The year started off 6-0 in favor of the OMBs will the YGBs ever get a win ? They came close last week, but lost in a playoff on the 3rd safari hole.
Pray for them, they seem to need it.

they will be at autodan and where going to play with us but kevin in on a time frame that my not allow him to complete the format that has been discussed for this evening.. I makes no difference to me nor Jack so bring it on what ever it is,,, I do however think it will be unfair to the ygb's to play that 6-6-6, mainly the terminex team,, lets see there score shounld be in the double digits for sure,, see ya girls in a bit,, on my way to have a beer and a break :o

SCORES???
sheesh, if the YounGayBirds cant win tonight with all their ringers then they are totally hopeless. their core for sure cannot get the job done. lets hear how the outsiders did!
okcacehole
May 20 2005, 12:12 AM
The "ringers" is exactly what we needed...though Todd and I could have tied D&D at 50...but Pizza ( I don't want to be a pro anymore) and PT ( I need to move up to Pro)...shot a 48...all 3 teams on the other YGB card pulled 51's and I am not sure about the other OMB's....I think very similar.
I so enjoy playing the smack doubles and look at the crowd we had tonight...17 players...SWEET...this is how fun golf should be...
now to get Josh to grow that hair out!...I knew that was good Frank and he wouldn't go for it..
They finally pulled one out. Frank and I missed all 3 finishing holes. 16-18 are gotta have birdies to pull off a win.
At least now we know they will keep coming back.

We should've gotten at least 2 of the last three holes and that would have tied. We blew it, they won.
Pizza God
May 20 2005, 01:15 AM
come on now, PT and I both missed 30ft putts on #1 (my drive)
We missed our 20ft putt on #4 (my drive again)
We missed a 40ft putt on #11 (PT's drive 2 foot in front of mine)
We screwed up #14 with PT turning his booming driver deep into the shule and then me puttin my disc over 6ft in that tree in front of the tee box. (dang it)
Then we got #15 with my roller and putt
We both missed a 40ft putt on 17.
All I got to say is that PT can throw a disc.

new thread is faster. It has nothing to do with anyone's personal computer, as all of the software involved is on the PDGA server(s). UBBThreads (the msg-board software they use) doesn't properly index the mysql database on initial configuration. It also requests more messages than the ones needed to fill the page. It was never intended to handle a thread with 8000 posts :)
Anyway, OMB LOSER punks hung their heads in shame this week as Frank lost on his home course. They had lots of excuses as usual. I see a new trend... They got a few wins early in the season, but as the heat increases along with the competition, they just can't handle the pressure. A tie at Porter forced a playoff last week, and this week they didn't even come close. Of course, without PT/PG it would have been another tie... but it's been a little while since they have had a solid victory. Next week I think the trend will continue.
Here are the scores as best I can remember them:
48 PT/PG
50 T-n-A
50 D-n-D
51 Baldwood
51 Roberts/Krappl
51 Reddman/Newbie
51 Watts/Tabor
53 Bitner/Kevin (sorry can't remember his last name)
I know there was a solo player on the last card, but I never caught his name or his score.

YGBs rule ?
A best of 7 series would have ended 3 games ago.
It's a best of 30 series, 10 more victories and we lock in a win for the season.
BTW Adam, If it has ended in a tie and Frank had to leave before settling the tie, the OMBs would have forfeited. Per STD rules, all ties for first place must be decided.

I'm going to try Old Denton Road (last exit before 35E) up to 121 business to Main St. to Mill St. I'm hoping most traffic on 121 now uses the bypass. It's a little longer, but the few times I've started up Old Denton, it wasn't very heavily traveled.
For Audubon from 190 west of 75. Just follow 190 past 78 to Centerville Road. Right on Centerville past Broadway, left on Duck Creek, right on Oates.
baldguy
May 23 2005, 03:19 PM
you mean you just discovered these routes? You shoulda asked me, I used to be a Lewisville local, and I grew up in Garland :) If you're coming W on 190 to Old Denton, I'd recommend exiting Rosemeade and taking that to Old Denton. Maybe even a couple minutes faster would be Rosemeade to a R on Marsh to a L on Hebron, then down to Old Denton. Hebron seems to move much faster than Rosemeade. Traffic at 190 & Old Denton can be hairy at 5:00.
The route to Audobon is decent, but getting E of 75 on 190 can be a pain at 5:00. It's usually faster to just wait it out on 635... depending on where you are coming from. I used to have to drive heom from Addison to Garland every day in rush hour... in a '67 mustang with no power steering or A/C . No matter which way you go, it's a long drive
Pizza God
May 23 2005, 03:27 PM
Ok, the best way from Plano to the Lake depends on where you are in Plano. GB Turnpike to Old Denton is actually a good idea. Old Denton gets a lot of traffic at rush hour, but not like 35 and 121 area.
I live at Hebron/Park and Josey.
I always take Josey to 121 then over to lewisville. The only traffic I ever hit is at 121 and Josey. But when you get to Old Denton, you bypass all the traffic without a light.
You can also take Parker (old 544) all the way to business 121. But this gives you lights at Old Denton, 121 and again at Business 121. If you take Parker, turn on Josey to 121.
Don't take Plano Parkway to 121, It meanders too much.
121 going south from Preston or Legacy is not too bad.
Pizza God
May 23 2005, 03:36 PM
If you are taking GB turnpike, I would take Old Denton before getting off at Rosemead/Midway exit. If you do get off at Midway, turn right and either take Hebron/Park to Josey, or take Plano Parkway to Parker over to Josey.
Actually, this way may not be so bad.
ok, from GB Turnpike, get off at Midway (one exit after North Dallas Tollroad) Go north on Midway to Plano Parkway. (3 lights) Take a left on Plano Parkway too Parker. (past Hebron High School where my kids will someday attend) Turn Left on Parker to Josey and then Right on Josey to 121. Left on 121 and stay in the right lane. When you come to the 121 bypass/Business 121 stay right (where the old Wranglers building is)
This puts you in lewisville. At that point you take a right at the 4th light (main st)and follow the road to Mills (right by the new city hall) Turn right on Mills and folow to the course.
Ok, you got it :D

I think the reason we play Porter and GB so much is so that more people can play. The Lake would be fun, but Frank can't make it. BC, CH, and the Vet are way too far for 90% of our regulars to make it. BamBam, I don't think you've come to any of them this year... Is there anywhere you can make it to by 6:00? Other than Denton? :)
I thought the point of this was to play a smack-talk round with friends for bragging rights. Since our group is so spread out, what's wrong with meeting in the middle? Variety is always nice. If anyone can come up with a course outside of Carrollton that is doable for most of us, then I'll cast my vote for that course. Otherwise, GB or Porter may be our best bet.

Before I get jumped on for my DDG remark, let me state it is not personally meant for anyone. Danny is a great guy and helps alot with disc golf around here as well as Dirk, but they are also very busy with other aspects in their lives.
I just hate to see the DDG doing nothing for the entire 2 1/2 yrs I have been here. No tournies, no new courses, not even mini's except at BB Owen....working together with people that want to work is the only way this is going to get our side of town bigger and better for disc golfers all over the metroplex.

May 24 2005, 02:50 PM
Adam after years and years of working hard getting courses put in, both Dirk and Danny stepped down. DDG is now in the hands of the guys who play out there. They still have meeting and are still raizing money for Flag Pole Hill. Dirk still does his thing with the city of Dallas, but is not out like he use to be.
Some of the things that DDG has done lately.
Get Rowlett installed.
Redesign several holes at Autobon.
Ton's of work out at BB Owen.
DDG also designed, raized money and installed EBR and now has pulled the course for lack of play.
DDG also re-designed the Plano course.
DDG has been working with the City of Richardson to install a course. Even holding a tournament at Huffines Park off Plano Rd. (I hold the course record :D)
DDG donated the bases for the Carrollton 9 baskets. (which I need to get back from Scott Cook)
DDG has sponsored the Carrollton Open almost every year from year ONE.
The problem is that those that know how to get things done, don't have the time to do it anymore.
What do you want to do to get things done around here.
Do you want to start up a new club that gets things done??? I will join and help out the little that I can. It takes a lot of work.

BamBam, I don't think you've come to any of them this year... Is there anywhere you can make it to by 6:00? Other than Denton? :)
Thank you for making my point, BBD.... and yes, guess which other course I can make? :p :D
I thought when we made the decision to begin rotating this event between several DFW area courses, that we did so to allow most everyone to play in at least a few of them, as opposed to fewer of us being able to play almost all of them. After all, we were calling oursevles the "Travelling STD" at one time, as opposed to the "Centralized STD", correct? :p
If that is not the case, then I guess I will only make a few of them all year long... Life goes on.
If my assessment is correct, however, then I must be blunt in saying there are a few people here that need to get over themselves, and stop whining and crying when they can't make every single event because the drive is too far. Grow yourself some thicker skin and just go play somewhere else for a day.

That sentence would have to be directed more at the OMB's...I don't mind missing a week as stated before..
Bryan - I have NO inclination to start another club as I have already been down that path before and don't even have the time myself. I just wish the current "club" would do something for this area...
Fixing Plano, changing buckets around and sponsoring events may help, but they isolate themselves so much from all other clubs and people that could work together that it is like smacking your head against a brick wall....OKC disc golf is dead due to a lack of leadership and a well formed club and they only have 3 courses in OKC....Dallas is the same but with tons of players and courses...
Just tired of driving across town to play in tournies when they could be right here in our backyard

exactly what I was getting at...without a great leader at the top and people to support that...clubs fail
You aren't running the tourney under the club though are you...? Mr Jims is your baby and the TX 10 is Himings....
by the way...do you still need some help with the TX10? I would be willing to give you help with that event...especially since they are on my HOME courses!

Yes, I was counting on help from several of the local DG'rs, including you. Without help, this could be the last Carrollton Open. It is just too hard to run a HUGE event and make a living doing something else.
Help is available.
Where are we playing ?
Not trying to fuel the fire, but for the longest I have wondered why Dallas is so out of the picture when it comes to clubs, and participation. After talking w/ Nate Bitner and hearing all that he has done for Lubbock makes me wonder why it is so hard to make some things happen here as well.
I do not know alot about Dallas disc golf as a club, xcept for they are non-existent on here, what is gonna take for Dallas to step it up?
By the way I am sad to say that I will not be playing this Thurs,I'm going to Denver to see my cousin graduate high school, hell ya'll don't even know where ya'll are playing anyways  :p- j/k
But seriously, does anyone know if there are many courses in Denver or surrounding cities that I might be able to play while I am there?

regarding a lack of a dallas club... Frankly, I think Dallas is too big with too many golfers for one club to work easily. There are lots of cliques that have petty feuds with other cliques. There are TDs that clash with other TDs. I'd love to see a Dallas club come to fruition, but I think alot of work would have to be done before that could ever happen. Them Arlington boys may be schmucks, but at least they have a good thing going with the ADGA :D. The Vet, Z-Boaz, and Cedar Hill are some of the best courses in DFW.
On our side of town, we really only have Audubon that can compete with those. Samuel Crawford will possibly be even better, but it's still a work in progress. What we do have is a bunch of average courses that don't really have the draw that a good or great course will have. With so many mediocre options, our local golfers are going to be spread pretty far out on any given day. Lake Park has a decent-sized draw because it is such a beautiful, shady park that is playable in just about any weather conditions... but It's not on the same level with the ones mentioned above. Add into the mix the fact that there is a tournament within driving distance nearly every weekend... What motivation do golfers have to actually form a club where there isn't one?
What I think needs to happen is this: someone needs to take initiative and make something great in Dallas. Crawford park is a good start. I wish it was closer to home, but 30 minutes isn't too bad, and if it turns out as good as I think it can... it will be the best in DFW. Someone needs to help build a base of disc golfers who are willing to make the new park their home, and thereby build an informal club around something that has the power to keep the club going. Weekly minis, quarterly events, fundraising tournaments, on-site disc sales, etc. will go very far in this effort. Trying to organize people who don't have a reason to stay organized.... well it fails. We've seen that.
By no means am I suggesting that I would try and start such a trend, I'm only pouring my thoughts out onto virtual paper. I'd like to mention that in doing so, I have started to truly realize how much certain people do and are trying to do for our sport. The dedication and thick skin it takes are qualities I very much admire and respect. I hope one or some of those people will show an interest in making something happen in Dallas.
What if we took a poll to see if anyone would be willing to jumpstart this kind of thing.
I would be willing to donate time, however money is tough for me right now. I want to see this thing take a 180.
What does it take?
Pizza God
May 24 2005, 08:39 PM
What does it take?
It takes a few players to get together and decide what they want to accomplish.
Then you set out to make those things happen.
There are always guys that will help out on work days, and show up to play mini's, and what not, to help raise money.
The problem is direction. Someone has to be a leader. If I had the time and could make a commitment, I would do it myself.
Anyone feel free to make a suggestion. :D

There is already a Dallas Disc Golf Club, and a couple of North Texas Disc Golf Clubs, ADGA...
A group that is dedicated to getting new courses in the ground and working with the various organizations (DG clubs, Neighborhoods, City and County Rec Departments) to work through issues around the courses would be a large task. It should also be organized as a non-profit which requires consistency of major players and accurate detailed bookkeeping. We should have the talent here, but who wants to dedicate that much time and effort just to be told you aren't doing it right ?

When I started the OKC Club it was 3 guys with $33.33 each..we bought $100 in plastic and had a 100 person tournament within the year..we threw an event every single month no matter how many showed up...ran weekly ace pots...ect.ect...

I'm simply trying to make a point, and I'm trying to do it in such a fashion as to allow the more intelligent among us to "discover" the point on their own, as opposed to having it flown in their faces.
Based on the early results, however, I fear the experiment may be too ambitious in its scope. :(

Gary, there is no reason to sit in traffic for an hour to get from Richardson to Lewisville. Take your favorite route to 190, Go W to the Tollway, endure just enough traffic to get you to the Spring Creek exit. Go L (NW) to 121, then L (W-SW) to Main. Turn R (N) there to Mill, Take another R (N) and follow Mill to the course. I'd think it should take less than 45 minutes. You have a stereo, no? I have to drive at least 30 minutes no matter where we play. Audubon is over an hour. I make the drive because I have fun playing the STD with all you old farts... Why can't we all just work together and figure something out? Carrollton is in range for everyone (even you, BamBam: it doesn't take an hour to get from Denton to GB) and we now have enough daylight to move the start time to 6:30 if necessary. We can even start each card as it's ready to go... This doesn't have to be as difficult as you guys are making it.

hey steve i've been saying that all along.
Frank..just FYI..when we did try a schedule last year..you were opposed :D..maybe we do need it..maybe we are all grasping at the bigger picture for Dallas golf here..
There are piles of "clubs/golf groups"..in the area with The Lake Group and most of them Porter also and now Gb ( thank goodness) ..McKinney, BB, Fritz, now Cedar Hill, ect and hopefully Crawford..
we can't always be at the same place at the same time and I only named a small chunk of the courses we have...
It would take the work of the masses, but imagine the golf Dallas and Fort Worth could have just by the pure # of courses and players we have...It's not about competing ideas..its about more golf and better golf!
but we just don't group all together...agenda's, jobs, lifestyles, ideas, backgrounds, beliefs, ect...
That is not the reason it shouldn't work...it has to be the love of the sport and time you can allocate towards it...and it takes alot!

Post another win for the YGBs!
PT/ReddMan - 44
Duke/Parker - 45
Baldwoody - 46
Smurf/Tad - 47
Someone correct the scores if I'm wrong.

May 27 2005, 12:04 AM
I like them the way they are, but Woody and BBD shot the 46...we had the 47 :o
Did you all forget...
PT chains on #7 for $1 each
Duke may have hit the bucket on that hole
#11 - ACE BBD and ACE PARKER...WOW!!..
I am out $11.00 and what a great round..then Josh told the group on #6 that we had already hit 2 and one of them ACES it...w/o skip..
Porter was a golfers friend today!!!!
How do you change a thread title ?
It's been bad luck since I made the new thread.
PT is on the winning team again. 3 teams tied going into 15, and we miss the birdie.
2 metal hits(hole 6 & 7), 2 aces (BBD and Steve P. on hole 11).
At least someone made it to -10 today.

Gin Diesel..you know what to do...that is another one..
Mark in singles - doubles had me ready for his win..PT showing up sealed the deal...they putted lights out and PT brought that boomer we love to see...
RINGERS....PT so far...we are always 1 or 2 from the win, except for that tie last week that wasn't needed.. :D

Did you old Bastages let the YGB beat you again? What in the hell is goin' on up there?
Do I need to come up and teach the youngsters the humility they can only learn by losing to someone who stinks as bad as me?!?!?

all you D-area golfers... as we do on every holiday, we will be running a Team Gold (match play) mini at hte Vet on Memorial Day. signup/seeding starts about 9:30 and play starts shortly after 10AM.
it is complete and total fun... most of you remember the MaceMan match play day. this is just as good, and only one round.
the teams are seeded, so there's no reason for players in the BBD skill-range to stay away. we will get you situated so that you will be playing against similarly skill-challenged golfers!
so dont be shy, hope to see lots of you at the Vet on monday!

Hey all from Tenn. Glad to see PT on top again.
Soon it will be tied up again.
Didn't get to play yesterday, but will play a round on Lookout Mountain or The Sinks on Sunday in Chattanooga (I learned how to spell this one today making motel reservations)
There is also a new 9 hole course hear Nashville that I plan on playing either tuesday or Wednesday when I make my trip to play disc golf all day.
Now don't you guys work too hard today (as if any of you do Except Frank where they cut him off the internet to make him get something done)
I am going to go cruze the country side on an ATV for the rest of the afternoon :D

Looks like only a 20% chance of rain now for tomorrow...good news!!!
Woody - I highly doubt she would have to pay to watch, but if you split a cart with your partner..I am not sure if there is another seat in the back...Todd has said he couldn't make it and BBD will be gone..you and I may tag up if need be
