The Beadless Wizard should be kinda mid-rangeish /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I'm pretty sure we have 2 or 3 more mid-ranges coming out of the Chicago plant before too long. we are going to submit 8 new discs before the end of the year, but cant get all 25 new discs into full production for a few months.
Their should be a san marino roc and a 21 cm san marino roc as well.

There will be a few variations of the teebird.
10X is just a run from the same mold all of the others are ran.
What exactly is so special about this certain run?
I have about 10 different variations of the TEE bird and TL by shape, but do not have a 10X.
Do you have enough "other teebirds" to loook closely and compare it too others?
If you want to know how to compare here are a few ways.
Lay both on a flat table side by side noticing the parting line, which one is higher off the table and which one is closer?
Now flip them over and look at the parting lines again, which ever line is higher off the table is the domier one.
You can also look at the concaves on the wing or the transition from nose to center over the top.
Even .005 difference can be a huge factor at 50 MPH.
Flexiblity and surface friction can also decide flight chracteristic.
Gummy grippy discs of this speed could hang longer on the glide pattern before falling off.

I throw super-gummy candy plastic almost exclusively for driving, and I, indeed, have found this to be the case in extensive field testing against stiff "CE-like" candy drivers.

Dave,

Yep. They're often listed as "hybrid" 10x's on ebay...there were a few runs of different plastic (I've got some 10x's out of 9x plastic that aren't near as nice), but the ones everyone makes a big deal about (including me) have a mix of CE plastic and SE plastic. Somewhere on the Dave D thread he talks about 2 runs, with do different percentages of the 2 plastics. Basicly, the 10x birds felt like a slightly more rigid SE teebird, but were way more durable.
As far as your comparison methods, I've had domey and flat 10x's. In general, the ones that seem to have more SE plastic than CE plastic get a bit more domey, but this is just my observation.

Comparing a new disc to something similar to another brand of disc in this thread shouldnt be that big of a deal.
We, ( Innova, Discraft and Gateway) players have been making cross comparisons for over 20 years, if it was a problem I think I would have heard by now.
I doubt we make any advertising copy using the word tee bird though.
This thread is to help players who want to try our discs that are not familar with them, hopefully its not offensive to Innova and more of a compliment.
Up until now our discs were not copies or clones but all had their own Identities seperate from anything else out there.
With the increase in popluarity of our products getting us more players interested in trying out our discs, the demand for "like discs" is getting too high. We have a bit of a cult following and some players would rather throw a tee-bird style discs with the Gateway name on it.

Dave, I have had 2 elements in the trunk for awhile, finally decided to test them out yesterday. Here's what I found:
Black S (it's like DX) ELX, 180: Thrown with less speed than a roc, it has a very similar line, but I don't like to "back off" on the roc, so I will still be using the roc as an overstable mid. I know the blaze is a nice overstable mid, but I don't have access to one or $$ right now.
Red E (It's like champion but more grippy and floppy, from the 2006 Bowling Green Ams) EL, 182:
I threw it once, and it sucked. It just flipped real quick and kept going right (RHBH). But then I backed off on it the next throw, and parked holes the next 3 times I threw it, very hard anhyzer holes. All 3 throws were ace runs. Real close ace runs. I even hyzer-flipped it through a tunnel, and it was dead straight to the fairway, 300' feet down. It is a sweet disc. It immediately replaced my beat up dx roc, beat up d buzzz, and z comet. Thank you for making my bag lighter.

You probaly need one of the newer E elements or or element-X's.
Most S elements are meant to be flippy, until lately we didnt have much that flips right at slow speeds.
Newer runs of the Element are very buzz like and the E element X are like CE rocs, but faster.

180 ft, 80 ft of elevation change. There's quite a few good reviews of that course around the net. Why were that couse and Ozark (I assume they're in the same place) pulled? When I lived in Arkansas, I got a few chances to play Horseshoe Canyon. From what people tell me who played both, Ozark is even more extreme.

Ozark is the most extreme course I have ever played. 1-800-Collect was a pretty sweet hole too.
Hole 8 and 9 on Akitas could add a few strokes to your score most assuredly, even though they were short holes.
My very first tournament that I played in was the Ozark Mountain Open. Wish I could go back and play it again, now that I have some experience.

I had an UltraLight Spirit that I got from Marshall Street. I loved this disc and it was my go-to thumber disc. Unfortunately, I was able to throw it too far because it was so light, and it met its demise in a pond.

The ultra light discs are our "S" without any weight filler and sometimes without to much rubber.
We do have some Speed Demon DT's in 150 and some around 125 that may be a little more durable than the Spirits.
But you are coreect the Urethane used for high end discs weigh 1.14 density. A mold like the spirit is about 145, so the lightest they can weigh would be around 165, its the math;; volume times density = mass

Out of the Chicago plant;
Besides whats on thier site, I know we have the raging inferno and the inferno Dt.
We should also be producing a 10 Meter Wizard, A one piece control driver and one piece mid-range approach ( both of these discs are now available in the odyssey overmolded series. The one piece discs will be flatter than the odyssey sisters and both will be rocish.
Here in St Louis we will have the rage which is the Spirit wing with the Blurr top and could have the Blast DT which would be the Blurr top and Speed demon DT bottom, but we may work on the DT pattern before releasing that one.
We also have the Magic, which will be a beadlesss Wizard.

The teebird disc is going to have to be pretty sweet though I love the sabres for shots I see people throw a teebird.
Only roc I ever used were pro classic so the roc disc probably wont be in my bag.

The Rage is already ran but not approved as far as I know, and If the raging inferno and raging inferno dt are being run right now I would say either next week or the week after?
Once again my best gueses on those discs.

Z-Surge = E-Illusion
Z-Flash = E-Inferno

The spirits i love and use to throw often but i was leaning towards the rage whenever it comes out. The illusion's I've had are a litle too overstable at the end of there flight and i was thinking about either a scream or trying out a new blurr. The infernos I've owned (1st runs) just required to my height to keep in the bag (hoping the scorcher/raging inferno can replace it). As for the Element-X Justin sent me a couple of of red ones that just couldn't hold up in a wind. I was hoping the new roc like disc can remedy that gap for me.
Thanks for the quick reply Joe

I would have to say the new Blurr is out of the box is slightly less stable, and faster. Probably a little more comperable to the Surge than the Illusion. I absolutely love the Blurr and Rage. Both are a little quicker and less stable than thier counterparts the Illusion and Spirit. That combo of those four discs along with the Inferno, Sabre, and Blaze is a perfect lineup of drivers to compliment any kind of shot you would ever need to throw. The E-Element X is a perfect transition for anyone throwing a Z-Wasp and/or Champion Roc. And of course, we all know the Wizard is everyone's putter/approach of choice!!!

Steady 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20. I would compare it to a T-Rex. Bottom line is this disc is a perfect fit right between the Spirit and Inferno. Keep em' coming Dave!

Well thats a great question and until I actually throw the discs wontreally be able to give an educated answer.
What looks good on paper still needs to be proven by mixing the polymers and molding the discs.
People would be ammazed of if they new how you could change the flight of a disc by any one of the floowing:
Temperature of plastic,
Temparature of mold.
Cooling time in mold.
Stacking of discs ( individually upside down or right side up, One on top of another upside down or right side up)
Presssure (-5 stages)
speed (2-5 stages)
Pack pressure:
pach hold time
Back pressure ( amount of resistance on barrell as it draws back) making the plastic more or less viscuss or dense.
The bigggest of all isPolymer blending;
I Could list and infinite unmber of combinations that could change the flight, but by now you get the picture.
It is impossible to make a clone of a disc just from another disc. If 2 molds were built identical and taken to 2 different molding shops, the chances of the discs being the same stabity would amost be alomst none!

Im killing the Raging Inferno. The first Infernos I got great distance out of, but felt they lacked in consistency, and needed to much room to work fully. The Pink Raging Inferno Im throwing is not only a better feeling plastic, but is also a more stable/ overstable version ( More than even the Black Infernos. ) that is possibly the FASTEST disc Ive ever thrown. It also needs half the room to get roughly the same distance, if you can get it to flip slightly.
Im also throwing some of the longest, most reliable 2-fingers in years.

WOW Chase that is a great review on the new pink discs, have you thrown the flatter softer Blurrs yet?
I agree, the new pink discs ( temporarily caled the Raging inferno)is a really REALLY controllable fast disc.
I got 3 of them to test fly and they all fly pretty different.
I take it yours is a lot more beefy compared to the inferno.
What discs of innovas would you campare it to or is it better than anything they have for speed, control and Distance? ( careful dave D might be watching :))
In my opinion the more overstable of the 3 pink discs is an improved version of the Illusion with a slightly smaller linear length of wing and less rim depth.
It seems closer in comparison to the Illusion and Blurr than inferno to me.
What do you think? Chase how much work have you given the new E Bluurs or E illusion in the past?
Hoepfully we will be changing the name before we start selling them as we have been waiting to release the Rage( the blurr top on the Spirit wing, that we ran about a month or so ago)
The combining of the names rage and inferno for a new disc, calling it the raging inferno is actually giving me a severe headache already and we have only made 20 of them so far!
What about the red discs with the REAL golf ball dimples on the wing??? Have you seen or thrown them yet?
20460chase
Nov 25 2006, 06:00 PM
As Pat said when he handed me the Pink version," Id compare it to a Teerex,"- ...and I also would agree...somewhat. It really depends on the Rex you were throwing. I threw Red, and they were way more beefy than some of the other colors.
I think it has the Speed of a Teerex, the control and distance of a Wraith. ( I throw the Wraith farther than the Teerex, even after the Teerex was beat in. )
I didnt mind the first Infernos, but didnt like the plastic at all. I like the more solid opaque looking plastic usaully used for Sabres and Blazes. The major differences, as I said before, are that there doesnt need to be as much space to achieve maximum distance- and its also extremely fast, faster than the original, faster probably than the Teerex. I like it alot, honest.
The Red golf dimple version, not as much. I threw it for a few days, it was decently similar to the Pink non-DT version, but for me, didnt "get out there" as fast and also had a tendency to flip to late in its flight. It wouldnt flip over, but I wasnt as accurate with it as the Pink version. Maybe Im not being as fair, as I really liked the pink plastic more. The Golf DT grip, I like that alot more than the Honeycomb grip, which has never felt right in my hand.
Still havent thrown the Blurr. Pats using a Pink one, but I dont really feel compelled to start using it. It seemed, to me, similar to an Orc in flight patterns, but I didnt throw it. Just watched Pat throw it about 50 times. ( Pretty much anytime he threw it, I threw the RI. )
Thats another thing I like about the RI, I can really feel free to get on top of this thing, and it hasnt yet flipped, even into a decent headwind on a 420 ft downhill hole. Both Pat and I expected it to flip and then glide back- Nope. It just held a huge line and hysered out at the end, the wind having little to no effect whatsoever. Thats pretty sweet.

Justin and I test flew the latest runs of the Rage, which is the new top of the Blurr on the Spirit wing.
This disc is not the RI, it is the new top of the blurr on Spirit wing!!
This is one fast disc with not much movement left or right in the flight, especially to the right and only falls left at the very end.
It has a long fast glide and is a faster cotrollable spirit that is less overstable.
We also threw the red w/dimples and the pink ones today as well.
Both Justin and I felt the red disc was a much better disc ( not even close)We may have a few funky Pink ones, they were a little hard to control, but the red w/dimples at 166 grams were money!!!.
Chase thanks for using the acronym RI for the red w/dimples and pink discs right now?
Hopefully we change the name of the discs. In my opinion it is much differnmt than an inferno and deserving of its own unique name, dont you think???

Dave or other Gateway folk,
I was just wondering in your experiences how odd it is to crack an E disc?!?!
Had an E Element-X over Thanksgiving break almost split right in half...crack goes from one end of the rim almost all the way to the other rim with two smaller rips right by the crack on the center of the flight plate. It hit a tree probably 50 to 100 feet from the tee and made an odd noise and when I got up to the disc I couldn't believe it! Didn't think I was that strong and it wasn't even cold out!! Nor was it beat in all that much!!(at least I didn't think so!) Too bad it was one of my favorite discs... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Dave,
I was experimenting with the blur you sent me earlier in the week, and I wanted to see if some gentle flexing would make it flatten out for me a bit quicker and my noodle arm. So I was throwing it out on the course, and EVERYTHING was turning right. If I threw it hard, I was rolling it. I thought it may be my form (I've got a strained back), so I let 3 other people throw it, and all of their throws turned and hit the ground rolling. I noticed that after flexing the disc no longer made the popping sound when I pressed down on both sides of the flight plate. So I'd assume that these things can't be flexed or it changes that "continuous dome" that you talk about. Any thoughts?

I like the idea of the Raging Inferno, as I dont think they are a totally different disc.
I think they compliment each other in the same way a "L" or "X" version.
I mean this while speaking of all 3. The original Inferno, the RI, and the DT RI , for me all shared similar traits.
The Pink non-DT version is my favorite, as you can rip the hell out of it with no real concern of flipping it over. I have flipped the DT version. ( Which Pat has been bombing, but hes also throwing a 168 Vs. the 176 Im throwing. In another week, he will overtorque his, mine will be beat in perfect, thus adding another 30-50ft. in distance. )
I think you could rename it, but it would ( IMO ) be somewhat insulting to the original Inferno. Myself, I just thought of the "Raging" as a fancy way to say "X" or more stable/ overstable.

No, they are as described. I was using them to put around in the shop, there is no roll away, no tricky BS bounce, nothing. They hit and sit.
They are somewhat tricky to grip, if your not a fan-grip putter, but its nothing thats unmangable. Myself, I putt with a combo power/fan/ fork type of grip, so it took a few throws to get used to it.
Both I have are slightly different. One is stiffer farther out from the middle to the rim, one is soft from about the middle to the rim. Both work the same, slight hyser putt from 30, hit something ( Chains or basket or ground ) and thats it. They arent real exciting, but will save strokes. I used them for a round at Prospect Park in Moline, IL- almost all the baskets are on 45' angles- and they worked very well. Its really hard to make it go past 50ft. , unless your really trying to blow by the basket.

Because the Blurr is only slighty understable it rally doesnt need much flexing it will break in nicely hust from a few trees or ground hits.

The black inferno is a little more stable and can take a few hits and still fly relatively straight. Mayne we will be making discs that day or we could play Centraiia!
I am leaving about 2 week's before Jarred to go to Wisconsin(AM World's).
Possibly the St Louis open next year.....Jarred was crushed because he couldn't go to the SLO this past year so I would Imagine that he will be eager to go this coming up year.

We are stammping more Ice Bowl Wizards and Infernos today so people must be ordering them.
Ice bowl has been going on for quite a while, 1987 or 1988 I think.
If your club is not running one yet its not too late.
These events are casual and are a great way for clubs to gain exposure if promoted properly.
These events are meant to be low key, so clubs or people who have never ran an event before can get their feet wet (literally sometimes) and get some experiance as a tournament director.

I have yet to even try the Raging inferno, raging inferno DT, 10m brick. or the scorcher...
How are the beadless wizards coming along? How long did it take to get power back everywhere?

Well we ran the bead less Wizard today.
It feels so sweeet in your hand as the bottom bead is so smoooth and the disc comes out of your hand very clean.
The stability of the discs is not exactly what we were looking for as it is not "UNderstable" but more DEAD STRAIGHT STABLE.
It is a little faster than the Wizard and it fades more like a broken in Wizard when new. It also fades at a differnt point when thrown very hard off the tee.
For the most part there is not much difference than the Wizard for shots less than 50 feet except it doesnt have the bead.
It will become a turnover disc a lot easier than a wizard because it does not have the bead.
We are going to call this disc the Warlock not the Magic and will work on the magic soon and it will be understable for sure.
There are a few things we can do to make the Magic understable and kepp all 3 feeling the same in your hand. This disc ( The Warlock) feels so sweet and flies so true I hate to not release it because it isnt understable.
I would think that the 3 together, Wizard, Warlock and Magic will compliment each other nicely.

When I got mine I realy didn't think I would ever put them in my bag but well I was WRONG!!!!! They ended up taking over the spot of all but one of my Spirits. It is slightly faster then a Spirit and also less HHS as well a LSS. It will pop up and go straight when thrown hard and finishes left later then the Spirit.

Ive been throwing the Rages for about a week now and they definitely are great discs...Very similar in feel to a spirit but a little less high speed stable and not as much low speed fade. You can get it to turn over easier than the spirit and it will hold that line...I like it alot...definitely going in the bag.

can someone clarify?: how are the blurr/rage different from the inferno/raging inferno? is the blurr/rage like the spirit, mold wise?
Furthur
Dec 22 2006, 06:00 PM
The blurr is similar to the illusion, the rage similar to the spirit. Both the rage and blurr are less HSS and LSS than their counterparts.
The inferno/RI is a totally new type of wing. The inferno and RI are discs that can be thrown as far or farther than the blurr/rage with less power.

If I'm not mstaken the Rage are blurr are among the fastest discs that can be thrown and the linear length of the wing is the biggest of any discs besides the epic!
I wouldnt think this would qualify either for any of the mid-range categories, seeing as they are among the FASTEST discs on the market.
The Infeno, Raging inferno and Raging Inferno -DT are all in the same speed range. HIGH SPEED DRIVERS!!!!!
All 5 of these discs are at the top of the speed chart with each having differnt amounts of resitance to turn, glide and Low speed fade.
It would realy help the disc golf community to have a mechanical throwing device where you could vary a discs, trajectory, velocity and rotation.
These factors in a players throw deterimine the stability of each particular disc more than flight charts.
In our new website we hope to eventually have a flight chart for players with 200, 300 and 400 power, co they can get a more accurate assesment of what each disc will do for them!!

I just got a 175 with E inferno and it is really understable it flies like an SL is it supose to be like that? I have heard that the inferno is a pretty stable disc
robertsummers
Dec 25 2006, 01:07 PM
Mine is understable, if thrown flat mine usually actually reminds me of a very slightly less understable sidewinder. My raging inferno actually flies closer to what I wanted my inferno to fly. For me the raging inferno goes straight most of the way with a very slight fade at the end. I may try to see how the Inferno will do as a roller (if the ground ever dries out).
MARKB
Dec 25 2006, 07:56 PM
This seems about right to me. Put more hyzer and height on it and it will definately bomb... I wouldnt really say that is really understable though... Then again I wouldnt say an SL is really understable either. If you can only throw one way I guess but if you can adapt to a disc to make it perform the way you want it to then its definately going to be versaitle...
