Wow that was some great food.
A little history for all you lurkers out there.
Back some months ago, the double R started cooking after the league round on Wednesday.
Someone brings the fire and many bring food to cook.
We play our round then enjoy DRINKS, food and some putting under the pavilion. This has blossomed into a fine time. Last night's menu consisted of pork stakes, sausage (a couple types), and shrimpkabobs. Everyone leaves by 7:30 with full bellies.
Any club that thinks all work and no play has got it all wrong.

Jan 22 2004, 11:00 AM
I'm sensing some bitterness there Larry. Call a courtesy violation or simply throw the phone on the ground, stomp on it a few times, and say "alright, lets play some golf."
Great dinner last night after the round. It's like a family gathering every Wed. at the Rock. It's become a great tradition and every week gets better. Thank you all who brought food, Ron, Cware, Keith, Ricky, and me.
If anyone out there wants to enjoy a great day of golf followed by awesome food, just come out for RockWednesdays. Theres always enough fun and food for everyone.
BTW BIG ACE POTS, too.
See yall next week. :)

james_mccaine
Jan 22 2004, 01:13 PM

Dragons,
I had a great time last night.
Awesome fun. I'm so glad to be back out on Weds.
I really like the changes to the winter course.
I really enjoyed the shrimp. Thanks Ron and Ice ...
I guess I was disappointed to learn that we weren't playing
the skins game as it was proposed and "unanimously "
accepted by the staff.
$2 = Skins finals (4 cards of $6,$4,$2,$1 skins)
$1= Party fund
$1= Ace pot
$1= basket fund
-------------------------
$5 total minimum
Card seeding is intirely based on skins total.
League runs 10 weeks with best 7 skins determining finals.
Should we go to this or should we continue with what we
did last night ?

seewhere
Jan 22 2004, 05:53 PM
yes typo that should be Red ROCK ..
Rob go ahead a pitch the $5 to these cheap BASTURDS and bring some ear plugs. :D I think we should wait until the city either okay's a need for a basket fund before we take the $$ just my thought.
thumber
Jan 22 2004, 08:53 PM
OK I will.
The basket fund is intended to show a commitment to the new holes/course. As you all probably know most of the other goups (ie soccer , airplane, ...) all purchase a great deal of equipment for their sports.
Are we any less dedicated ?
The intent of the basket fund is to help aid the growth of disc golf.
Not by donating to some tournament but by actually buying baskets and building a bigger and better course for all the park visitors to use as well as increasing the caliber of the tournaments to be held at the Rock.
We will return all donated money to the club fund, If we are denied. But we need to start to gather cash now as it will be a long process. We can't raise $5K in a short time.
Unless someone out there is willing to donate it ,,,,,
As far as the other $1 per round we are asking for that is to
go directly to the payout for the skins final. This allows
more players to play in the skins finals. These are a lot of
fun if you ever played in them before you know what I mean.
So how about it $5 for a good cause ?
rickwright
Jan 22 2004, 09:24 PM
plus side bet money? So 5 plus 4 gets pretty expensive for our little weekly fun round. I'm all for raising money but would like to look at all options before adding to our cover charge each week....I guess you don't have do the side bet, my two cents
lilbigarm
Jan 23 2004, 08:23 AM
i'm okay with five smackers. the way i putt the side bet is a waste of life anyway.
vinnie

Here's an odd tidbit. I'm outside walking and some ***** is trying to run me over. Turns out, he was no *****, but an old disc golfer named Ken May (no relation to the May mentioned above). Anyway, we start talking--"no, I don't ever play disc golf anymore, but I play some ball golf" he says. "Just last week, I was put on the tee (ball golf) with two old timers. Ken (Hambleton) and Jim (Davis)." Did you ask them why they don't play dg anymore, I ask. "Yea, they said that after you win national doubles twice, there is no real reason to continue." I laughed.
So anyways, not that this was important, or even relevant to "A faster RR thread," but just to let those who know them and never see them like me, that they are alive and well and do more than just fish and drink.
I would like to say hi to those two Putz's if anyone knows how to get ahold of them.
Oh, by the way....does anyone have a Good washing machine for sale? CHEAP?

Ware, heard you lost to an am player yesterday at Zilker! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
If he didn't shoot better than 3 under he may have lost to a couple of rec players.
Now that I think about it he might have shotten a -6 under (not totally sure though so i'll let him give you the real info on how he shot). Since he hasn't responded in his defense I would have to inform you that the int. player that shot -10 for the best score of the day with someone in Adv. Masters, was obviously bagging his *** off, and definatly needs to step up into Adv.

Ware,
I looked again from O'Conner St. and saw a couple of more enema baskets near the hike and bike trail. A sign says something like 'private property, residences and guests'.
I have spotted 6 baskets now but no tee boxes or any real fairways. Does anybody know anything about this course in Cat Hollow off of 620 and O'Connor?

Feb 02 2004, 08:13 PM
Diff. course you speak of Ed The course Jon is talking about is between Parmer and IH35 on 620 in the Cat Hollow Subd. from his descriptions. Oconner is the main street in to Cat Hollow. I know at one time Fern Bluff which is next door had a little 3 basket course. Maybe there linked somehow. Will check it out and let you know what I find out.
I have a meeting in Cat Hollow this am, will do a little checking afterwords.

seewhere
Feb 03 2004, 02:03 PM
that BITES!!!
I parked by the hike and bike trail off of O'conner yesterday. Walked around finding baskets (18 in all). Ended up on Liberty Walk. Looks like that is where #1 and 18 will be. Saw a couple of places where base has been spread for box's, but still needs much clean up of fairways. No signs. The sign there has nothing about private property of residents only. Mainly just keep your dog on a leash. Let me know if you find out who we can talk to about when this course might open. One more thing, the baskets are locked fairly well, but the sleves probably need to be re-done. They are pretty loose in the ground, not too deep as well as not enough concrete. Also, half of them are VERY tall. Looks like it will be a pretty neat course.

My condolence goes out to the Ware family. Anthony Ware (everyone knew him as SOLO) passed away Saturday from complications in a Temple hospital.
His service will be held in Copperas Cove this Tuesday. If anyone would like to attend, message me and I will give more details.
I have included the Ware family in my prayers, I ask the disc golf community to do the same.
Go in peace SOLO, keep under par in the fairways of Heaven.
