I've got a quick question. Can MA1 players register and play as open in tourneys without changing their amateur status? I understand that you can as long as you don't accept cash. (not that I'm good enough...just wondering)
okcacehole
Feb 27 2006, 01:15 PM
Sure can and you can accept cash if it isn't sanctioned (i.e. Match Play this weekend where Shawn and Brice both moved to Pro and Shawn won it)
If you take the cash in a scationed event you are stuck in PRO
Pizza God
Feb 27 2006, 04:30 PM
If you take cash in a PDGA event, you only loose out on playing any AM Majors like Worlds, World Doubles, and a few others.
But as long as your player rating is below 955 for Adv or 915 for Adv Masters, you can still play all the other tournaments.
That is how I played 2 advanced tournaments last year when my player rating was 950. I shot some good rounds last year and now I can't play Adv anymore.
But then I am happy playing Pro Masters now anyways.

Whoops..I always forget about that new ruling ( which is another bad decision IMO)...seems that once you go Pro and accept cash you should not be allowed back to AM, but that is not how it is currently
Oh well.
Thanks for the update on Porter Bryan...I'll run by there are see how close they look to finishing up. Daylight savings is just around the corner and I wouldn't want Pat to just razz me for playing GB only :D

there is an Oversight Director, who is charged with making sure the organization plays by its own rules (its constitution) and plays fair with its members.
there is no BOD member list that is readily available on the web. i've heard you can find something about the Spring Summit, and there is a list in there. but good luck on that one.

if you shoot +15 in AM or even +20 that will be a good score on the beast. It can be brutal, but is one great course
Anyone playing Sunday? We are probably staying at Lake Whitney after the tourney and then driving home Sunday morning for some golf in DFW

last 3 times I went to Vegas, I came home with more gambling money than I left with, YET I came home with much less cash overall each time.
Those shows are just so darn expensive. Shoot, even the comedians were expensive. We tried to see Rodney Dangerfield and they were sold out, tickets were $80 each.
Best value for a show is Mystre (spelling???)
My favorate show in Vegas so far is Blue Man Group!!!!!!
I hope to see the new Beatles show at the Mirage next time I go to vegas next year.

how much are these **** tags.... Im pretty sure that if I wait to challenge people till the second round I can walk away with 4 or 5 of you guys tags.... waco seems to have a track record of players getting drunker than usual between rounds....(this is a blatent fabrication but it supports my case so I will let it stand...) anyway.... I have never played any of these tag games but I might start this year.... :p
okcacehole
Mar 01 2006, 03:51 PM
Steve, I am referring to the 2006 Tulsa Am Worlds Tags. They are $25.00 and will support worlds and gettting some more courses in the ground. Chris also has a bag tag challenge for the TX7 this year, but doesn't have them done yet and won't have them in time for Waco
You can only win/switch a tag with another one. You don't get to keep everyones tag if you beat them :D

Alternating kept you from cashing bigger. Did you guys 3 #18 on either course?
okcacehole
Mar 20 2006, 12:49 PM
AHHH...so they did take the cash??..I was wondering if they would...no more AM for them or are they below the 955 mark?
Had a rough weekend with my friends funeral services and all, but we played a memorial doubles round after the services and started on hole #1 with Daryl Johnson and Jason Schwake (one of Jeremy's brothers) and my partner Greg and I.
We were the last group to finish and I had the whole parking lot watching us as I ACED the final hole. Not the best shot int the world but Jeremy helped throw it up in the bucket for me!

Mar 21 2006, 12:25 AM
We both took the cash and sucked horribly the second day all the way around. Threed 18 on the shorter course the first day and had a put to three it the second day but we both missed the putt. I played HORRENDOUS the second day and we still took cash. That was encouraging enough to take the money. Thanks for the congrats though.

Mar 23 2006, 03:44 AM
The course is flagged, I think all of the baskets will be in the ground before the mini. There is still at least one tree that is planned to come out on 18, and a bunch of limbs on 13's blue fairway. I'm not sure of the status of 14 and 15's fairways, but there are alternate tees for both that are already cleared.
I'll give Stick a call and find out when the mini starts.

Mar 23 2006, 05:35 PM
Adam,
GB is fine; the water is a-flowin' but it's not that bad...you just can't short-cut across the creek along the rocks right now. By the time the weather is nice again, it should be all back to normal.
jeterdawg
Mar 23 2006, 05:46 PM
By the way, what's JP like? I thought I heard some stuff about some baskets not being in the ground currently due to construction? Or are the holes just a little obstructed right now?
okcacehole
Mar 23 2006, 06:04 PM
You can play holes #7-#16 at JP...the rest are still in the ground but are covered up due to the construction...the park is starting to look real good, but I don't presently see any paths except one to cross the newly made creeks..going from #5 to #6 will be a chore unless something is put in.
They have some more work to do so that may be part of it.
Was the water back to clear at GB?

Mar 24 2006, 09:49 PM
Susan - I bet you can get directions off the course directory, but the course is south of 20 on 67...exit Mt Lebanon and turn right..follow the road to the White Mansion and turn right again...course will be on your right about 1-2 miles down the road..
Amazing courses...very tight course on the Coyote and the Beaver is a little more open. Long holes and short.
What day will you guys be playing?
gnduke
Mar 25 2006, 03:53 AM
I would think the easiest route would to take 635 east/south to Elam Rd. That's past US 80 and one exit past Lake June Rd.
Go west (right) on Elam to Praitie Creek Road,
South (left) on Prairie Creek road, the park will be on your right. Go past the soccer fields, turn right into the parking lot between the soccer fields and the tree line.
an early map of the course (http://www.lsdga.com/maptest.html)
Click on the hybrid button to get and back out to get a view of the surrounding roads.
For anyone coming in on I-20 east of Dallas, Stay on I-20, do not go north on 635.
Take US 175 (CF Hawn Freeway) north toward Dallas.
The second exit should be St. Augustine, Go north (right) on St. Augustine, the left on Seagoville Rd. Seagoville road stops at Prairie Creek facing the soccer fields. Turn left, enter the parking lot after the soccer fields.

Pizza God
Mar 31 2006, 11:50 AM
1st, sign at Porter still says it is closed, however, rec players have torn off all the garbage bags covering the baskets and there has been players out there every day this week.
2nd Carrollton Charity Cup Classic ran in 93-95 for sure. In 96 it was held in Lewisville and coppell. Then in 97 Tim retired from TD'n and I started the Carrollton Open later in the year.
Before 93 it was called the Circular Sky's tour over Carrollton, and before that it was called the Texas State Championship. (one year it was the Pepsi Texas State Championships)
I played my first tournament in June of 1988 at the Texas State Championship. John Houck was the TD. (I had purchased my first golf disc in April)
I got on TV at the 1989 Texas State Championships, both the night before the tournament (John gave us all colared shirts to wear and we just walked around throwing a few discs) I was used in the teaser. I made a straddle put from in some trees to a basket about 45 ft away. It took me about 10 tries to make it. My personalized, homemade disc golf bag was also used by the reporter when he was showing the basics to the viewing audiance. This may have been the best news coverage of disc golf I ever remember.
On Sunday, another new crew showed up and filmed us on a few holes. They showed me throwing a roller. (thankfully they didn't show me throwing it into the creek) Somewhere I have a video tape of those two that I recorded.
------
We instaled Porter in 93, the back side was instaled right before the CCCC. I remember because I had just purchased the North Carrollton Store and I brough out drinks and pizza for everyone worked on clearing those back holes.
In March or April of 93 I had handed Tim $400 for a hole sponsorship. Two weeks later I had purchased the North Carrollton Store, partly because there were going to be two disc golf courses there. (I had a chance to purchase afew other stores like Red Oak, but turned them down because there were no Disc Golf coruses around.)
The CCCC used something that has never been used again.
3 flights using two courses. Every 1 1/2 hours a flight would start. This gave us time to get cards done. CCCC was the 1ST ever A-tier tournament. (and alot of the reason the A-tier got started) I have some of the books from that tournament that Tim gave me to see how to budget a tournament.
Back then, the City would give $2,000 plus 20x20 tents at both courses PLUS would pay for port a potties.
When I first started, they would give me the tents and port a potties, then just the port a potties, now they just let me run the tournament.
BTW, the CCCC always gave the proceds to Operation Kindness, a no kill animal shelter.
Joey can also thank Tim for teaching him how to run tournaments. They spent a lot of time talking and Tim telling him how to do it.
Waco may be the only tournament RUN by the SAME TD for longer than I have run the Carrollton Open. I can't think of any others in Texas or even Oklahoma who has put in 9 years in a row. (this year 10)
I can't decide if this will be my last one or if I should just keep going just for the heck of it. I am tired of running it personally.
----
opps, I started rambling again :D

The video we have is of the CCCC and it was held at both GB and JP that year...the video of the final 4 Pro's was being held at JP...Mitch is wearing a lovely shirt saying "that wasn't my fart"... :D
Yes you should run the MJCO again. I have offered my help 2 years in a row and you have not returned my messages regarding it. I also don't want to run any tournies as 24 tournies in 2 yrs wore me out instantly. I would rather give back to golf in other ways.
We have been talking about raising some funds for benches at GB or JP..probably best to wait until all construction is complete, but if you have played Dolese in OKC in the last 4yrs you can see all the benches I put in. 4yrs later only one has been actually ripped up and will have to have the top replaced, but the legs aren't coming out of the ground.

All for the Benches, however I think we need to get Tee Pads first.
I have not talked to the city about Jimmy Porter in several months. I have no idea if they plan on putting any type of bridges out there. i doubt it. However, if the water is low, you can cross pretty easily from what I can see. Maybe a few stepping stones cemented down in the dry months would do it for most of the year. (if we can get away with it)

There are three ways you can help with the Carrollton Open.
1st, help find some sponsorship.
2nd - run Jimmy Porter durring the tournament
3rd - help HQ by selling discs between round and helping with score cards.
I think I am going to change up the way I do score cards this year. I am going to have the players write there names on the cards like Texas 10's do. This would help get things done quicker between rounds.
Either that, or I might find a something to print out score cards for each round (ie lables)
Gary, you out there. Is there anyway you could incorporate that into your program??? I will look around for some lables that would work next week. I know Avery 5160 lables could work for 2 names per lable. I wand to see if I can find a label big enough for 5 players names and be big enough to line up with the score boxes. (I can always print different score cards)
I just want to get away from all the organizing the score cards between rounds. I takes more time to do that than anything. However, I may just do it again. I think I might start a poll to see what players think.

Going from Hole #5 to #6 at JP right now will be a mess..there isn't a way across besides the water and the bottom is still dirt instead of concrete...some stepping stones would be great..
Tee pads are a little out of the realm of what the YGB/OMB's probably can raise this year on Thursday's, but 18 benches runs around $500 and the labor is free. I was able to install all 19 at Dolese in about 2 weeks with the help of the rest of the Aceholes.
I don't think I will leave any benches unpainted this time though as they have become graffiti benches and don't look as nice as they did originally.

How much was the cost per tee-pad?
Pizza God
Mar 31 2006, 02:13 PM
Cement is something like $90 per yard, it takes 3 yards per tee pad. The city would do the labor if we paid for the material. (at least that is what he told me a few years ago. I have been saving up ever sence)

Hey murphy, what time are you guys playing today? It looks like i may be able to skip out of work a little early and the weather is great for a round. Call me if you get this before you play.
I miss disc golf, i have had to take a break from everything that isnt work right now. because im in debt. :( no good. Im looking for a job that pays me enough that i can move out and support myself, and take night classes to have schooling to fall back on. $6/hr isnt enough, and it sucks. I have a few options like the possibility of an HTML job in richardson. with harte-hanks. Anybody have an inside leads for a M-F job that can get me going? it would be greatly appreciated. ill be back on the course soon enough! i cant wait

I need to update the map, and Stick is getting the correct coordinates Saturday at the mini. All of the baskets are in the ground. Holes 13, 14, and 15 may not be playable yet.
Hole 16 is the one across the pond (labeled 17 on the current map). Go left from the basket and down the trail to find hole 17's tee boxes.

The map is basically correct now.

By the mini Saturday, all of the tees that are playable will be flagged, and red, white, and blue ribbons will be tied in the trees indicating which way to go from the basket to the next tee.

Saturday at Crawford was awesome...I still enjoy the front nine from many months back when Todd and I were out there and it is cleared up even better, but that back nine is amazing. There are some great elevation shots out there and I almost aced on of the new holes that wasn't even cleared out yet. Lionel, Todd, Josh, Krell and I all came out for the round and Rick and Evan hopped in to make a fun round.
Sunday we played GB and then went to shoot the backside at Porter. All the baskets had their bags removed from them and there were tons of players shooting the entire course, so we followed that lead. There isn't a way to go from #5 tee to the basket w/o walking across the water, but I am sure in time we can correct that.
Ryan - I was the Property Preservation Manager for my company. It really just entails memorizing and utilizing HUD regulations on properties in default. Tons and tons of work on a daily basis and it never slows down. I know my company pretty much hired directly through Monster.com, but if you throw a few key words on the resume they would probably call you in. I know they haven't filled the position yet as of today.

whatever happened to dan roark playing d.g. or just helping you with the tourny?
Dan has let me use his tables (which are still in my garage) I have not talked to him sence November. He had been working on a book about his family in East Texas that was about to be published. I don't know if he is working right now.
As far as helping with the tournament, he has been unable to for the last several years. He is on kid duty and his wife frowns on disc golf.

i finally got to crawford, and ytes it has potential. but honestly, it isnt even a disc golf course yet. hole 1 is ok. and theres a couple other holes that are sorta getting there. but there are some that are just atrocious, and need major cutting. how you would play 18 out there right now is beyond me. sorry if that offends anyone - thats not the point. there is awesome potential. but dont think its anywhere near to being a playable course yet.

I seem to remember a few other courses in the area looking like that when the first rounds were played on them.
All of the places where you think there are too many trees are places where we already took out 80% of what was there. We decided to let the others sit for a while and see how it played. There are still places where we were unable to get the city to haul off the trees. They got a little tired of doing it after about the 30th flatbed full of cuttings. We do not have access to a mulcher, so now some stuff just has to sit of the fairways. The time of the few that work has been spent designing cutting and tweaking what is there.
Based on what was there and the manpower available, the course has progressed dramatically. Yes, there is still a lot of nice things that need to be done, but the first thing is still the next 9 holes. It looks like that will be the case for the next few years. At least until there are 72 holes out there.

Despite appearances, the neighborhood actually takes pretty good care of the park. I have not had a problem, and my truck normally has quite a few fairly expensive tools in the back when it is out there. And it has been out there almost every weekend for a year now.

When I talked to Steve yesterday, he said that local people have come up to him and thanked him for being there. Some of the things going on in that part of the park have stopped.
Pat, a few of the holes have not even been started clearing yet.
The rough is going to be rough for a while yet. I can't belive how much more it is opened up from a year ago.

Hole #17 out there was great and already looks like a "ready to play" hole. I am not sure about #18...I love the line on there, but that hill is pretty mushy and hard to navigate..guess we will see what it looks like once cleaned up a bit.
Also, Hole #11 or #12..the straight uphill hole was definately the hole with some potential to be the signature hole. Can't wait to watch people park that hole and the disc roll all the way back to them. It was really fun to play.
I took a 3 on #10..felt like a birdie at least
gnduke
Apr 04 2006, 03:44 PM
A 3 on #10 from is a birdie. Especially if it was from the blue tees. A three from the reds is hard enough. It is a great design where playing for a par (4) should be simple enough, but trying to get a three by driving for daylight is very dangerous.
Last time I played #17, there were too many 1' tall stumps.
#18 is going to be the toughest to clean up. We are going to have to put in a retaining wall and build a path to walk along the pond. We may need one to help firm up the primary landing area as well.

Apr 04 2006, 03:56 PM
We played #10 from the top of the hill, so I guess that was the blue tee...I happened to pull a nice Valk shot all the way down the middle and skipped partly back up the hill..then threw a Buzz right a the basket almost hitting it..had a 5ft drop putt from behind the bucket..

Apr 04 2006, 04:27 PM
All of 10's tees are at the top.
If you played from the basket location of old 9, it's not being used. Just to the right of that and back out of the trees is the Blue Tee.
Keep going around the tree line to the large white rocks, that's the white line.
The red tee is the same one used in mace's event last year.
