How was the fiesta at Hooligans? Did I miss anything? :D
The 2004 LODGA Awards ceremony was a huge success! Hoolingan's reserved a private room for us which we promptly decorated. Thanks to the decorations committee: Michaela Steele, Sylvia Schmidt and Lisa Lewis for making the room look great. They even put a crepe paper basket on the wall modeled after the tattoo on Ruben Campos' leg. Thanks Ruben! The food was awesome and everyone got their fill. The first $300 of beer was paid for, so everyone was feeling good when the awards ceremony started. Here's a highlight of some of the awards:
The top 10 players in each division received a disc and a medal to wear proudly all night. The top three in each division received a disc, medal and trophy. Congratulations again to all the top finishers.
Favorite AM Partner: John Frost
Favorite Pro Partner: Keith "Big Bird" Baker
Most Improved: Randall Karshis
Most Consistent Putter: Brian Schmidt
Biggest Sandbagger: David McKibbon!
Putting up with the rude boys award: Nelle Vargas
I never had a disc I didn't lose award: John Frost
Ace Pot winners: Eddie Efsic, Brian Schmidt, John Ince and Ruben Campos.
The winner of the basket raffle: Mark and Nelle Vargas
Thanks to all the people who helped... Bill Karshis, Jim Bob Karshis, Laura Karshis, James Pellman, Michaela Steele, Lisa Lewis, Sylvia Schmidt, and Danielle Vargas. You guys rock!!
And a special thanks to Keith Baker, John Ince, James Pellman and Ruben Campos for presenting two signed discs mounted in a wooden case to me. I really appreciate it, and truly feel the love! It makes all the hard work worth while.
The league netted $50 after all was said and done, so the 2005 LODGA PRO/AM DOUBLES LEAGUE starting April 6, 2005 will begin with $50 in the party fund. The raffle ticket sales at the party put us in the black. Thanks to Robert Guckian for buying $70 worth of raffle tickets!!

I'm considering starting a Monday night singles disc golf league to coincide with the 2005 Wednesday doubles league. We will have three divisions, Open, Am, and Women. Play for points, and cash them in for merchandise or $$ as you do now. I would combine the ace pot with the Wednesday ace pot and pay out all aces evenly at the end of the league like we did this year. I would also combine the party fund, so we can whoop it up again next year. Would you play?

Translation:
You all suck and I have to do all the disc golf stuff alone and all you want to do is play and I am sick of it. You all owe me an apology.
SORRY BRIAN FOR NOT SHOWING MORE SUPPORT!!!
No, the translation is: when a city the size of San Antonio has a public meeting, the reason is to gauge interest and determine if there is a demand for this type of service. When the skateboarders had their public meeting about a skate park, over 250 skaters and their families showed up. It got several articles in the paper, and as a result, there are now three more skate parks in the city budget. When I have to sit there and apologize to the city planners for the lack of attendance and reassure them that there really are a lot of disc golfers who are interested in this sport, it is quite embarassing, and I'm sure they had a hard time believeing me. You may think this sport is free, but it's not, you pay by getting involved, and helping to promote it. Chances like this meeting are few and far between. No one owes me an apology, Nelle, just be there when the sport needs you.

Yesterday we met with the property owner's representative and UC public works. We laid out a plan for 6 new holes in the back past #12 my ace hole. The property owner is an environmental group from Austin, so they are very particular about what trees we take out. He marked the trees to stay. Very soon, we will begin the task of clearing 10 acres of thick shule. We'll have several work days, so I hope I can count on you to come out and clear some forest. The city will put in the teepads, signs, baskets, and benches once the clearing is completed. These should be some beautiful holes when we're done!

live oak....I read there was a meeting and no one showed up.
Two things for next time.
Make a list of 10 people who will commit to the meeting and have each one of the 10 get 10 and so on.
It is hard to get everyone on the same page. But to get something done with any city ....YOU HAVE TO HAVE NUMBERS.
Second thing would be harsh to anyone not showing.
Until someone in S.A. can buy up 500 acres of city land for disc golf courses, you will have to work with the city.
There is plenty of interest in S.A.
But I know from experience " one person can not do it all"
I am very disappointed in the no showes......

Finally! U.C. will be a complete course again. Do we know when it will be up and playable? Maybe LOPAR should go over there and show them a thing or two..... :D:D
UC Parks has nothing to do with this. It's private property, and we're fortunate the city reached out for us and made a deal with the property owner to allow us to use the land. Disc golfers are clearing the land, because the city legally cannot (an insurance thing). UC Parks has been just as diligent at keeping the course mowed, trees trimmed, and baskets repaired. They even put in bridges and benches without us asking.
Both cities have been extremely supportive of disc golf, and we owe them a debt of gratitude. If we get enough local help to clear the land, we should be playing the new holes by spring.

Also Brian, Count on me, Matt, Shawn and the other Shawn(Wayne) to be there to help out in the clearing. I want to make sure that my "homeboy" routes are in. :D
Anybody else out there reading this needs to spread the word. I know we all enjoy playing on the courses. Now it's time to put in a couple of hours of our own time to make sure this gets done quickly and to show some gratitude for what Bryan has accomplished for disc golf in the area.

F*** Canada... there nothing up there eh. Yea I'll give you the good beer deal , but they can keep the cold weather.. any way we don't have to take Canada, sheeet we already own them!
With Mexico see... we already employee half the freaking country anyway , so if we take it over we could get tax monies from them and the beaches, sun and surf would all be ours, of course after we kill off all the people that pose a threat to the new Super-Sized America. I would leed that cause.

Hey Tator-Putt,
You had better go back and look at who beat who this year. I think the "old man" whipped up on you 5 out of the 7 times we matched up. You need to work on your math as well as your game. :DHave a happy Thanksgiving, cause next year will be even worse for you on the course against me. :DDid you mail your request to Santa yet? Maybe you can ask him for some game. :D
Hell did Batman ever fight Joker, Riddler, and the Peguin all in the same episode? I don't think so. :D
Jodi, I do belive that he did fight all of them at the same time. and he won too.. I know it's hard to belive that Batman won , it was close but he pulled it off at the end, a couple of "POPS, "POWS" "CRACKS " and thanks to his bat belt and his little buddy Robin.

Yes, and their eye sight is bad. They can't see past their nose and their tail is so big they have trouble with their follow through. Not to mention their short arms and their bellys drag the ground. Ladies night is back and running but it is now called Ladies Day. Every Saturday at 12:30 we will meet at the picnic table by hole 28 in the gravel parking area next to the football field.
I have many excited things planned for this season. The last Saturday of the month we will have a traveling Ladies Day. We will meet at Live Oak and then travel to another course. This gives an opportunity to see other courses and how they are set up and also gives other ladies in Texas a chance to join us. Other course include Gonzales, Austin, Wimberley and maybe Red Rock. All of these courses are about an hour away from Live Oak.
The Ladies Of Live Oak will help raise money for the Texas Womens Championships in April. Lets think of some fun ways to help out a groundbreaking tournament for female disc golfers such as this.
Due to the fact that I play tournies throughout the year, I may miss some Saturdays. I will let you ladies know ahead of time and you can always play without me. We are a group now, so lets act like one. Lets help spread the word about this fun sport and open the doors for the girls in the future.
I see a bigger and better Ladies Day this season, so get your bags and good attitudes ready. See you on Saturdays at 12:30.
Way to go Nelle! I hope you continue to have good turnouts!
