The PDGA Senior Committee was created to promote disc golf among Masters (40-plus) and older players, a demographic that has reached the golden moment where we can shoot our own age.

Through surveys, the Senior Committee has found that the top issue among most members is finding opportunities to compete within their own peer group.

The PDGA Senior Committee, which is responsible for developing programs and increasing awareness of disc golf for those over 50, is looking for new members from both the pro and amateur fields to serve two-year terms on the committee.

These individuals must be current PDGA members and will help the committee create, promote, and administer senior disc golf programs; increase the membership of seniors in the PDGA and the game itself; and serve as a lightning rod for ideas on the grassroots level. Special programs currently under the committee’s consideration include expanding disc golf into State and National Senior Games and developing a National Senior Tour.

Disc golf will be included in this year’s National Senior Games to be held in Cleveland, OH. While disc golf has been included in a number of state level events, this is the first inclusion for our sport in a major national event.

Competition begins on July 19 and runs through August 1. The specific dates of the disc golf competition will be July 20-21. The format will include four rounds over two days played on two courses.

Promotion to Increase Senior Participation in the Sport of Disc Golf

As previously announced, the PDGA Senior Committee, led by chairman Don Dillon, has embarked on a project to nationally reach out to encourage more members of the increasing senior population to enjoy the benefits of playing recreational and competitive disc golf. This project was divided into two parts. The first part was called the “Bottom-Up” approach where PDGA members are involved and the second part was called the “Top-Down” approach where national senior organizations are contacted and encouraged to inform their members about the benefits of disc golf.
