05:48 PM

rtinsa
Feb 11 2004, 11:09 PM
We'll Kid_roc that's kinda hard to say.. I'm thinkin when i get the spirit broken in pretty good.. It's possible.. Right now , Getting 400-425 with my starfire's and crush.. So will see partner.. Are you playing in the Victoria Open?
What's your farthest driver?

dannyreeves
Feb 11 2004, 11:13 PM
I don't think that I will be able to make it to Victoria, but you never know. I have been known to change my mind on the Friday before. lol

Farthest driver is the Orc. Just started throwing it (check the Orc thread). I am trying to get to know it. I may not throw it this weekend because I can always throw 425-450 with my TLs.

Sorry to say, but I doubt that the Spirit will be able to beat the Orc, for me anyways.

Feb 13 2004, 02:50 PM
Ok, we've had a hard time coming up with a club name. Yes AC/DC rocks, and LOCO is crazy cool, but they just don't represent who we are. The South Texas Disc Golf Alliance (or club)would represent Live Oak, San Antonio, Pipe Creek, New Braunfels, Gonzales, Universal City, Cibolo (courses coming soon), and Schertz (when it gets a course.)

Give me your thoughts, brethren and sisteren.

jimbo1944
Feb 13 2004, 03:46 PM
Alliance sounds impressive. Club is good. Let's get it going and see what we can accomplish for disc golf in the area. I'm sorry if I hurt anyones feelings, but anything is better than AC/DC. I feel like I have to watch my back(side) when I hear that and listen to the other clubs snickering behind our backs.
Let's set something up and make some decisions and appoint some officers. GO FOR IT!!!!

jimbo1944
Feb 13 2004, 04:09 PM
To continue the thought, maybe club would be better. Those from other areas without any organization could still be a part of our club and then as things grow in their area they can branch out and start their own club based around their home course and then in the future have representatives from each club meet to form an alliance to do even more to help spread disc golf. I just see a club as more based around a particular home course such as Live Oak, but not to exclude anyone in the nearby surrounding area that would like to be a part of it. I see an alliance as something bigger like as if we would go together with Round Rock or Lago Vista or anyother area to sponsor or put on something bogger. Just my thoughts. Let's hear yours. But let's don't just do the talking, let's see some action.

jimbo1944
Feb 13 2004, 04:11 PM
For those of you that don't understand German, bogger is the same as bigger.

Nelle 18131
Feb 13 2004, 04:21 PM
Jim wants to see some action. :o I think the Alliance thing is great because we all are from different areas and some people play different courses in the area. I think it is a great idea so then everybody has an opportunity to vice there ideas and opinions. Great idea Brain, I mean Brian.

sciencet_cher
Feb 13 2004, 04:39 PM
My opinion is with the alliance. Danielle is right, we have players from too many different areas to try and start clubs per course. I also believe something like that would dilute the group effort needed to really get golf growing in Bexar county and beyond. We do have a growing talent pool and we need organization. Beastmaster has done a wonderful job, but we rely on him to much I think and that is unfair to him. I guess what I am really trying to say is that we all need to stick together and support all courses. SA is a great place to visit and therefore we should be able to get to a point of holding some big tournaments provided by a local club (many thanks to the people who do come in to provide tournaments now :D). I will shut up now.

Feb 13 2004, 04:45 PM
Mas, Mas, Mas!

Feb 13 2004, 05:12 PM
We do support the game. It's the city of San Antonio who is slackin'. If you build it they will come. Heck, Live Oak is the only local city that is on board with open arms.

sciencet_cher
Feb 13 2004, 05:18 PM
Jimbob you are right, but to expand we have to become united and show the things we as a club can bring to the table. I am extremely greatful to Live Oak for being the front runners, but we have to look at the bigger picture and that expands outside of North East Bexar County.
I just seems to me Live Oak at times tries to keep it up bottled in Live Oak City Park. I know that is most-likely not true. I don't know, maybe it was Utah.

Feb 13 2004, 05:32 PM
Furthermore, yeah think big but it's been this long and we can't even come up with a name that sticks. ;) Brain, this is your club and your never gonna make everyone happy. My opinion is to start small in your local surroundings and let people join you. You already have many members and as far as Gonzalez goes, how many local players do they really have to aline with? I know there is alot more to it just keep it simple, get it officially started and it will snowball.

Feb 13 2004, 05:34 PM
Well, Here is my 2 cents. Jimbob we are brothers and all, But I like Alliance. There are alot of golfers outside U.C and Live Oak that are in the club that need to represented. I know I am a small fish with small talent in this talent pool, but it would be nice to go to other citys and have an Alliance brother or sister based out of that course.

As far as getting Brian help I'm all for it !. Brian makes it look so easy, but I'm sure he could use so help. Brian thats me saying " if you need some help in anything let me know ? " I will help if I can. I myself would love to see this thing grow and grow and grow. ( was that 1 to many grows ) Anyway I think we should have a time and place to sound board ideas off eachother, for the growth in discgolf for this area. I know I think about alot of ideas that seem good to me but I'm sure are realy stupid when they are said out loud.

Well done rambling . I say Alliance ;) and more group effort!!

Paul Taylor
Feb 13 2004, 07:58 PM
I know I don't post very often and I am more of a lurker, but bear with me anyways.

There are some great ideas being slung around here and I am glad others, besides Brian are taking the bull by the horns. We DO need to sit down and organize if we do want to get something done. Brian has done almost all of this by himself and if we don't step up he is going to get burned out completely and then we are not going to have the experience of his wisdom to go forward, and don't forget about Keith, as an excellent source of wisdom also.

When I first got into DG there was an Alamo DGC or alliance around and I tried to find as much info about it as possible, but it was winding down because only a handful of people were doing all of the jobs. So if we are going to do this we need to make sure that everyone is on board and that not just one or two people do all the work.

As for the name, not everyone is going to agree, but the one thing that needs to happen is that when a name is decided upon that everybody stands behind it and supports it.

As for the name, here are my suggestions:
AC/DC - Alamo Community Disc Club
...but I agree with several of you in that 'club' sort of distinguishes only one or a small group of people and we are a very widely diverse group of DGer's.
South Texas Disc Golf Association
... I really don't like the word 'alliance' because to me it has a negative connotation to it. I guess I have taught to much history in school for this, but I do like the "South Texas Disc Golf" part though. Plus the fact that we do already have the Lone Star Disc Golf Alliance. But honestly alliance or association matters not...the organization is what counts.

Here's an idea...we can cannonize the organization and call it ST.DGA :D

Just my two cents or maybe a nickle this time.

CONGRADES TO ALL YOU LIVE OAK FREAKS!
What Texas needs is another STRONG club. Strong clubs make for big events. So if there is anything the R&R can do to help you all pull it together lets us know. We have experince in division. We can always wrestle this out, put a hit out, or just plain have a B.Q. and hash it out.

Feb 23 2004, 12:25 PM
We are throwing some things around right now Vinnie. Thanks for the offer to help. Our leader Brian is doing and has always done a great job here in Live Oak, UC.

We all appreciate everything you do B-Boy!

Right guys?

Feb 23 2004, 12:42 PM
I know this from experience,
A leader might not ask for help and people will always offer to help.
But people need to step up, One person can not do it all. People need to quite asking to help the leader and just plain help. Nothing wrong with a bunch of leaders.
SO GET YOUR LEAD ON :D

For the ones that are not on the disc board and are unable to hear the message. Next time I am down there point them out and I can help them understand the message. Sometimes it takes someone without ties to the issue to resolve the issue.

Feb 23 2004, 02:38 PM
Glad to have everyone back safe and sound. :) Congrats to our three winners! Great job, way to focus.

I want to thank those that went to Victoria and made my birthday even more special. Turning 60 is not something I was looking forward to, but it was a lot easier when you all made it special. Sharon and I thank you for your friendship and making it a day I won't forget. Keep them disc flying, rolling or however you can to get them to the basket. LLLLIIIVVVE OOOAK

Mar 13 - 14. Pleasure Island. Port Arthur. (90 minutes east of Houston)

All Amatuer Divisions are offered.

A great tourney on a historic course. The Locals have done a great job with the area courses and revitalized the DG scene. If you can go, you won't be disappointed.

And Vargas, that's Lake Sabine, not the Ocean. Louisiana is on the other side, not France... :)

Feb 25 2004, 02:53 PM
Van, it is March 13-14 on Pleasure Island in Port Arthur, home of the 94 AND 95 PDGA World Championships. And yes Rec players are more then welcome :)

Feb 25 2004, 02:58 PM
Bender are those lake liners and not ocean liners I saw?
That sure is a big bridge to cross that big lake.

Feb 25 2004, 03:02 PM
Actually that bridge does not cross the lake it crosses the Intercoastal Canal. You are correct though they were Ocean Liners and not lake liners or canal liners :D

Feb 25 2004, 03:21 PM
PORT ARTHUR!

Big Sailboats in the lake!!!

This is gonna be sweet.....if you arent a PRO, at PRO WORLD DOUBLES, you know where you should be that weekend...

Will anyone be at Live Oak this afternoon say around 4ish. I haven't played in so long it will seem like starting all over. So someone come on out and whip up on the old man, if you think you are man or woman enough. Ha!

Mar 01 2004, 03:23 PM
I just got back from U.C and had talked to the park guys out there and they were telling us that because of complaints coming in they will be relocateing holes 5-9 further down the creekway behind 12. we will play 1-4 and skip over to 10 and play back there whereever they end up. He did not have an exact date but said "it's in the works." Just thought y'all might want to know.

Mar 01 2004, 03:35 PM
Joe Painter wants to pass the word that on Wed Mar 3rd @ 6pm the folks from Cibilo will out on the Live Oak course to take a looksee at the who, how and whys people are playing this game. If you haven't heard yet, they are planning to build 2 yes 2 courses in their city. ( 2 18's that is ).So if you can make it out then he would appriciate your support. :) Hopefully it won't rain!
