It's been a long and trying week at the 2023 PDGA Amateur and Junior Disc Golf World Championships.
More than 800 players were tested in a number of ways: Mother Nature, the courses and the strong competition that traveled to the Peoria, Illinois area from around the world.
Things heated up in the chase for a PDGA World title on Friday at the 2023 PDGA Amateur and Junior Disc Golf World Championships.
And, yes, Mother Nature played a factor as storms forced a tournament-wide weather delay. At this point, the 800-plus player field is used to it and continues to battle through.
Poor air quality from wildfires forced suspensions on Tuesday and a full cancellation of Wednesday's rounds. The Air Quality Index improved, but the weather's second punch included heavy lightning, wind and rain on Thursday, forcing even more suspensions.
Please see below for important updates to the event schedule for Friday and Saturday. These changes are designed to ensure competitors in both the Amateur and Junior divisions can play a revised schedule that most closely resembles the original event schedule.
(Latest update as of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28)
After reviewing the most recent data regarding the air quality in the Peoria, Illinois area, the PDGA and tournament staff have made the difficult decision to suspend play on Wednesday for the day, resulting in changes to the schedule for the rest of the week.
This is a decision that did not come lightly, and one made with the safety of all competitors in mind.
In accordance with the PDGA Mid-Event Suspension & Cancellation Guidelines Policy, this is a message alerting you that the Air Quality Index in the Peoria, Area has risen about the 100 level, which indicates that the AQI is “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.”
PDGA and tournament staff will continue to monitor the AQI. Stay tuned to your email, the official tournament app and PDGA.com for the latest updates.
Divisional Doubles and Field Event payouts will be consolidated and sent via email as a gift card redeemable at the Amateur/Junior Worlds Pro Shop or online as noted in the email.

Amateur Worlds, Junior Worlds, and both Masters Worlds invite lists have been modified for clarity concerning which division(s) an invitee may register for during which registration tier. During a ratings-based registration tier, invitees may only register for those divisions for which they were invited to that tier based on their player rating. If an invitee has multiple registration tier invites, they will now appear twice on the invite list shown in Red Text.
Please note that masters worlds has two separate documents: one for professional, one for amateur.
