it's hard to explain on here but it's kinda of like match play. it's a good time i'm gonna do it again this year.

If I can get away for team golf, I will be there. I just have a ton of family in town. Parker, it's worth it! If I can go, I'll give you a call and we can ride over together. :cool:

team golf:

each team same number of players, seeded
all players in same seed level play together on a card

lets say four teams, six players each team... so six cards of four each.

on a card, each player will play each other player for 6 holes - called a "match"

you get one point for each hole you win. tied holes are lost forever. at the end of six holes, whichever player had more points wins one team point for his team. tied matches award 1/2 point to each team.

at the end, all of the points each team earned against each other team are added. that is, if two Teams A players beat their Team B opponents, and the other four tied, then Team A wins against Team B 4-2, and gets one overall match point. (for the victory over B)

whichever team gets the most overall match points is the winner.

I meant that I will be at Crawford Wednesday clearing, and may also be at Crawford on Thursday "playing" with a chainsaw. Holes 8 & 9 are really the only holes on the front that requires extensive clearing, and I would really like to finish the front before the weekend so the weekend can be spent on the back (top) 9. If we could get 3 or 4 days with crews like the ones that showed up for Cedar Hill, this course could be going in the ground in less than a month. We're really just clearing the edges and underbrush out of holes that are already basically there. It is quite different than it was at the DFWFD already.

Besides, the temps this week look a lot better than they will in July and August.

after all the BS last week i will wait and see what is going on and then deside if I want to play,, and I have a meeting at 3pm and not sure what time it will be over. :(
I do not want to have any thing to do with the picking of the course. It would be nice if we knew where we were going to play before the day of so every one can be ready.

hey we can use any of you guys that want to help wedn. night. at crawford. steve now has all the baskets and it looks like he now has d.d.g. behind him. the mini for wedn. night is not being held at b.b. so they can come out and work. this park is really coming along now.and i told steve i would post here and see if i could get some std support.

as far as thurs.go i'm going to make my choice real simple. i like woody and watts and everyone else want to keep this thing going. but i'm not doing it anymore unless we pick 2 or 3 courses for a rotation. it's the easiest and most logical thing to do. from all the discussion on here carrolton and aud. and i hate to say it even b.b. are the 3 that is the easiest for the majority to get to. i would love to mention the lake in there ryan but i'm just talking about from past discussion on here where the lake is not practical to most of us. those three are my vote. it can be real easy to set a rotation and cut out the weekly course bickering. anyways what do you guys think. those three are just an example so let's get this going.

635 south to elam exit then go right. go 2 or 3 miles, you'll go past masters to another intersection ( not sure of the name ) but you can't miss it. you'll see the park off to the left turn left there and go down to the last entrance on the right turn and we'll be there. when you first see the park from elam it will be soccer fields that's where you make the left.

ok, back from Vegas and into the confusion that the STD has become :) If I need to, I can put my website back up so that we can start voting on courses... or at least put up a calendar so that once we decide on a rotation, the calendar can serve as a reference. Last year I tried to organize a rotation of 3-4 courses plus one wildcard week that we would vote on. If everyone wants to try that again, it's still possible.

Anyway....

On the drive to Las Vegas, we had intended to play several courses along the way. Because we got behind schedule Friday night, we had to skip the first few stops. We did, however, get to play the NAU course in Flagstaff, AZ. That course is... awesome. I mean, WOW. The terrain is nothing like any courses I have played here in TX, so that might have been part of why it seemed so cool. Huge pine trees and really rocky soil made for a different playing surface than I'm used to. The elevation changes throughout the course provided some shots that we just don't get to throw around here. A couple of boom-boom holes a couple of short birdie holes, and a *lot* of technical, scenic, fun times holes through the woods. Crawford Park will have some holes that give us some similar surroundings, so I'm looking forward to playing there. If we have any NAU-area golfers lurking on this thread... much props to a great course. Consider yourself fortunate :) My only complaints could have been easily resolved if I had taken the time to find and print out a course map. Or, if someone put up some "Next tee -->" signs :D

As for the course I played in LV... horrible. Most holes were covered with people laying in the shade under trees or playing some sport other than DG in the middle of fairways. It is poorly marked, poorly laid out, and really not very challenging (judging by the 6-7 holes we were actually able to play). Someone needs to build a good course or two in LV, or at least work towards raising awareness at the courses already installed. There were 2 seperate teepads on opposite sides of the park... with portable grills on them and families nearby having picnics. They could have easily moved 50 feet and been completely out of the way, but as one very large woman told me, "We always barbecure here. We ain't movin." No, I did not misspell barbecue. If there are any LV golfers lurking here... please, for the love of pete, do something about the horrible DG conditions in your city! Have an event, give away some old discs, give demonstrations, put up some big signs. Let people learn how DG can co-exist in a park with all the other activities. From what I hear, the head of the LV parks dept. (who is apparently anti-DG) is about to resign, and a new pro-DG person will replace him. Maybe then things will be better. As for now... bring cash to LV, but leave the discs at home.

So, since Friday night, I helped my buddy pack up his life, drove 1250 miles (pulling a U-Haul trailer), gambled and won a few hundred bucks, played 2 new courses, and had a blast doing all of it. What did everyone else do while I was gone? :D

BTW, as my post count has neared the 1100 mark... I notice that the titles have changed. We are all just "Disc Golfers" now? weak....

It looks like we will be at Samuel Crawford tomorrow. I think it will be mostly marking, but maybe a little clearing as well.

The work crew schedules are fairly sporadic, so instead of having to be there pointing at what needs to be cut, Steve is going to mark the areas that need to be cleared. You should come out and take a look around, it is not the same course we used for the DFWFD event. This will really be something special.

I may do so if I don't see the gang wanting some GB..if so..I'll see it soon...how many doing the JDGF this weekend?...so far this year ADV - OMB and YGB have been in the same field.

hey, Team Twatt took the number one ranked OMB team in DFW all the way to the 71st hole two weekends ago. The T component has been strong for a couple years now. the Watt factor was steadier then ever and was booming drives the whole time even on the last hole. the smart money knows that Team Twatt has locked up its claim as the #2 dubs team in the Plex.

We're still waiting for them to step up and prove it at STD events.

o.k. you still didn't answer what omb team was beat. it looks like parker teamrd with a ygb. yes duke and i were at crawford last night. and you may not agree but i have a thing with t.d.'s charging a late fee. i can see if you sign up 30 minutes before tee time then charge it or don't even let you in. but i'm not signing up early anymore to get there and play a 3 man div. hey it's tom's loss that's 90 dollars in entry fees he lost from me now just because of that late fee.i do know other players who feel the same way so he's giving up more than that. :eek:

If there are no teams from one side it is a forfeit. It works both ways. There's nothing to whine about.

just because 1 OMB STD'er plays a course on a Thursday, doesn't make it the STD. Silly sandal-boy. We had 8 regular STD players there. Mark Paired up with Mr. Parker since mark is the oldest YGB... despite a good effort, the OMB team did not prevail. Too bad the OMBs didn't have more of a showing, but that was their choice. Sure, Duke and Frank were doing the good work on a new course, but there are at least 4 other OMB STDers that could have made it and decided to forfeit. Act your age, gentlemen. The YGBs did not complain like this last year when we had only one or two show up.

Does this mean we will be settling on a rotation list some time soon ? I have no problem with Carrolton, Audubon, Carrolton being the main 3 with other courses on the 4th weeks.

Which other courses could fall into the rotation for the 4th week ? Lake Lewisville, Bear Creek, Colony, BB, McKinney ?

I'm good with that too. I have adjusted my work hours around the STD, so I leave at 4:30 on Thursdays. I can make just about any park in DFW by 6:00 unless something comes up... and I ain't skeered of traffic :)

Sounds like a scheduled rotation will be good, keep everyone from crying all the time! I am okay with all of the course suggestions, but it will take me until around 6:00 to get to some of them. :D
Frank does not play with us anymore cause he knows his time is past, so he uses excuses to cover it up, working on a new course or doesn't like to pay for things or there was pink string, blah blah blah!!!

Hold on to your butts everyone.... I agree with Frank :D. I wasn't decided on this tournament, but at this point, it looks like if I want to play, I have to pay more than everyone else to enter. Late fees are an easy way to keep participation at a minimum. The JDGF is still a great organization and I admire the work he does for the kids. I will play another event, when I can plan far enough in advance to get in at a decent rate.

first of all this forfeit thing is bogus. not one omb except parker said he would be at porter. this did come up once before and i was kidding and said well they forfeit and everybody was like no way. if this is the case then we have to play the vet next because pat is an stdr and he has called this course for thursday. i know pat and claydog can make it i can make it. so here comes 7 and 3. :eek: pat if duke can't make i'll bring another omb partner and we'll do the vet thursday.

I issued the forfeit. It was discussed on here before it happened. There was hope that someone besides the DDs would be there to defend, but only Steve made it out. That's how it goes. It was almost a forfeit the week before when Steve and I were the only OMBs there. If one of us had not made it, it would have been a forfeit them too.

For real. I hurt it earlier this year, and haven't been able to throw overhand without pain for several months. I'll try it once or twice a round to see how it is doing, and it's not getting better. I'm afraid it'll take a couple of months with no throwing at all.

I guess it'll give me time to work on my putting.

As for Sandalman being an STDer and calling the course.... don't ya think maybe you'd need to *play* an STD before you can be an "STDer" and get the privilege of "calling a course"? Also, last week, the only OMB that showed up was Mr. Parker. There were lots of other OMBs that *could* have come but didn't. I applaud your hard work on the new park, and regret not being able to make it that far South in time to help. It wasn't a "forfeit" since Steve and Mark did put up a valiant effort in the name of the OMB crew, but they lost... so it was a "win."

Regardless, Frank, if the Vet is where you want to play, I'm in. Who else is coming? Parker? Duke? Tabor? I know Watts won't drive that far... After this week, though, I think a rotation is necessary. GB, Porter, the Bon are all popular places to play, and get good turnouts. Having a 4th week be a wildcard ensures that we have some variety, even if not everyone is willing to drive to the wildcard course. If only 1 YGB shows up and his team loses... then it's a win for the OMBs, and vice versa.

ANYWAY...

It's just the normal ebb and flow. There have been spells when almost no one for either side showed up, and days when we have to split into groups to play. I want to play without pain, and only time off will help that. It's a regularly scheduled thing, and ties are not permitted. I have no problem with a forfeit, but I won't be playing for a while so my vote doesn't count.

i think i'll just pass on the whole thing, vet or no vet. my mom's in town and this is the last week for her to be here. besides, i wouldnt wanna get all you dallas boys in an uproar about having to come over to arlington in order to expand your little group. i'll just continue to kick your ygb butts at regular tourneys and events. sorry to hear about the injury. My shoulder did that to me a couple months ago, as you'll remember. I tried to keep playing through it, but that didn't work. I took about a week off and then took it easy after that. Luckily I had some celebrex left over :).

Jay Bitner has been playing with us almost all season... he's shot better rated rounds than most people I've met. He's an OMB... I'm sure Pizza God would appreciate the compliment you gave him here, but I don't think he's a "ringer." Compare his and PTs ratings with the OMB regulars... but, I guess OMBs will always find something to whine about, even when they (the OMBs) practically begged us (the YGBs) to bring in ringers!

Pat might be talking about the ringers that I have tried to bring out at the Vet for this week. I was looking at the following list for my partners: John, Pepper, Nolan. I would classify them as ringers! :cool:

i think from now on ya oughta play mixed one OMB with one YGB... draw style... track scores... lowest average score at end of season wins it. that way no penalty for missing, no omb vs ygb nonsense... play with diff folks, etc. ie play together instead of against each other

as far as I am concerned we are all just golfers that enjoy playing with each other since we have the same fun, smack and pure enjoyment of the game...don't even need a name and I agree fully...last year I tried to push flip doubles but that didn't happen...

atleast a solid rotation could build upon bigger horizons if we chose to go there...
