After the last round of the 2016 USDGC was canceled due to complications from Hurricane Matthew, everybody including players, fans, and staff were excited to see the return on the Championship and for it to begin in pleasant weather.
With a high of 81 degrees and light winds, Wednesday’s Round 1 was the kind of weather perfect for a picnic. In fact, one spectator family looked to be doing just that not far from Hole 16’s green.

Disc golf history was made at the USDGC during Saturday’s final round when Paul McBeth #27523 won his first USDGC and completed disc golf’s Grand Slam in the process when he beat Richard Wysocki #38008 by five strokes.
Coming from three strokes behind to start the day, McBeth shot a 61 (-6), overtaking Round 3 leader Nate Sexton #18824, then eventually outlasting Richard Wysocki when Wysocki stumbled on Hole 17, clearing the way for a McBeth victory.
Despite a soggy Saturday Morning in Rock Hill, S.C., a strong showing of 25 ladies shrugged off the rain to take part in the 2015 Throw Pink Event at Fewell Park in Rock Hill, S.C.
The all-female event began last year and is designed to be a relaxing, comfortable way for women and girls to get a first crack at disc golf, all while helping put an end to breast cancer via Throw Pink.
With one round left to play for the US Championship, Nate Sexton #18824 and his superb sidearm continue to lead the field at (-23), while Paul McBeth #27523 and Richard Wysocki #38008 made big moves during Friday’s Round 3 to jump to second at (-20) after they both shot a 57 (-10).
After a successful inaugural event last year, Throw Pink returns to Rock Hill, S.C., where women and girls can learn disc golf while helping put an end to breast cancer.
The EDGE program continues to lead the way in introducing disc golf to the next generation. Started in 2001, EDGE (Educational Disc Golf Experience) is a non-profit that introduces disc golf to students by providing disc golf curriculum and equipment packages to schools.
2008 US Champ Nate Doss #11794 took early control of the USDGC leaderboard during Wednesday’s Round 1 after his blistering 56 (-11), while defending US Champ Will Schusterick #29064 skidded hard concluding his round and finished with a 69 (+2).
The Performance Flight saw some heated competition last week at the USDGC. Coming from behind, Taylor Maslowski demolished his projected 81 by 13 strokes on Saturday in a round that ended up being the best performance by anyone in the flight this week.
“I’m just thankful. It went really well. I was able to put one together,” said Maslowski, of Concord, Mass., who ended up beating his projected by a total of 28 strokes.
