The conditions were tough, and the course even tougher, to kick off the fourth stop of the PDGA EuroTour.

But in line with the name of the event, there were some fire finishes on Friday in Filipstad, Sweden.

Pekka Kyvönen fired off six-straight birdies to finish and grab a share of the lead with Mathis Karlsen to open the Heatland Open sponsored by Kastaplast.

It was a similar finish for Ruth Schlissel, who finished with the lone birdie in the FPO field to take a one-stroke lead over Anniken Steen, who took down the PDGA EuroTour win a week ago, and Amanda Lanneartsson with two rounds to play at Kalhyttans Discgolfbana.

The scores in both fields are extremely tight with 12 players within three strokes of Hyvönen and Karlsen at the top of the MPO leaderboard. In FPO, four players are within four strokes of Schlissel.

Hyönen played a clean front nine before picking up his first birdie of the day on hole 10, a 180-meter par 4. Then he took off, finishing with six-straight birdies for a 1035-rated (unofficial) round and one of two bogey-free scorecards on the day. Karlsen started with a bogey but recovered quickly with birdies on four of the next five holes.

Both leaders played well above their rating, finishing the first round 59 and 98 points above their rating, respectively.

Hjalte Jensen is one stroke back of the lead, aided by an ace on the 114-meter hole 14 and is tied with Elias Luukkonen and Anton Westman.

It was the birdie at the end that separated Schlissel at the top in a tight race. She added another lone birdie on hole 4. Steen, who took down the Kokkedal Open in Denmark this past weekend, bounced back with back-to-back birdies at the turn. Lennartsson started strong with two birdies to start but failed to get under par the rest of the day as the FPO field battled the rain and the tough course.
