EDGE

The following article was provided by Educational Disc Golf Experience (EDGE). EDGE is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting disc golf among youth and in schools. EDGE received a $25,000 grant from the PDGA's Youth and Education program to support their mission in 2025.

Contagious Momentum for Youth Disc Golf

In 2025 alone, the Educational Disc Golf Experience (EDGE) introduced disc golf to 54,700 youths, solely through newly partnered schools! An impressive number on its own. Now, take a moment to ponder that those 54,700 players are joining thousands of established EDGE partner programs who add new classes of first-year students to their programming annually. EDGE’s 24-year impact on youth disc golf is staggering and ongoing.

With 85% of school partners needing financial assistance to onboard disc golf safely and properly, partnerships and support between PDGA, its members, and tournament directors are key to EDGE being able to award $471,584 via the Tournament Charity Program (EDGE TCP) to schools and youth programs throughout the United States and worldwide.

Strong sponsorships and partnerships are the inner chains of EDGE’s TCP success. The PDGA and EDGE have linked together for a long and prosperous partnership to expand educational disc golf opportunities. To date, this partnership has led to $134,600 in grants awarded on behalf of the PDGA membership. In 2025 alone, there were 23 PDGA/EDGE grants distributed across 17 states.

There’s a bit of talk that disc golf is having a fallback moment, but EDGE is here to say, “Hold on tight! The youth wave is just around the corner!” Educational disc golf awareness, enthusiasm for the game, and excitement to play are at all-time highs. Disc golf is starting to hit a critical mass of school populous engagement in the game. State High School Championships are starting to emerge, and new school clubs are forming every week. EDGE is hard at work actively fulfilling the demand for disc golf programming and fostering the interest in school clubs, both of which are paving the way for organized disc golf in schools.

As enthusiasm for teaching disc golf soars, so does the willingness to establish campus courses. EDGE successfully installed 10 permanent campus courses in 2025, adding to its ranks of over 300 campus courses installed through EDGE. Notably, 2026 is anticipated to be a pivotal year for campus courses, with three course projects already ordered and currently several more underway. Your club and event(s) can easily join in assisting and aiding in this youth movement.

How does my club or event partner with EDGE?

The EDGE TCP is a fantastic way to assist local disc golf youth initiatives shine on a national stage. We want to partner with your event, large or small. EDGE TCP has partners that include the Disc Golf Pro Tour and National Amateur Disc Golf Tour stops, several state disc golf tours, local putting leagues, along with many individual PDGA and non-sanctioned events.

The coolest component about your club or event partnering with the EDGE TCP is that 100% of your event donation comes right back to assist your area and state youth programs. Community Charity at its finest!

The EDGE TCP was implemented in 2005, just two years after EDGE was established as a 501(c)(3) organization. It was evident that connecting a 100% publicly funded charity with disc golf clubs and events can be a powerful resource. This designation enhanced our TCP partners’ sponsorship value and expanded our mission to reach and teach disc golf in the area the events are taking place. What began as ten EDGE TCP events has evolved into multiple clubs, tours, and over three hundred PDGA-sanctioned and non-sanctioned events that choose to annually partner with EDGE.

Special shoutouts to the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s Community Connect for leading the way three years in a row and to Russ Burns, owner of the Disc Golf Monkey Tour. Russ is the 2012 EDGE/PDGA Educational Award winner and one of the original ten EDGE TCP events. Twenty-one years later, Russ and the Disc Golf Monkey Tour are still in the EDGE TCP Top 10 contributors. The Vermont State Tour under Chris Young’s leadership has supported EDGE in implementing a campus course a year for several years now.

Score an Ace! Join the EDGE mission, be part of introducing disc golf via education, and build a lifetime of health and happiness in your community.
