Field Cut, Finals Remain at 2016 Tim Selinske US Masters

Sunday, September 11, 2016 - 01:06

A 14-division field made up of 270+ players from three different countries has officially been cut down to those fortunate enough to have played well enough to finish in the top 40% after three rounds. Now, with only the final round remaining this morning here in Oak Grove Regional Park, the competitors will need to be on top of their games for a chance to become a 2016 Tim Selinske US Masters Champion.

The final round layout uses a combination of both the Gold course and the Purple course here at Oak Grove, including a few different safari-style holes to increase the difficulty. The day will consist of groups teeing off every eight minutes, with the first card scheduled to take to the tee at 9:00am PDT and the last, the Masters division lead card, at 1:00pm PDT.

Patrick Brown #25713 has led the Masters all weekend, slowly adding to his lead after each of the three rounds thus far. He now sits at the top of the division eight ahead of 2nd place holder Jonathan Baldwin #18114, with Shasta Criss #28597, JD Lee #14256, Robert Bainbridge #22110, and a slew of others all within striking range.

The story is similar in the Masters Women division, as 2X World Champion Carrie Berloger #13815 is on pace for a wire-to-wire victory. She’ll be facing off against none other than 5X World Champion and Disc Golf Hall of Fame member, Anni Kreml #3351. Kreml will start the final round six off the lead, joined by the Suzette Simons and Andi Young from the Grandmasters Women’s division, scheduled to tee off at 11:24am PDT.

California disc golfers have been dominating the field in many of the divisions here this weekend. The top 14 players in Masters for example, are ALL Cali-golfers. As are the top three in Masters Women, the top three in Advanced Masters (counting TJ Goodwin #26305 as Cali, for obvious reasons), four of the top five in Advanced Grandmasters, and so on.

The race is a close one for many of the top competitors out here this morning and afternoon. Patrick Brown’s lead of eight is the biggest scoring separation for any division as far as the difference between the leader and his/her closest competitor, with nine divisions having players in 1st and 2nd five or less strokes apart.

We wish the best of luck to all 120 of the final round competitors at the 2016 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships presented by Innova Champion Discs. Follow the action all day on pdgalive.com with pictures and videos coming in via @pdgalive on Twitter and @pdga on Instagram.
