2017 PDGA Pro Disc Golf Worlds Courses

For the first time since the inaugural event in 1982, the Open and Open Women's divisions are now the only two divisions that will compete in the PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships. Due to a number of various factors, all other professional divisions now have their own world championship event, the PDGA Professional Masters Disc Golf World Championships.

The overwhelming growth and popularity of disc golf has been the driving force behind this decision, and having the two elite divisions compete in their own separate event means fewer courses are needed. This factor alone means far more venues are able to bid on hosting the event, and for the competitors, it means fewer courses need to be practiced.

The W.R. Jackson Memorial Course, presented by Innova Champion Discs and Jay Townsend, is the longest course at the IDGC, coming in at  9,681 feet and par 68. The FPO layout measures in at 9,111 feet and is a par 67. This Gold level course was designed by Disc Golf Hall of Fame member and disc golf course design legend, John Houck, and features Innova DISCatcher baskets set in a very challenging championship configuration.

The Jackson course was sponsored by Jay Townsend and named in honor of his grandfather, W.R. Jackson, an industrialist who took over the reigns of a steel fabrication company named PDM and proceeded to grow it into a fortune 500 company. PDM's most famous contract was for the fabrication and construction of the stainless steel for the St. Louis Arch.
