Blendon Woods Disc Golf Course

Course Reviews
My personal favorite course but as has been noted above they have gone too far in clearing it out. It is a short course and allows more focus on skill and placement and less reliance on a big arm. You used to be able to play a shady round in the summer but with all the trees removed it is not nearly as nice. There are nice picnic facilities available for after the round or between a doubleheader.
time was I would have rated it higher but in the last year they've cleared out too many trees and took away a lot of the challenge of the course, that being said it's still a nice short course so if you're a beginner, don't have a lot of time for a round or want to golf and still take it easy it's a fun round. If you haven't got your ace for the year yet this course is a must plus they have nice gathering facilities for afterwards(shelter houses, grills etc.) great for families or anyone who wants to work on short shot placement.
pros:
well manicured fairways
short (good for beginners)
little proshop with snacks
a couple of interesting holes (elevation change on #10 and #13, off camber right turn on #6, etc.)
cons:
short
rough can get pretty bad (thorns and p.i.)
pay to play (only a buck and a half, but still...)
LOTS of poison ivy
can get pretty muddy on parts of the back 9 (#16 in particular)
overall, this is a great course. good for singlediscing. several aceable holes (#8...you'll see). Stay out of the rough.
Fun to play under the large old trees of Blendon Woods, very scenic Robin Hood-like forest, and because of the compactness of the course all underbrush where discs might be thrown has been previously trampled, so all is seen as very clean, almost manicured woods. Unfortunately, I could par the whole course with a Roc (a stable midrange, for you Discraft folk) if I wanted - there's barely a hole that can't be aced with a lond midrange throw. It's a nice change of pace I suppose, and an experienced player can fly through the course, but considering the fee I'd rather have more of a variety of challenges. Also a product of the shortness, most holes are one-dimensional (this is straight; this is right; this is a screen of trees; etc). At some point since the 80s they might have considered lengthening several holes. In addition, the paved radius around each basket is really odd - it will certainly eat non-champion plastic discs for breakfast, and adds a challenge you don't expect: if your drive hits too close to the basket you skip off the pavement farther than if you'd simply thrown it short...
In all I had fun, but my mind was allowed to wander a lot while playing. It's low stress, low challenge, and I don't know when I'll go back. Its probably a good course to take friends to, especially introducing them to the sport, as you can make more of a social event of it and no one will feel too much at a disadvantage.
This is a very short course that leans more on the technical shots, rather than length. Very well manicured and maintained. Word of caution though, they have about a 10' radius "green" around each basket that is asphalt. Eats discs for breakfast. Use a putter you don't care for, or just don't miss!

Fun short course. Great for beginners but still fun for good players.
