A new program for educating TDs

Monday, April 7, 2025 - 11:34

The PDGA’s new Tournament Director Training Program will go live in early April 2025.  This free online training course, authored by PDGA’s Support and Training Team, consists of 18 "holes" — or lessons — and covers a full range of subjects that TDs need to know, including:

  • PDGA Tiers and Event Standards
  • Event Scheduling and Sanctioning
  • Tournament Registration using Disc Golf Scene
  • Use of Tournament Manager and Tournament Central
  • Rulings at Events
  • PDGA Ratings

The lessons include instructional videos, photos and graphical elements, practice activities for Disc Golf Scene and Tournament Manager, and quizzes at the end of each hole. The entire program is fully interactive and allows you to move at your own pace.  Graduation from the program requires completion of all 18 holes with a score of 70% or better on each hole.

Anyone who has served as a TD or Assistant TD since 2022 will be invited to apply for a free account on the TD Training website, and prospective TDs will be able to request an account via PDGA.com. Along with comprehensive knowledge of the TD role, graduates of the TD Training Program will receive recognition via the PDGA website and social media accounts.

Over the past two years, I have played more than 200 rounds on 20 different courses — a clear reflection of my commitment and passion for the sport. This experience has allowed me to deepen my knowledge of the rules, tournament formats, and player expectations — both from a technical and logistical perspective. I have also taken part in numerous events, which has given me a clear understanding of what makes a tournament successful.

I firmly believe that the role of a Tournament Director goes far beyond technical organization: it is also about creating a dynamic, fair, and inspiring environment for all participants. This is the spirit in which I am eager to contribute.

As an active member of the PDGA, a passionate disc golfer, and co-owner of Panak DiscGolf, I am submitting my application for the position of Tournament Director. My daily involvement in the world of disc golf—both on and off the course—makes me a motivated, organized, and deeply committed candidate for contributing to the growth of our sport.

As the co-owner of Panak DiscGolf, I have developed essential skills for organizing tournaments: project management, communication, teamwork, logistics, and player support. This role also gives me direct contact with the local and provincial disc golf community, which I aim to mobilize around well-structured, welcoming events that meet PDGA standards.
