Great design, excellent tee signs, new astro turf tee pads and a variety of basket angles on a wonderful 50 acre property. There is parking and another putting basket on the upper part of the course near Tee 21.

I am a local here in Spearfish. I play here regularly and I am proud to say that this course has taught me to sharpen my game, all around. Its helped me become a more technical player and I get to unleash some muscle when the baskets are set in long positions. The wind is a factor a majority of the time-it's shocking when the wind doesn't blow at this course. The hanging baskets are a plus. The walk is good exercise and I appreciate the work the local disc club (me included, sometimes) puts into the course maintenance. I do like a lot of courses that I have played on in the surrounding states, but this course has trained me to face other courses without fear. It's an awesome course and it's not for beginners. Know where your disc lands at all times because you can spend a lot of time looking for it if you don't watch. Know your discs on this course too-disc selection is valuable here in the Spearfish Canyon Course.

The best that South Dakota currently has to offer. 27 holes, few people, great experience.

Outstanding course; if you're in the neighborhood, don't pass up the chance to play this one. I was there about 3 weeks ago, and my round was magnificent. It helped that I "deuced" all of the "signature" holes, including a near ace on 18, which is straight down a cliff, and the hanging basket one in the picture.

The course is plenty challenging, VERY well guided, i.e., signs and diagrams of the holes, and the scenery is spectacular. Ever been frolfing and had a bunch of deer just meandering along next to you? Neither had I before I played here!

I'd have to say this is the best course I've played to date, all the stuff about small sample size notwithstanding. Oh, one last thing: there's a bunch of stumps and rocks that make perfect beer holders (which I did not avail myself of because I was there at, like 8 a.m.) all over, and that's one more valuable perk!

I got more out of this course than I expected. It's naturally very beautiful-full of impressive trees and rocky overhangs. You climb up and down the black hills and get a nice workout at the same time. For me it was fairly challenging with a nice combination of open fairways and baskets obscured by a cluster of trees as well as the challenge of a few steep hills. There were quite a few creatively hung baskets and a final hole where your disc plummets over a cliff to a basket waiting below. Great signage with pictures and directions were present throughout the course. But I had to go with a four rather than a five star rating only because of the shooting range down the road that made for some unpleasant noise for about five holes.

This course is as advertised: woodsy and only flat for the first few holes. The course was thoroughly enjoyable, with many tight drives and several hidden holes—precision is required for most shots.

The in-ground signs with arrow to the next tee were very helpful for navigation, and the holes were well-marked and signed. My only request would be to mark tee-off areas a bit more clearly.
