2025 PDGA Am Worlds — Round 1 Recap

Wednesday, August 20, 2025 - 09:33

Therese Cuevas

As the temperatures quickly rose on Tuesday as the 2025 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships presented by Discraft kicked off in Columbia, Missouri, so did the action on the course.

Both the MA1 and FA1 fields feature co-leaders with the exact-same score — 11-under.

As the FA1 field attacked the scoreable but demanding track at Albert-Oakland Park, the MA1 field, particularly early in the day, scorched Harmony Bends. Both tracks turned over hot scores and an insanely tight leaderboard after the first of five rounds in Missouri.

Peyton Kohut

Therese Cuevas, who won both the Putting and Long Drive competitions over the weekend, and Peyton Kohut are tied at the top in FA1. Both carded eagles on Tuesday withe Cuevas offsetting a double bogie, her lone blemish of the day, after a 6-under start through the first five holes. Kohut had just a single bogey in her round, which checked in with a 952 rating.

They lead Brook Johnson, who had one of the two bogey-free rounds on the day, and New Zealand's Yolanda Lolohea-Pauley by one stroke. In total, seven players are within four strokes of the lead.

Vaughn Bontrager

In MA1, the double-digit frenzy started early with Micah Thompkins setting the early pace with his 11-under round, which came with a 1036 rating and was capped by the only eagle three of the day on the daunting Hole 18 at Harmony Bends.

Bradley Hendrick

Indiana's Vaughn Bontrager's only miscue was on 18 during his 11-under day and Bradley Hendrick strung together seven-straight birdies and closed with two more to join Thompkins and Hendrick at 11-under.

There's a logjam right behind then at 10-under with five players, including Noah Wetzel, who had the only eagle three on the just-as-daunting starting hole at Harmony Bends.

Actions shifts south to Jefferson City for Round 2 with FA1 taking on Joseph C. Miller and MA1 battling The Dam.
