Inaugural Global Masters Series Winners Crowned

2024 world-wide competition underway now

Featuring action every weekend all around the globe, the standings for the 2023 PDGA Global Master Series — the inaugural year of the year-long, world-wide competition — have been finalized.

There were constant changes on the leaderboard and stellar rounds throughout the 26 age-based divisions offered by the PDGA.

Bracket winners were determined by the average of the players’ best eight round ratings throughout the year in any division that they were eligible to compete in.

Here’s a quick look around the 2023 leaderboard:

  • Back-to-back PDGA Masters World Champion Joe Rovere averaged 1067 in his eight highest-rated rounds in 2023 to take down the 2023 GMS title in Pro Men 40-49. Both Rovere and Michael Johansen, who finished second, had 1080 rated rounds in 2023.

Ohn Scoggins

  • Back-to-back-to-back Masters World Champion Ohn Scoggins won the GMS title in Pro Women 40-49, with a 1015 average rating, highlighted by a 1023 round at the Tim Selinske U.S. Masters Championships, which she won for the second-straight year.
  • JohnE McCray edged Brian Schweberger by nine total points on the Pro Men 50-54 leaderboard in a battle that went back-and-forth all year.
  • Two-time World Champion Chris O’Cleary returned to action, playing the most tournaments she’s competed in since 1987 which was when she won the first of her back-to-back World Championships, won the Pro Women 60-64 division.
  • There were six competitors in the Pro Men 80-plus division, which was won by Barry Fischer. Ten men competed in the Am Men 80-plus division.

Japan’s Kuniko Yoshioka

  • There were four international winners:
    • Japan’s Atsuhito Kawasaki — Pro Men 65-69
    • Japan’s Kazuo Shirai — Pro Men 70-74
    • Finland’s Tuire Leppänen — Pro Women 70-74
    • Japan’s Kuniko Yoshioka — Am Women 60-64
  • Indiana’s Jaima Cartwright won one of the closest races of the entire series in Am Women 40-49. Just 176 points separated first and fifth.
