for the record i wasn't on the couch or anywhere near it. when you called me, I had been home for all of 15 minutes, and at my office (in carrollton) it had been raining for almost 3 hours. I didn't know that it had only rained for 10 minutes at porter, but *again* for the record, you yourself have bailed based on rain the day before (at GB, and it has been a few months). I kinda assumed that rain the day of (nay, 30 minutes prior) would also send you running for the hills. Anyway, I'll be there at 4:00 tomorrow to warm up. Parker and I will whoop up on you whenever you get there.

This was the first tourney where i actually knew a lot of people and it was sooooo much more fun. Thanks for the hyzer routes STD'ers, I would not have been close without them. ;) Now if you guys can just show me how to throw 480ish and park 17 at GB like Newberry did (it was HUGE ...(im talking about the drive Parker)).

yeah i DNF'd... didn't feel like playing round #3, for sure wasn't gonna play round #4. I played terribly this weekend. I figured I'd just put in some volunteer time and not make my rating any worse :D It *was* fun driving around on the courses putting out water though. I spent most of round 4 at home in the AC with my better half. I guarantee I had more fun than all of you did out in the sun and heat :p

remember how before worlds i left a T10 event because my higher goal was to play multiple courses? i took some crap here for "quitting" - even though what i was doing was in fact perservering and staying true to what i know works.

the point is this: the BEST thing you can do to get better on Course A (if you know Course A well) is to play Courses B,C,D,E,F,G and as many others as possible.

when you go out there five times a week you are not learning technique or broadening your shot selection. you are not looking at each shot, analyzing it, and evaluating it for proper shot selection. you are just learning to play by rote.

the problem with playing by rote is that when the direction of the wind changes, or you shank to somewhere you aint never shanked before you have to invent a shot you have never ever conceived, saw, or attempted.

by playing other courses as much as possible you will automatically be forced into more shots and different situations... you will develop good habits and skills in shot selection... you will increase your creativity and your ability to actually pull it off. and when you play your home course you will not be playing by rote anymore.. you'll be focusing and thinking every shot through.

even putting a few hundred putts in the backyard every day will improve your game MUCH more than playing the same two courses 3-4-5 times a week.

just some input on something that has worked for me.

btw, i just aced #8 at saginaw at lunchtime! i skipped off the pan the first time around (its a nine holer) than banged a knife hyzer smack into the chains the second time around.

whats really wierd is that before last weekend i was thinking i needed to get an ace with that disc (X-avenger) cuz it was starting to show signs of wear and i wanted to retire it :D

So lets just rehash the same old subject one more time...those are the places we can reach easily after work....I'll play the course I want, when I want...geesh...

considering daylight savings is close to over, I am happy to play at all after work

Well I am out on BC tomorrow. I really need to hit the motels after work tomorrow. All the motels are going to be full this weekend and I need to go drum up some business. We are currently averaging about 5/6 motel orders a night right now when we usually average about 1 or 2.

Actually, no... no plans to play the tourney at BC this weekend. I grew up in Houston, and with Rita coming in, we'll very likely be hosting some friends who are coming up for a few days until the storm blows through.

well, the simple fact is that Claydog is more often than not a better player than i am. he has been in a bit of a mini-slump, and i have been peaking. he can drive further, has an equal mid game, and if he works late shift he can putt that weekend as good as anyone in our division.

That's an interesting observation about Parker. I seem to recall Parker being the first one to say he wanted to play Bear Creek this week... voted for it, even, he did!

But then, after the usual biatching from the usual suspects, Parker changed his mind and played Porter with the rest of the boys.

If anything, I'd say Parker seems to have left his "walnuts" behind when he showed up at Porter yesterday.

Oh yeah... I played Bear Creek yesterday. Shot a -3 from the longs... finished before dark... had a great time.

I've played Moody's course, it is awesome.

However, after making 5 Friz's in a row (1997, 98, 99, 00, 01) I can say YOU HAVEN'T GOLFED UNTIL YOU'VE BEEN TO WINFIELD, KS in OCTOBER! I probably would have made 7 or 8 in a row, but this thing called the USDGC started to get in the way. :D

It is also a FRIZ RIVAL and until you see and experience the FRIZ...they are the same sides of the boat...maybe next year

its not a FRIZ rival. yes, there are happy times for those who choose to camp on the ranch, but Oktoberfest is way more within normal boundaries. FRIZ from what i understand is its own dimension.

seriously, Moody's is some incredible golf in the Lost Pines area around Bastrop/Red Rock. you need to throw far, you need to throw short, you need to throw accurate, you need to throw every shot you got sooner or later. you will be tired when you're done.

By the end of Friz I don't know that you even have to throw a disc anymore :D I missed you too many years in a row John...I made 5 of them myself during many of those years you were there. Freezing, sweating, flooding and everything in-between.

Definately a different event than Octoberfest. Last time I went I played only the 1st round because a buddy from New Orleans showed up and we decided to hang out instead. However, on Sunday morning after the cards were turned in from the 3rd round, I was somehow on the Leader Card :D

I know, not alot I can say about that. No matter what kind of advertising gets done, it's always a fun tournament. Getting to play part of the old course 3 times and all the championship holes is worth the entry. Now that you're playing adv. you get to play all the championship holes. Come on guys, we need locals to show up. It's always fun!

I plan on playing ray.... after this last weekend I am not sure about playing advanced though.... I will probably play in itermediate if there are not enough ombs to make a decent field....

well clay you know if there was a thread about it (other than in the Arlington) group it might. it is not listed on the PDGA tour. it is not on titledisc, so you can sign up. I did mail my check to terry at the ADGA addy that was on the flyer that was left on my truck at BC. I hope it has a good turn out but with no one talking it up makes me wonder.

For those of you who weren't humiliated by Twisted Acres last weekend...check out the photos from this course...FLY 18 was nice, but this blows it off the map. Restaraunt, bar, pool tables, card tables, driving range, 18 holes with 3 pads each plus alternate pads...AMAZING

I shot +6 out at Twisted Acres on Friday and then tripled it on Sunday :( Amazing golfing or lack thereof...once you realize you can't Par the course in that wind and you already have a pile of bogeys and more...it gets bad...Krell and I tied for 2nd worst ADV round - ouch

There were novice rounds at 100+ strokes..for 18 HOLES!

4 weekends in a row I have played in tournies...another one at $60 with a low turnout doesn't sound real good right now. I know Brian and Todd seem to want to play...we'll see what they say when they see the prices

I talked to Charles Cox last night at Crowley's mini. He does not get on here often, so I thought I would inform you guys that are weighing how many entrants there will be that he is planning on playing this weekend. He said whether he plays Advanced or Advanced Masters depends on how many others sign up.
Oh, Dennie "Daddy D" says he is going to win Advanced.

As far as Frank saying alot of money for small divisions, with talk like that, of course people aren't going to show up. (well, he's not going so I'm not playing type thing. Say you'll play and more will show up.)
Adam, the entry INCLUDES ace golf in the oaks and lunch one day. A nice players package AND you get to play part of the old course and all championship tee pads. Pretty good deal.

One more thing, we need to SUPPORT our LOCAL clubs. (Z-Boaz, VPO, Mr. Jims etc..) whenever possible.

With the Schule School going on in the south and the Friz going on to the north, we need LOCAL support more than ever. Suck it up and play guys, it's always a fun weekend. Terry, J&G always put on a good show. :D

oh just sign up and have some fun, and just look at the weather report, in the 70's all weekend, that sells me on it.

1st round, concrete tees to short pins. From there pins start moving longer. Sunday is Championship tees on 2,8,13,17 and 18 with all pins long. Championship 15 will be played second round I believe.
If you can't afford to play, come by during the weekend and help Terry out for awhile. We always need spotters when the old course is set up and baskets need to be moved in between rounds. There are ways to support your local clubs without paying money. Staff the entire weekend and I'm sure Terry will hook you up with a players package and lunch both days. (Don't hold me to that, he has in years past). :D

ok i am confused a bit, he states 4 rounds but says nothing about the old course being used. and what about the ace thing, is that a 5th round or what.

Gary, if the old course gets used, is is incorporated in to the rounds. Meaning, we play 21 or 24 holes each round with anything over 18 being from the old course. With the "zeroscape" project going on, I dont know how many of the old holes, if any, will be used. That is a question for Terry.

The Ace Golf is after the conclusion of the tournament. It is a seperate, strictly voluntery event that is an absolute blast to play in. 36 holes of ace runs. Its an ace or nothing. Every penny of the $5 per player entry is split equally among those who ace. You can easily make up some of your tournament entry in this event. Two weeks ago at the Club Championships I hit an ace during Ace Golf and got $40+ for it.

Everyone should either come out and play, or come out and staff. Am weekend is usually difficult to find enough staff. Pro weekend we usually have more staff available.

The number of holes and rounds will be determined after discussions with other members this evening. I always like to include some of the old holes and it would not be a VPO with out those holes. I would say at least 21. If we go to 24 holes, then we would only play 3 rounds. 21 would be 4 rounds. I will let everyone know tonight.

Ace golf for players in the event is for players only. There will also be a side bet for staff and others who would like to play, but this would be a seperate pot from the Players ace golf. We will also only play 18 holes of ace golf. 36 is way too many after playing all the regular golf as we found out at the CC's.

The only way I've seen it done in the past was for all of the staff to play with a seperate $5 buy-in. The ace's were split among the staff only from their buy-in. Last year I hit the only staff ace during Ace Golf in the Oaks for VPO Pro weekend and got $55. So, some money can still be made there. Most importantly, I love playing Ace Golf. Again, it was for staff only. I dont think you can walk up and play. Come out for a few hours and help Terry run the thing and you can play.
