when do we get to play singles again at the rock!! ****!! i wonder what the break down is on percentage of club scheduled rounds that are dubs!! 75% maybe!! Is sundays always draw dubs?
edman
Jul 08 2005, 04:01 PM
Effy, Sunday is and always has been random draw. What sucks is we are now in our 25 week summer league of random draw, so until after time change the only organized minis are random. I thought it would be a good idea to have 15 random and 10 single weeks and combine both scores for payout. Doubles this time of year is how it has run for years and let's just say that the older members think if it broke don't fix it. I would like to see us compete for spots for paid event s to tourneys or TX team spots.
I wonder how many members will get there butts current now that the cap has been pulled off?
Let me put this out there.
I will offer myself to be on the cabinet. I think this club is great- but leaves a lot to be desired. I have been a member for several months now, and I have no idea how many members we have, who is on the cabinet, when what league starts, ends or any details about anything. This is info that should be put in the hands of members as often as it is feasible...There is just no communication to the members until it is too late. I dont mean to step on anyones toes- and I am not saying anyone is doing anything wrong- I just want it known that I will be a member for some time and would like to help make things better.

I SECOND YOUR NOMINATION JOSH!!! i ALSO AGREE ED , MIX IT UP A LITTLE!!! SOMETHING I ALWAYS SAY IS: IN ORDER FOR A PERSON OR ENTITY TO EVOLVE CHANGE MUST HAPPEN!!! STAGNATION STINKS!!! :D
$ 1000.00 on Sundays! That sounds sweet. I like the $ 420.00 for non-members also. I remember being at Veterans accidently on mini-day and to be in the ace pot it cost me something like $ 35.00 just to play the mini.
Did you guys ever recover the practice basket? If not that stinks. How is someone going to have that nearby without being discovered and beaten?
Still trying to find a date to make it back to RR. Next week is the week with Joe Joe in the Colorado Rockies. I'll have to take some plastic to bust off the side of the mountains at 12,500 feet. High of 70 and low at nights 37-40. Funny, I just packed gloves and boots last night.
My useless two cents on doubles.....in Texas you can play competitive tourneys almost every weekend of the year. In fact you could play competitive singles almost every day of the week. How often do you get to do something you love, with good friends, have a great time, doesn't cost squat, your not going to win squat but who cares about money when your having fun with friends? Have a few beverages, laugh, learn something about golf or life, teach someone something about golf or life. Right now if you asked what I'd rather do, play USDGC or play a Weds night and Sunday morning at the Rock, theres no question what the answer would be. There is no such song as "USDGC Me Amadeus"....... ;)
Hey Josh, what is that avatar I have?
dont know, i'll investigate!

$1K buck will be a sweet ace for someone.
Yes, the Rock is all about Doubles and all games are set to reward the loyal repeat
playing members ( ie. best 10 of 25 ).
The Rock is the Home of the original National Doubles and has never lost it's doubles charm. Still the best way to build loyalty that we have found. (refer to the Von Kreke inputs)
Ask not what your club can do for you
( I think a shot at $1K on Sun or $250 on Wed answers that question)
but what can you do for your club ?

the ace pot lives on .. -7 wins Jimmie and Homebrew
Gene-bigfatlimpyski, and Larry,
I caught the biggest fat mouth of my life this evening. Kleino and fished our friends 3 acre lake in his back yard and just as no one was catching anything I landed a monster on a white buzzzzzzzzzzzz bait. I knew it was big and I jumped right off the bank into the water to make sure I got it in. Boots and all! No camera, no scale, the only indicator was that it measured around 23.5 inches. from the top of my knee cap to the ground. Not real fat but just a big fish. A 7-8 pounder in Missouri is a big boy. I kept him out for about 1.5 minutes and then swam him off. The G Loomis didn't even flinch!
Are you homo's going to make me come out out of retirement and come hit that 1 big? :D

Now to just get that putt back. (yikes that area needs work).
Good to hear about Homebrew's girl making progress toward USA.

That was once sold as the greatest hole in the world.
Longest for sure and certainly one of the best designed I've ever played.
Jeff made two amazing drives to put his 2nd shot within 4 foot of the hole.
Crushed an anhyzer over the top of the creeek treeline this shot
feel in to what is sometimes the swampy area in the 4 fairway.
His second shot was straight and level like a bullet and skipped right up to
the pole. Thanks.for the ride.

disctance00
Jul 11 2005, 02:41 PM
As I understand it, nonmembers don't play for acepot cause the club is trying to get the renewals and memebership up. Too many people slacking and /or not enough new memberships. Heck it is a good idea you wanna get bounties JOIN, you wanna throw for a good size acepot JOIN. Why handout money to people who don't care one way or another about the club? BTW I did split my bounty with my partner so it isn't like I'm taking the money and running with it ;) Glad your getting back to Feather golf Rob :)
Granted, I haven't been out in awhile, but I did part with that renewal money. Sunday's is the only mini I'm going to get to play at Round Rock now.

How about it ? Vince Gene Tree etc ...
Just do it.
Shirts are cool too, a new stamp, and only $10 get em now.
From what I have seen this is the most affordable disc golf membership you can buy.
Bring your nickname and your $10 Wed.
I paid $20 to join...so it is $10 to renew?

No it is $15 for a new membership.
It is $10 to renew an exsisting membership
It is $10 for a shirt.
Gotta becareful sometimes someone might say "it's $20 with a shirt" or some such variation
on the major theme.

For those that missed it.
Good Karma leads to ACE's ::::
I knew when the wind was from the North on a summer day that it was gonna be a good round.
.
I was right.
I was puttin.
I was drivin.
It was fun.
.
On hole 5, I says, I says:
"I'll split the ace with you ,
hoping for the good karma to come.
.
Eric is in... alright.
Tom is in.. Cool
Matt he's in too.
SPLIT it is...
We all planned to help each other. The karma on the card was great.
We started playing pretty good golf.
Lots of drives started going in the right direction,
A close call for me on 9, another on 10, for both Tom and I.
Hole 11 was fun too with a few good putts.
Hole 12 we were all still thinking about throwing the big ONE, but the trees are too low.
Hole 13 was too tight and I dont think any of us quite had enough experience with a North
breeze on that hole. Heck I rolled it.
Hole 14 IS TOO LONG to ace but birdy putts are getting common.
Hole 15, I think we all knew was our best chance.
I snapped my banshee out there because the wind was straight in our face. It didnt turn at all it stood up flew straight and fell short but held the line. I told the other guys they had better throw hard cause that wind was strong.
Throw it like your trying to throw it to the lake , I said.
Matt let got the greatest hyzer with a candy red Firebird straight in to the head wind on it's way to the lake,
but the basket got in the way.
It felt like one loud voice as we all let out the yell heard round the Rock.
Matt was so cool, he immediately told us we all had our share coming.
As we got up to putt I started thinking. You know Matt did shoot that
He deserves more than we do. So I asked Eric and Tom and we all agreed
To offer Matt $25 to bring his total to $200 and we still each get a C note.
He once again was super gracious and thinks about it then says
I say we give the other $100 to the club.
Wow what a great idea. Soothe all those who were worried about
putting in so much for so long only to have it taken by only one player.
I hope he has set a precedent that continues when the next ACE goes down.
Thanks Matt, Eric, Tom for a truly GREAT round that this old timer considers among the best ever.
Nice Shot Matt!

Jul 18 2005, 01:31 PM
Moving 3 and 4 back to the original positions? Is that what you are talking about?
While I got time between rule arguments and Astro pep rallys, I will offer you a suggestion, even though I know you don't give a chit bout my suggestions. :p
On #4, how about a mando or some way of forcing people to play the final bit between the trees and the lake. Otherwise, everyone just plays to the right with a bunch of big hyzers, it takes the lake out of play and becomes too Warefriendly. :D
bigbadude
Jul 18 2005, 01:40 PM

Jul 18 2005, 02:32 PM
I assume you are also going to move the box back to the right.
OTW you need a mando so no one just throws right back up #3 fairway.
The current tee box is difficult to keep level anyway.
About the forced inside route:
I would say no mando or OB. Let 'em go wild.
I think a good golf hole needs to offer two routes.
The higher risk route (inside) should result in a higher reward (my arm doesnt hurt as much).
The safer route would be outside but it is farter to throw.
Pin placement is critical.
Who will be the next waterboy ?
Hole #9 : yes please make it longer. move pin back not tee.
Sure wish we could make #5 more interesting.... any ideas.
james_mccaine
Jul 18 2005, 03:17 PM
I assumed that the #4 box would move across the creek and #3 would be near present 4's box. Vinnie, I don't have a picture in my mind of the exact lay of the sidewalk, but it sounds good. Does the path run along the treeline? and if so, close to the treeline? In other words, if people still choose to play the hyzer over the sidewalk and skip through the trees, is there a risk that they would hit the trees and be OB.
Thumber, without some incentive to go along the lake, the high risk route will never be played. Everyone will just throw wide open bombs until it is time to skip one under the trees. Back before people started to play off to the right, hole 4 at the Rock was one of the best holes I ever played. It still has great potential to be a classic disc golf hole.
seewhere
Jul 18 2005, 03:35 PM
WAIT WAIT. we cannot be designing holes and try to keep certain players from using their skills. If you got the big hyzer than use it. I say its BS. the inside route favors players who throw straight (but not far)now how fare is that. WANKERS
james_mccaine
Jul 18 2005, 03:52 PM

It was just a suggestion. Besides Chris, all the other holes out there will still be designed for innacurate crushers. :p ;) :D

BRING IT OLD MAN!!!
thumber
Jul 18 2005, 04:14 PM
Far more players played the inside route than you might think on the old hole.
Chris is right . Please don't design a course or even a hole to eliminate
a shot. Design holes that make as many options as possible.
Besides if you want to eliminate the crushers advantage then change hole #5.
There is only one way to play that boring hole. Throw very far.
seewhere
Jul 18 2005, 04:16 PM
you mean there is only one way to ROLL that hole. I would like to see holes where the ROLLER is not legal. how do we take the roller advantage away since we are looking at ways to remove hyzers.

james_mccaine
Jul 18 2005, 04:24 PM
Ditches.
Thumber, I used to be one that took the lake route, but after awhile, no sensible person was ever near the lake, unless their last shot skipped though the trees; and that was basically the end to that great hole. Instead of being this great hole where placement and distance were needed, it became just rip it with no worries.
Anyways, sorry to stir this up. It's really not my business.

Sunday acepot is $1K.
There is a second acepot started
BUT that being said do be aware that the ace pot is SPLIT on Sundays.
$1K / 2 = $500 . OK Larry / Jerry.
Just back from a sweet vacation. Klein and I hooked up with Mr. Joey Harrell in Colorado and camped HIGH up in the mountains for seven days. Four nights at 9400' elevation and then we bumped it up to 12075' for three nights. Wow. I wish I could post the pictures. Critters we saw: about 200 Elk, mule deer (two monsters and 15 does), antelope, marmot, etc. We rang up about four different kinds of trout. Cuthroats, rainbow, brown and speckled. No bears thankfully but the S&W 40 was ready! Some serious 4 wheelin' through snowy pass and engineers pass. From Creede to Silverton. That took about 7 hours to go 52 miles. Played in the snow. I even serious fly fished for the first time. Note I did not say caught because think the trout were on to my splashing around with the fly rod.
Good to see everyone is doing well. AWESOME on the concrete Vince. You guys are definitely going to want longer than 10'.

moving #9 and #4

Jul 26 2005, 06:18 PM
I will try and make it.
also how will this effect the current league scores?
vinnie
Jul 26 2005, 06:46 PM
it will make the course play like 1 stroke harder. But it not like its adding a hole. What it will do is correct the easy bounty on #4 and the all giving ace hole will be not so all giving.
moving 4 to the old placement will definitly ada stroke to most rounds.
where is 9 moving to?
sorry I cant be there today!

# 9 is back 60ft and a little to the right . you ACE this hole now you earned it. # 4 is going to be brutal if we have a head cross wind but should bring back some GREAT memories I will be out a little early to try and clean up 9 a little more. cant wait to play the old/new # 4 today

Thanks to Ware, Goblin, and Edman for helping out.
Moving them baskets was no joke.
My back is still stiff.
We also moved the Tee sign for #4.
A little clean up # 9 and its a done deal.
I hope to play tonight...but this back may have me sidelined drinking beer and watching the sun set :D
Thanks for stepping up fella's!!
V- you are pretty old :D- you dont want to hurt that back anymore then you already might have..plus your avg. aint going no where. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

thursday will be the day I can help ;)
When are you all planning to pour the concrete?
so Jerry asked when "YOU" are planning on pouring concrete, not when are we gonna pour.
Guys, concrete tee pads are an awsome idea and knowing a bit about concrete might I make a few suggestions and offer my expertice.
I would hate to see good intentions and hard labor misdirected and the course end up with something that was close to what you had in mind as I have seen happen too often around the area.
Get a Bobcat to level the area before you set up the forms leaving the pads with drainage and not two feet above ground; something is not always better that nothing in this case.
this way the pads will use less concrete, the forms would be a breeze to set up and the pads will be relatively free from mud when it rains.
I'd be happy to provide tools and help to place the mud also.
Let me know something because unlike some old men I ain't skeered of a little concrete.
And what's all this talk about being Fishermen? As long as I've know any of you Dragons I ain't seen picture one of "the Big One"
