ANDREW: HURRY read this and then ORDER..I just got this email from Zonedriven....HURRRRRRRRY TREAT!!!!
Dear ZD Friends,
We have a great opportunity for those of you enrolled in, or who have connections with a college or university. There are a limited supply of DISCatcher Traveler portable targets available for schools, free of charge. These baskets are available to ship immediately and freight charges are all you need cover.
When the Traveler was released, the manufacturer used stitching that Innova deemed inadequate for retail. The entire batch was replaced, leaving them sitting on pallets with no plan. Innova has approved donating them to athletic directors, coaches, fraternities and sororities, etc. Basically any situation where the targets will be used to promote disc golf and not re-sold would likely qualify.
If you are interested in finding out more about this opportunity, please contact me for details.
Regards,
Jonathan Poole

There is no comparison from NC to Tulsa...BlackHawk is the closet thing to anykind of NC golf. The major exception is that the ground is soft here in the woods, and most of the NC courses in the woods the grass dies and it becomes hard which is good for sliding shots near the pin.
Most of the golf here will resemble Chapel Hill without the schule on real bad shots, plenty of open space to let your drive rip.

...., plenty of open space to let your drive rip.
Thats all good, but how about skippage?
With exception of unmowed or wet grass, is the ground suspectable of skipping approaches or drives?
I know I got killed by that at Bowling Green, throw your upshot to land 30ft on the right side expecting that 15-20ft skip only to have it dig and stop. Constantly having to make 30ft par putts gets annoying.
Just wanting to know, so I can recondition my game, the only courses I played west of the Mississippi were in San Saba Tx. And boy could you get skips on that hard ground.
twoputtok
May 25 2006, 10:47 AM
Some of the course will provide the skip you're looking for but not Mohawk Black. On that course you need to put it right on the spot.
The SKIP will be in play in July...The ground is usually brick hard by then.
McClure usually keeps its grass very tight like Vista in Scottsdale, AZ.
Dovillio the grass is usually a little thicker
Hunter has some sandy areas but the skip is in play on several holes
On the open holes at Haikey, the skip is in play due to being hard as a rock
Blackhawk I wouldn't plan too mayn skip shots out there...the grass is a little thick in some spots
RedHawk has short grass similar to McClure.

I am very happy to announce to my frisbee flippin friends that a deal has been finalized with the CREEK NATION CASINO in Tulsa. CREEK NATION will provide $10 poker chips and a meal voucher in your players pack...AS WELL AS A LARGE CASH CONTRIBUTION TO THE EVENT. :DsO WHEN YOU GAMBLE IN tulsa REMEMBER we have FRIENDS at CREEK NATION.
MC (Conners, Commish) Landed us buy one get one burgers yesterday and the folks printing your shirts got squeezed for 600 Sharpies... The players pack is looking PHATer than Russell Simmons clothing line. :D
And it's also official the players meeting will be in the donated CLEAR CHANNEL EVENT CENTER... Plenty of room to get the crowd rocking 5 x's harder than Don Dokken for sure.
I'll be in Tulsa today if anybody wants to get a round in after World's orders go out.

Wow, like Chapel Hill huh, I can dig that. I hope you dont have the snakes like the hill does. Thanks Kevin for the info. See you peeps on the 21st of july.
Will there be any rope used like Rock Hill? Matt Smith roped off Chapel Hill for the Tar Heel tourney this year and what a difference it made. Kevin i dont know if you remember the hole but to give you an idea Hole 4's basket had a 30ft circle around it and then a circle half way down the fairway. The two circles were the only in bounds areas. It really changed your game

Freshly mowed and no goat heads. So, if you get a chance for a break, Ray Brown is a great diversion. With 3 tee pads for each hole, you will need about every shot you have...

Take I-244 east to Sheridan Ave, exit and go left, continue North about 5 miles until you come to a stop sign at 36th St N where you have to go left or right, go right and then make a left at the stop light into the park. Follow the road to the zoo entrance. There is a building directly across on your left...that's the parking lot, and hole one is right there.

Just mapquest directions to the Tulsa Zoo. The courses are across the parking lot from the Zoo.
Or any one coming in call me at 918-232-8562 and I'll tell you how to get there from where ever you are coming in from.
Even if you're from Arkansas. :o
You will enter east of the star marked on the map. The ntrance is just north of the airport. Follow the signs to the Tulsa Zoo. The road marked Choctaw Drive cirlces the courses

No offence Mel but just a few mods to your post.
There is no stop light at the entrance to the park. Park entrance is about 1/4 mile after you turn right off Sheridan onto 36th St. north. Once in the park you will go thru the parking fee buildings.
They should only be taking the two dollar parking fee on weekends but if you tell them you're there to work on the DG course they should let you thru for free. Just don't have a car load of little kids with you. ;)....
Go straight and road will wind basically in a northwest direction. About 1/8 mile in you will notice the basket for hole # 2 on your right. This is the Blackhawk course. The large zoo parking lot will come up on your left but follow the road as it winds to the right and you will see a smaller building on the right with a smaller parking lot. It used to be a gift shop but now its not being used. T-pad for hole # 1 is on the right side of the building. I don't know where the # 1 hole for Red Hawk is. :(
Jeff, If you're going west on 244 you can get off on hiway 11 like your going to the airport. Go past the airport and take the Sheridan exit and turn right to go North. Should save you from some street traffic.

Thanks to Kelly Watson, Darrell Bailey, Kelly Ganzell, Andrew Treat and Dale Patterson. Too bad for most of the day, Arkansas players out numbered Tulsa players working on Tulsa courses. At leasr we fed them at White River. ;)
We will owe them some serious work time at Fayetteville when they get ready over there. ;)
Most of the forms were set today on the Black course. We still need to set Hole 1 and 3 and all of the pond holes. We will do those over the next week before we pour next Friday.
We could use a chainsaw out there on just a few holes for touch up. Also hole 18 still needs it's fairway picked up and/or raked. This can be done this weekend if someone has time. Call me and I will meet you out there to show you what and where.
When Zooc brought the bridge out, I thought Holy crap, how are we going to get it across?
It took us all of 10 minutes. Zooc backed it up to the edge and I drug it off the trailer with my truck and BANG, it's in!
We still need to get decking on it, so be carefull crossing it until then and we will work on that during next week also.
All but two of us crossed it today, I passed. :o

The ratings police are here furdog. You have got a 882 player calling you out.
Good luck in Worlds Mr. 882 ;)
How about you get you rating above 900 before you say something about anyone's rating. Especially with a PDGA number as low as yours. You have probably been playing for what 15 years. :o

Its all good dbp. It will be above 900 at the next ratings update. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
And no I am not the ratings police cause I really dont give a crap about them.
But I do enjoy the annual worlds smack talk! :DAs long as its done in Good Fun and taken with a grain of Salt.

Jeff or _THE - of course you can volunteer even though you have not been able to come over and work on the courses. I will put you on my list and make sure you have something to do.
I will take good care of the volunteers. Also, if anyone is playing in Worlds but has the Sunday and/or Monday prior to the singles rounds to volunteer just let me know because I need volunteers for those days as well. Likewise, for those who want to volunteer but cannot get off of work - I need volunteers after 5p. during most of the week.
My point being, I can use volunteers in many other places other than just on the courses during the day so if you have any time that you can give to volunteer please contact me (918) 636-5673 or

we need everyone there as early as possible. I know the concrete doesn't arrive until 8;00am but there are several pads that need some additional dirt work. It would be best if most of that work was done before the trucks get there.
So the sun comes up at 6:00am, get to work.
I wiil be there by 7:30, I have to meet Dave Roper and we are picking up the trailers to haul the concrete.
Andrew Treat, Kelly Watson and myself got all of the forms in and steaked for concrete. Kevin, Roper and Melissa were still out there when I left at 6:00.

Hmmmm...
I know of a player that had to make a very difficult decision recently.
He's getting ready for Am Worlds and is really excited about coming to Tulsa for his first Worlds. He just started playing disc golf in 2004, really 2005.
He entered a tournament two weeks ago as a Pro Master- he wanted the experience before Worlds. The whole Masters field decided to play Open, and he ends up taking third place.
I don't know if he took the cash, or not. I hope he didn't because, if he did, it would mean that he can't pursue his dream to play the Tulsa Worlds.
I can hear everybody already-
"Man, if he's good enough to place third in Open..."
"If he turned down cash just to go to Am Worlds..."
I'll support his decision, either way, but I hope he turned down the cash.
His experience at Am Worlds will enrich his life much more than the cash he turned down.

All of the forms and stakes have been removed and the lumber is stacked and ready for this Wed to begin setting the forms for the Red course.
The crews tonight also laid dirt around all of the new tees, with the exception of 15, 3 and 3b.
We need to have all of the forms in by Thursday evening so that we can get at least 18 or more pads poured Friday. We still need volunteers for Friday. So far the list is:
Myself
Kelly Watson
Andrew Treat
Dave Frazier
Steve King
This time the pour will be a little easier since the truck can get to all of the pads. Please come and help on Thursday evening and/or Friday. The more we have the faster it will go. We also need lots of people to watch the pads after they have been finished. Bring a lawn chair and an umbrella and help us out. We will provide beverages while your there.
;)
Just a couple of more weekends and we'll be very close to having all courses completed. Do what you can to help so that we all will have time to work on our games before worlds and not still be working on courses.
If you can help, post it here or call me at 232-8562.

Jerry - your A crew was awesome in the afternoon last Friday. I know it was tough in the morning but we did not loose any teepads like we thought we were going to and that is mainly becuase of some back-breaking work by all and some expertise by Jerry Stacey and Steve King.
I am a scratch for this Friday - I am doing a huge upgrade this weekend in OKC (gotta pay the bills) but I should be good for most other Fridays.

Since we received quite a bit of rain last night, I don't hink that working at Mohawk tonight is possible. We will wait until Wed to begin laying forms and finish filling in around the tee pads on the Black course.
So for all of the workers that were out there last night, take a break and go play McClure tonight. ;)
Just be ready to be back out there on Wed in full force so we can knock this out before Firday.
I also just ordered the concrete for Friday, so now we need those volunteerss. Some to work and some to guard tee pads.

Just to add a liitle to that Forest, we will be pouring five new tee pads that day also. All work efforts will be at haikey on the 24th. We will finish the course that day, ALL OF IT. :o ;)
I know some of you may not want to go back out there, for any number of reasons, be it poison ivy, chiggers, what ever, but please do, the poison ivy is gone and the county will be maintining the west woods. We need everyone out there that day so that we can guarantee that this course will be ready for worlds.
With tee pads. ;)
We will be out at Hunter this Saturday. We need to cut some steps into the banks of the creek and rig some kind of crossing, at all three spots. I think there are a couple of baskets that neeed straightened and we need to remove the tee pad on #5. Bring shovels, pick axe, sledge hammers and gloves. We will provide beverages for those can can come and work. Please come out for this one also, if we get enough help we can get it done quickly and play in the 2:00pm mini that day. This is the only scheduled work day at this course, so please, please come and help. Remember, we want all of the courses done by the end of June. Lets crank out the work this month so we can slow down a little before the event. ;)

Furdog Special of the Month
As an enticement for bringing people out this Friday to sit and watch teepads, I am offering to pay the entry fee to my mini's at Furdog Mountain for the rest of the month of June. That is a $15 value and will only apply for the first 10 people to show up and stay and protect tee pads for 4 hours minimum. You must find Dave Wise and say the password of "Furdog is King". He will take your name and assign you a hole to sit by. Bring a lawn chair and an umbrella and get free mini entry for sitting on your butt. It doesn't get any better than that!
We will need people all day so come out when you can. If you have to work then come out afterwards because we will probably be hanging out until approx 8 or 8:30. Dave Wise will be serving you on the course with free drinks and sandwiches from Twoputt's kitchen. I personally am looking forward to possibly putting my paw print in at least one tee pad when no ones looking.....So come out and keep me from marking my territory. :D

I do not agree.
I don't think the workers need any recognition in the way of names in stone, a plaque, or even a thank you letter.
The work that has been done, and will be done, is a memorial in itself.
For those who haven't helped, it's just a course.
For those who have....it's our course.
I will always remember the work we did on the launch pads at Blackhawk. Every time I set foot on those tee's I will remember what we accomplished.
It is a living monument to the work of a few good men. Which in my book is infinitely better that a dusty plaque, or my name written somewhere.
I work for the sport that I love for no other reason than the fact that I am dedicated to the Club.
And the opportunity to serve is all the thanks I need.

We completed 8 forms last night and will do the other 10 today and this evening. We need some dirt work done around a few of the pads, very minimal, maybe one load will do all of them. I will be out there this evening, we still need to cut some more re-mesh and get all of the wire laid in the boxes.
If we can get enough people working on these projects today, we might just be able to play a few holes. Maybe. Work first, then we will see.
We still need volunteers for Friday, and remember Furdog's offer for the first ten people that offer to watch pads. ;)
