Bee sighting/stinging on 11b last night. Please be careful out there. Staff will look at the situation today. Hope the 2 lolos are feeling better this morning. We have had more swarms this year than in the past 4. Last year we had an explosion of rabbits and the year before it was the roadrunner. I wonder what is next?

Joe Soto takes 1st in Int with a solid -12 for the weekend. Coach Brian takes 2nd in Pro masters with -34 for the weekend and RT hits an Ace with a Wizard to split the pot 3 ways. Not sure of the $$ value. But we saw him at the Sizzler that night. :D

Aug 29 2005, 03:36 PM
Joe was actually -3 the par totals are wrong the second round was a par 54 not par 63. Don't want anyone acussing people of bagging. Look at the rec scores that -4 becomes a plus 5.

losotd
Aug 29 2005, 05:00 PM
I shot, -1, -7, +4 based on par 63, then +6 for the final 9 based on 27, so I'd be +2 overall. Though plus 6 on the final nine is more like -10!! I was smokin hot :D Finally.

Wish I could have stayed to watch the final nine, but that heat was just too much for me. Brian, were you sizzling from the heat or the great game you were puting together all weekend. It was good to see so many from Live Oak there. It inspired me to finish. JimBob, I would have been right after you if I had not figured my first round on 18 holes instead of 21. It shows what just two stokes can do. Congratulations to all those that finished. It was my goal!

Aug 30 2005, 12:15 PM
Here's my take... RT got up to tee off, and for whatever reasons, the rope line tee boxes on several holes were not next to the wooden post tee box markers. Erosion, slippery, whatever, it makes sense to move the boxes, but the ropes are sometimes difficult to see. So RT tees off in the normal tee box and not behind the rope. RT birdies the hole and no one else on the card did. One player mentioned that he teed off from the wrong box but did not call a foot fault. Another player also did not call a foot fault, but seemed to be p iss ed about it, and pulled out a rule book, and then went to the TD. By this time, it was too late in my opinion, no card call was made at the time of the infraction.

Was this gamesmanship by the pro who pulled out the rule book? Who knows. It's unfortunate it happened to a player who recently stepped up to Pro to test his skills. This kind of crap leaves a bad taste, and may be another reason advanced players don't make the move up. As pro's we should welcome new players to our ranks and assist them as they make the transition, not jerk them around. Make the call, and move on. And James McCaine is not at fault here, but may be able to shed more light on this.

If I described this situation incorrectly, I apologize in advance.

RT and Live Oak rule!

I say that those open players should of been stroked for poor sportsman conduct :Dbecause waiting until everyone has thrown is wrong!! Play Pro Masters

Nelle 18131

Waiting to see if he got the birdie is also wrong. If he would have carded a 3, I bet we would even be talking about it.

james_mccaine
Aug 30 2005, 01:07 PM
Uhh, I guess I don't know the whole story, but as Brian described, RT teed from the wrong box. I immediately called a foot fault. I did not wait to see the result of the shot. By the way, if I remember correctly, the shot was not that great, but RT hit a nice putt for the bird. Anyways, noone else seconded the foot fault. In my mind that was the end of the matter. If noone seconded it, it can't be enforced.

I'm not sure why Joel pulled out the rulebook. In his defense, he may of been studying the rulebook to determine if my call of a foot fault was appropriate because there are other interpretations of what RT did that could of resulted in an automatic penalty.

Anyways, in my judgement, it was an innocent mistake that anyone could have done and foot fault was the appropriate call. The basic shot was the same from where he threw and he hit a nice putt and earned the bird he got. I probably view Joel's actions much more innocently than RT does, but that comes from my familiarity with Joel. Anyways, I enjoyed playing with RT and hope he is not soured on playing with pros.

By the way Jerry, in the defense of open players, I have seen plenty of BS done by masters players in my time.

bigbadude
Aug 30 2005, 02:02 PM
James that was then, this is now!!! The masters follow the rule book, and we play like gentlemen,a master player would of stop RT before he would of tee'd off from the wrong spot not afterwards ;) thats one MAIN differance between open and masters we stop the error before it happens, because we hate to see anybody get stroked for something like that.

LouMoreno
Aug 30 2005, 02:21 PM
Masters also watch everyone on their card putt out so no one leaves a putter by the basket waiting to be picked up. Right, Chile? ;)

james_mccaine
Aug 30 2005, 02:50 PM
Give me a break Chile. Almost every non-jerk player on earth would have stopped him if they knew what he was going to do. By the time I realized it, he was about to throw and I'm just not into yelling at people right before they release. Noone else was even watching, thus there was no second.

bigbadude
Aug 30 2005, 03:25 PM
We all thought that he was going to putt out, but, when his score was asked he said 3, he should of knew then but he drove and went to putt again, right then and there he should of realized that he had no putter, unless he was??? and he was ONLY given a one stroke. Play with me Lou and I will make sure that you putt out on every hole, tee from the right tee box, etc. We did not have that problem this weekend ;)

Y'all should really know what the hell you're talking about before you imply people are bad sports. You may have some defensible argument for how everything was handled, but acting like everyone knew he was teeing from the wrong box and just watched knowing that they could then penalize him is complete BS. I'm absolutely postive that everyone in that group would have alerted him if they knew he was going to throw from the wrong box.

krazyeye
Aug 31 2005, 10:53 AM
My apologies. Didn't mean to imply anything. I know some of the boxes were very poorly marked and that was our (Third Coast, Billy, Chris) ) fault. The card ahead of mine on hole eleven all teed from the wrong spot doubt any were stroked though.

Lance I suggest you get your facts right before giving blame or suggesting bad sportsmanship. I was on the tee when RT threw and was aware of exactly what happened. I was also on the course several times including with the group on Hole 11. If people had an issue with tee boxes I was there to take care of it, no worries.

And in regards to the repeated questions about ratings they will be taken care of when the PDGA work out a way to do it with the change of holes. Let me see...you want ratings for Int and Rec divisions or the chance of getting shot! I think I made the right decision. If you are so worried about ratings move up.

Thanks
Chris

Change of Topic here....

Some of you know that Kathy,my wife, and I are school teachers. School kids from the huricane evacuation are starting to show up at local schools with nothing but the clothes on their back and maybe, and I mean maybe, one set of extras. They have no school supplies, and lunch money is a problem. Some lunches are probably going to be taken care of through the local systems, but the others stuff is in desperate need.

Target is clearing out all of their school supplies at 30-50% off. If you have a chance, go by Target and spend about $10 dollars on paper, pens, pencils, markers and glue and then take it to the closest elementary, middle school or high school. If you have kids or grandkids that have out grown clothes take the extra clothes also. The counselors can give them to the kids. Some of the kids are staying with relatives others are in local hotels or shelters. You can also take it to to a shelter and they will give them out.

I also know that some of the local schools here in NISD are going to do clothes and school supplies drives, so be open to that. We are being told that some of these kids could be in our school systems until Christmas or longer.

Also, and this is on a more personal note...I am an animal lover and there are animals showing up at the local shelters that are being turned away because the shelters do not allow animals. If any of you are animal lovers also or just have a soft spot in your hearts for a dog or cat, contact the San Antonio Humane Shelter and volunteer to be a foster parent to these animals. All you have to do is keep these animals until the owners and the animals can get back home.

Thanks for your time and if you cannot do anything else, help a kid who wants to go to school. They need their lives to be as normal as possible.

Sep 11 2005, 02:32 PM
23c it is I will go take a picture of it today. What about the color theme? Light blue, dark blue and white. I need suggestions if you have them. I am designing the web site to represent Live Oak DGA. The more feed back I get the more it represents the entire community.

Generaly a color scheme will consist of 3 various colors and those colors will run through the entire web site. Example................... www.pdga.com (http://www.pdga.com): blue, dark blue, white and green.

Great point. I went to take a picture of the signature hole, but............... the weather was terrible and the pictures did not do our course justice. I will go on a sunny day!

You are right on the picture not being bold enough and I am currently working on another layout for the banner. Your advice really helped out alot! If there is anything else you would like to see please post it. I anticipate the entire site will be done by October.

Content so far:
1) Totaly independant forums!!
2) A member section.
3) Picture page.
4) Result page for Live Oak Minis. ( I will get with Brian on this once I have the design up.)
5) News page.
6) A calendar that will list all upcoming events within our area.
7) Dedicated Ace Page.
8) Quick link chat box.
9) Posting for lost and found disc.

My goal is to provide a free dedicated area for us to share information and help spread the word of our course. I think a web site dedicated to our sport will help send out a positive message about Live Oak! :)

One idea on the logo...What about making the O in Live Oak like a disc with a tail (denoting motion). The tail could streak thru the word "Live".

Sort of like the logo here: www.discgolfassoc.com (http://www.discgolfassoc.com/)

Sep 12 2005, 12:25 PM
Dark Blue, Foreset Green and Yellow/While

That really opens up alot on detail. I ran a trial with those colors and it does not look so pale. The Yellow, and green are excellant additions. Thanks for the feed back.

manwithbigdisc, I agree on the disc with a tail! What I plan to do with yor idea is create a dedicated logo that will sit off to the left of the banner. This way you just dont have some words floating over a picture. I really think your idea will give our logo some attitude.

Please keep the suggestions coming. They have all been great ideas.

Here we go just is just a beta, but it will give you guys something to critique.

GECKO BOY, I used your idea on the basket but, in order to get both Live Oak trees and basket in the picture you would sacrafice alot of detail on the basket. So I took this picture to match up as closely with what you suggested. Please give me your opinion.

LOPAR, I used all colors you mentioned except for the blue. I felt it came out nicely. Your suggestion really made a big impact on the overall theme. Tell me if you see somwhere in there you think the blue should belong.

manwithbigdisc, excellant suggestion on the logo. I know it is far from the example you posted with the link. Your suggestion help me come up with the intergration of the disc and LIVE OAK in the banner. I did not want to copy the site you linked entirely because I am trying to make the LODGA site original. However without your suggestion I would have never even thought of the disc in a logo.

**Again please hold nothing back!!! This is all of our web site I am just the designer putting your ideas into the picture. Your feed back is helping our progress.**

-Thanks

by the way... looking at the web site photo... I hate to be picky but the basket's bottom looks a little crooked. And I'm not a huge fan of the green LIVE OAK... But, I love what you are doing. :D:D

p.s. Is there anyway to brighten the picture? And with all your computer magic, maybe you could Photoshop shop a pic of GeckoBoy hitting an ace. Since that will be the close he'll ever come. (And I mean an actual ace. Not on a shorten basket, and not on you 3rd or 4th attempt on the same hole, buddy.) :D

My concern with the logo, John, is we would need something that can easily be added to a shirt or disc. So the level of detail in the photo is nice, but can be hard to duplicate unless it's in a very high resolution. Maybe something we can pull out of the logo you are creating to be used as a logo for the LODGA on shirts and discs would be good. When we sponsor other tourneys, we need something catchy that they can put on shirts too.

I can put Turbos creation on the web site as the logo. I just need the image to intergrate it to the banner for the future LODGA web site. If someone can give me a way to contact him to get his original image so I can make it happen. In the mean time I will work on a coulple of other options Brian to loosen up the detail on the logo I designed. Thanks for the advise guys.

Lackland is in the ground and will be ready to play this Saturday.

Doug dropped the first basket in the ground Wednesday afternoon at 5:33pm. I put the second one in about 5 minutes later. 17 others were in by 8:30. 9 teepads are left and Doug will be getting them done Thursday afternoon.

We would like everybody to come out Saturday afternoon to play the first mini at the Flying Aces DGC. We have a variety of elevation shots, blind shots, water shots and hole 15, "The Flight Line", approximately 600 feet of pure adrenaline rush.

We will all meet at 1:30 at the Rainbow Lounge GO-GO club, on Military Dr. This place is directly accross from a gate and is in site of security guards at the gate. We will then all get into several vehicles that have base access to go to the course. Please PM me if you are going to come. We would like to have at least two full cards, but the ultimate would be 5-6.

Directions: From hiway 90, exit onto Military Dr. and go approximately 3 miles to the GO-GO club, which will be on your right. Military Dr. is a 7 lane road that cuts Lackland AFB in half. You will see many AF planes on display as you come down Military Dr.

My cell number is 771-4404 if you are going to be running late or you get lost.

There is a High School Cross County Meet on the course in the morning so we will have to wait until 1:30 to play. Bring plent of water, even though this is the old Kelly golf course there is no water around as of right now. There will be in the future when the paintball, BMX, and mountain bike trails are completed. We just happen to be the first to get finished.

Hope to see you there.

19 disc golfers showed up today for the first mini at Lackland AFB. A great time was had by all, even in the 100+ degree heat.

I want to say thanks to Brian for coming prepared to run the mini. I sort of just expected people to show up, give me $5 and then lets go. Well... there is definately more to it then that, and Brian was prepared. Our only problem was getting on base, we had to go through the visitors center and that took an extra 30 minutes, but we got there and WOW, it was great to see flying discs all over the course.

I want to say thanks to Doug and all of the effort that he put into this. He had to do way more than his share of the work. We kept getting pushed back on the time table and when they finally said GO, it was a short two week time frame. By that time school had started for me and the only time that I had was either after school or the weekends, and we knew others had work responsibilities also. So Doug did ALOT every afternoon this past week.

Thanks to all that showed up today, I had a blast and it was nice to hear all of the critiques of the course, both the good and the bad. Everytime that Doug and I go out we see either stuff that we said that we were going to do and haven't or things that need to be changed. We will get the TEE signs up this week sometime, and that will make it easier to navigate around the course.

Again, thanks for coming

I am already in Ingleside. I definately got Shule Schooled last night. I think the course took revenge on me from last year.

However the front came in last night. It is now in the low 80's and windy. The wind is from the north which the locals tell me is not the normal wind, so the locals are all confused on how to play thier own course.

Well, it is now official. The course and the Outdoor REC center is now open. Ribbon cutting ceremonies were today at 1:00 and demosnstrations were given in Paintball and Disc Golf. I am finding out that there are a lot of discers out there on base.

About a week before Doug left for Omaha, he was out playing and an airman walked up to him on the first hole and asked where the DGC was. Doug told him he was standing on it and asked if he played. The airman said yes and that several of his buddies did also. Doug then asked him if he had any discs and he told him yes, out in his car. Doug then told him to go and get them and they played a round.

Today another airman form Kentucky asked me the same thing and even though we were not able to play because off the ceremony, he was still excited and was going to have his parents ship his discs to him. He was a little excited. Several others came up to me and Rock today saying that they had played and were excited to have something this close to them. Plus we were able to show many newbies what disc golf is. It looks like this course is going to be a hit on base. Even the Colonel knows how to play. She can really chunck those ORION's.

Dave, give me a call me sometime next week and we will go out and play. I will get a hold of Rock and see if he can play also. He will be the contact man on the base now as Doug used to be. I am heading to San Saba after school tomorrow to work the lodge and pro shop for John Houck and Shannon. I hear those Temple boys know how to cook, as long as I don't have to eat any of that sausage that they are planning to feed ROCCO.

See ya'll later and have a great time at Houligans.

...and I don't wow easily. :D

I hope you were not beaten too badly Joe. I know you should have at least beat one of them. The nicest guy in disc golf should have done you in pretty easily. :D

Sorry I couldn't make it a foursome. I had to do my LAF duties in Austin today.

Any aces on THE HOLE?

It was a great experience, and I represented well. :D They are VERY eager to help us with a few tournaments in the near future. I have a Commissioner who works at the V.A. Hospital and wants to do a tournament for the disabled Iraqi veterans and INNOVA wants to be a part of it. The format/date is unknown at this time but will keep you posted.

BTW, Mr. Himing, Tim and Russell have been notified of your inability to place me on a starting tee pad within 4 miles of HQ. Your future stock of plastic will be delayed or the prices will be tripled should this madness continue.

I hit a skip ace with a Firebird last Monday! If RT had driven by the hole about 1 minute earlier he would have seen it.
