Competition Manual for Disc Golf Events
5.10 X-Designated Events
Last updated: Monday, January 20, 2025 - 18:53
- The added “X” designation means that there is some material variance from the Official Rules of Disc Golf and/or Competition Manual that goes beyond a basic waiver. It applies to alternative competitive formats, non- standard rules that render rounds unratable, events with restricted eligibility requirements, and events with modified payout requirements. Only X-designated events that use alternative formats and/or unratable non-standard rules do not receive ratings.
- Alternative Competitive Formats (not ratable). These are events where the format of play is not standard singles medal play, such as doubles, team events, non-basket courses, winner-take-all, skins, match play, vintage, and overall events.
- Unratable Non-Standard Rules (not ratable). These are events with non-standard rules that go beyond a simple waiver, such as throw-and-distance penalties or mulligans. Any non-standard rules must be pre-approved by the PDGA Director of Event Support who will work with the Tournament Director to make sure the non-standard rules can be rated if at all possible. See the Use of Non-Standard Rules at PDGA-Sanctioned Events document for more details.
- Restricted Eligibility Requirements (ratable). These are events where eligibility is limited based on citizenship and/or residence (example: a state decides to have their State Championships open to only players from that state) or PDGA Club member status. These events are ratable so as long as they do not use alternative competitive formats and do not have non-ratable non-standard rules.
- Modified Payout Requirements (ratable). These are events run under the Competition Endowment Program to raise funds for a designated 501(c)(3) charity or scholastic disc golf program or team. All CEP events must be approved by the PDGA Event Support Team. Net entry fees are reduced by the amount donated per-player to the charity when calculating payout. These events are ratable so as long as they do not use alternative competitive formats and do not have non-ratable non-standard rules.
- X-designated events are sanctioned as XM, XA, XB, and XC in accordance with tier guidelines and player points are awarded accordingly.
- All X-designated event formats must be pre-approved by the PDGA Event Support Team.
- Formats at B-tier and above are limited to Singles, Doubles, Team, and Match Play. Other event formats will be considered by the PDGA Event Support Team upon request.
- Regardless of the format used, results must be easily convertible to PDGA divisions for player point calculation and data entry. For this reason, divisional doubles (pro, advanced, etc.) and mixed doubles (male/female) cannot be combined within the same event and will require separate TD Reports.
