crap.... came home and saw three new unread pages on this thread.... thought I was gonna get to read somthin funny.... hoped one of you suckers might have gotten his feelings hurt and decided to go into protest mode that included a running off at the fingers....

but no.... no personal insults.... nobody trying to pick up someone elses wife on the std thread..... just a bunch of crap about why Pat is gonna do bad at the lake cuz its a righty course.... and how bbd is gonna do bad at the lake cuz its a righty course..... (I know bbd is a righty).....

yes that was Anderson at drupping springs....... I am shocked he played am.... there must not have been a omb section and he did not feel up to playing adv....

anyway...... there might have been another comment directed at me in the last few pages but I am too **** lazy to go back and check, so I will answer yes to the last three questions asked.....

so smerf.... cuz I dont want to backtrack could you please post wether we gonna "hit" greenbelt or porter.....

1,2,12,17 lefty??? you are on crack. all three are dead straight. They don't teach you how to count? :) They are not all dead straight. You don't play this course very much to remember all of them that well.

#17 doesnt have the ol tree blocking the righty line anymore. the only reason is might be a lefty hole is that i (a lefty) can reach it and you (a righty) cant! :D The tree still blocks the righty line. Yes, a righty can still reach it, but we all know that an anhyzer shot is a much touchier shot to have to deal with. Just like you said the OB on hole 9 makes it favor righty, and I definitely agree with you.

even considering #1 as one or the other is absurd. its 150 feet downhill with nothing in the way fer crissakes.
Don't most discs want to naturally hyzer at the end of their flight - even at 227'? It's a little more than 150' to the pin from the tee I play on hole 1.

#2 is dead straight also. we both go over the knoll. then i hook right and you hook left. big deal if lefty goes right to early he gets knocked down short. if righty goes wide left, he can still get thru the trees for a look. dead even by any reasonable analysis. Didn't say it was a major favoritism. Yes, it is a straight shot over the hill for both, but you do have a slightly smaller gap to hit for a hyzer shot. There is a freak, huge hyzer shot for right handers, but it is a much harder shot. I've only seen one local that likes to play that shot.

#12 i straight also. a righty can bomb a flat line out there and hyzer glide thru the trees to the pin. to get to the pin, a lefty must annie slighty. mess up the annie and lefty is OB past the white fence. righty has the road fence to think about. this one is dead even also. The pin on 12 is not right by the white fence anymore. It was moved over 2 years ago. It is not a straight or hyzer shot for a righty; it is a slight anhyzer shot, if you want to birdie the hole. Fear of OB is for the righty now, not the lefty.

in determining L vs R advantages, you cannot be super picky. only broad analysis is really valid. there are 7 more holes that offer a real advantage to the righty than there are for the lefty. its really that simple. the Lake is terribly unbalanced. And I do agree there are way too many holes there that favor right handed players - never said anything different. Holes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18 definitely favor rightys. Have a good sidearm shot out to 250' and 8, 14, and 16 can get quite easy for a lefty. I would be quite happy if 14 were reversed so I could be throwing the sidearm on that hole; of course, that's just me since I throw a sidearm more than most right handed players - anything to give me an advantage! BTW, I don't do crack, never have, and I never will. Please don't insinuate that I do.

sandalman
Jul 06 2005, 10:51 AM
ok, what i wrote about #12 was meant for #11. number #12 is pretty much a dead heat, altho i could possibly see maybe a 0.000005 advantage to the lefty.

as far as you, lil stevie parker, i didnt say i was gonna do bad. you are fantasizing again.

and if that was Mr. Anderson of DFW OMB fame, then he was WRONG to play AM2. sanctioned or not, thats just wrong.

reddman
Jul 06 2005, 11:31 AM
I could definitely understand what you were saying then when it comes to hole 11. Every now and then, a stupid right handed throw does go out of bounds, but it is a righty hole.

How in the heck could Anderson get away with playing MA2? Rules are rules - 918 is clearly in MA1. Let's get him on this board so we can flame him! :D Is he playing Advanced Master this Saturday?

OK OK, Everyone calm down! I admit, it was I, Mike Anderson, PDGA #21704 that was in Dripping Springs this past weekend. But, before you attempt to ban me from all further disc golf competition, let me explain.

I arrived at Twin Parks Country Club at about 9:00 am the morning in question. After making my way through the gates and down the dirt road, past numerous baskets and beautiful concrete tee pads and past the practice putting area, I came upon the rustic clubhouse. Upon entering the clubhouse, I was greeted by our old friend from down under. A survey of the interior disclosed to me a multitude of golfer friendly amenities. Several tabels of discs of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Clothes racks, accessories, etc. My eyes wandered to the ping pong table, comfortable chairs, sofa, big screen TV, poker table, snack bar, restroom w/shower, and upstairs to the pool table. Wow! It appeared that this was the place for me.

First tournament was set for 10:00 am. I quickly signed my membership waiver, payed my $5 dues, and signed up for the ace pot and a spot in the ADVANCED division. The course we played was the Hill course from the back tees. I played very solid and finished 2nd, 1 shot behind the winner. After this grueling round it was back to the comfort of the air conditioned clubhouse. A grilled burger and dog and a few cold beverages put me in good shape for the 2:30 doubles event. I partnered up with King Rat in the ADVANCED division, but did not fare to well on the Shire course from the white tees. Oh well, back to the clubhouse, where the first keg of beer had just been tapped.

I warmed up for the ping pong tournament, and enjoyed the free suds. I won my first two matches, putting me in the finals against none other than the Kangaroo man himself. I had heard that Himing had been honing his skills every day in anticpation of this moment. The practice payed off and he defeated me, but not without a fight.

Now it was on the the poker game. No limit Texas Hold-em, $10 buy in, 8 players. More dogs and beer. As the last tournament drew near, I gave my entry fee to Himing between poker hands and told him to sign me up. We had to suspend the poker game as the solar lit glow round was about to start. I was assigned to a card on the 10th hole of the Shire course(we played the red "ace" tees). I didn't know anyone on my card and they all played solidly(I assumed they were advanced players). I felt like I played well and was happy with my score of 54(one 5, two 2's).

Back to the poker game, at this time it was about 1:00 am. Himing called to me and stated that I had some winnings. After I was eliminated from the poker game (4th left, one out of the cash) I went to collect my prizes. I looked at the score sheet and saw that I had won the intermediate division. I was shocked and appalled! Himing had put me in the wrong divsion! I immediatley brought this to his attention and you can all probably imagine his response. "no worries mate, at least you didn't blow them all out". With this I grabbed an Avenger and an MRV and played a couple of games of ping pong before calling it a day.

It is true that I could have refused my payout, but remember I had been there for 15 hours, 3 rounds of golf, sun, beer, ping pong, poker, pool, and maybe my judgement was clouded.

Therefore, with these factors in mind judge me as you will. I contend that I was innocent, and had signed up for two tournaments as advanced and entered the third assuming that the TD would again place me in advanced, only to learn later that he had placed me in MA2.

I attest the the above is true and correct to the best of my knowledge.

last night we had five teams. two of those teams came "pre-packaged", ie they did not draw for partners.

yet when frank wanted to do the same thing you all told him "NO".

after thinking about this, i believe you all owe pinkie an apology. :D

garywatts
Jul 08 2005, 05:03 PM
i dont think we ever told him no, i just pre-dicted what he would say and we would have let you guys be partners, you did not seem to have a problem with it,,
it was all in smack talk,, thats what brought us all together..
and it has been different in the past, if a team is playing in a tourny or in a doubles match and they want to play together to get some practice then go for it..
frank has all ways wanted to call his own partner and when we all said lets flip we all agreed with the exception of frank due to him not having internet access at his new job,, a joke in other words, and after it was all said and done he said most of the things i said he would well other than getting in his truck and going home..
and i will say again no one stoped you two from teaming up that day,, and after we started i wish you two would have because its not alot of fun playing around with some one that really doesnt want to play, not that he didnt, he did very well..
now Frank if you are still [I'm a potty-mouth!] off about that then my apologies to you,, now get over it and come out and play,, call your own partner or what ever it is you want to do..
the reason i wanted to flip is because i dont have a partner to bring out every time, we play causal every weekend and we allways flip, young old what ever..

bambam
Jul 08 2005, 05:16 PM
I'm not sure you're interpreting that clearly, Pat.

May take on it is this... allowing two of the teams to play with chosen partners last night may simply have been a compromise position, one that allowed everyone to play without running any more people off.

In my mind, I don't necessarily like the idea of "bring your partner", unless we do it on rare occasions. However, it's a better option than losing more players.

Mr. Parker you have clearly misread my meaning... I was making a comment about BamBam's inability to come up with something original. I don't get my feelings hurt *that* easily :) I was going to try to play dubs today, but I've been napping a little to try and reset my sleep schedule for tomorrow. My most recent attempt at a 2-hr nap turned into a 4-hr one, so I'm too late for dubs :(

Anyway, I think frank has some misconception about what our little group was when it started. I also think he is too proud to simply just admit that he is wrong and start having fun with us again. Someday it will all blow over, but until we let it go.

bbd you guys are all way wrong. std started out and was bring your partner period. it started with you and smurph, the d's and i forget the rest.

the night you guys tricked me into flipping is true i did not like it, but i told everyone then i was only out for that night only.

i've said all along i'm out on std's until it gets back to what it was. good smack talking dubs. omb vs. ygb which is what it was all about. but i'm not driving across town for a surprise partner. especially when were keeping records. and i'll take butterfly anyday for a partner. it got to where sometimes you guys didn't even care if it was omb vs. ygb.

hey if it never gets back to that, then that's cool i'll see you guys out on the course and spank you myself. :D

yeah, it started as the D's v.s me and murphy b/c we were having fun talking smack and taking it to the course... it wasn't my idea to keep records, but I am on board with flipping. it's not a surprise. it's the same group of guys playing golf. It's not as much about the winning or losing, it's about having fun with a group of people we like to hang out with. yeah, that means you too, ya old freak. Who really cares who wins? We talk smack to the losers AND the winners, so what does it matter? We just have fun smacking and golfing and drinking beer and telling phag jokes to make watts phreak out and playing different courses and giving the rest of the board an interesting thread to read :)... that's what it has always been about. It's still about that. why try and screw it up? It's not like you're losing money when you lose. You're not losing rating points. you're just supposed to shrug it off like the rest of us and talk even more smack about next week. Or rub our noses in it when we make a bad shot or lose by a stroke or do something stupid or say something retarded...

Anyway, my oncall is over. I'm playing next week. I'm whooping on OMBs, be it can't-parker, filthy toes, or phagboy butterfly. You wanna show up? I'll whoop on you too. /smack!

long answer:

i signed up to play the Lake and LLWoods. i played the Lake. there was no opportunity to play LLW in the context of the event. there was however the opportunity to play a 3 3/4 hour round on a course the should be played in two hours tops, even with a full field. i guess ghost cards have something to do with that - even though the planned second course lay empty. it was important to me for certain reasons to play as many different courses as possible over the next few weeks. thats why i signed up for this event in the first place. when that opportunity was not delivered as promised, i had no real reason to stick around and play the pathetic lake course twice in one day. instead, i went and played another course, and learned a few things i never would have learned at the lake. not to mention the idi[/b]ocy of using ghost cards instead of two courses. and the idio[/b]cy putting the novice girls on the same tees on an already overcrowded.course.

short answer:

mark its none of your business, so [I'm a potty-mouth!] the [I'm a potty-mouth!] off.

i played the Lake. there was no opportunity to play LLW in the context of the event.

Translation: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Actually, there was one reason to play. You know, when you sign up to play a tournament around all your "friends" and you get a big field to compete with? That's why a lot of people actually finish the tourneys they sign up for. I mean, I quit once. When I couldn't walk or throw. And it dam near killed me to do it. I guess it wasn't that hard for you though, huh?

baldguy
Jul 10 2005, 04:51 AM
oh, and just to put my $0.02 in to back Chris up, he didn't have much help today. Mr. Agpalo was helping with sales, and Laura was helping between (and probably after) rounds, but he didn't have the people necessary to manage a round at the other course. That being said, I would have also rather played LL today... but I understand the reasons for not doing so. It could have been faster with am on one course and Pro on the other. Not like it matters to me at this point... I was *so* not ready to play in a tourney this week. Any other tournament I probably would have passed up.. but the TX10 Lewisville will always be on my calendar. It was my first tournament (other than minis), and I will play it as long as it exists. I'm still trying to figre out why you didn't ask for a refund once you heard that the format changed. I'm sure that if Chris had known how disappointed you were *before* the first round, he would have refunded your money and you could have played 2 courses for free today.

ANYWAY

What's the course for this week's STD? Greenblet or Porter? Somewhere else? I'm in.

sandalman
Jul 10 2005, 11:07 AM
why didnt i ask for a refund? first, i'm not throwing a tantrum about this, altho la marka would like me to. chris's decision meant my plans changed. i DID want to play the lake once, and i played it once. second, why jerk the rest of the divison around? i played one round, everyone knew the size of the division and the payout, so why mess with all that. third, asking for my money back would have been a hassle for chris, i'm sure. fourth, i dont mind contributing to the lance cause. tell ya the truth, the thought never occured to me until i read your post. its not something i would do.

sandalman

One man's excuse is another man's reason, Pat.

My reason(s) for not finishing Cedar Hill, which you do not know as well as you seem to think you do, were real to me, just as your reason for not finishing yesterday is to you. Your reason is no more or less valid than mine. That should be the end of the discussion.

However, because of your hardline position in the past on people who DNF tournaments, you are going to get a lot of the same, from me and others. There is a simple way to make this issue go away, Pat, but you'll never do it.

I don't know if this is going to sound rude, but I hope not... it's just fact.

You're right - I did say I was not coming back to CH because I was playing bad and not having fun. It's what I told most people.

However (and this is the potentially rude part ), you're not exactly in what I would consider my "inner circle", and therefore, were not privvy (sp?) to ALL the information. As the old saying goes, it was a "need to know" situation, and you didn't need to know /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Nothing mean, nothing out of the ordinary... just like I'm sure I'm not part of your inner circle, Pat. We just haven't know each other that long, or that well, that's all.

If you insist on believing that bad play and a lack of fun were the only reasons I DNF'd, then more power to ya, friend.

But you'll be wrong.

Now wait... your "plan" had many facets, only one of which was playing more than one course. I'm not sure that I agree with you assertion that you didn't quit. You did *not* finish the tourney, that much is indisputable. Also, there are many ways to "adapt to the situation" that still allow you to finish the tourney you "planned" to play. I'm sure that it gives you comfort to think that you didn't quit, but that doesn't change the facts.

It should be noted that I couldn't give less of a rat's as[/b]s whether you quit or not. I do, however, enjoy debating semantics.

bam, well you sure cant hold it against me that i take you at your word. if there was something else going on in your life, fine. i only heard the words you said.

my not playing the second round did not have anything to do with my place in the division. i told several people before the round that i did not expect to win or even cash.

i am trying to get ready for worlds in flagstaff. i have never seen those courses before - so i am trying to play as many different courses as possible as part of my preparation. playing the same course twice in one day did not cut it. had i known it would have been both rounds at the lake, i would not have played. i would have probably gone over to weatherford and hit z-boas on the way back, or played the coyote. (both have the nice wooded tight fairways that we'll see in flagstaff.)

did i "quit" the event in the strictest definition of the term, and the narrowest possible view of the situation? yes. did i "quit" what i set out to do that day, and in the situation as it was from my own perspective? no way. as i've said before, playing a second round at the lake would have constituted quitting.

now bam, you did not make me privy to your closely held reasons. thats fine, for all the reasons you stated. i, however, am telling you exactly what my reasoning was for what i did. if you choose to completely disregard my reasons then you are in the wrong. why is it so difficult to say understand where i am coming from on this? (i think its cuz you dont WANT to understand, not because you cant)

i'd be interested to know what was said at the players meeting afterwards (if anything). i really cant imagine chris saying anything negative.. its not his style.

Am I the only one who sees the irony in Pat calling us (and apparently everyone else who participated on Saturday) idiots? Especially when he calls our referring to him quitting as the "narrowest possible view" of the situation? Oh, and then he says it doesn't bother him? Pat, if it really didn't bother you, we wouldn't still be talking about it :) You of all people should be able to see that.

Murphy, I might be able to make it this afternoon. I'm off today, but I do need to mow the yard and run a couple of errands... I'll holla.

as far as calling all 95 players at the meeting "id[/b]iots", i would like to clarify exactly what i would say to them if they were all gathered in front of me right now:

aha. no, there was a person out there who was basically saying the official rules are wrong, because in his opinion the rules did not conform to his idea of the spirit of the game. he actually cited the spirit of the game as being something that supercedes the official rulebook. it was quite humourous, especially because a discussion of the same rule occured with him last week! :D

reddman
Jul 12 2005, 09:04 AM

bambam
Jul 12 2005, 10:02 AM
I don't know who Kyle Taylor is, either. Could it be KT, of Lake course and The Colony fame?

The only two locations I know of that Frisco was ever considering for a DG course are Frisco Commons Park, and the proposed park site off of 4th Army Memorial. I think DORBA still has claim on the 4th Army Memorial location (they call it Hawk's Hill Trail), even though I've never seen more than one or two riders out there at a time.

And Reddman's correct... I'm not in Frisco, anymore. I wouldn't go so far as to say I don't care, but I certainly care less today than I did a few weeks ago. :D

baldguy
Jul 12 2005, 10:46 AM
The KT you're referring to is Kenny Tuck... so that's not him.

bambam

there has been alot of drama in the std thread the last 2 months....(that is a stern face to let you phags (all you phags, not just gary (gary watts is the special phag, gary duke is an ordinary phag covered by the other part) know that this is a serious post.... that Im not just clowning around here)... the drama we have had has been pinkie protesting (I might be the only one that has not posted his opinion on pinks protest) reddman bagging in am and getting his ***** kicked.... I could go on and on if I could think of more stuff but I cant.... but it is there.....

the one thing that I think we can all agree on is that this turbulent season of std's has proven what it has set out to prove.... that on any given day that you assemble a fair representation of this group you will get the old guys taking 2 of the top 3 spots... and 9 out of 10 times the old guys take the top spot....

that being said, it is MY opinion that std as we know it (and there seems to be quite a bit of confusion as to the history of this gathering of students and teachers) might have run its course.... desire has been expressed to play with partners of different generations.... Im pretty sure that krell and I could whip any team pink put pugether (thats together spelled with a p so it would match the previous two words) and would welcome the chance to do so....

at risk of becoming an outcast to all age groups (I have already been banished from the ladies over 50 bingo parlor)... I want to say that secretly at all the past stds I have wanted to spank ALL your asses (I did not try to disguise that word cuz I have never gotten the potty mouth censure and want to see if this does it).... and I am willing to partner up with whoever it takes to do it regardless of his age or sexual persuasion....

so I suggest (being serious again) that we morph this thing into a king-of-the-hill kind of thing... we can even do something along the lines of the losers have to wash myself and my partners discs after the round....

I could give a rats ***** about rules.... you show up.... you lose to my partner and myself.... you wash.... if you want to bring your own team... fine... bring your handi wipes with you.... if we got 2 prefab teams that day and 8 who want to flip.... so be it.... it would be interesting to see how a prefab team would fair week in and week out against the teams that lady luck has seen fit to join together in competitive harmony for a couple of hours....

remember... im being serious here

biatches.... :D(that part was a joke)

did i "quit" the event in the strictest definition of the term, and the narrowest possible view of the situation? yes. did i "quit" what i set out to do that day, and in the situation as it was from my own perspective? no way. as i've said before, playing a second round at the lake would have constituted quitting.

Hey Pat, have you ever thought about running for office? That was brilliant. I know you're full of crap and even I was buying that. Kudos.
