Last night officially began the celebration that is the St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational. Several representatives from the regional chapter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital were in attendance last night for the Opening Ceremony and Player’s Meeting, as well as tournament organizers, promoters and nearly 200 competitors playing in the tournament this weekend. Something was different, however.

Over the last few months, we’ve been hyping up what’s about to take place this weekend in Seaside, CA. We, the PDGA, have been blessed with an amazing partnership and opportunity with one of the most successful and life-changing charities in the world, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. After months and months of planning, the players and fundraisers for the inaugural St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational tee off tomorrow morning.

“Serendipitous” can be described as unexpected, or in this case, when everything just comes together as if guided by an invisible hand. The word serendipitous perfectly captures the nearly 20 year journey my nephew, Conor, started as a toddler. It is also how the Regional Event Planner for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital described working with the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) while planning the inaugural St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational.

Everyone believes that disc golf is ready to explode. In fact, here at the PDGA office we are already experiencing the early signs of this exponential growth which include record numbers of members and events, as well as some very unique opportunities that are being presented to us as a sport.

Excitement within the sport of disc golf continues to build for the St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational to be held on May 22-24, 2015 in Seaside, California. The PDGA has been working furiously behind the scenes with the St. Jude event committee on planning and preparations and we are very pleased to announce today how you can be a part of this epic event.

The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) is embarking on one of the most significant efforts of its 33-year history. As PDGA Executive Director, Brian Graham #5861 can attest, "Our member driven organization is forming a partnership with a very powerful, national charity organization. This partnership will be pivotal in helping to propel disc golf to the forefront of professional sports while bringing about the notoriety we have all dreamed of and know disc golf deserves."
