Holly Finley was among the first players to start a new chapter of PDGA Majors when she teed off on Thursday during the inaugural PDGA Champions Cup presented by Bushnell.
She’ll be one of the last to tee off during round two.
Finley set the early pace at W.R. Jackson at the International Disc Golf Center with a 4-under to open the debut of the PDGA’s new Major, a score which held on the rest of the day on Thursday.

The course is primed. The field is stacked. The pressure is amplified.
It’s time to crown a PDGA Major champion.
For the first time since 2019, elite professional disc golf returns to the revered W.R. Jackson course at the International Disc Golf Center for the inaugural PDGA Champions Cup presented by Bushnell.
The four-round event debuts Thursday and runs through Sunday, giving the elite field the opportunity to secure their legacy on the course as a Major champion in the spring.
The PDGA Majors Committee has announced invitation criteria for the 2023 PDGA Champions Cup ahead of the first Elite Series event of 2022.
The criteria, which remains largely the same as the inaugural edition, was designed to honor the champions from disc golf’s premier professional and amateur events.
Invitations to the 2023 edition will be awarded to the MPO and FPO winners from all 15 DGPT Elite Series events, seven Euro Tour Events, four PDGA Majors and a handful of National Championships including Canadian Nationals, the Australian Disc Golf Championship, the Japan National Championship and the New Zealand National Championship.

The road to the 2022 PDGA Champions Cup presented by Bushnell is gaining momentum with the first wave of tickets going on sale, and selling out, this past Thursday night.
The inaugural edition was originally slated to feature a mix of stroke play and match play formats over five days, but after receiving additional feedback from players and stakeholders, the Majors Committee re-opened discussions, ultimately delivering a recommendation to return to a more traditional format.
The Champions Cup invite list includes champions from all 2021 PDGA Elite Series events, comprised of five PDGA National Tour and 11 Disc Golf Pro Tour stops, as well as all MPO/FPO Majors, including Pro Worlds, the United States Disc Golf Championship, and the United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship. The MP40/FP40 winners of the PDGA Masters Disc Golf World Championships are also invited to attend.
The PDGA Majors Committee has established a preliminary list of premier disc golf events that will serve as automatic qualifiers for the inaugural PDGA Champions Cup, set to take place April 14-17, 2022, at the International Disc Golf Center in Appling, Georgia. The field size will be limited to 100 MPO and 40 FPO. Registration will be offered in tiers and will be based on PDGA player ratings once invited players have had an opportunity to register.
Disc golf continues to grow, building its history and tradition with each season. In 2022, another touchstone event will join the PDGA Elite Series calendar with the addition of the inaugural Champions Cup, set to be held at the International Disc Golf Center in Appling, Georgia.
