The Charlotte 2012 PDGA Pro/Am World Championships Name the Official Host Hotel & Solicit Course Directors

Charlotte is preparing to host the largest and most prestigious disc golf tournament in the world this summer, and has named The Blake Hotel as the host hotel for the 2012 Professional Disc Golf Association Pro/Am World Championships, July 16-21.

“We are very pleased to have The Blake on board,” said 2012 Worlds Tournament Director Sam Nicholson. “It is a first-class hotel located in center city Charlotte that will be a perfect complement to this world-class tournament.”

The Blake Hotel, in downtown Charlotte at 555 S. McDowell Street, is a full-service convention hotel located just a few blocks from the heart of Charlotte’s vibrant bar, restaurant and cultural district, the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Metropolitan Center with its restaurants and shopping. Across the street from The Blake is Marshall Park, offering an expanse of green for relaxing, practice and catch discs.

A very favorable room rate of $89/night is being offered from July 13-22. Reservations are being accepted now and can be made using the promo code “Disc” online at:

You may also book by phone at 1-888-664-6835 using the identifier “Combined World Disc Golf Championships.”

The combined 2012 PDGA Pro/Am Worlds Championships will draw as many as 1,100 players to Charlotte to compete on 14 courses, all within 30 minutes of The Blake, which is located adjacent to the city’s inner beltway and just a short distance from interstate highways I-77 and I-85. Wherever you’re going, you can get there easily from The Blake Hotel.

All official functions of the World Championships will be located at The Blake: player registration, the Players Meeting and the Flymart/Expo. And a nice touch is that the hotel will be providing $2 beer specials for tournament players and their guests in the hotel bar and during functions.

The 2012 PDGA Pro/Am World Championships, with proceeds to benefit the American Red Cross, will unfold over five days of competition as professionals and amateurs vie for World Titles in 20 divisions.

“We anticipate the working version course schedule will be released in January,” said Nicholson, “and registration is slated to begin in the spring.”

Also in preparation for the 2012 Worlds, the host Local Organizing Committee is seeking experienced tournament and course directors to oversee the 14 courses to be used during tournament week, July 16-21.
“This event will showcase our county’s wide variety of quality layouts,” said Bill Jacobson, Director of Operations for the combined events. “I’m looking for 14 course directors and 14 assistant course directors for the courses to be used in the 2012 Pro/Am Worlds. Those best suited for this role are certified officials and experienced tournament directors.”

Volunteers for other event functions are being recruited, as well. If you’d like to help at what could be the largest combined World Championships ever, please email Bill Jacobson at [email protected] with your experience and availability.

Make your reservations at The Blake Hotel today. It is expected that The Blake Hotel will be completely booked during Championship Week due to the tournament, ongoing convention business and early bookings for the upcoming Democratic National Convention to be held a few blocks away.
